Mellani started as Linda came near her. "Oh, um hey.", she said, clearly surprised. She took a deep breath in and tried to forget about everything else. Dang, she should have stayed in her dorm. This was such a bad idea.

Then Linda asked her if she liked to sketch. "Yeah. I mean, no, I don't mind... Come over.", she said, giving Linda place to sit. It had been a long time since Mellani had met Linda for the first time and they hadn't talked much since then. Hence, the fact that Linda was willing to talk to her now surprised her and also made her a bit suspicious of Linda. Yes, Lind was a good person but people change and Mellani didn't really know Linda much. Maybe Linda had just come here because she wanted to know what really happened in the library wand wanted to be able to spread gossip. That's was people did, wasn't it?

I need to stop. I need to stop thinking everyone's a suspect. But how? How do I stop? How do I not call someone who hasn't talked to me for months now a suspect? Because if not that, what else are they? The thoughts flooded Mellani's head as she resisted the urge to hold her head in her hands and cry out.

Mellani looked at Linda. She seemed genuine enough when she apologized for not talking to Mellani. She could just be acting but Mellani decided to trust her, for now at least. Mellani wasn't going to reveal anything about the detention incident and she was glad Linda wasn't pestering or even asking her to do so. "It's fine", Mellani responded to Linda apology.

Linda then ventured to tell Mellani that she had made a gift for her. Was this a bribe to get Mellani to trust her? Mellani didn't know but she was hoping it wasn't. She didn't want to end her friendship with Linda. Mellani's curiosity got the best of her. "I'd like to see it...", she said, a curious smile forming on her face.

When Linda asked Mellani if she could see what Mellani was sketching, Mellani wasn't sure how to say no to her. Mellani's sketches weren't ones she shared and she'd like to keep it private. In the end she responded saying, "Maybe later?", not sure how else to say no without sounding rude or ignorant towards Linda. Mellani sighed softly. She was doing this all wrong. She should have stayed in a place more private instead of in the Small Hall where anyone and everyone would be able to spot her.

"I am really sorry for that. I'll try to not disappear like that anymore." Linda couldn't help but still was feeling guilty. I just need to not forget about friends while I'm focusing on studying. I can lose all my friends like that. "Do you want me to bring it now or later? It's not going to take much time. I don't know whether you will like it or not, but that's okay." Linda felt a bit worried. She didn't make gifts a lot and surely it was not for everyone. It was nothing to make Mellani trust her more or anything like that. She just felt like she wanted to do it back then. Only after asking about sketching Linda remembered: not everyone likes to share their sketches. Also they still didn't know each other that much for Mellani to trust her a lot. Linda was a type of person who believed that trust can be earned only by actions and by some time. "Oh it's okay if you don't want to share. I understand. I am sketching sometimes too and there are some I don't share with anyone. Do you mind telling me something about you? I'd like to know you better as I hope we can be really close friends by some time." Sketching, books, what else did they have in common? "I'm sorry for bothering you. We can talk another time if you would like to stay alone now." Linda wanted to say that she noticed also that Mellani was sad, so she wanted to be with her and kinda support. But talking about it will surely remind her about detention and Linda wasn't going to talk about it unless Mellani decided otherwise. Maybe now wasn't the best time to learn more about her friend, but leaving her now alone also wasn't good idea. Why would she call herself a friend then if she would walk away that easily. So Linda hoped so much that Mellani won't distance herself now.

Mellani looked at Linda as she apologized about not being there for such a long time. She really did seem sorry. "It's okay... It was my fault too. I should have been a better friend and talked to you instead of not interacting with you for such a long time. I'm sorry.", she said. She was genuinely sorry for not being a better friend to Linda. She realized that she had to let go of being suspicious and make up for lost time.

Mellani shrugged at Linda's question. "It's your choice... Although I probably don't deserve the gift since I've been such a bad friend to you...", Mellani replied, looking down out of embarrassment. Here Linda was, offering to give her a gift and what was she doing in return? That's right, she wasn't even trusting Linda.

Mellani shrugged, "Feel free to ask me whatever you like... I don't exactly know what to say. And it's fine. I'm fine with talking right now.", Mellani said. She really wasn't sure what to say to Linda. It was like her whole mind had gone blank when Linda asked her about herself. Sometimes, Mellani doubted if she even knew anything much about herself. Mellani looked away, wondering why she sounded so distant whenn she was talking to Linda.

Mellani nodded. She too thought that they could be better friends someday. She looked at Linda, wondering how long it would take, if it would take long at all, for them to become better friends.

She loooked at Linda as Linda bombarded her with questions, trying not to miss any. "I don't exactly have a favorite colour. I like grey, green and light shades of purple though. As for my amortentia, I haven't smelt the potion so I don't know yet. I like playing music from time to time. I think that's it.", Mellani said, hoping that she hadn't missed any questions that Linda asked her.

Mellani smiled at Linda as she said that they could write each other letters in the future to stay in touch and nodded. "That's a great idea!", she said, then nodded again as Linda got up and went to get the gift. In the small time she got alone, Mellani took time to think about her friendship with Linda. About how she'd been so absorbed in her own thoughts, she'd completely forgotten about one of the first people who had actually talked to her in Hogwarts, not caring for her house or blood status. She sighed, making a promise to herself that she would try to be better friends with Linda from now on. They had both made their mistakes, now, it was their turn to resolve them and fix their friendship.

When Linda came back with the gift, Mellani smiled. The gift was neatly wrapped in forest green, a colour that Mellani found beautiful. She looked at the serpent and smiled. "Thanks Linda... You're so sweet to think of this!", Mellani said, wondering if she should open the gift or if she would look greedy if she did it.

Then again, Linda would probably feel bad if she didn't open the gift. Mellani sighed, waiting for Linda to give the go ahead. If Linda didn't tell her to open the gift, she wouldn't do it.
