First class jitters were common, Nora expected, but this was more of an itching curiosity. Ever since getting her letter, she'd been filled with anticipation at the thought of finally learning something about the wizarding world. Beyond the little bits and clips her dad had told her about his job, she knew next to nothing about magic. She'd never gone to his work, or met his wizarding friends, or been to any magical communities. She'd never held his wand, or seen him cast a spell, or even read a book on it. All she knew were the fantastical tales he played out when she was younger, of spells, potions, dragons and excitement. But now? Now, Nora was at a school brimming with all the knowledge that had been held back from her for years. And it was time for her first lesson, Herbology.

While it wasn't exactly the zapping start that Nora had wanted, it was certainly enough to pique her interest. After all, Herbology was taught at Hogwarts for a reason, and she didn't want to miss out on whatever plant they were introduced to first. Briefly, she wondered what classified something as a "magical" plant, or a "muggle plant". It was the same thing she’d wondered when reading Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, especially with some of them seeming very similar to what would be considered muggle animals. But maybe it wasn't such a mystery, if they all had at least an inkling of magic associated with them.

Nora stopped her trek towards the greenhouses to adjust her robes, which had fallen loose as she walked. Once fixed, she continued her pace, and soon made it to the doors. Realising they were shut, Nora decided to wait outside. It seemed that no one was here yet anyways, and she didn't want to barge in if the professor wasn't ready. Sinking to the ground, she tried to get comfortable as she waited. Who knows how long it would be?

A whole week of classes had passed, or almost. It was the last day before a short weekend of respite, and it was still full of novelty. This time, it was a new class. One she hadn't had before, and finding the greenhouses hadn't been as easy as one might have thought. It wasn't so much spotting them on the grounds, so much as finding an exit that led towards them she could use. She vowed to spend the weekend finding her bearings. To meander the halls until she had paths she knew how to follow more efficiently.

Once at the greenhouses, she noted another Slytherin there. It was easy to recognize the emerald of their robes, even at a distance. Perhaps not as harsh a contrast as the yellow of Hufflepuffs or the burgundy of Gryffindor, but she was glad for it. She welcomed anyone that could potentially make for a friend or an ally. It seemed magical school had alliances like any other location. She had noticed those trenches building in her old school in her previous year. Overall, she was just glad to be away from the pettiness. Of course, it was one thing to know your potential friends and enemies and another entirely to have to start fresh, and that was exactly what was happening to the young woman. Asides from Effie whom she had spent over six hours on a train with, Alora hadn't really gotten to know many. A few names came back to her from the welcome feast. A white-haired boy named Colin had been nice.

"Oh awesome, I'm not late," she announced herself. She had a knack for sneaking up on people, and of what she knew, people didn't usually appreciate that. "How'd you make it here so fast?" she inquired, hoping she had found someone with a better sense of direction. Alora liked to consider herself somewhere between a cat and a homing pigeon. She could figure out her way back.

"I'm Alora by the way," she extended a hand as she introduced herself.

The ground near the greenhouses wasn't exactly comfortable, but Nora didn't mind. It was better than standing. What she did mind however, was the boredom. And, oh was she bored.

Free time wasn't something Nora always coped well with, and neither was sitting still. Without something to do, somewhere to go, something to watch, she was hopeless, and her parents hated it. Her father, in particular, would get upset with her during their arguments if she couldn't hold herself together. She would tap her foot, bounce her knee, twiddle her fingers, or pick at her nails, but no matter what, she just couldn't stop. Now was no different, and as Nora waited for other students, she grew more and more bored.

Finally, the voice of a young girl broke her from her misery. "Oh awesome, I'm not late," she said, and Nora's gaze glanced up from the piece of grass she was slowly obliterating. Ah, another Slytherin. She had dark hair, pale skin, and deep green eyes, which were drawn out by both the colour of her robes, and the surrounding plants. After a second, the other student added, "How'd you make it here so fast?"

Nora hadn't really thought about it, though she supposed she could have probably headed out later than she did. "Oh," she replied, keeping her voice calm but still bright, "I guess I didn't realize how early I came." Her mother had always been one to be out the door early, but Nora was not. Her prompt arrival was surprising to even her! Getting up, Nora brushed herself off before saying, "I'm Nora, Nora De Carie. You?"

Nora was a beautiful name. It reminded her of her sister's name, but somehow without the hindrance of a consonant as it rolled off the tongue. "It's a pleasure to meet you Nora," she smiled before responding with a more elaborate greeting. It was still so odd for her to add her last name when introducing herself. As though something could be told of the name she had had no say in receiving. It wasn't even her father's name. Of course, none of the Graves children knew their father."I'm Alora, Alora Graves," she said as though she'd always introduced herself that way.

"Makes two of us," she added. "I'm usually late to things or ridiculously early," She explained. It might have seemed at odds, but there was no in-between. She had a knack for getting distracted; despite the best intentions to make it where she planned to, she also lost track of time or found something more entertaining along the way. At magic school, absolutely everything had the potential to be distracting. It also didn't help that the entire school had moving staircases and obstacles along the way.

"The stairs must have been kind or something," she said out loud. "I mean for me," she added. "Sometimes I swear the school tries to make me late for class, she continued with a bit of a laugh. It was honest, she swore those moving staircases were meant to cause students to be tardy. How did one even remember those patterns? Was there even a pattern or was it just chaos? So many questions filled her, and so few yielded results.

It dawned on her that she was being rude by making everything about her. "I haven't seen you around yet, then again, I'm a bit of a mess mysel... So where are you from? How's the school and house treating you? What's your favorite dinosaur?"
