Pet A Kindred Spirit

T he door to the pet shop opened, revealing two distinct silhouettes in the doorway. A stiletto heel clicked against the floor as an immoderately beautiful woman stepped in with her equally beautiful son. Both of their robes looked like they had come straight off a fashion runway before arriving in dragon alley. "Now, we'll find you a fine pet that you can bring with you to school." Odette mused, her heels clacking on the floor some more as she flounced past all the pets that didn't suit her vision. "Something well behaved preferably, you'll cause enough havoc on your own I'd wager."

At this, Odi rolled his eyes. He disliked when his mother made petty comments like that in front of people. "Do I even need a pet?" He shot an apologetic look at the shopkeeper while his mother was looking at the cats, he hadn't meant to be rude, but he was truthfully eager to go home after this lengthy shopping trip for his school supplies.
"Siamese cats are known for their beauty, that might be a fashionable one to take with you?" His mother offered. Again, Odi rolled his eyes. "You know." She began, her tone softening. "You can get whatever you want to darling. I just thought you might like my suggestions, I only get so much time with you because of how much I'm working lately-"

"Look at this guy." Odi interrupted, his eyes drawing over a rather plump greyish toad that was staring out at him from a tank. "He has the same birthday as me." He smirked, looking at the information tag on the side of the tank. The toad blinked. Odi blinked back.

Odette watched the interaction with a faint smile on her face, taking a quick glance at the creature. It was an ugly little thing, not nearly the kind of stylish creature she had expected her son to go for. "Well..." She said brusquely, striding over to take a closer look. "He's not exactly a looker, but I suppose you could always enter the frog choir with him! Our kind are known for our remarkable musical talents." She said the last part of her sentence quietly, but there was a distinct note of pride in her tone as she talked about her Veela heritage. Nonetheless, the joy it was giving her son to simply stare and blink at the amphibian let her know this was the perfect pet. "Excuse me." She called to the shopkeeper in a clear, high voice. "I think we'd like to buy this toad."
