Featherstone's Desk
Almost invisible from the entrance, hidden in the back of the Hospital Wing, was a cluster of desks belonging to the nurses. The station existed out of ill-fitting tables and chairs. On the desk closest to the entrance and separated from the rest, stood a small nameplate with Emery's name engraved in it. The rest of the desk was neatly organized and cleaned, and only the plate filled with cupcakes or cookies showed that the desk was in active use. Next to the food, there would be a carefully written note saying please take one and an arrow to the plate. Both students and other nurses would be allowed to take one of the freshly baked goods the nurse had made with love.
It was quite usual to see all the desks filled with assistants, as most of the time they were busy taking care of injured students. This was also the case for Nurse Featherstone most of the time. If she wasn't busy healing students, she was organizing the cabinets full of bright, colorful glass bottles or something else. Sometimes they could be found sitting at their desk, enjoying their break or doing paperwork. Whatever she was doing, she would always look out for any student that needed their help, so she could quickly assist them. The extra chair standing next to the desk was an invitation for any student to sit down and share their worries with the young nurse.

Dori hadn't really bonded with a nurse since Nurse Brumby had left. But in his stead he left the healer internship, which had bolstered an aspect of Dori that held tight to their grandmother and mother and their natural healing nature. Dori could only hope that the current Nurse would keep the program going. It was a program that made Dori's healing so efficient that they excelled in duelling in keeping their partners up now.
The young Hufflepuff approached the familiar Hospital Wing with a little metal tin that had a mix of ginseng, lemon balm, and some hibiscus for color and flavor. It was wrapped in floral silk fabric that could be reused later as a bandana or cloth should the nurse feel inclined. Their parents had instilled to never arrive to someone empty handed, and so Dori tried to bring Professor's gifts the first time they visited their office. This one was tucked all the way in the back, but luckily Dori knew their way around and finally saw the desk with Featherstone sitting at it. A small smile lit up their face as they approached.
"Doctor Nurse Miss Featherstone Sir? My name is Dorion Anderson, I use they/them pronouns. I'm a fourth year Hufflepuff, and a healing intern for the past two nurses. I wanted to welcome you to Hogwarts." Dori extended the carefully wrapped tin to her before taking a seat and happily taking one of the cookies. "I was wondering if you planned on keeping the internship around? I really enjoy it. A lot of us do. My healing has improved so much since it started." Dori didn't know if it was required for the Nurse to keep this program since it was new, but there was a part of them that kind of hoped that it was a requirement.

The soft chatter of people, the turning of pages, and the footsteps from the busy assistants were nothing but background noise to Emery as their eyes were focused on the book on their lap. The words became sentences, informing her about a rare illness she knew very little about. That they had gotten the job was no reason to slack off and give up on their hard work. The fear of getting replaced by an older, more experienced person hadn't left their mind once since they had arrived at the school. It was weird to have a whole team of nurses that followed her lead, as not so long ago she had been one of them.
Completely submerged in their book, the nurse hadn't noticed the approaching student. Emery's heart made a little jumpscare as they heard a voice close greet them, at least they assumed "Doctor Nurse Miss Featherstone Sir" was used to address them. Instantly, their head turned to the speaker, a glimpse of panic in her eyes when she didn't recognize the student. The small smile on the child's face made Emery a bit less nervous, however, it was clear she was still uncomfortable with the new interaction. Her shoulders tensed up and she nervously fidgeted with her hands.
"Ye-yeah?" she stammered in reply. It didn't seem like the student needed any encouragement to talk, something Featherstone admired and feared at the same time. As she was trying to make sense of all that she had just been told, Dorion already handed them something, which they took hesitantly. Dorion Anderson, fourth year, Hufflepuff? Healing intern, they/them, and welcoming. Once the nurse had finally gotten a good idea of what was going on, the Hufflepuff had already sat down and taken one of the chocolate chip cookies.
"It's nice to meet you," she said as she gave the student a small nod. Not knowing what else to say, Emery studied the floral pattern on the fabric that was given to them. Just like most of the time, the other did the talking and she could just listen. A vague glimpse of a smile could be seen on her face as the student shared their experience with the internship. They seemed really passionate about it and Emery recognized a bit of her younger self in them. Healing and helping others had always been their passion and they loved to see it back in others.
"Uhm, yes," they spoke softly. "I do want to continue the internship. If there are enough students who want it." Quite honestly, she didn't expect many students would want to spend their precious time learning from her. On top of that, the idea of being responsible for teaching a big group of students was a bit frightening. What if she said or did something stupid and they all would laugh at her? They quickly shook the thought and focused back on the student who was sitting across from them and whatever it was they had given her.

This nurse seemed less- carefree. Not strict. But certainly more stiff. Then again they did just begin working here so maybe she was still getting the lay of the land. Dori remembered what it was like to first be at Hogwarts, bewildered and amazed by everything about it. Now it was a second home to them, a natural place for them to be for most of the year. Sometimes it felt more like home than Willen, England did. As they watched them study the bandana their eyes alighted, completely forgetting to tell her what was within the delicately wrapped package.
"Oh! Sorry, in there is a tea mix. Ginseng, lemon balm, and hibiscus. My mom and I make our own tea blends together, and I thought this would be a nice one. Ginseng can help reduce fatigue, and helps the immune system, honestly it's good just overall. Lemon balm is kind of calming and helps to decrease anxiety. I really like lemon balm because I-" They bit their tongue, not really wanting to reveal their own anxiety condition. "It just tastes nice. Um, and hibiscus honestly just tastes good and has a pretty color. I hope you like it, and if you don't like tea um you can like- boil the herbs in water and sort of make a nice steam situation." They forgot that some people didn't like tea, but it had always gone over well so far so the worry died quickly.
"A lot of us enjoy it. Honestly- with everything that happens here it can kind of be reassuring that I have extra training so I can help my friends. There was one time a bunch of mosps attacked us at a ball and I got stung really bad. Another time my common room exploded and a bunch of us ended up in the basement and another student sealed the floor above us by accident and I set my future ex-boyfriend on fire so. But now I'm more equipped to help, you know?" They shrugged taking a bite out of the cookie. "These are really good! Did you make them yourself?" A smile lit up their face as if they didn't just dump a bunch of information on the nurse that was ultimately unneeded.

As her eyes inspected the gift, Dorion explained what it was, something she appreciated a lot since she wasn't familiar with the combination. Drinking unknown substances was never a good idea, no matter how kind the person who gave it to you seemed to be. Making tea blends with a parent sounded lovely and Emery wished that was something they did with their mother. Just the two of them, the thought popped up in her mind as the student continued talking.
Only when they mentioned the decrease in anxiety, the nurse looked up from the gift. Lemon balm sounded like an almost perfect fit for her. The little hesitation in Dorion's sentence did not go unnoticed by Emery, who made a mental note but choose not to comment on it. The only reactions that could be seen were a slightly lifted eyebrow and a tilted head. "It sounds lovely," they replied once they were sure the student was done speaking. "Thank you."
A lot of us enjoy it. A little wave of panic hit the new nurse. How many students were a lot? The idea of teaching students was already overwhelming, let alone a lot of them. Maybe they weren't fit to continue the internship and they should just drop it. Of course, they knew how chaotic life at Hogwarts could be, and the stories, from which some might have been exaggerated, had also reached them. But still, the things Dorion was talking about so casually shocked her. From what they gathered, it was definitely a good thing that the internship had been there to teach the young students. There was no way she could stop the program now. Even if they wouldn't be able to provide an amazing internship, anything was better than nothing.
The nurse took a lot of pride in her baking skill, so when she was really happy with the compliment given by the student. "I did. I am glad you like it," they said, still trying to process the information that was dumped on them a second before. "I am sorry," they spoke up confused, "but you set your boyfriend on fire?" Honestly, that wasn't even the most shocking thing of what Dorion had just told her, but it was the thing that made the least sense to Emery. She had never been in a relationship but she was pretty sure you weren't supposed to set your partner on fire.

Dori quickly shook their head, Emery clearly not having the facts straight. "No, no. Future ex-boyfriend." They paused, like the title was obvious. "He wasn't my boyfriend at the time but later we started dating and then we broke up because boys are stinky and gross. Well- not Elsi, he's a Gryffindor and my best friend. He's different than other boys." Dori nodded, feeling like they adequately summed that up. "Anyway, I won't take up too much of your time. I just like to meet with the new nurses. I hope you stick around, you seem cool." Seriously, the turnover at this school was awful.
Dori hopped up off their chair and with a hand held out for a handshake, "It's been lovely meeting you Doctor Nurse Miss Featherstone Sir. Trust me, you'll be seeing a lot of me. Not in a- I'm injured way. In a- I'm here to work way which is much different." If no handshake came they would put it down without a second thought and bounce away. If the handshake was accepted they would firmly shake it before bouncing away. Saying hi to anybody that they recognized within the hospital wing. They liked this one. They just hopped that they actually lasted unlike the other ones.Dorion has left the thread.

As if the nurse wasn't confused enough, the student shook their head and corrected her. Future ex-boyfriend? Emery had never heard the term before and it was safe to say, it confused them even more. Wasn't it just the kid's ex? When Dorion paused, she gave them an awkward nod, acting like she understood it. Luckily, the student was really talkative and explained the term further. After the new addition, the nurse finally understood it. Future ex-boyfriend was really the only way to explain that situation. It was a very creative solution, something Emery appreciated.
After Dorion's comment about boys being stinky and gross, the seer couldn't help but wonder why this Elsi was excluded from this. It seemed like the student had made up their mind about all boys, so Elsi must be a really special kid. It wasn't her place to poke around in students' business, so she let the topic go. Maybe she would meet this Elsi kid one day.
A slight blush, accompanied by a small smile, appeared on her face after Dorion said she seemed cool. The young nurse wasn't used to being called cool, or compliments in general. Not knowing how to take a compliment, they looked away shyly. When they looked up again, there was a hand reaching out for a handshake. The positive energy of this kid made it impossible for her not to take a liking to them. "It was nice to meet you too," Emery replied as they shook the hand. Unlike the handshake of the young student, hers wasn't firm at all. With a small smile, she watched the student bounce away. Maybe this wouldn't be too bad after all.

September, is the time when Autumn began to decorate all places in Scotland and Hogwarts is no exception. A second-year boy with pale skin was seen walking down the corridor with his enchanted satchel slung across his torso. He was still wearing his black robe that seemed to match the color of his hair and dark irises. The boy had just finished his afternoon class and had nothing to do after that. Going back to the dorm would be very boring but he also didn't know where to go until he saw the door of Hospital Wing. He seldom visited this place as his first year was very peaceful. Then, he decided to enter the place.
The first thing he saw was beds lining either side of the room, facing each other. He could see some students were sleeping. "I think I should leave now," he thought until he saw a flier about Healer Internship. His eyes looked at the flier for some moments. The flier somewhat interested him. wizarding medicine was a bit different from the muggles. What he learnt from spending a year in wizarding World was almost every muggle's diseases and illness could be cured easily by magic. This suddenly made him think again about whether he was still interested in the field of medicine and still desired to pursue his dream of becoming a doctor, perhaps in the wizarding world.
"Every wizards are very resourceful. There's a very small chance they need someone to do healing magic as they would do it for themselves. What wizards can not do," he thought. The boy was still standing, looking at the flier on the wall. His mind wandered like a traveler who had lost their way.
