Their Grandmother is a pure-blood supremacist, and after the Christmas of their first year, Hel Beithir discoverers her only Grandchild has been placed in Slytherin and, through a series of letters tries to convert Qrow into having the same ideals as her. To my, dear grandchild,
I find myself filled with pride at the prospect of your being placed in the noble house of Slytherin, much like your family before you.
I would first like to apologise for my lack of involvement in your life thus far, but I find that a family is stronger together, and it is for that reason that I am sending you this letter.
I ask that you not blame my absence on your father. He is a strong-willed and stubborn man, a trait that he inherited from myself and is likely to blame for our delicate relationship now; however, I do not wish for my physical absence from your life to stop us from having a relationship of our own.
You will find that you will meet some of the most cunning, witty, and ambitious spirits within the house of Slytherin, meeting those that, like yourself, want to achieve the most desperate of dreams. With those that you will befriend in your new house, you will likely carry a bond that will be cherished far beyond your time at Hogwarts.
I hope that my letter has found you well, my sweet little viper, and if you have any concerns or queries during your time in your new home, do not hesitate to send me an owl of your own.

My dear little viper, I understand your hardships.
Much like you, in my youth, I found it difficult to find like-minded people for myself. However, do not let this deter you. Hogwarts is a large school full of students; the only thing you need to do is look in the right places.
Might I suggest interacting with some of your housemates? Those children who, like yourself, are from the older pure-blood families are often placed in the noble house of Salazar Slytherin, and you may find that you have much in common with them. I also suggest interacting with some of the Ravenclaw students; they are great if you are in need of intellectually stimulating conversation.
In your previous letter, you mentioned your distaste for the house of lions. From experience, I found the Gryffindor students to be loud, obnoxious, and ignorant at best. You are right to have your concerns, though I have the same fear that there is not much that can be done other than standing your ground.
Stay strong and keep your head up, my little basilisk.

My dearest Qrow,
Firstly, I would like to say; Happy birthday. I do hope that you put my gift to good use.
Secondly, I find the contents of your previous letter concerning.
Your mentions of becoming well acquainted with a young half-blood on the train do not sit well with me. I fear the consequences of my own absence during your upbringing are finally catching up to us.
The Beithir family is well known for their pure blood, something that we see as incredibly important. I too struggled with the misinformation surrounding the importance of blood purity; however, without us noble families that ignore the impact of muggles on the wizarding world, not only would all of our traditions be lost, but so would our world itself.
Muggle-borns, or their proper name, mud-bloods, are slowly destroying the beauty of the wizarding world, diluting our magic, and replacing our traditions.
I hope that you, my sweet little basilisk, will understand all of this and act accordingly. You are this family's hope and joy. Please have an enjoyable Birthday.

Dear Qrow,
Your previous letter mentioned how you had celebrated your birthday; whilst I am happy that you had a good day, I fear those that you spent it with do not have your best interest at heart.
While it is important to know that families are stronger together, sometimes it is important to prune the decaying branches from the tree. The Willow family does not follow the same ideals as you and me; they believe that mud-bloods and half-breeds should be given the same rights as the most noble of pure-blooded families.
This is not right; they are blood-traitors.
Your father's infatuation with your mother was one of the many things we disagreed upon in his youth, and whilst I am happy to have such blessings as yourself from their partnership, I do not think the ideals in which your mother's family shares are of importance to you.
Soon enough, it will be of no matter; your mother's sickness is simply karma for her own treachery and the beliefs of her family and herself will be of no importance.

My mother is a brilliant woman, and she is leagues kinder than you. Her sickness is not karma for her ‘treachery’ and I do not understand your, nor anybody else's, concerns on the likes of blood purity.
My best friend is a half-blood and they are one of the most amazing people I know; you have no right to speak of any of my loved ones and I implore you to stop writing to me.
My father has been sent a copy of each of your previous letters and I am happy to say that this will be my last reply to you.
