Finished Music is a friend PV EmmaLee LeDames

EmmaLee beamed as she grabbed her cello from her dorm room and headed for the rehearsal room. She had been practicing for an hour or two most days and was thoroughly enjoying her progress.

Partially because she knew a lot about French musicians and composers and not a lot about British composers, it took her a while to realize that the portraits lining the walls of the extra opulent room were of famous witches and wizards who either contributed greatly to music or who were know for admiring music and contributing to it monetarily. The was a particular portrait who would tell her if she was doing well or poorly and would gently correct her playing if she was struggling.

As she approached the rehearsal room, she heard the beautiful sound of someone playing guitar and raised a pale eyebrow. There was almost never anyone here at this time, so it was odd for her to hear any music. Hopefully, the person on the other side of the door was either almost done or wouldn't mind a little company while they played.

EmmaLee hefted her midnight blue cello case in one and and gingerly pushed the heavy oak door open with the other and her shoulder. She stepped into the room and, as quietly as possible, closed the door behind her. After she turned back around, she looked up and watched the brown haired girl play, enjoying the music quietly for a moment before speaking up.

"'Allo, excuse me." She called, clearing her throat and giving the other girl a little wave, hoping she had been loud enough for her to hear.

Linda was still in her thoughts playing one of her favorite melodies when she heard a girl's voice coming from the door. It was a girl who was speaking a little bit with French accent. They didn't meet before or at least Linda thought so. "Hi. I am sorry I didn't hear you coming."

She looked at the girl, she had cello with her. Perhaps she was going to practice as well, well, maybe she didn't mind playing something together. "I see you have cello. I never met someone who would play some musical instrument here before." She didn't know what to say else as she was still talking while continuing playing, just made it more quiet so it didn't bother talking. She had just little more time before she would finish, so she hoped this girl won't mind her.

"My name is Linda Ramirez. What is your name? I am sorry I need some more time before I finish. If you want, you can listen. But I got sudden idea. Maybe you don't mind us trying to play something together? I guess guitar with cello should be great together."

It might be really weird. They just met and she never heard this girl's playing but already offered her to try to play together. But on the other hand, why not. She'll either finish playing and go or will try to play with her. It was worth trying.

EmmaLee placed her case on the floor next to her, not yet stepping further into the room, and clasped her hands behind her back sheepishly. "Ah, not a worry." She said with a friendly smile. "I tried to come in quite quietly as I heard you playing as I approached the door." She continued, gesturing to the door. She nodded as Linda mentioned EmmaLee's cello and introduced herself.

"It is nice to meet you, Linda." She gave another little wave. "I'm EmmaLee Le Dames. There are quite a few people at Hogwarts who play instruments and your playing is very lovely. I've been playing cello since I was 5." She said with a wide smile, picking up the case again and finally stepping a little further into the room as Linda suggested that they play together.

"I think playing together sounds like a wonderful idea." She said, placing her cello near Linda, but not in her way, and moving to the side of the room to retrieve an ornate wooden stool. "Although, I don't do a lot of improvisation and I've never played with a guitar before, so I might not be too good at first." Her bright blue eyes were twinkling at the excitement of meeting a new music friend and doing something new to her together. She was the sort of girl who loved to try new things and experience new places, no matter how bad she may be at them. She placed the stool on one side of her midnight blue cello case and proceeded to pull out a beautiful blue instrument that have splashes of blue and white that looked like waves crashing across rocks.

"Ah I see. But I think even if you would make noise I wouldn't hear you. Usually I don't notice anything around me while I'm playing." Linda smiled. This girl was really nice, trying to be quiet to just let Linda keep playing. Maybe they could have really nice friendship. Linda always was focusing and completely disappearing in music that she played.

"Nice to meet you too, EmmaLee. Since 5? That's cool. I'm playing guitar since 7." EmmaLee. Nice name but a bit hard. She was right. Not much students were playing musical instrument here, maybe that was the reason Linda wanted to be friends so much when she met one? Anyway they could become long term friends and play sometimes. Maybe they have something else in common so they could do something else together? She will ask it later.

"I didn't try to play with cello before either, but you know, either way it's gonna be great experience to try to do it." Linda smiled and laughed a little. It was really exciting to try this. Playing with cello something, perhaps she could try piano later, if EmmaLee wouldn't mind. "Could you play something so I could listen and try to know what I can play and how loud it should be?" This was something really important in playing with another instrument as duo. To not make one sound louder than another one, so both will be heard.

EmmaLee nodded at Linda's comments, smiling widely as she settled down on the stool and proceeded through making sure her cello was tuned properly and ticking through a few beginning finger exercises. As she moved through these beginning motions, she thought about what song might be good to play with a guitar. She had never really done a lot of improvisation before, so she wasn't very comfortable just playing anything. She had become very skilled at adapting songs to play on the cello, though, and thought it would be fairly easy for a player like Linda to pick up whatever she was playing a play along.

As she thought, EmmaLee moved to pull her snowy hair into a high pony tail to keep it out of the way as she played and as she tied it off, she settled on Hallelujah. It was a fairly simple song to play that she knew well and hopefully Linda knew as well. If not, again, Linda seemed like the kind of player to pick it up quickly.

The paler girl took the cello's bow in her lithe fingers and started the song at a medium volume, not wanting to over take Linda's guitar when she started to play as well. EmmaLee closed her eyes lightly in concentration, leaning into the song and swaying a little as she played, letting her body almost dance to the music. EmmaLee loved music so much. Her cello really was like an extension of her soul. She wondered for a brief moment if Linda felt the same way, or if anyone else felt the same way.

EmmaLee leaned in further and continued to sway to the music, smiling serenely as she played and Linda joined in, bringing the song to new beauty. Everything was always better with another person. The two instruments played well together, which both did and did not surprise the girl. Music was one of so many things that brought people closer together and EmmaLee felt that it was hard to find instruments that did not go well together when the right song was played. Just showing up, and sitting down, and playing together with someone like this made EmmaLee feel like people could be that way, too. They could all get along if they just agreed on one thing, but she was getting a little too existential here. She grinned widely, chuckling a little at her own inner thoughts, as the two girls ended the song and Linda spoke.

"That was very awesome!" EmmaLee exclaimed, resting her bow hand on her knee. She was really enjoying Linda as a person and as a practice partner. "I can play piano a bit and sing well, but that's about all. What else can you play?" She answered excitedly, blue eyes twinkling at this new found musical friendship. "I would love to be very good friends. Maybe we can practice together often. Sometimes the repetition of only playing by oneself can get really boring." She offered with a wide grin. It would be really nice if they had some other common interests, too.

"What else do you like to do for fun?" She asked, twirling her bow between her fingertips as she talked with her new friend.

I can play piano and sing as well. I am learning harp though. Guess next year I'll be great with it. Linda smiled. They had a lot of different possibilities of what exactly to practice if they were going to practice together.

Sure, we can practice together from time to time. When would you like to meet next time? It was a really good idea. Although she enjoyed practicing alone and never felt bored, but to practice it with someone would be more fun.

Wizarding photography, reading, swimming and drawing. What about you? Now Linda was interested if they had something else in common. Something they could do else except music.

She now noticed that she was feeling hungry. It was time to go to eat and she was thinking for a second how to say it to not be rude. After some thinking she finally found a way. Are you hungry? It was really nice to play with you, but I feel so hungry now. I'm going to get some food, do you want to join?

She was going to eat in her room as she had some pastry from her parents and her brother. It was going to be great way to continue this day. She took her guitar and started to go out of the Rehearsal room.

EmmaLee smiled broadly as her new friend spoke of her interests. "Oh," EmmaLee cooed, "the harp sounds lovely. I am sure someone as clearly dedicated as you will pick it up quickly." She said with a nod as she began to pack up her own instrument.

"I try to practice in here right after class on Mondays and Fridays at the very least. I try to do it more, though. You could join me then, or just send me a quick note whenever you feel like having a playing partner." EmmaLee suggested with a wide smile as she carefully put her away her bow and clicked her cello case closed. "I'm a bit rusty on the piano, but we could practice a few duets together and warm me up again." She continued with a small giggle as she started to follow Linda our of the rehearsal room.

"As far as other interests, I like reading and swimming as well. I especially like swimming in the ocean. I also like cooking and baking and I have been meaning to try my hand at drawing and maybe painting. I admittedly like writing and telling stories more, though." She said, then caught herself rambling and clamped her mouth closed before nodding a bit at the mention of being hungry.

"Now that you mention it, it is about time to eat isn't it?" She commented, looking around at the clock on the wall as she pushed the door open and held it for Linda to walk through. "I would love to join you for some food if it isn't too much of an intrusion. I brought some fruit and some bread and jam to eat outside after this if you would like to share." She offered, gesturing to her bag as the door closed behind them and the two girls continued down the hallway chattering.
