Akina sighed happily as soon as she saw the library. There were books everywhere! Decorations lined the dark walls, and there were even places to study and sit! It was perfect; quiet, serene, and pretty much empty. The only people here were just reading, nothing loud like the Great Hall. Akina immediately went to the shelves where all the thick books are. "Wow." she whispered, running her fingers along the ancient spines. She carefully pulled the book out of it's place on the shelf and started to read. If this is what Hogwarts would be like, maybe she would be staying here for a while.
After an hour, Akina closed the book and stretched her arms. What a lovely story. she thought. Akina could do this every day! But there was more to Hogwarts then just reading. She sighed and looked around. Since the sky outside was starting to darken, more and more people started to leave. She sighed again. Something felt- off, you could say. She felt- almost lonely. She didn't want to be lonely for a long time here. She wanted to talk to someone. But she never had the energy to say something. Well, I am a first year after all. This should be completely normal.

Come on, come on... she thought as she wandered through the shelves full of books. She did not want to get into trouble for being out past curfew. Sure, there was still some time, but... A good book, that's all I need. Was it really that much to ask? She was beginning to get stressed. She still had around fifteen minutes, but she would need to run down the stairs to the basements and that already took five. Come on, hurry up!
Turning a corner on a shelf, she noticed someone who had not left the library yet. A girl with brown hair and a book in her hands. Mahlioz's eyes lit up at the sight of the book. She was surrounded by them, but happy to see one every single time. But she needed to leave. Curfew was approaching, menacing. Last chance, she told herself. Just once. She walked over to the girl. "Hi... what are you reading?" If it seemed good, she would check out another copy of it, and then skedaddle back to her dorm. With any luck, the girl was finished, and Mahlioz wouldn't even have to look for another copy. But she had to hurry... time was ticking.

Akina glanced up from her book and noticed someone standing by the shelves near her. She just ignored her and continued to read the book.
Soon, the sky started to darken. Akina closed the book with satisfaction. It was a great book, full of facts and important information for the greatest wizards. "Hi...what are you reading?"Akina turned around quickly, surprised that someone was even talking to her. There was a girl standing over her, and she had kind, considerate green eyes.
"Oh, this is Jinxes for the Jinxed," Akina said, turning over the book in her hands so the girl could look.
Nice, you talked to someone without stuttering! Go on... Akina thought. "What house are you in?" Akina casually asked, hoping not to scare the girl off with her uncoolness.
She noticed the sky was almost completely black now, and she wanted to go back to her dormitory to finally take a nap. But on the other hand, she wanted to finally make a new friend here at Hogwarts. Suddenly, Akina thought back to when it was dusk, and the girl had been standing by her the whole time. Akina realized that the girl wanted to have the book. She held out the book to her and waited for her to take it.

The girl asked her what house she was in, to which Mahlioz raised an eyebrow. That wasn't usually the first question in a conversation. She was more accustomed to "what's your name?" or "I'm ___, who are you?" But she'd answer the question nonetheless, even if it was quite obvious from her black, green and silver robes which she hadn't changed out of yet. "Slytherin," she said. "I take it you're a Gryffindor?" she asked, gesturing to the girl's uniform.
It seemed the supposedly Gryffindor girl had realized Mahlioz wanted the book, because she handed it to her. "Oh - thank you," she said with a relieved smile. "Are you sure? Were you done reading it?" Listening to her answer, she glanced at her watch. Her heartbeat quickened. "I should really be going, curfew is too soon for comfort."
She was about to leave when she paused, looking at the girl. She'd honestly seemed sad when Mahlioz had arrived, asking about the book. And lonely. A sentiment Mahlioz understood all too well. Right now, they both had to get to their dorms. But... Mahlioz didn't want to abandon this girl like this. She knew the feeling of waiting in a library, pretending books were better company than people. Which was true, of course, but it was a different kind of company. And one needed some of both books' company and humans'. So the young Slytherin made up her mind.
Putting out the hand that wasn't holding a book out to shake, Mahlioz said, "I'm Mahlioz, Mahlioz Evethisawe. Right now I have to get back to my dorm, but would you like to meet up tomorrow morning here before school starts?" She hoped it didn't come off as weird or pitying. She just wanted to help a little.

The girl stared at Akina thoughtfully. After some awkward silence, she finally said, "Slytherin, I take it you're a Gryffindor?" Akina nodded silently. She was cursing at herself inwardly for asking such a question when it was obvious she was wearing green and black robes, as Akina was wearing red and gold. "Oh - thank you. Are you sure? Were you done reading it?" the girl said when she noticed Akina was holding the book out to her.
Akina nodded again, and she watched as the girl stole a glance at her watch. It was almost curfew! "I should really be going, curfew is too soon for comfort," the girl said. The girl seemed to be almost the kind rule follower in her house. Akina shook the thought off. That was kind of rude, Akina scolded herself The sorting hat placed her in Slytherin for a reason.
The girl's voice jolted her back from her thoughts. "I'm Mahlioz, Mahlioz Evethisawe. Right now I have to get back to my dorm, but would you like to meet up tomorrow morning here before school starts?" Mahlioz asked.
Akina smiled gratefully. She had sensed that Mahlioz had realized that she was sort of, almost lonely. "Okay. I'm Akina Briarwood, nice to meet you." Mahlioz was a nice girl, and Akina was lucky that Mahlioz was the one to try to start a friendship. Not to mention she also had a nice name. "I might be late though, I planned to finish the last two chapters of a book tomorrow morning."

It wasn't often she spoke so freely, she thought as she raced down to the Slytherin common room. Usually she stuttered and shyed away from people. But she'd needed a book, and the fact that this new girl was as introverted as her - maybe even more - helped her feel a little less timid. As she finally made it back to her dorm, she found she was looking forward to the next morning.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mahlioz was up at six thirty, finished breakfast by seven, and out of the common room a half hour later (yes, with two books in hand, just in case). Arriving in the library, she sat down in an armchair near the entrance so that Akina could see her when she came in. Then she opened her book and began to read, waiting for the other girl to arrive. What they would talk about, she wasn't sure. She had a feeling she'd be doing most of the talking, which was not something she was used to. But that was okay. She understood. ...Maybe they'd talk about books, since they both seemed to love them so much. That would be fun. She couldn't wait for Akina to get here.

Alexander stepped into his favorite place in the entire Hogwarts - Library! He was amazed by the height and width of it, as he has never seen such an enormous library before and was astonished by the variations of books, how some of them very flying or getting into shelves just by themselves. He also saw the forbidden section and as an ambitious kid with the huge interest of dark magic, he heard his ego was telling him that he had to get in there somehow someday.
''I hope books are as good here as the entire library seems like!'' - Thought Alexander to himself.
After exploring many books, he found one of the most interesting ones he could take from the section that was not forbidden. He could be happy with it (for now). The book was obviously about prominent and most powerful witches and wizards in the history of magic and what made them special, how they became so powerful and what made them to decide their paths. Alexander hoped that one day he would have the honor and privilege that his name to be written in a similar book one day, as he could not wait to start and finish Hogwarts - place that disappointed him and made him irritated by placing him into Gryffindor - club which he hated.

Akina watched as Mahlioz put the book in her bag. Through a small rip in the corner, she could see many more books peeking out. Akina took this as another similarity they both had. "Don't worry about it, take your time. I definitely understand being late because you're reading a book. I'll probably be doing the same, but at the library. See you tomorrow!" Mahlioz was saying, and she ran away, waving Akina waved back and left the library. She went up the stairs to her common room and pulled out her book and began to read.

Akina stretched her arms and checked the clock beside her. It read 6:15 AM, way earlier than her average wake up time. "Shoot, why did I wake up so early!" Akina muttered to herself. She groggily forced herself out of bed and got dressed. She manuevered her way through the yawning Gryffindor girls and sat down in one of the comfortable red chairs. Some time later, she checked the time, and it was 6:57, almost time for breakfast. She ate, and ran to the library with a book in her hand. Near the entrance, another Gryffindor first year was standing there. He didn't seem to notice her, and he was just staring at a book in his hands. So she decided to leave him alone. "Hey Mahlioz!" Akina waved at her friend, grinning.

Alexander woke up early in the morning and rushed himself to his favorite place - library. As usual, the place was really quiet which was giving him the comfort to read without being bothered by any distractions. At least he thought so.
As he was reading the book about dark magic he could hear some first-year girl calling for someone, though he knew that it was not in his direction. He kept reading therefore. Or at least he tried.
He noticed that his glasses were a bit blurry, so he decided to wipe it on his cloak. As soon as he took his glasses off, he became blind, lost his vision and could not see anything, as if he had his eyes completely closed. Though it was no novelty, as he has been used to this for couple of years already ever since the cursed book cursed him with blindness.
Eventually, he wiped his glasses and put them back on and his vision was back again as well. He kept reading, being lonely and unbothered, he could only hear some voices in the library by some other first-years though not a single one of them talking to him. He was used to it though... As everyone would always think that he was eccentric and strange and who was always giving everyone a vibe that he wished not to be bothered.
P.S. @Akina Briarwood, thank you for welcoming me! I will be glad to become your friend, as we are both first years and Gryffindor students.

"So... what class do you have first today?" she asked. Maybe that would start something. Otherwise she could always ask about hobbies or what the girl liked to do with her free time. Once Akina had answered, Mahlioz said, "I have Herbology. I don't really like it very much, because I do not have a green thumb, and the plants don't like me at all. But it's okay, I'll get through it, because I have Transfiguration right after that and I love Transfiguration. What's your favorite class so far? And your favorite teacher?" Perhaps she was rambling too much, or asking too many questions, but at least the conversation was going somewhere. And besides, knowing what classes and people someone liked was like knowing their hobbies. It could say a lot about a person.
