Despite her inward pleading, he continues on with the monstrous subject, even deducing that it isn't the blood topic that's made her so squeamish. It frightens her a little, when he seems to be able to look right through her. She doesn't want Lucas Chapman, of all people, to catch on to her greatest fears.

Thankfully, the conversation shifts to extracurriculars, which, while not exactly pleasant, Dora would rather speak about.

"Do you really study that much? You could find the time easy enough, I'm sure. Your grades are probably fine, I doubt you need to study this much." Lucas says, looking confused. It rubs her the wrong way, though she's not sure she can point out why. Is it the implication that Lucas doesn't have to care about his studies as much as Dora? Or, worse yet, he already gets perfect grades and doesn't have to put in the same amount of effort because he's a real pure-blood. Again, Dora's afraid he can see right through her.

Distracted, she doesn't pay too much attention to his answer about his father. Her mind is abuzz thinking of her grandmother's letters, her expectations. 'Curses are a part of life', she wrote, and Dora could barely get through the first page. And Lucas is here and he doesn't get scared of curses or dhampirs or dueling like she does.

"What about your family, how are they? I don't think I've spoke to any of them much except from Bradley." Dora snaps out of her thoughts, a little embarrassed at her derailed train of thought. "Oh, um, they're fine. Bradley's excited to come to Hogwarts next year." She replies quietly, "My grandparents and uncle are well. They've been busy." Uncle Harris is always busy with the family business, and Dora's grandmother has a lot on her plate as well with social affairs. Dora wonders if either of them will take a spring break, or if she'll just go back to a manor in April where no one has need of her.
