Closed A First Time for Charms PV Mellani & Caoimhe

Mellani was very excited for her first charms class. From what she'd heard, this was going to be a class where they would cast spells. Mellani had never cast a spell before. It had been only five days that she had entered Hogwarts and, in general, the magic world. Before that she had found magic to just be something that little kids read about in their fantasy books. Nothing real. And then, a professor had come to her house and had broken out the news to her parents. Her life had been entirely different since then.

And when she was in the train, she had heard all those things about Slytherins. It had sounded like Slytherin definitely wasn't a house that you wanted to be in! And then the Sorting Hat had spoken. And guess what house she had been sorted into. That's right. Slytherin. She'd been really nervous at first but she wasn't one to judge others by reputation or looks.

Finding the Charms classroom had taken quite a bit of time but it hadn't been too hard since Mellani was used to finding classrooms back in her old school. She entered the classroom, looking around shyly and then resolved to sit one seat away from another girl in the Slytherin uniform.

Then a girl approached them and asked if she could sit. Mellani gave her a kind smile. "I don't mind!" she said cheerily. Looks like her first class wouldn't be too lonely after all! She was glad someone else had asked to sit close.

Third Floor, Charms

Even though the day had just merely begun, Caoimhe was already falling victim to exhaustion. Despite her homeschooling, Caoimhe was unprepared for the transition from her modest home to navigating the enormous castle, at which she was expected to attend an assortment of lectures.

She would forego breakfast to spend her time sleeping in before caring for her appearance before the first class would commence. Under her impassive, lifeless hazel eyes, dark circles were visible despite the light makeup she applied to enhance her appearance though. Despite continually feeling behind schedule all day, Caoimhe managed to arrive at each class early. Her father instilled in her the belief that tardiness was an undesirable characteristic to have especially among the Pureblood class, despite her not truly being Pureblood, she'd actively adhere to these customs.

Caoimhe was becoming irritable from lack of sustenance, and lunchtime could not arrive soon enough. She attempted to remain silent about the girl (Mellani) who sat close by her despite Caoimhe's hopes of being left alone, but she refrained from responding  to avoid trouble. Only a heavy sigh would be her greeting to the girl, her hand massaging the tension found on her tired features. Luckily the fellow Slytherin wouldn't say anything to Caoimhe, and so she'd hold onto hope the silence would continue until Charms began.

But this wouldn't be the case; another Slytherin would approach the duo asking if she could sit. At least this girl would ask permission, the Snake could respect that at least despite the other girl. Caoimhe regarded the two girls with a lackadaisical expression; neither presented to belong to the Pureblood class, but the girl waiting for permission appeared more formal and polite than the other.

To Caoimhe's annoyance, the one seated would respond for both of them before she was able to reply. Knowing that it was too late to turn back, Caoimhe merely bit her tongue and smiled faintly to the girls. When the Vipress had finished analyzing the girls, she would say: "Sure, be our guest,"
Only through dialogue could she learn more about the two Slytherins because, in her opinion, she had gathered all the information that was visible on the surface concerning their mannerisms, body language, looks, and uniform quality. But did she truly want to take that plunge? Time would tell.

September 5th, 2022 Charms class.

A bit of relief washed over Alora as the first girl gave her the go to take a seat. She seemed nice. There was something about her that Alora felt pulled to. Perhaps it was the soft features, or that look in her eyes that made the first year sense a kindred spirit. Not the kind to prank or be flamboyant with, but a different call. More subtle, one she did her best to suppress on a daily basis. A mixture of fear and wonder, the very things that often led to her being called young and small.

Beside her was another student that graciously invited her. Of course, the words certainly suggested as much, but there was more to the other. A spunk that called to Alora's more exuberant outbursts. With an easy smile, she took a seat where she had opted and was pleased for a moment. With her black messenger bag on the ground, she pulled out parchment and quill, looking over to the black-haired girl beside her.

"You think we'll actually need our wands for this one?" So many classes had begun with a demand for them to put it away. "Really keen on learning something more than theory," she admitted between the other two, placing the length of chestnut on her desk. Screw it; worst case, she'd merely put it away and get to sigh and grumble in discontent.

Many seemed to include their surname in introductions here, so when Alora finally brought herself to break the ice, she followed the introduction rules she was learning. "I'm Alora, Alora Graves, and you two?" she asked between the both of them. There was a chance they'd have to work together for the class. Best to get some niceties out of the way.

Mellani looked at the other girl as she heaved out a sigh as greeting. Mellani was pretty sure this girl did not want to interact with her and hence, she refrained from saying anything to the girl. She wondered if she should get up and sit somewhere else but then decided that that would make it awkward and, if the other girl wanted her to get up, Mellani wouldn't mind being told so.

Mellani could feel the girl judging both her and the new person as she invited the new person to take a seat. Mellani was wondering whether they would be able to do any magic when the new girl asked that exact question. "Me too!", Mellani replied. As in she too is really wishing that they learn something other than theory.

"I'm Mellani Miller", she replied to Alora, a kind smile on her face. Alora seemed friendly. Mellani felt that she could be good friends with this girl. She silently looked at the board, wondering what they would be learning today. Probably just basics like rules and precautions but Mellani hoped they would also be able to learn a spell or two. It would be her first spell, after all.
