The Great Hall and The Sorting Ceremony!
"OMG OMG OMG! We're actually here at Hogwarts. That boat ride was amazing by the way I've never been on a boat." Kayla said excitedly as they followed a teacher into the great hall. Hogwarts was huge with medieval architecture as she look up she saw probably a hundred candles floating above her. As Kayla looked at the student sitting down they all looked at her giving encouraging faces. This was the moment when she realised how nervous the actually was; she had butterflies in the stomach, her hands were clammy and she was hopping foot to foot in nervous excitement. She listened as the headteacher, who Kayla didn't know the name of, explained all the Hogwarts houses
The four Houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Each House has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your House points, while any rule breaking will lose House points. At the end of the year, the House with the most points is awarded the House Cup, a great honour. I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever House becomes yours. There are 4 houses:
Gryffindor: House of the courageous. Gryffindors are courageous, daring and chivalrous
Slytherin: House of the Ambition. Slytherins are ambitious, resourceful, cunning and natural leaders.
Ravenclaw: House of the Wise. Ravenclaws are wise, intelligent and tend to do well at school.
Hufflepuff: House of the Loyal. Hufflepuffs are loyal, patient, dedicated, fair and hard-working.
Kayla watched as other children got sorted and edged closer to Alyssea as they were one of the only ones left.

The boat ride was... something. The Great Lake, as they had been informed by other students on the boat, was not just a body of water between Hogwarts and Hogsmeade. It was also home to merfolk, sea creatures, and other magical marine animals that Alyssea would've believed only existed in fairy tales. Alyssea would turn her head and look into the water, urged then by her peers not to bend so far down or she'd fall in.interacting with @Kayla Smith
Beside her, Kayla looked at the castle with awe and the brightest starry eyes she'd ever seen. Alyssea could understand her excitement; as a Muggle-born, this place seemed extraordinary, beyond reality
When they entered the Great Hall, floating candles greeted them, all perched in mid-air throughout the room. There were four tables with banners each coloured and representing their group above. The lion of Gryffindor, the serpent of Slytherin, the badger of Hufflepuff, and the eagle of Ravenclaw.
Where would Alyssea end up? And would Kayla be in the same house?
After the Sorting Ceremony song (which was an interesting affair), they stood together as the Deputy Headmaster read name after name. As each student sat on the stool and the hat was placed upon them, the hat would either shout their house without thought or take their time. Despite the sorting taking no more than 5 minutes, the nerves had Alyssea thinking they were more than that. The ceremony was taking forever.
When Alyssea's name was called, she turned back to Kayla and offered a smile. Would this be their make-or-break? Surely not; friendships couldn't crumble that fast just because of a house sorting, right?
With a deep breath, she turned back to the hat and stepped up. She sat on the stool and closed her eyes as the hat lay upon her head.
"Hmm," the hat started without a second to spare, "what an open-minded girl we have tonight. Such an interesting sort."
Alyssea opened her eyes but did not bear to look at anyone. She let her eyes wander to her hands on her lap.
"You're the hard-working kind. You're intelligent, but you understand that intelligence is nothing without perseverance."
The hat hummed. "Well, this one is easy. HUFFLEPUFF!"
The hat was lifted off her head and she rose up. Members of the Hufflepuff table rose and clapped as she approached them. She turned back to Kayla, who still stood with the other unsorted individuals. Alyssea crossed her fingers.

Kayla watched as Alyssea walked to the stool to get sorted. After 2 minutes the hat shouted Hufflepuff. she clapped as Alyssea walked excitedly over to the Hufflepuff table. Next Kayla's name was called she really wanted to get into Hufflepuff so she could be with Alyssea. She nervously walked over to the stool and sat on it as the sorting hat was placed on her head.
Difficult, very difficult, You want to the the best and have ambition, and you are also very intelligent hmmm but you are going to work hard to be the best and achieve your dreams. The hat thought for a moment HUFFLEPUFF she ran down to the Hufflepuff table and sat with Alyssea "YAY!! We're in the same house this is amazing we are going to have so much fun!" she said to Alyssea as they watched the rest of the sorting. After the sorting, the headteacher gave a speech about health and safety and rules in general then they said 'Let the feast begin' and Kayla started tucking into all the delicious food that had appeared on the table. "Alyssea you need to try this thingy its delicious. This is the best day of my life!"

Alyssea crossed her fingers and watched as the hat was placed on Kayla's head. She listened as the hat voiced aloud its thoughts. Kayla seemed to have a mix of qualities between the houses; the confidence of Gryffindor, the ambition of Slytherin, and the intelligence of Ravenclaw. Where would she fit?interacting with @Kayla Smith
But the hat wasn't finished. Kayla also had the determination of a Hufflepuff.
"HUFFLEPUFF!"
Alyssea uncrossed her fingers as she jumped out of her seat. Kayla came running and Alyssea held out her arms for a hug. They sat down next to each other, squealing over their sorting. Inside, Alyssea sighed. At least she had someone she knew to start off the year.
They sat through the final sorting and listened (half-heartedly) to the general housekeeping rules. Once the students were dismissed, they all returned to the tables and gawked at the sight of food.
Alyssea stared at the table, wide-mouthed. Where would she start? The roast chicken looked juicy, but the corn sat fabulously roasted with a herbal scent. The pies also tempted Alyssea. There was too much to eat.
She took a cob of corn and bit into it. The charcoal, lemon, and herb flavours simply melted onto her tongue and her eyes widened with delight. She took another bite, and another, and another, until the pith was left (the hard rocky-like bit in the middle). She deposited the eaten cob onto her plate and took another.
Beside her, Kayla handed an item. "Alyssea, you need to try this thingy, it's delicious!"
With her other hand, she took the item and bit into it. The caramel oozed out from the hard outer layer. Alyssea nodded. "You should try the corn, it's reeeeaallyyyy good."
Alyssea ate until her chest ached. At least she wouldn't have to worry about nourishment and food here. She leaned back with a sigh.
She turned to Kayla. "What do you think the Hufflepuff dorm is gonna be like? Obviously, it's gonna be yellow, but what else, you know?"
