┏ ┓-----A nd now, it seemed, she was on a charm offensive.
He hadn’t taken her interest personally, but he had definitely posed that as question as yet another inviting ploy to see how she’d react. If she had opted to double down, that would surely have made things interesting, but for now she had elected to continue to offer her assistance.
She was a curious girl, and he was having trouble pinning her motives. Avery couldn’t quite rule her out of the running for being the note-writer, but he had a pretty good inkling that she wasn’t. Even if he was wrong, there couldn’t be anything too malign in the meaning of the note right? – Her suggestion was respectable and practical, and not something he had ever tried; at least with a wand.
“You know, let’s do that. - Just got to find something to throw, I guess.” He replied, opening up a tad more as he warmed to the idea.
“My brothers used to do the same when they were teaching me archery. They’d use small roughspun sacks of sand, toss them up and I’d have to shoot them. Obviously we don’t have those but, do you have an idea as to what you can throw?” He said, much more pleasantly. He stepped away and invited her beneath the branches of the oak; it wasn’t as sheltered as it would be later in the spring but it was certainly better than standing out in the field.

Alana smiled brightly up at Avery. Alana's wide grin seemed to radiate happiness. While the young girl sea-foam eyes sparkled like the starry night sky. The young fiery red haired girl followed Avery over towards the under growth of the large oak tree. Alana scanned the area around them. As Avery explained how his brothers taught him archery the young girls interest seemed piqued.
"You know Archery? That sounds fun maybe you could possibly teach me? Or not it's no big deal. I think shooting arrows be fun. Well learning new things is fun."
Alana spoke softly with a slight ramble as she looked around under the oak. Avery gave her an idea to try and find an object that would be easy to throw like maybe a rock or a pinecone quite possibly. The young girls fiery red hair gently swayed as Alana moved around her sea-foam blue eyes scanning the grounds like a cat eyeing it's prey. Alana softly hummed as she gazed towards the roots of the tree that stuck out spotting a fairly damp looking pinecone the brown pinecone seemed to have a few lighter spots. Alana softly picked up being careful to try not to poke herself more then the pinecone already would have.
The fiery red haired girl turned around to look at Avery with a radiating smile though it was just an average pinecone. Alana felt like she was being fairly helpful after all the young Gryffindor girl loves being helpful. Alana hopped over to Avery happily holding out the pinecone like it was a grand prize though she figured the young boy may find this scene rather childish or plain crazy after all Alana is not an average girl.
"Look what I found! I can throw this pinecone and you could practice on it. I think I saw more over their by the crevice of the roots. It's not those roughspun sacks of sand but they are something interesting do you not agree? Or maybe I should look for rocks instead."
Alana spoked excitedly though she spoke softly at the end as if she was questioning herself deeply. Her sea-foam eyes stared down at the pinecone in her hands as the young girl seemed to get lost in thought though she was unsure of what to do she figured the pinecone be very useful it was a decent density to throw and it was not to light either.
Alana gazed back up towards Avery as she continued to think quietly to herself. The pinecone still semi reached out towards Avery though she was not expecting him to grab it after all he seemed like the type not to touch anything that was to unsanitary. Alana smiled sheepishly awaiting an answer though she was preparing herself for some ridicule of her offering to use this little pinecone though the pinecone was the size of Alana's hands but that is not saying much sense the young girl herself is small.

┏ ┓----- T he thought of him teaching this girl archery was a funny one indeed. He had learned because he had to; a pureblood sport that made the most of the privilege of their wealth. She wouldn’t understand that, and there didn’t seem much for him to gain by teaching her; but perhaps once he’d understood her motives he could make a more informed decision; so far she seemed genuinely supportive but how long that would last was a question he dearly wanted answered.
“I do, my brothers taught me. - I’m not a very good teacher though, but I am sure there is a club for such here at school?” He gave, uncertain. She then started moving around beneath the canopy, before reaching to the floor; prompting him to follow her reach with squinted eyes to see what she found.
To her suggestion he lit up with a smile, that was exactly the kind of thing he was looking for. “I think pinecones are a great shout, better than rocks because they can be burned I guess!” He offered a laboured smile, glancing at his wand briefly to ensure it was up to the task; his relationship with it was fraught and he often needed reassurance from it, especially when he was hoping not to fail in front of a half-blood.
She seemed to offer it out to him and he simply offered her an encouraging nod, there was no reason he’d need to inspect it and so he just gave her another awkward smile as if to cheer her on.
“I’m ready when you are…” He said, as he turned side on; ready to aim for it high in the air.

Alana listened to Avery quietly listening to his words with interest. Humming slightly in response Alana gazed up at Avery. Though the young Gryffindor girl barely knew Avery she could tell that he seemed a bit uncertain when spoke about Archery. Alana continued to gaze over at Avery smiling a sweet smile towards the boy.
"You should give yourself more credit I am sure you would be a great teacher if you put your heart to it. You never feel uncertain about your talent. I am positive you are an extremely talented person."
Alana spoke softly in her honey sweet tone smiling at Avery sweetly. Alana smiled brightly when Avery spoke up once again. Alana turned her body slightly preparing herself to steadily throw the pine-cone in the air for Avery to practice hitting spells with. Taking in a small breath Alana readied her arm to throw the pine-cone in the air. Gazing over towards Avery quietly Alana threw the pine-cone up in the air as high as the young girl could awaiting to see what Avery would do next. The young girls sea-foam blue eyes seemed to shine with pure joy and happiness. Alana felt useful helping the young Slytherin boy out with his little training after-all it seemed to bring joy to the young Gryffindor girl.

┏ ┓----- H er manner, was endearing, at least.
He hadn’t meant that in a way that put himself down, he was a most headstrong and self-assured character and his peers didn’t let him forget it; so her taking his words as truth was a surprising turn. He smiled then, probably for the first time in their interaction, as she revealed more about herself than he had expected. Alana was one of those that saw the glass as being half-full, seeing the light in all and any. Though her words were laced with a sweetness that was off-putting to him, he could perhaps buy into the pleasant demeanour of the girl. She was surely a good actress if she was indeed the note-writer, as he had earlier expected.
He didn’t choose to respond and rain on her parade, and instead waiting until she opted to launch the pinecone into the sky. Immediately his posture tightened and he adopted the usual stance he took during these kinds of encounters; turning side on and placing a hand behind his back, feeling as though if it wasn’t behind his back it would be in the way; waving about aimlessly. In an instant he flicked the tip of his wand in an upturned, curvy, ‘v’ pattern and gave the incantation for the firemaking spell loudly and clearly; “Incendio!” He cried beneath the tree, as a bolt of flame shot out of his wand and struck the falling pinecone. It fell to the floor, smouldering and crackling as the flames devoured the various facets of the pinecone, leaving him with a large grin.
”That was good, could you throw them a little higher? - If you’re really up for it , throw them quite far and I’ll see if I can shoot them out of the air?” He smiled at her then. “So uh- why’s it you’re doing this? I figured I’d have scared you off by now.┗ ┛
