The campgrounds have always been Kiana's go-to place for cooking. Whenever she felt like whipping up a good meal, she'd head off to the campgrounds with her arms full and find a nice table to set up her cooking equipment. It was always a long haul, dragging pots and pans and burners all by herself. Perhaps that was why she was also very physically fit as she was smart.
Today she planned on preparing a simple dish. It was her childhood - her mother often made it for dinner on some casual nights, when the family was in a good mood. "Transforming Furikake Gohan," as it was named. It was quite ironic, actually, since the dish actually didn't contain any furikake at all. This 'furikake' (which surprisingly no one she knew could pronounce properly) was simply a dry condiment that Kiana disliked since she was a young girl. So, her mother omitted the ingredient and fed Kia the rest of the dish instead.
After setting up all of her equipment (some students were staring suspiciously at her) she sighed and pulled a note out of her bag. By now she'd already memorized the recipe and steps, but she still kept her notes handy just in case. A fail-safe plan, in short.
Kiana found that the hardest part was always making the aspic - she'd have to master that if she wanted to make good food. Kiana rolled up her sleeves, already sensing the many eyes upon her. They could watch her all they wanted, but she didn't care. She was enjoying herself to the fullest.Ingredients

That day, like most days, Ying got up pretty early for her morning exercises. It was important to her to have a balanced routine to maintain her physical and mental health. Because she was born with asthma, as long as she could remember, being responsible and taking care of her well-being was a fundamental part of her daily life, because without it she would never be able to stand for her goals and expectations.
So, in her more comfortable sports wear, she ran through the Hogwarts' grounds, a long side the great lake and towards the Campgrounds. When she got closer to the wooden cabins, she was exhausted and out of breath, maybe she had overdone it just a little bit at that time, but she had left a note for Alana in her dorm, saying that she would be exploring that part of the castle grounds, so if her best friend wanted to join her, she would know where to find her!
Bending over and leaning on her knees, Ying tried to normalize her breathing to regain her strength. It was when she finally straightened up again, with her hands supporting her waist, that a delicious smell of freshly cooked food reached the young Gryffindor. Looking around, Ying noticed that in one of the wooden houses, a girl with long and beautiful black hair was cooking, and that delicious smell was coming from there.
Ying didn't thought twice and decided to approach the other girl, "Hi" She greeted entering the cabin, "What are you cooking? Smells so good in here!" Ying said with a warm smile, "Can I help you? I'm not a good cook...but if you don't mind teaching me, I would love to learn how to make delicious meals!" She admitted curious and enthusiastically. "Oh! I'm sorry!" She apologized bringing her hand to her face feeling a little embarrassed with her lack of manners, "My name is Fang Hui-Ying! Very nice to meet you!" Ying shyly introduced herself, hoping the other girl wasn't upset with her and that she hadn't made a bad first impression.

Kiana expected to be alone. Of course, it didn’t take long for the fragrant scents of her food to attract students. A young Gryffindor, probably the same age as Kiana, approached her with a cheerful voice. She seemed tired, mos tlikely because of some sort of physical exertion. She had long, dark black hair that Kiana recognized - Chinese, perhaps? Kiana herself was part Japanese - similar, but not quite the same. Unique nonetheless. Kiana wondered if the girl was purely Chinese or if she was muggle-born. The girl introduced herself as “Fang Hui-Ying.”
”Oh, uhh hey there! Nice to meet you too, I’m Kiana. Nice name by the way, can I call you Ying for short?” Kiana asked, working on the dish. She began tossing ingredients into her pot, adjusting all sorts of dials to find the ‘just-right’ temperature for her aspic. This was the most crucial step and she couldn’t afford to mess up.
[”I definitely don’t mind showing you, if you’re okay with that. I wasn’t expecting company today so I didn’t bring extra cooking supplies. Whaddya want to know?” Kia continued to prepare her dish, setting up plates and checking on her rice to make sure it was cooking properly. The rice wasn’t that important as it was the most plain part of the dish but it was crucial to make sure that when the toppings went on the rice, the rice was still steaming hot. That was the only way for the dish to work.

The young girl seemed very focused in what she was doing. Ying was not an expert cooking or making fancy dishes. She had learned how to make simple things, like peeling potatoes, cutting vegetables in proper shapes for each dish, boiling water to make some eggs or pasta...lets say she would survive by her own, but she wouldn't have much delicious meals! So when she saw the other girl cooking such good smelling food, she had to approach and find a way to participate.
Ying felt a mix of happiness and relief when the other girl greeted her back, introducing herself as Kiana, and seemed willing to let her join her. Kiana seemed to be nice and friendly and that just added a much more light atmosphere to their meeting and Ying felt immediately at ease and comfortable around her, hopefully, new friend. "Yes, of course you can call me Ying! Can I call you Kia or Ana? what do you prefer to be called?" Ying inquired with a nice and warm smile while looking over Kiana's shoulder to pay attention to every step the other girl took to prepare her dish.
”I definitely don’t mind showing you, if you’re okay with that. I wasn’t expecting company today so I didn’t bring extra cooking supplies. Whaddya want to know?” Kiana asked her between setting the plates and watch over the rice that she was cooking. Was when Ying felt lost and a little embarrassed, seeing how the other young girl, probably same age as her, was managing to do everything like she have done it a million times, and Ying was probably be a complete disaster if she ever tried to make it all by her own. "Well... everything?" Ying replied feeling her cheeks getting a little warm and probably gaining a strong shade of red. "Sorry...I never had a chance to learn how to properly cook a meal!" She said in an apologetic tone of voice and nervously played with her fingers.
Probably the other girl would think she was dumb or a little rich and to much spoiled girl...the second guess wouldn't be totally wrong to be honest! And that's what made her feel even more embarrassed. But... Oh well, now she wanted to learn! And if the other girl didn't minded teaching her that was what mattered at the moment. "Don't worry about the extra supplies...I just want to help and learn how to make..." She mentioned everything, gesturing with her hands and open arms, "all of this like a pro! Like you!" She admitted with smile and getting ready to do everything the other girl would tell her to do.

“Hm…if you do insist on helping, I suppose you could help me chop some garlic? It’s okay if you don’t know much, I’m sure you’ll be quick to learn! I grew up around maids and chefs, but in the end my mother insisted I learn to cook and survive on my own,” Kiana laughed, removing a garlic close from her bag and handed it to Ying. ”You can call me Kia for short. Oh, and remember - when you’re chopping, always keep your fingers tucked in safely. I don’t wanna be held responsible if you chop off one of your fingers,” Kiana added with a hint of sarcasm. Of course, she had faith that Ying would be able to do it correctly. Chopping was simple, really, and virtually anyone could chop. As long as you didn’t hurt yourself, you could use a knife in literally any manner - as long as the food ended up in pieces.
Besides, Ying struck Kiana as a capable person who would no doubt learn quickly.
“Let me know if you need help. Here’s the recipe, by the way, you can always refer to the instructions. Once the dish is done, I’m sure you’ll love it!”
Kiana returned to her own work, preoccupied with the oil and how annoying it felt on her hands. Of course, every pan needed a bit of it if she wanted the chicken to come of in one piece. The meat felt slimy in her hands as she removed it from her bag and placed it gingerly on the cutting board.
She decided it would be best to break the awkward silence.
“So, how’s Hogwarts been for you? Tough? Or not bad?”

Shop some garlic...Okay! That's easy! "I can definitly do that!" Ying replied enthusiastically, piking up a knife and the garlic from the other girl's hand. "Any specific way yo want me to cut it?" she thought better to ask first, she knew some people are really picky about the way they have their vegetables prepared.
The young Gryffindor listened with much attention to every piece of information Kiana was telling her. First, because she wanted to learn everything about cooking that so delisciously smelling dish, and second, because she was curious about her. Something about the way their interaction has been was letting her realise they could actually become good friends. "I also grow up around maids and caretakers. Although I always wanted to help and learn from them, I had to pay attention to other priorities. Accordingly to my parents of course." Ying explained while starting to chop the garlic. She softly laughed at Kiana's joke about being careful to not being clumsy with the knife. "I can't promise anything!" Ying replied entering the sarcasm. A smirk made it's way to her lips and a glint of mischief illuminated her dark brown eyes.
"Can I ask you where are you from Kiana?" She asked in a friendly manner, trying to know more about the other girl. "Thank you for sharing the recipe with me I'm sure we both will enjoy our food!" she declared feeling confident with both their skills. At least they were both having fun with it, that would certainly end up in a delicious result!
"Hogwarts has been..." Ying paused to take a sigh, thinking about the best way to reply to that last question Kiana has made, "I think...a mix of both?" She asked not feeling one hundred percent sure about how she felt about it. "It was a big change for me you know? A magical school, no longer being under my parents' over-protection...but still having to show dedication to my duties and that I'm still up to their expectations..." Ying started to tell, but then realized she was probably talking to much and was afraid to become boring, so decided to ask Kiana another question, "How about you? What house are you in?"

Kiana continued to deal with the chicken, getting her fingers slimy and slick with grease (and probably E-coli, who knows what's on the surface of raw meat).
"I don't have a preference when it comes to chopping garlic, but it would be nice if you could mince them. It's easier to deal with small pieces," Kiana replied, groping through the depths of her bag for more ingredients. What was the next step? She stared blankly at her list of ingredients, lost in her thoughts.
Right! Searing!
She prepped the saucepan, seasoning it generously with olive oil. Of course, she wouldn't need much. The grease from the chicken would surely give the meat flavor, right? She placed one piece of chicken on the pan and took a small step back as little pearls of oil flew into the air. Since she was a child, Kiana had always been afraid of hot oil, even the tiniest specks. Sometimes she'd end up cooking with enormous lab safety goggles and her father would stare in awe and amusement.
"I'm in Slytherin - you probably can't tell, I left my robe in the dorm rooms. Honestly, Hogwarts has been....interesting. For me, at least. I'm not one to make friends easily but I did come across a nice girl named Alana - maybe you know her - and she helped me out a bit. Made me feel more at home. I'm hoping I'll be bale to fit in better and find myself a good clique of friends."
