As a History Teacher, spells were few and far between in her classes. Today Aoi hosted an optional class for teaching useful skills. And she was thoroughly ready to exercise her spellcasting skills. Her wandwork was feeling rusty, and she needed to get a little practice. What better way than extra spell lessons. And today’s lesson was quite the useful dueling spell, the Sneezing Hex. Nothing like distracting your opponent to turn the tide of a battle.
The students all filed into her room, which she had prepared for the today’s lesson. The tables and desks had been removed, and in their place were practice dummies. A simple wooden post with a bag of sand attached seemed to fit perfectly. They were lined up in a row at the back of the room ready to absorb the practiced hexes.
“Good morning, and welcome to spell practice. Today we will learn the sneezing hex. You will find that this spell is invaluable in duels. Or if needed to distract someone long enough to get away. I’d say the name of the hex speaks for itself, so let’s get on to how it works.”
Aoi withdrew her own wand, the well-polished wood shining in the light of the morning sun casting in through the windows. “Now, keep in mind all the rules of spell-casting you should’ve learned in your charms classes. The spell is fairly simple. A quick downward motion, outward toward the intended target.” She quickly flicked the wand, demonstrating the motion three times.
“Now, the other part of the spell we need is the incantation, no? Repeat after me. Steleus. STE-lee-us.” Aoi turned back to face the dummies, preparing to demonstrate the entire spell.
“Steleus!” she said simply, motioning her wand, as green rings erupted from her wand. They flowed across the room, contacting the dummies, and dissipating upon them. But of course nothing happened. Aoi raised her hand to silence the incoming questions before anyone could voice what she knew would be coming.
“No, nothing happened. But then again, it’s a tad difficult for a dummy to sneeze now isn’t it? I can assure you, that should those rings hit something capable of sneezing, it’d be quite the unenjoyable experience. The effects cause uncontrollable sneezing. No matter how much will you have to resist, you will sneeze. The effects last 3-5 seconds, which doesn’t sound long, but will feel long. Now, I’d like everyone to pair up, and practice the spell until you believe you’ve mastered it. If you have any other questions, just voice them during the class, and I’ll do my best to address them. Let’s have some fun guys”
And with that, she leaned against the wall, watching her pupils scramble to start casting their new hex.
Remember to avoid godmodding, not only of me but of any fellows students or staff. If you have a question or comment you may owl me or post on the FAQ thread. Thank you.

The Sneezing Hex
Eri listened to Aoi explain the spell and how to do it. It looked simple but that didn't mean that it would be easy to cast. She watched her demonstrate the spell on a couple of dummies. Well that is how the spell is supposed to work and now they were supposed to go and try the spell with a partner. Eri asked a random Ravenclaw to be her partner and the walked over to a space not crowded with people. The brunette pulled out her wand from inside the special compartment in her robes designed to keep her wand.
"Steleus" Eri moved her wand in a quick downward movement outward towards her partner.
In reality she is not sure that her spell will work, but she hopes it is successful. It would be a good spell to use against someone who wanted to attack her. It would be a good distraction. Though she didn't want the spell to be used on her. She didn't like sound of uncontrollable sneezing That just sounded awful. Maybe it was like the tickling charm. She hated that spell. It was used on her during her first year and it was quite painful to feel like you are being tickled.

Professor Edit: Aoi watched as a young Ravenclaw quickly managed the hex, leaving her partner in a sneezing fit. She raised an eyebrow. Quite impressive. "Well done Miss Windstone. You managed the hex gracefully."

Tina walked into the History of Magic classroom, excited to learn something new in Professor Sky’s optional class. She paid close attention to every detail and took notes on every word that she had said. She was aware that her methods of learning were a bit extreme, but she wanted to get the spell right in one of her first tries. She had always been the kind of person who was self driven to succeed. Other people may think she set her standards way too high for herself, but she would never expect people to understand as she never put that same pressure on them.
“I have to remember to concentrate as a do the correct gesture and pronounce the right incantation,” she says to herself before taking a long deep breath. She knew if she felt too anxious or nervous that the spell wouldn’t work correctly. After reaching a state of peace, she started practicing the incantation by comparing its syllables of made up words, “STE-lee-us! STE as in STEmulina, LEE as in leetophone, and US as in USanika.”
Feeling more relaxed, she began moving her wand with a quick downward movement going out towards the open air. She performed this with a loose movement and a firm grip on her wand. When she was ready, she pointed her wand towards herself. Focused and relaxed, she moved it with a quick downward movement going in towards her chest while saying, “STE-lee-us!” A green ring emitted from her wand before she closed her eyes and let out a few big sneezes that seemed to have lasted a century.

Professor Edit: Aoi listened with interest as another young Ravenclaw girl spoke unknown words to remember the incantation. How interesting. Perhaps a different language. Regardless the girl had successfully cast the hex. "Fantastic work Miss Addington. Keep up the hard work." Steleus learned.

The Sneezing Hex

Cecily smiled as she entered the History of Magic classroom. There were always new and exciting things to learn, and she always enjoyed it.
She became serious as she listened to Professor Risa's words, but then frowned in her mind as the professor explained that they would be learning a Sneezing Hex.
Cecily never knew there was a spell that could make other people sneeze. It definitely seemed very cruel to have to do that to someone, but Cecily understood if it was meant for a very evil person. She became even more alarmed, however, when she heard that they would have to split up and practice on each other.
They usually did this when practicing a new spell, but against other people, this just seemed mean.
Cecily paired up with someone and went to the corner of the room. As she walked over there, she repeated the incantation in her head like she always did.
STE-lee-us. STE-lee-us. Steleus. Come on, Cecily.
The incantation was not very hard to say, which Cecily was thankful for. There were other spells like the Dancing Feet Spell that had confusing and hard incantations, as least for her.
Cecily had been closing her eyes all this time, and so when she opened them her partner stood across from her, ready.
"Steleus!" Cecily cried at her parnter. Nothing happened. Cecily rolled her eyes. She rarely never got a spell on the first try.
Like always. I never concentrate hard enough. Cecily thought. She tried again, this time focusing as hard as she could.
"Steleus," Cecily said. She flicked her wand a downward motion and then towards her partner. Green rings errupted from her wand and immediately her partner started sneezing.
"I'm so sorry. It will be over soon. Oh. Eek. Ouch," Cecily commented as her partner continued to sneeze. Like the professor said, the sneezing went on for about five seconds, although it seemed like ages.
Cecily continued to aplogize to her partner, but then, to her much surprise, smiled on the inside. This would be a neat and helpful spell in a duel.

Professor Edit: Aoi was impressed with Ravenclaw house today. So many from the house of wit were mastering the basics of the hex rapidly. She frowned at the apologies for casting the spell though. These kids needed to have resolve. "Amazing effort Miss Queen. No need to apologize. After all they get to cast it on you as well. Remember that intent is important in spell casting. Don't let trepidation or hesitation stop you."

The Sneezing Hex
Daniel didn’t like History of Magic. It was boring. Why did he care about history? Sure, he understood the idea that history repeated itself, but he didn’t care for listening. Plus, the class mostly involved sitting and listening to something he could read. Books were interesting. The class? Not so much. The only time he enjoyed history of magic was when he mastered Oculus Reparo, which was a different version of the repairing charm he learned elsewhere. Maybe that was why he showed up to the class this time, when he heard there’d be a class that wasn’t super boring.
Overall, Daniel thought the spell being taught would be gross. Sneezes were just a mess of germs and sickness. Yeah, continuous sneezes were annoying, especially those ones that lasted five-six-seven seconds, or for multiple sneezes in a row, but a spell for that? He rubbed his forehead. At least it’d be helpful if he ever went into dueling or something. It was really something he was interested in.
Actually, now that he thought about it, Daniel was interested in almost all aspects of Hogwarts’ extracurricular activities.
Even so, he watched as the professor practiced the movement towards dummies. It was equally stupid of other students to question why it didn’t work. When it was time to practice, Daniel was on his feet, choosing another first year. The other boy didn’t seem very interested, and the Slytherin wondered why he was even there. No matter. Pawns for the taking, he told himself quietly. He rolled his tongue against the top of his teeth and withdrew his wand.
“I’ll go first,” he said to the other boy, who gave a shrug of his lanky shoulders. Daniel took a moment to practice the movements of the spell before he practiced the incantation. “Steleus.” It felt strange to say, and Daniel pondered the incantation. Was it from Latin roots? Greek? He rubbed his own nose as he thought about it. Whatever; for now, it really didn’t matter.
He aimed his wand at the other student and flicked his wrist in the same manner as the professor did, and with a clear voice said, “Steleus.” He wasn’t sure what had happened, considering nothing worked right at first, but practice always made perfect. He took a deep breath, relaxed his shoulders (something his father always reminded him: spell casting required relaxation and focus), and tried again.
“Steleus.” This time, it was said straight and simple, focused, and ready. This time, the green rings emerged from the tip of his wand towards the other student. They hit the other boy, and after a brief moment, the sneezing started to happen. At least, Daniel figured as he lowered his wand and waited for the other boy to stop his fit, this would be helpful someday.

Professor Edit: (Will insert RP response at a later date, but I am simply validating this so you have the spell.) Steleus learned.Dmitri Kazimir Jones dumped his heavy knapsack onto the desk and sat down heavily, not at all happy at the fact that he was currently in the History of Magic classroom right then.
Don't get him wrong, he did find the subject quite interesting, actually. The Slytherin boy's dreams of becoming a spellcrafter stemmed from his interest in the written accounts of mischief and happy accidents of countless wizards and witches when it came to the magic involved in inventing potions and spells; potions and spells everyone in the Magical world used in their households and taught in their educational institutions to this very day.
No. Dmitri was upset by the fact that he had to work beside other houses. Much worse: the First Years.
On his way to the classroom, he has bumped into so many loud, obnoxious, giddy eleven year-olds gawping at the talking paintings or gasping at the moving staircases that he couldn't stomach even one more breath, much less one more excitable squeal from said children (the Slytherin first years were more civilized but quite a bit sonorous, still). Granted, Dmitri was only a year older (many more years wiser, he'd like to think), but he never could find a time in the past where he was that... grating.
Maybe it was the conspicuous lack of coffee in his system or the lack of pumpkin pasties in the breakfast table this morning that was talking, but he was done with it all.
Dmitri's one reprieve was the spell they were going to be taught. He hadn't been able to attend this one class when he was in his first year.
Not his fault.
Peeves and sewer-water-balloons should never be mixed.
He would have studied and practiced the spell alone and bloody did well for himself then, but he quite forgot said spell existed when term finals were a looming threat a few months ago. He could never accept getting Es or he'll quite frankly hang himself from the Gryffindor tower. Maybe too dramatic, but that's how he feels.
Will he ever do it? No. But will he consider it? Absolutely.
So now he's excited, and getting ever closer to First-Year-giddy territory. That was a scary thought.
Finally getting to practice the spell after the short discussion and demonstration by Professor Risa, Dmitri immediately jumped up and grabbed the first First Year he could get his hands on.
"Hello. I'm Dmitri." The second year smirked. "Let's dance." Dmitri adjusted his position to the standard duelling stance and pointed his chestnut wand at his target. Steleus. Emphasis on the STE and a crisp pronunciation of LEUS. He had done quite a reading on the spell beforehand, thus the heavy knapsack.
"If you want to impress the professor, you'd want to know that Steleus protected a small village of wizards from a bandit caravan raid back in the 1500s. The thieves were keeping a herd of tamed Blast-Ended Skrewts to lay siege to any town or village, but that ended up backfiring when a lucky sneezing hex hit said creatures; creatures that promptly ended up turning the bandit caravan into smoldering ashes even before they entered the village gates.
"So just remember to watch your... other end when you sneeze too hard or you might end up..." Dmitri coughed, "...blasting, just like those poor, hilarious Skrewts." He snickered before saying the incantation firmly.
"Steleus." Downward flick on the STE, quick forward stab at the LEUS. If the spell wouldn't succeed, he would continue until he finally got the hang of it and could cast it 100% of the time.

The Sneezing Hex
Professor Edit: (Will insert RP response at a later date, but I am simply validating this so you have the spell.) Steleus learned.Ellara sat at one of the desks near the front of the room, parchment, quill, and a pot of ink neatly laid out before her at the start of class. Though she wouldn’t verbally admit it to anyone, the young Hufflepuff student was a bit nervous about performing charms. She could survive most of the other classes with simple knowledge and study about the various topics, which usually made History of Magic one of her favorites, but executing spells required actual magical talent, something she often feared she did not possess. Still, she’d do her best to fake it until she made it, and perhaps there’d be a change of plans and the lesson would be kept to simple note-taking for the day.
Of course, when Professor Risa, entered the classroom and announced they’d be working on spell casting for the day, she knew the simple “note-taking” task would not be taking place today. Quite frankly, all of Ellara’s preferences had been turned around since she’d arrived at Hogwarts. The eleven-year-old girl had always hated taking notes, and she usually loved projects and hands-on activities. She hoped her anxiety wouldn’t ruin her fun forever.
The young Hufflepuff quietly slipped her parchment, quill, and pot of ink back into her satchel back while the Professor spoke, explaining that they’d be working on the sneezing hex today. Her interest was sparked at the mention of duels - though Ellara had never participated in one herself (duh!), she hoped to join the club once it had been opened up to the general public. She figured the whole point was to make the opponent sneeze, which she guessed would distract them from the battle itself. It made enough sense to her!
Ellara silently practiced the wand movement with her hand underneath her desk as Professor Risa demonstrated the motion, a quick downward flick reaching outward towards the target. The incantation was something else entirely. While most sounded vaguely familiar to the name, the word Steleus was a bit of a stretch for her. Still, she repeated it with the rest of the class, trying to grasp the unfamiliar word on her tongue. ”Steleus. STE-lee-us…”
She regarded the Professor’s example closely, trying to memorize her exact moments. Naturally, she was a bit surprised when the green light emitting from her wand caused nothing to happen, but it made sense that a dummy couldn’t sneeze! She shared a silent laugh with herself and listened to the Professor’s final instructions before moving to practice on herself. Ellara stood up carefully, pronouncing ”Steleus… Steleus… Steleus…” a few times, until she was satisfied with her work.
Once done, she lifted her wand and said, ”Steleus!”, flicking her wand toward herself, as demonstrated by the Professor’s instruction. A flash of green light emitted from the end of her wand, and she began to break out into uncontrollable sneezes. Achoo! After what seemed like an eternity, it finally stopped, and she managed to gasp in a good breath of air.

After the introduction, Zolderane wanted to start practising the pronunciation of the spell and the wrist movement. So she went straight to practice the wrist movement so she was 100% sure that she was doing it correctly.
After she was sure that she was using the correct wrist movement she started practising the pronunciation. It did not take long for her to be 100% sure that she was pronouncing it correctly and starting trying to cast the spell.
"STE-lee-us," she said boldly. Instantly her victim started sneezing and could not stop. Zolderane felt sorry for her victim and once they had finished sneezing they cast steleus on Zolderane. For the rest of the lesson, Zolderane learnt how to cast the spell quietly. To start off with she moved her mouth in the shape of the words but by the end of the lesson, she could cast the spell barely moving her mouth.
Zolderane thought that it was some kind of dream. She was only in her first year and they did not start learning how to silently cast spells until their sixth year and many fully grown wizards and witches could not do it. Yet there she was in her first year very quietly casting spells. She was obviously going to be a very powerful witch.

The Sneezing Hex
Elena grinned as she looked for a partner, she'd always enjoyed Professor Risa's History of Magic classes and had practically danced in joy at finding out that she was teaching optional extra classes. The Slytherin eventually found a Hufflepuff girl willing to partner up with her and the made their way over to a less populated part of the classroom.
Both the girls volunteered to be hexed first, but the Hufflepuff managed to convince Elena that the blue haired girl should try out the new spell before she did, Elena practiced the pronunciation a few times just in case, "Ste-lee-us, ste-lee-us, like stele."
"Steleus." Elena said calmly, and flicked her wand at the girl. Green rings burst out of the end of her wand and struck the other girl in the chest. The girl started to have a sneezing fit, and Elena dashed over.
"Are you okay?" She asked the girl, with a worried look in her eyes, the girl finished sneezing, then gave a smile and a thumbs up.
Elena put her wand back and prepared herself to be hit by the steleus hex, the Hufflepuff hit her dead on and soon Elena herself had a sneezing fit, it was actually really kind of annoying, and by the end of it she felt like she couldn't breathe.
"Damn that's a powerful hex, I'm glad to be learning it but I don't exactly want to have to feel that again." Elena croaked, "Good job, that was awesome."

The Sneezing Hex
Samantha listened intently while Ms. Aoi performed the Sneezing Hex.
Hmm. The hex should produce green circles. Downward then outward flick towards your opponent. Samantha mumbled to herself.
Her gaze scoured the room, looking at the different students trying to perform the hex. She paid close attention to the students who performed the motion and incantation correctly, thus producing the same green circles that Ms. Aoi had shown them.
Samantha quickly scoured through the Book of Spells for the hex. It wasn't that she didn't trust Ms. Aoi, she was just so used to reading the instructions multiple times before even attempting magic. Due to Samantha's noble, but isolated background she was afraid of messing up in front of her classmates, and therefor had to make the proper preparations in order to gain confidence.
She practiced the movement a few times, until she felt confident she wouldn't mess up due to the wrong movement. Downward, then out towards her target. *flick*.
After a few minutes she felt like she had the movement figured out, and started working on the pronunciation.
Samantha put her want back into the compartment in the robe, and repeated the intonation in her head a few times. STÉ-lee-us. Stèleus. Stelèus. Steleus.
She finally felt like she had both the movement and intonation correct.
Samantha made her way towards a classmate she thought was looking for a partner aswell.
"Hey, want to practice on each other?"
The classmate nodded. Samantha felt like her partner was still a bit unsure, so she went first. With a somewhat fluid downward motion, then outwards pointing at her partner. "Steleus".
