There she was again, the red-haired girl, her long mane blowing in her braid in the wind and her running clothes on her body. Haley Rose could often be seen running around the grounds when she wasn't doing a little workout somewhere or playing homework and sticking her nose in books.

Haley ran and ran, with each mile she quickened her pace and her mind was free. Free from the start. It felt good not to do sport to clear her head, but to do it for the love of it. Sport helped her to find her centre again. A balance in a dark time, an escape. Since then, she had not stopped and had taken a liking to it.

After running several laps and 7 kilometres, she added a relaxed 500 metres to her run and slowed her pace. Her breathing calmed a little, her pulse slowly adjusted and the wind on her skin dried the sweat. Relaxed, she trotted to the Great Lake and would have loved to take a header into the water. No matter how cold the water, the idea was really appealing to her.

Haley came to a stop on the jetty, rested her forearms on the wood and gazed out over the water. The smooth surface revealed small movements caused by the wind and there was something peaceful about the scenario. The redhead drew the cool air deep into her lungs and let her gaze continue to glide over the picture in front of her until her eyes caught on something. Much more on someone. She caught sight of a girl, sitting by a tree not far from the lake. She was sitting there all alone with a book in her hand. It looked like she was writing or drawing.

Haley wandered along the jetty, her eyes still on the girl in the distance. She approached here on her own, it was as if her curiosity had taken control of her legs. When Haley was close enough to really make out the girl, she realised that they didn't know each other. But somehow individual features of her face also seemed familiar. Maybe she was a Gryffindor and they had passed each other in the Common Room? Or maybe she recognised the face from the Sorting Ceremony.

Haley remembered back to when she was new at Hogwarts. She loved the castle from second one. She loved this new life and the magical world. But she also missed family and friends. She was faced with new challenges and not every encounter at Hogwarts was a good one. Haley decided to introduce herself to the girl, if she really was in her first year, she might feel the same way. It was just nice sometimes to know there was someone to talk to. Who has been here longer and can be a little guide.

With a broad smile, she strolled to the tree. The girl was concentrated on her book and from the movements of her hands it looked as if she was really drawing. Or writing quite terribly, which surely no one could read afterwards. "Hey there!" exclaimed Haley with a big smile that extended into her eyes. "I'm Haley Rose, Gryffindor. Third year. I don't think we've met, right?" Still smiling, she glanced at the book, "If I'm interrupting, let me know. Do you draw?" she inquired further.

Haley smiled as the girl introduced herself and nodded in agreement. Presumably the two had already crossed paths and if Linda really was at a Quidditch match, she definitely saw Haley on the broom. "Great." She smiled broadly and joined her on the floor in a cross-legged position. "Sure, let me see." Haley leaned to the side to examine the picture of Linda. "Wow, you're good at drawing. Did you have a template for this, just your feelings or do you just draw on it with a blank mind?" Haley leaned back again, supporting herself with her hands behind her back. She listened intently to her words.

"Oh, I don't know honestly." Laughed Haley, shrugging her shoulders. "I've never really drawn before." She explained further, she really didn't know if she was good at it or not. "When I do take up pen and or paper, it's more for reading, writing or doing homework." She added honestly. "Have you been drawing for long?" Haley suspected the answer would be yes. At least it didn't seem like Linda had suddenly gotten the idea to start drawing. "Can you draw portraits?" she asked further before moving on to the subject of running.

"Oh yes, I love it." Explained Haley and it was the truth. "I don't think most people are into Muggle sports. They'd rather fly on a broom, play Quidditch or duel. There are a few who do Muggle sports though. There is a martial arts club, which I also joined. But so far I've hardly seen anyone who goes running as well." Haley shrugged again, she didn't mind. She could understand, she loved playing Quidditch herself after all. "Are you interested in Quidditch?" she asked, curious to see if they might share that interest.

Haley plucked some grass from the ground and played with it between her fingers. "How are you liking Hogwarts so far?" she asked cautiously. She knew that the first time here could be overwhelming. That you could miss home, your family and friends. She knew it could be nice to have someone who was there for you during that initial difficult time. And Haley could be someone like that, maybe?

It seemed Linda was warming up to Haley a bit. The redhead listened to her intently, nodding here and there in understanding. "Wow, that's really a long time but you can tell. You're really good at that. If you ever want to try your hand at portraits, I'll make myself available." Haley shrugged her shoulders with a laugh. She's never been a model but that would certainly be a fun experience. "I don't see myself drawing but as a model I can offer with." Joked Haley truthfully on.

"Oh, so you go running too?" asked Haley now surprised. She hadn't expected that, she really only knew a few who went running here at Hogwarts. "If you like, we can go running together in the morning someday." She suggested. Haley was certainly faster than Linda, she was older and had been training for quite a while but that wasn't a hindrance, she could easily adapt and if Linda also trained regularly like Haley then they certainly didn't have too much of a difference.

Haley could see the excitement in Linda's eyes when she talked about Quidditch. Another common interest. "Oh, then you should come to the next try-out and sign up as a player. Maybe there's a second-string spot open, or if one opens up, you could move up. Why don't you give it a try?" Haley tried to encourage her to really try. She had done the same with another friend at the time, and she was playing on the Lions' team with Haley today. "I know in the beginning, first year everything can be a bit much, but once you've settled in a bit and there's some peace, you can reconsider." And if it's not going to be Quidditch, there are so many other options at Hogwarts. Surely there was a club for drawing, too. Surely Linda would find something she liked to pass her time with, and maybe meet like-minded people in the process.

"An older brother? How old is he? Does he go to another school?" asked Haley with interest, trying to distract Linda from the feeling a bit. "I felt the same way then, I feel the same way now sometimes. I love Hogwarts, it's my second home but I still have my first home. But the more I am happy to see my friends and family every vacation and I try to keep in touch through owls. But now there's so much going on around me that time flies by so fast, there's hardly any time for homesickness." Haley winked at the last words and hoped that she could really cheer Linda up a bit with her words.

The phase in which everything new breaks in on you, as good as it is, could really overwhelm you. So many new impressions, new people, classmates, making friends (and enemies). Finding your way around the huge castle, homework, magic, flying. The list could go on forever. Haley had to go through this phase too and she knew it wasn't always easy. "If somehow something comes up, you can always come to me. If you see me in the common room, you can always talk to me. If you ever have any questions, I'll be happy to try and answer them for you and even if you just need someone to talk to, my red hair usually stands out in a crowd. I'm sure you'll find me." Haley had never been a mentor or tutor to anyone, nor was she a big sister but she was sure she could be a helping and supportive hand. "And in return you cheer me on loudly at Quidditch, Deal?" She laughed now and nudged Linda lightly against her shoulder.

"I can try. When do you want me to draw you?" Linda thought it was not bad idea. Perhaps she could draw people as well as she could draw nature. "Yeah, I run here every morning around 8 km. I was running every day in the morning and in the evening since 7. Makes me feel great, so I decided to continue running even here. Though in the evening I usually have a lot, so I run only in the morning. It's nice idea, so I guess we could run together one day." Linda didn't know how fast Haley liked to run, but it should be fine for her, right? "I should definitely give it a try. But I want to buy a broom first. Surely I could ask my parents, it's not a problem at all, but I want to buy it on my own money. Also nowadays I already have a lot sometimes, but I guess I will definitely try some day while I'm studying here." Linda said enthusiastically. "He's 19 now. He finished Hogwarts and he was Gryffindor." "Oh that's great. I hope I will be less homesick too soon." Linda smiled now been more happy. "Thank you, Haley. You know, you could be a great older sister." Linda smiled in a happy way. "Surely. I'll be there for you every time." Now Linda was so happy. It's gonna be great to look at her playing till she can become part of a team herself.

"Whenever you feel like it." Haley replied, giggling. She tried to imagine how Linda would manage to capture her wild red mane, the many freckles and her green eyes in a picture. The more she thought about it, the more she looked forward to the actual result. She was already thinking about where to hang it.

"It's nice to know someone who also likes to run. I hardly ever meet like-minded people. Most aren't interested in muggle sports, at least that's what it feels like. We should definitely get together for a morning run sometime." Regardless of what level the two of them were at, it wouldn't be a problem, because when it came to running, one could always adapt to the other. Haley had always gone running alone until now and didn't know if she would really like running with someone, but until she tested it, she couldn't know. So she would have to try it out.

The redhead listened intently to Linda's words and nodded at the appropriate points. "What is your brother doing now after his time at Hogwarts?" It was interesting that Linda brother was already 19, Haley could probably pester him with a thousand questions. Maybe she would even get to meet him someday, if a good friendship could really develop between them. "I've always wanted a little sister." Laughed Haley, nudging Linda lightly with her elbow. "I'm going to be the best big sister you can imagine." Haley grinned proudly before she started laughing again.

It was nice to see that Linda had a smile on her lips as well. It was a light-hearted atmosphere and Haley was happy to be able to distract her new acquaintance a bit. Haley couldn't help but think back to Cosmo. The two had been inseparable, like sisters. They had also met and fallen in love here at Hogwarts. The thought of her hurt. Haley missed her, her old best friend, incredibly, but she was learning to deal with the pain. She wasn't the first to disappear from her life like that, so she pushed the thought deep inside and didn't let it show on the outside.

Haley was surprised by the answer, but Linda's smile infected her. "Wait. Now? Now now?" Haley laughed at herself. "I mean, yeah sure, I definitely have time and if you feel like it. I'd love to." Haley sat up straight, parted her hair and let it hang over her shoulder in front. Her red waves went down to her belly button and Haley grimaced. "How do you want me to look? Seriously? Laughing? Angry?" She contorted her face theatrically with each word and then laughed out loud before squinting her eyes and making a fish mouth. "Or better like this?"

Before she could get lost in the drawing the new information about the mysterious brother made her almost screaming "Oh my god, he is working with dragons?" Haley couldn't get out of her amazement. Her laughter had turned to an open jaw and she couldn't believe her ears. "I. Have. To. Meet. Him." The idea of riddling him with questions made Haley all nervous. She would have loved to go right now to meet and get to know Linda's brother. "I mean, how cool is that? And so interesting! Can I intern with him?" Haley's eyes lit up at the idea of working with dragons, it was really something she could see herself doing. She was sure they were among the more misunderstood creatures, but not by Haley.

After getting back to reality and forgetting a bit about the dragons thing Haley smiled at Lindas words "And I give my best to be the best first and big sister." Haley put on a proud face, she knew it was nice to have someone like that and she was really glad she could be that someone for Linda. Haley wanted to be there for Linda and if she was honest, Haley needed someone too. That's where a little sister only came in handy. Who knows, maybe someday they would have a bond as close as Cosmo and Haley had back then. Such a friendship would definitely be something that would do Haley more than good. But whatever might come, Haley was alive in the moment and so she simply enjoyed this nice afternoon with her newfound little sister. The little sister she never had and would now draw her.
