{ Private to Slytherins }
It was getting dark. The stranger had only recently arrived at the castle where she would be residing for the better part of the next year. Her induction into the role was brief, just the way she liked it. She preferred things to be concise, after all. The newly appointed Slytherin Head of House sat in the middle of the grounds, not too far away from the castle entrance. She had taken a stroll around the area, in an attempt to get to know it a bit better and get her bearings straight - which was easier said than done in a massive place full of magic. From where she sat, she could see the sun beginning to set. She had to admit that the view was kind of magnificent.
In truth, when she had first arrived, the woman looked at the castle with a bit of disappointment. She was not sure what she expected but it certainly was not as impressive as the Wizarding school she went to. At least, it just looked to be an old and rather large castle. That was it. She was hoping for something a little more, you know? Dragons flying around, merpeople chilling in the water, that sort of thing. This was just... a few bits of stone with a moat, apparently. Nonetheless, this place was her new abode for the foreseeable future and she ought to get to know it better. Who knew? Perhaps there were hidden secrets and treasures that she had yet to discover.
Before her arrival, she had flipped through a copy of 'Hogwarts: A History' and discovered some interesting bits of information. She had done further research through newspapers and more recent books too. Perhaps that was how she had gotten her hopes up a little. Rumours of a secret Chamber that had been created by one of the founders of Hogwarts and the founder of the house she was here to work with had caught her attention, for example.
Pressing her hand against the grass beneath her, the female began to push herself up. She paused for a brief moment, spotting a bunch of insects near her hand. A frown crossed her face as she looked at them for a second. Ants. Dead ants, to be more specific. Dead ants... Were they dead already or did she do that? Perhaps she had accidentally sat down on an ant hill and killed some. A part of her felt a bit of sadness at that thought. She hoped not.
Pushing herself up, she stood up and brushed her clothing with her hands as the sun went down. It was fast approaching dinner time - and food always came first. The new Professor walked towards the castle. By the time she got to the entrance, she could already hear the noise. Outside was quiet but the corridors were buzzing. Students were rushing into the Great Hall, ready for their dinner. Some earlybirds had already sat down and began stuffing their faces, feasting on the food that was provided for them.
The Slytherin Head of House entered the room, scanning it. It was noisy here, children were busy laughing with their friends and enjoying the beginning of their evening. She looked over at the Professors' table that lay opposite the door for a moment before examining the rest of the tables. There were four long tables. One for every house, it appeared. It did not take her long to find the swarms of green that surrounded the table that was actually closest to the entrance. The table belonging to the students that formed a part of her house.
A smirk appeared on her face. These students were the most promising ones of the lot. They were chosen for their resourcefulness, determination, cleverness and their drive. Slytherins. Their goals and ambitions would see them through their school life and beyond. They were the future leaders of this Society. The female had a lot of expectations for them. They were the greatness amongst the lot. She was biased, of course. However, if there was one thing she valued in someone: it was their drive to do things. To get things done.
Turning on her heels, the female made her way over to the table. A few students sat near one end of it - they looked young, no older than second years. "Good afternoon. I'm Professor Jensen, the new Head of Slytherin. I just thought I would introduce myself and get to know some of you. Mind if I join you all for a bit?" She asked, opting to sit with the Slytherin students for a while to get to know them.

With the arrival of the new schooling year, also came the new title of Second Year for the twelve year old Isabella Hills. Sorted into the house of emerald only a year ago, the brunette sat at the end of the Slytherin table - proud to be a new student of the Second Year classification for 2018. Deciding on her seating at the table weeks before, she had decided to try and help the newest of her house - whether they be pupil or professor.
The presence of an older person was one the younger girl noticed almost instantly. Being at the very end of the table, it would be hard to miss. Choosing to ignore rather than acknowledge, her plans were quickly demolished when the woman spoke.
Raising an eyebrow at the mention of ‘the new Head of Slytherin’ the interest of the twelve year olds was peaked and her full attention was turned onto the professor. “You’re our new Head of House? But what happened to professor Scheinberg?” Her tone was kept light and airy, to let the professor know she could easily brush the question off if she didn’t want to answer it.
While she didn’t show it on the surface, her interest in the sudden leave of her old Head of House was big. While she hadn’t exactly been close with the professor, she had known her from her period of prefectism. Curiosity was something she had been gifted with at birth, and the feeling of the need to be informed hadn come hand in hand with it. Being uninformed was a feeling the Young’s Slytherin didn’t enjoy the slightest.
Shuffling over on the seat, she nodded towards the free space next to her - be knocking for the newly introduced professor Jensen to sit next to her. “Oh, my name’s Isabella by the way - Isabella Hills. Everyone calls me Bella though. I’m a Second Year this year, as you might of guessed from my mention of professor Scheinberg before. Are you excited to be Head Snake?”
The childish question was one Isabella was eager to know about most Head of Houses. She tended to judge people by the answer to the question she asked first. When it came to professors or Head of Houses at Hogwarts, this was the mandatory question she always felt the need to know the answer to - she judged their teachings and leadings so not their eagerness to do their job.

Alexx was tangled in a crowd of green and silver, people who she barely knew, but she wanted to seem less lonely. She was sat beside Bella, who she had met in their days at the summer camp. Alexx couldn't lie, she was thrilled to be back home, since Hogwarts was more of a home now than any safehouse or sketchy motel she had seen in her twelve years.
Her pale ocean eyes looked up at the arrival of the older woman; a new head of house, she claimed. "Sucks to hear about Scheinberg leaving," she announced. "she was nice." Her comment was made in agreeance to Bella's, also missing someone she didn't realize she would miss.
The blonde had previously attempted a run for prefect, which is where she had met the now former Head of House, as well as her brief stay on the Newspaper Team (though she quickly resigned, having bit off more than she could chew). And while it wasn't as though she made a habit of talking to professors, she still knew enough to know that the resignation of one, even just the announcement alone, would be huge.
The French girl allowed herself to steal another glance at the new Head of House, where she smiled. "Je m'appelle Alexx, it is a pleasure to meet you. Also a second year." Her comment was made following Bella's, seeing it only fitting to start introducing herself. "Welcome back to the house of green and silver." (Since she was sure she was a Hogwarts graduate) Her smile, though dull, never faded.
Dark hues were cast away by candlelight, and the table felt as though it was only getting chattier. The blonde shuttered. A cold chill ran quickly down her spine, flashbacks of the previous year hitting her like a bullet train. Oh, how she missed this.
And there in that evening set the blonde girl, remembering her first time at this very table, and a brief conversation with Glen Pope, which had been the start of her journey. Her smile reformed, and she looked back up to the silver-haired professor, her eyes heavy and sad, but somehow, at the same time, sharp and dangerous. There was little to know about this second year, only that she, now more than ever, was excited for the start of a new year.

Hjørdis smiled gently towards the young Slytherin, slightly bemused by her shock. She did not sound or appeared shocked, in truth. However, the fact that she chose to question the role before even saying hello gave Hjørdis the impression she was. "Professor Scheinberg? I can't say, I'm afraid. I was hired after she left and didn't get a chance to meet her." The female replied, waving her hand in the air. Did she know? Perhaps. But her expression said nothing of the sort. As far as anyone was concerned, she was clueless in the matter and was simply here to do her job. Whether or not she knew what happened to former Professors was something that no one knew. It was likely that she did not but that too was unconfirmed.
She turned her heard to another girl who spoke up, "Oh? Did you know her well?" She asked the latter girl. Nice was probably not a definition that people used to describe Hjørdis but she was interested to know what the students deemed nice. Perhaps she ought to be that way. She nodded in return to the French that the girl spoke, "Bonsoir," She replied, with her limited knowledge of the language. She was no pro when it came to languages but she knew a greeting or two and a few key words in a variety of languages. It was useful in life.
"Pleased to meet you, you both," The Professor replied with a nod of her head as she took the seat next to her, after being prompted to do so. Glancing at the blonde haired girl, she smiled gently, "Ah, I'm afraid this is actually my first time here." She replied as she scanned the group, "I didn't attend Hogwarts myself but if I had, apparently I would have been a Slytherin like yourselves," She explained, not surprised about the sorting that the hat had given her. It was definitely of no surprise to her.
She made a mental note of her name and year. Isabella Hills, second year. Alexx whose surname she did not know, also second year. It was something she did for each person she met. Whilst most people turned out to be a waste of time, she thought it was worth knowing their names.
She was paying more attention to these children than she normally cared for but they were Slytherins. This made them the best, just on the basis of their house, "I am, I imagine it will be quite an experience - perhaps also a challenge," Hjørdis replied honestly.
She was looking forward to her time as Head of Slytherin but there was no doubt that there would be challenges to face. For starters, she was now responsible for a whole bunch of children she had never met and knew nothing about. It did not help that working with children was actually relatively new to her. It was not her forte, but it was something she would challenge herself to do and improve on. Perhaps she would be able to get along with them. And if there was anything she enjoyed, it was a good challenge. Hogwarts would keep things exciting, that was for sure. Speaking of challenges in the school, the new Professor was reminded about the update she had received when she arrived - about the incidents that happened over the last year, "What about yourselves? Did you both enjoy your first year here?" She asked them both, wondering if they were excited to be here and how their first years had gone.

Lucien who had been sat a bit further from the group overheard the conversation from Alexx, Bella, and their new Head of House. The Escanora Heir lifted his head turning towards the trio with a somewhat puzzled expression. "Another new Head of House? That was quick. You aren't going to leave us so soon either are you?" He questioned a bit worried. First was Mellowrose, then Scheinberg, and now Jensen. It was odd really, more and more professors kept coming and going. It worried Lucien, then again everything worried him.
Lucien never truly knew Schienberg, but the second she showed concern regarding Aravis bringing back a snake from the forbidden forest he had practically considered her family, since his family never cared what they did. "Sorry, I shouldn't have spoken out of turn. Many apologies. I'm Lucien Escanora, second year." He said with a smile. It wasn't like he could act like he didn't have a last name, he was the only kid in Hogwarts with heterochromia and a high status so it was bound to be known anyway. After he had introduced himself and apologized for butting into the conversation he remained silent in order for someone else to get at least a word in.

As she sat there conversing with the two girls, she suddenly heard another voice pipe up. Hjørdis looked over to see a young boy with a quizzical look on his face. His question was full of worry - but it was justified. Over the last year, they had already had two Heads of House, a third was definitely not going to be helpful. It appeared this change was not just in Slytherin but all over the school. Whatever happened must have been bad.
He quickly apologised for speaking out of turn and then proceeded to introduce himself. Hjørdis sighed softly and shook her head, "No need to apologise, Mister Escanora," She replied, "You have every right to ask that question and express your worries." The new Professor explained. There was no reason for him to apologise for asking such a basic question. Questions were actually rather good. Hjørdis preferred people to ask questions - even if they were simple and basic ones - than suffer alone or do things incorrectly as they did not ask.
If the subject matter was too personal for her, she would easily dismiss it. That was not an issue. "As for your question..." She started slowly, wondering what reply to give him. The truth of the matter was that she had no idea. She had her own goals to reach in life. It could take a year, it could take ten. She had no idea how long she would even want to remain here. But more than that, Hjørdis did not believe in false promises. There was no point in guaranting she would stay when she could get hurt tomorrow and end up unable to work. Life was unpredictable, after all. Especially Hogwarts, it seemed. "I would like to believe that I will be around for a while," She started, "I cannot guarantee how long this would be but I can say that I have no plans in the foreseeable future to leave you," Hjørdis replied honestly.
