It was Saturday morning, Ying woke up to find that outside the sky was in a light grey color, the clouds promised that sometime during the day it would rain. But that realization didn't stopped her from getting up, get reading on her training clothes and go outside for her morning run. She needed to start her day always doing some exercise or she wouldn't be able to concentrate enough for her other tasks and duties. To her, life is only possible to live in harmony if she could be able to balance her needs and at same time satisfy her parents expectations for her and for that to happen she has always to be ready and at her best. After running through the grounds and the lake side, Ying decided to go back to her dorm, take a warm shower and dress in some more comfortable but pretty weekend's outfit. Grabbing her potions' book, her notebook, some writing supplies and her wand, she put it all on her bag and went out to the courtyard.

It was a little bit chilly, the wind was softly blowing but the castle's wall protected the open space so it was still possible to be comfortable outside and Hui-Ying was thankful for that, she wanted to study but didn't wanted to close herself inside the library, for more that she loves books she prefers to be reading somewhere between nature or at least in some place that she could still be breathing pure and fresh air. She had passed to much years of her short life not being able to enjoy her time as she wanted, being enclosed and protected like a fragile flower not being able to be exposed to a not controlled environment and ambiance.

Arriving to the courtyard, Ying sat down on one of the stone benches and opened her study book. Potions was luckily one of her favorite subjects, luckily, because her goal was to become a mediwitch and potions was one of the most important skills she had to learn to master. She was almost done reviewing her last class when she heard footsteps approaching her. Closing her book she looked up to see who was the one heading her way.

It was Saturday, October 22nd, 2022.

Time to head out and see if he could make any new friends while he was at Hogwarts this time around.

Being here for the tournament was awesome because it meant he got another chance to make some foreign friends. Not to mention the fact that he was representing Mahoutokoro too. Double reward right there! Speaking of which, who was that? As he passed by, he noticed someone sitting out in the courtyard and couldn't resist going over to check them out, since he was there anyway now. Tone saw she was reading some kind of book but wasn't close enough to make out what it was yet. As he approached, the boy recognized it....

"Ahhh, potions. Good choice. Red liked potions too." Tone remarked with a nod and grinned at the unfamiliar face before him. "I'm Hiro, also known as Tone by my quidditch fans. You are?" He asked, flashing another smile at the girl before him. She was pretty cute and Asian! It wouldn't have surprised him if she said she was from Mahoutokoro too, although he knew she wasn't as he knew the faces of everyone there.... Tone bit off some of his meat pie and handed her the extra one. "Want one of these?"

They were delicious, especially when hot and fresh like this one was. She'd be missing out if she said no.

When she looked up to see who was approaching her, her attention was immediately caught up by a bright pink colored head, her eyes followed the boy's figure with curiosity and a sweet small smile came to grace her rose lips, "Hey!" She replied gently, putting her both hands on top of the hard covered book on her lap, "Who's Red?" She asked curious tilting her head slightly, "Potions is my favourite subject actually, I feel I should meet Red!" She said cheerfully with a small chuckle while sliding on her seat to make room for the boy to sit next to her on the stone bench.

“Nice to meet you Hiro!” She said kindly, “I’m Hui-Ying!” She introduced herself smiling at him. She was glad he had approached her, she likes to meet new people and to make friends after passing so much time of her life alone and without anyone with who to talk too. Besides that, the boy seemed to have caught her eyes. He seemed to be really nice and also pretty cute too!

He gave a bite on his pie before he ask if she wanted one too, handing one of his snacks her way. “They are delicious, how can I resist and say no?” She playfully replied, grabbing the pie between her small and delicate hands. Just the smell of the warm meat pie was enough to make her want to have a bite of it. “Mmm…” she muttered, “this is really good!” She said feeling happy. “I don’t remember seeing you around. Are you from one of the other schools?” She asked him giving on more bite at her meat pie, “You’re here for the tournament?” She inquired wanting to know more about the pink haired boy. She for sure would have seen him before if he was an Hogwarts’ student, he was not someone she would had missed after almost two months at the magical castle.

The girl responded to him.

By asking him a question about who Red was. Ah, right. Tone instinctively tended to use nicknames.

"Red's another Hogwarts student I met the last time I was here. We got along really well and clicked almost instantly. But I haven't seen her around since I got back." He told Ying and grinned when the girl confirmed that Potions was her favorite class. "What do you like about it? Any favorite ones?" Tone asked, curious. The pink-and-white haired teen smiled at her as she introduced herself to him and nodded. "It's a pleasure!" Tone chewed and quickly swallowed what was in his mouth.

"Do you keep up with quidditch? If so, you'll probably have heard of me. I'm known as Tone by my quidditch fans as I said before. Also, Calico and Pygmy Puff. But the latter is only when I have pink or purple hair." Tone told Ying and gestured up at his multi-toned hair colors. "As you can see, all the nicknames are because of this." He said with a grin and popped the rest of the meat pie into his mouth, brushing away some flakes from the pastry. One thing was for certain, pastries were messy.

To eat. They made so many flakes and crumbs.

But the taste more than made up for all the frustration of dropping flakes and crumbs everywhere.

As Ying went on to say she hadn't seen him around before and asked if he was from a foreign school, Tone nodded. "I'm from Mahoutokoro. We're only here for the tournament now. But we'll be back again for the spring ball." A grin came back onto his face. "I want to make as many new friends as I can while I'm here. Starting with you!" Tone said with a smile. "You're from Hogwarts, right? I'm guessing you're going to be rooting for Hogwarts?" The teen asked, curious about her response.

Ying heard her new friend talk about the person named Red, trying to see if some clue would lead her to realize who Red actually was. But nothing the nice boy said gave her a clear idea of who they might be. The beautiful girl gave him a warm smile when he asked her about her favorite subject, "It's because I want to be a healer or a mediwitch." She declared to him, "I've been sick all my life and for that I had to live apart from the people I love. Hogwarts and it's magic healed me. Healing magic is powerful and to learn it, I need to master potions. It's a mean to an end!" She explained giving a small chuckle at the end. "What about you, what do you want to be when you finish you studies?" She asked curious in return.

Their conversation changed and soon she found herself talking about quidditch. The girl had never seen a quidditch game before she started at Hogwarts. Being a muggle-born, she only got to learn about it very recently. Ying softly laughed when he introduced himself and all his funny nicknames. "I'm sorry...is not that I don't like quidditch, is just that I only find out about it very recently!" She excused herself for her lack of knowledge about the wizarding world most famous sport. "I think, tho, that Pygmy Puff fits you very perfectly!" She friendly joked with him. It was nice and refreshing to meet such a kind and funny person, Tone was like those kinds of people that was impossible to ignore and surely he had such a light and warm energy that no one would want to stay away from him. Ying was glad he had decided to approach her.

"Yes! I'm from Hogwarts!" She admitted matching his smile with her own, "Destiny decided that way!" She playfully said, balancing her feet back and forth from the stone bench. "I lived great part of my life with my father in China...but magic decided to show up at my family's home in London." She explained, " So... "voilá"! I'm a Gryffindor!" Ying said making a funny gesture with her hands, like a magician presenting the result of his magic. "And yes... I'll be rooting for Hogwarts! Sorry my friend!" She apologized faking a more deep regret. "Are you going to participate? I can make an exception and root for my friend too..." She responded playfully by nudging softly his arm with hers. "I never went to a ball before...well, not one at Hogwarts..." She admitted, "You think the spring ball will be fun?" She asked feeling curious about it.

Ying's response made him smile.

"You're a girl after my own heart! If I can't be a quidditch player, I'd definitely be a healer."

Tone said and nodded as Ying explained why she wanted to be a healer. "I want to be able to take care of my friends." He told her, his reason being quite simple. "My main goal is to become a popular quidditch player. Enough so I can make a living just doing that and nothing else. But if I can't manage to achieve this, I'd like to go the healing route. I'd like to become a healer to ensure my friends won't ever perish when I'm around them." Tone told Ying, being a bit serious for once....

Ying's next words enlightened him as to what kind of person she was. "Ah, so you're muggle-born?" Tone asked, curious. All purebloods were familiar with quidditch, even if they didn't follow or like it. All halfbloods and halfbreeds had at least heard of it. Only muggle-borns weren't aware of the wizarding sport at all. Tone laughed as Ying told him Pygmy Puff fit him perfectly and moved to take a seat next to her. "It does, does it?" Tone asked with an arched brow and slung his arm around her shoulders in a relaxed way...

"How do you figure?"

The duo-toned teen asked, his eyes sparkling with amusement, as he waited for her response.

Ying then spoke of how her father was in China but her own magic had manifested during a trip to her family's home in London and Tone nodded. "I see. Makes sense. What was it like finding out about your magic? I'm not exactly familiar as to how things work for muggles." It was probably different for Hogwarts students. He knew Mahoutokoro was different from other foreign schools as to how they got their invitations. After all, students from other schools didn't receive miniature plants as invitations.

Right? From an earlier conversation with a Hogwarts student he'd also learned students got sorted into Houses in Hogwarts, which was strange. Mahoutokoro didn't have separations like that in their ranks. The only 'ranks' they really had were 1st-5th years were together on the second floor and 6th-7th years were together on the third floor. And the colors of their robes signified their individual ranks. Tone supposed their robe colors were as close to the Houses Hogwarts offered to its students. Even though that wasn't the same...

Not really.

"What's a Gryffindor? That's one of those Houses I've heard about, right?" Tone asked.

"Nah, I'm not really important compared to others. But Yan asked me to be his special person for the tournament and I couldn't very well say no to him! So I guess I'm participating in a small sense." Tone said with a shrug of his shoulders. It was true, he was kind of participating and kind of not participating at the same time. Still, at least he would be around to support the Mahoutokoro members when they fought together against their opponents. But he was a little nervous for the SNACBASH members.

He did care about them more than other people. Even though he might not ever admit this to anyone. But back to Ying again! "You haven't been to a ball before? Really? You're definitely missing out on them! They're always a blast because something always chaotic happens at them. I can't wait to see what's going to happen this time!" Tone said with a grin. "Need any help with your work? Or anything else?" He asked, smiling at her, waiting to see what she would say to him. What would it be?

Whatever she needed, he would definitely do his best to do for her!

Tone was very determined, stubborn and talented at getting what he wanted from others.

Ying smiled brightly when Hiro told her that he also would like to be a healer, if quidditch couldn’t be the first option. This actually ignited a thought in her mind…if she had to choose between sports and be a healer would that represent a real dilema to her? She always enjoyed to maintain her body and mind healthy, she loves to make exercises outside… but no, her heart leaned heavily towards the healing magic, being able to help others would always suppress her will for competition.

Ying, as he was explaining his reasons to become a healer, felt like his speech turned into a more serious stance. It was nice to see that the pink haired boy had a good heart and in the right place. Friends were also very important to Ying, although she was not that good making them. “I understand what you mean, I also care a lot for people that are close to me!” She replied to him with a soft nod and a kind smile.

Since she heard her brother telling her about the way some wizarding families looked and thought about muggle-borns, Ying always felt slightly frightened to admit that she didn’t born in the magical world. So she felt happy and relief to see that the friendly Mahoutokoro boy, wasn’t treating her differently after finding that out. Pygmy Puffs were funny, friendly and pink, so there was no way that name couldn’t fit him! He seemed to also enjoy that connection, Ying’s smile grow when she saw his good disposition. Tone came closer and sat next to her, putting his arm around her shoulders. Ying almost flinched and pulled away instinctively, but managed to control herself and relaxed back in the seat instead. She wasn’t used to that kind of physical contact, but wouldn’t mind it, somehow she knew she could trust her new friend.

“I figured by your face! You have a face of a Pygmy Puff!” She replied playfully and trying to contain her laugher…until she couldn’t, and started to chuckle with amusement.

“Well, I was kind of expecting it to happen! Actually, I was hoping that that would happen to me!” She explained when he asked about her experience in finding magic. “My older brother is a wizard too, he entered Hogwarts first obviously, and since then I wanted to join too!” She admitted. “First time I saw magic I made it snow in my living room!” She said laughing slightly, her eyes had a glint of nostalgia, like someone who was remembering a good memory, “I wanted so bad to be outside playing in the snow, but my parents wouldn’t allow it. So I made the snowflakes starting to fall where I was! Pity now I can’t make it without a spell!” She joyfully said. “And yes, Gryffindor is one of the houses. We are supposed to be noble and brave!” She told him, “You all don’t have houses in your school?” She asked curious. To be honest, she never understood the concept of being divided into four houses. It didn’t seemed natural to her or actually very logical to spread people by their personalities or main characteristics. Specially during her first days at Hogwarts, she would have liked to have her brother’s support and company and not been forced to spend that time with people she had never known or heard about.

“What is a special person in a tournament? What does that mean? If they fail you would have to replace your friend?” Ying asked clueless about what that tournament was and what that position would entail. “To be honest…I had to attend several formal meetings, some involved some dance…but a ball in its full concept? In a magical world? No, I never went to a ball like that!” Ying clarified. When the boy asked if he could help her in anyway, she took a moment to reflect about his question… “Maybe…” She started with some hesitation, “maybe you can help me with my flying lessons? I admit that flying in a broom is something that defies my muggle logic!” She told him with a smile and an expression that revealed her embarrassment in admitting it.

It didn't escape his notice.

How Ying almost flinched when he reached out towards her and Tone noted that she didn't feel comfortable.

Whether it was because she wasn't a naturally physical person, or because she just didn't know him remained to be seen. He'd have time later to ask her about it once they got closer later on. Tone grinned when Ying told him he had the face of a pygmy puff and he laughed a little. "Wow. Tell me, what exactly would pass for a pygmy puff face?!" He exclaimed, feigning shock about her words. They really were such cute, adorable creatures. "Is it because you think I'm cute?" Tone asked her with an arched brow...

"Oooo. Making it snow sounds pretty, such an advanced technique too!" Tone said with a smile. "Noble and brave? I'll jot that down to remember for later. I'm not familiar with the House system you guys use at Hogwarts. We don't really have them at Mahoutokoro." The orange haired teen said and thought for a moment when Ying asked about his school and how it was different from Hogwarts. "There's a lot that's different about our two schools, it seems." He said with a little nod.

"First off, Hogwarts has 5 floors but students can go to each floor."

Unless something had changed over the past year. But from what he'd experienced and seen it hadn't.

Tone paused, "That is, if I'm right about this. It looks like there are classes and other rooms students can go into at any given time." He thought for a bit and then continued, "Mahoutokoro also has 5 floors. But only the ground floor and the second and third floors are available to students. The 4th and 5th floors are only for staff members. We can't go there. The main palace is connected to two smaller buildings. One is used as the day school for kids under 11."

"The other is for club activities." Tone told her. "I think the strangest part of Hogwarts is the fact that you have so many classrooms for all your classes. At Mahoutokoro, we're assigned one classroom for the entire year. The teachers all come to the classroom that we're assigned and transfigure the desks, chairs and room to fit their teaching style and class. It makes it more organized and less stressful for the students. It's the best teaching environment too...."

That was what he thought at any rate.

"The fact that Hogwarts has so many classrooms is mind-boggling." Tone said, shaking his head.

As Ying asked about what a special person did at the tournament, Tone tilted his head to the side. "You haven't seen the other tournaments before?" Surely she would have known about them?

Or maybe not, she was a muggle. Maybe she'd only heard about what the tournaments were but didn't know any of the details. "Special people usually take part in the tournaments at some point in time. They either participate and help their champions out, or they are a 'hostage' that their champions have to save. Their role changes every time the tournament is held, so you'll never know what your role is until later." Tone said. "I don't think you can replace your champion..."

"As for balls, you'll be in for a treat next time one comes up! So far, Hogwarts balls are really fun to take part in. Something chaotic always happens, just make sure you come prepared to get hurt in the process. Not that you'll get hurt, that is. But there's a chance accidents might happen. Or other things... but that's not to say it's not fun! It is fun, don't let my words scare you!" Tone said with a little laugh and cleared his throat. Then Ying asked if he could help her with flying.

He brightened up at this.

"Of course! I'm really good at flying and can teach you all the moves!" Tone said with a grin.

He checked the time and blinked, where had the time gone?! A few hours had already gone by while the two of them had been chatting together. "Want to meet up with me at the quidditch pitch later today? Maybe right after dinner? I usually eat at around 6 so a little after that. I have to go now, I told someone else I'd meet up with them for lunch." He told Ying and flashed her a bright smile. "But I won't forget about you, Ying! Can't wait to see you again!" Tone said and raised a hand into the air to salute her. Usually Tone would have given a hug but she didn't seem to like that, at least not now.

And with that, he was gone.

Ying couldn't avoid the laugh that escaped from her lips when Tone playfully asked her about her joke, when she stated he had a pygmy puff face. "Is it because you think I'm cute?" He asked arching a brow at her. Ying's laugh broke almost immediately, leaving her with a half smile and warm red cheeks, a great contrast of color giving her pale ivory skin. "I..." She started, feeling difficult to find the right words, her shyness and embarrassment clouding her thoughts, "Yes! I think you're cute!" She decided to admit and she said it with a confidence she was trying to find, she didn't wanted him to get the wrong conclusions, "And because of your hair! I really like it's color!" She said with a nice smile.

"Thank you!" were her words to him when he complimented her first instance of magic, feeling unsure that she deserved his praise, after all it had happened without she realizing what and how she was doing it. "Oh...I thought it was a thing of magical schools...to have students sorted into different houses!" She admitted when he told her about how Mahoutokoro was organised. She nodded in agreement to him, their schools were really different after all.

"Having just one classroom for all classes actually seems easier and more beneficial for students." She stated thoughtfully, a small wrinkle appearing between her thin brows, "Specially during first days...I remember to feel overwhelmed and lost inside this huge castle!" She told him with a smile.

"No, I've never seen any magical tournament!" Ying said pressing her lips into a thin line and a soft pout, "I'm a muggle-born, so many things in this world are still a mystery to me." she explained to her new friend. She always felt her heart tightening every time she talked about her family and her muggle origins, she always felt the suspense waiting for other's reaction when knowing that about her.

Ying slowly shook her head, when Tone told her about what usually happens at Hogwarts' balls but that she shouldn't feel afraid of his words about it, re-ensuring her that besides everything they are always funny events to attend to. "I'm not afraid!" She lightly replied, "For certain I'm going to the next one! I'm sure my friends and I wouldn't miss it for anything!"

A bright smile crossed her rosy lips illuminating her face and giving a glint of happiness to her dark brown eyes, when Tone agreed in helping her with her flying classes. "Thank you Tone! You're the best!" She said with excitement. "Of course! So... at around seven is good for you?" She asked him when he told her he would have time after dinner. "I'll be there then! See you later!" She said waving her hand at him in goodbyes her smiling happily at her new friend.
