Just another lonely day... Or is it?
Mellani entered the library, tired and in need of books. She looked at the librarian for a moment and smiled a small, kind smile at her, then started roaming around the library, finding the mystery section. Mellani started going through all the titles and finally choosing 'One of us is Lying' by Karen M. McManus.
Mystery books had always intrigued Mellani. Sometimes, when she was young and didn't know about herself being a witch, she often wished she would be a detective someday or at least be a part of a major mystery. Now, she found the idea kinda cringe and maybe even impossible, now that she was in the world of magic.
Mellani read through a few pages of the book, liking it very much. She kept reading. She sighed, feeling a bit lonely. Maybe if she socialized more... But well, she knew she couldn't. So why despair over it? Maybe because she missed her friends back in the muggle world and really wished she had some in the wizard world. She held her face in her hands, trying not to think much about it. She didn't really want to cry in a place where others might enter and see her. Well, maybe she should go to her dormitory and there, she would get more privacy. But no, she wanted to find out what happens in the end of the mystery. So she breathed in and continued reading.

Just another lonely day... Or is it?
Avhira was also reading, somewhat nearby. She looked up, noticing the other student, and the mystery book she was reading.
"Hey! sorry to interrupt, but that book looks so interesting! is is mystery? I love mystery books!"
Avhira exclaimed. she then realized what she had done, and being the anxiety filled person that she was, she immediately regretted it.
"Sorry, I shouldn't have said anything. I've forgotten how to socialize, it seems." She giggled nervously. "Don't feel pressured to answer, if you don't want to."
She waited for half a second, then added. "You look like someone who would enjoy my Book Appreciation Club. Where we just sit, and read, without talking, while still making friends. And you can suggest books by writing them on a paper on the wall."
Avhira groaned internally again, realizing she just kept talking. "I am so, so sorry. I guess i just really don't know when to stop, do I?"
Avhira sat back in her chair, shaking her head. "I apologize. i did it again.."
Avhira seemed really, really bad at socializing. she was now wondering how she managed to have so many friends back in london. It really was a wonder that she had any social life at all..

Mellani gave the girl a little smile. She seemed to be in need for friends too! And she might be a little too social, the complete opposite of Mellani, but she seemed like a good person. And... on the positive side, she had invited Mellani to a Book Appreciation Club! What could be better than that?
"Yep! It's a mystery book!" replied Mellani. "And... it's fine, I'm not great at socializing either. Also I would love to join your club! It sounds like my kind of place!" Mellani gave another smile to her, wondering if they could be friends after all. She sighed and looked back at the book she was reading.
She was definitely in need of friends. And this girl had approached her. Besides, she seemed to be very anxious and self conscious, just like Mellani. Mellani didn't really know what to say next. So she just waited for the other girl to speak, different thoughts flooding her brain. Could she finally have a friend? Or was she meant to be lonely in this world? She hadn't spoken to her parents or her friends back at home since she had entered Hogwarts. And she missed them. A lot.

Avhira smiled, but didn't want to interrupt the other person's reading again, so she also just went back to reading.
Did that count as a friend? Did she finally do it? She had talked to someone, and they didn't hate her for it, so... Maybe? Or maybe she was just reading too far into things? She could figure it out. She was fine.
She smiled, looking up at the other student. "My name is Avhira, by the way. I like mystery and horror books the most, and I always love listening to music and eating while I read. I'm a first year ravenclaw. What about you?" Avhira asked. She was still reading as she said this, occasionally stopping to write something on a parchment. But she was listening, and wouldn't miss what the other student said.
She was still worried though. She hated interrupting people while they were busy, especially while they were reading. She also hated misgendering people, so she added "I'm also non-binary, my preferred pronouns are she/her."
She then continued waiting for an answer. She wasn't expecting one though, as she thought she had irritated the other student. If she got an answer, she'd know she had a friend.

Mellani glanced at the other girl when she was reading and noticed that she was a Ravenclaw. Someone she had probably seen in some or the other class. Meaning that she was another first year. Probably. Mellani wondered what her name was. Well, speaking of names... She should probably introduce herself too.
And then the girl spoke, saying her name was Avhira. It was almost like she had read her mind! Mellani smiled, realizing that her guess was correct. The girl was a first year Ravenclaw!
"I'm Mellani. I like music and mystery books too! And..." she rethought on whether she should admit that she was a Slytherin. A few people did have negative opinions about that house. But well... if she wanted someone to be her friend, she needed that person to care only about her personality and not judge her on anything else. "...I'm a First Year Slytherin." she admitted.
Then the girl admitted that she was non-binary. Mellani gave her an encouraging smile at that. Non-binary people too could be judged harshly some times... Actually, a lot of times, at least in the Muggle world. But Mellani wouldn't judge others like that. She was known for her kindness and she would live up to her reputation.

Avhira smiled. "A cunning, stop-at-nothing Slytherin? I'm definitely glad I decided to talk to you. We can probably make each other stronger. I think? I'm sorry, I'm really bad at talking... I'm more of a book person." Avhira said, awkwardly.
"Well, anyway, it's very nice to meet you, Mellani! Making friends is hard in new places, I'm glad I noticed your book."
Avhira then raised the book she was reading. "This is a mystery too. It's called 'The Naturals'. I brought it from home. I think you might like the series!"
Avhira adjusted her hair, using a pencil to fasen it into a bun, as it continuously fell into her face as she tried to show you the cover. She smiled sweetly, glad to have finally made a friend. Then she realized that Mellani might not consider her a friend.
"So... Uhm... I'm really bad with people... Are we friends now or...."
She seemed to consider her next words with concentration. "Or just acquaintances? I'd like to consider you a friend, if you'd consider me one."
Avhira made the entire thing sound like a marriage proposal, somehow. She didn't even notice. She really was a strange girl, but she seemed sweet.

Mellani smiled at the other girl. "It's okay! I'm a book person too! I guess we have that in common." she said. Wow, Avhira really had to get a bit less nervous! Although she didn't really know how to tell her that.
"It's nice to meet you too!" she replied. She really was glad to have a new friend from a house other than Slytherin. It felt good. She looked at the book that the other girl was reading. "Oh, I'll check it out when I'm done with this one!" she responded, kindly.
She gave a small laugh at Avhira asking to be friends. Wow, it sounded more like a marriage proposal. And whether or not they were friends seemed like a hard question to answer. Well, she guessed that they were friends. Just not very close although that could change as they came to know each other better, couldn't it? "I'd like to friends with you too!" Mellani said. She didn't sound as sweet as Avhira did but she did sound kind and genuine. She looked at Avhira, wondering what the girl was thinking about her. Probably something along the lines of 'another person who I can talk to about books'. Because that's what pretty much everyone did think about Mellani.

Avhira smiled widely. Finally, she had someone she could talk to, hang out with, and be around. How had she done it? it was a mystery to her. She had absolutely no idea how to make friends, and yet she did it. Now, she could relax a bit. She wouldn't be alone. maybe she could make other friends too. Maybe.
Avhira wrote down the name of the suggested book in a notebook she brought from home. "Thanks for the book suggestion, Mellani! I'm glad to have met you!" She said, before turning back to her book. Was that rude? Should she keep talking? Should she just shut up? She didn't know, so she read.
Did she need other friends? it was right to have other friends, so one didn't get clingy. Right? Avhira was still overthinking everything. She was smart, and she knew that, but she was not street smart. She had no social skills. Was that a problem? She just made a friend, so it wasn't a problem, right? She realized she must look bizarre, like she always did when she was overthinking.
"I should probably go now... I have homework."
Avhira said, standing up and packing up her things.

Mellani smiled back at Avhira. She was glad she had helped someone smile. "I'm glad to meet you too!" she responded to Avhira. She noticed that Avhira had gone back to reading. She glanced at her a bit worriedly. Avhira looked lonely. And she seemed like the kind of person who was scared of talking to others.
Mellani sighed and went back to her book. Would saying that she had to go be rude or hurt the other girl? Maybe. So she continued to read without saying anything and slowly finished the book. The name of the book Avhira had recommended was written by Mellani with a quill on her hand. She wondered if she should search the library for it. No, she should probably read the second book to the book she was reading first.
She looked at Avhira as she got up and packed her things, telling Mellani that she had to catch up with homework. "Alright! Bye. Let's meet again soon!" she said, giving the girl another smile. She had completed all her homework in her free time and wondered what to do. She should probably go to her dormitory and sketch or study or something. Yeah, that sounded like a good idea.
