Planting Roots
Beatrice could usually be found in the greenhouses during lunch breaks and after classes before dinner. There was just something about being amongst the dirt and foliage that soothed her soul. It also brought her closer to home in a way, memories of playing in the farms fields and tending to the vegetable garden with her Nan always playing through her mind when she was in the great glass buildings.

Today the young girl had decided sticking her hands in some dirt was much needed. She'd been thinking about her friends and family lately and a bout of homesickness had enveloped over her in the last few days, hanging like a great black storm cloud that wouldn't go away. The Valentine's Day event just a few days ago hadn't helped either. She still had all her letters to give away from said event, but she hadn't seen any of her friends yet. It was like trying to catch smoke everytime she saw them. The letters were currently in her satchel, which was crumpled on the floor near the door. The brown leather had streaks of faded dirt, a telling sign that this wasn't the first time it had found its way into that position. Beatrice had hoped to see her friends soon, but classes and timing just hadn't permitted it. Perhaps today, after dinner and getting herself cleaned up she would try and find Monica at least. She'd sent her an owl to meet her here, but Bea was unsure if she'd come.
Gathering a few of the usual gardening supplies, trowel, soil, pot and plant, she began to look at what she could do today. Maybe she'd finally get around to planting that new seedling? Setting everything needed on the bench, she started filling the pot with brown dirt- the new home for her new plant.

- Walking through the halls of Hogwarts always seemed like a chore, and no matter how long Monica had been here, the young Slytherin was not used to the moving staircases, and the amount of them there were....Always up and down... her legs felt like a never ending bowl of jello, stuck in the state of melting. But today, she had a bit of jump in her step. She had received an owl from Bea, her Best friend, requesting a meet up after classes.
Making her way outside, the air nipped at her nose. It was cold, but still rather pleasent out. The sun was beaming, bringing life to the otherwise winter wasteland. Bundling up, Monica made her way out to the Herbology greenhouse. The snow crunching beneath her feet as she marched on.
Finally she had arrived, and could see Bea collecting some gardening tools. Monica smiled, she loved how much Bea loved plants, it was peaceful to hear all about how to care for them, and to process of the growing cycle. Though Monica herself was no gardener, she could still marvel at the knowledge and skill Bea had in the subject.
Entering into the greenhouse, Monica couldn't help but rush over to Bea, wrapping her arms around the Ravenclaw, "BEA!" She shouted as she rushed over, "How is it we live in the same bloody castle, yet hardly ever see each other!?" For the most part Monica loved being a Slytherin, she felt like she truly belonged in the house, but if there was ever any time she dreamed of being in another house, it would be in Ravenclaw... just to be able to see Bea more!
Monica's heart lay heavy in her chest, though seeing Bea brought so much joy, Monica was still lingering in the dread of her newly discovered family history, none of which had been able to be shared with her Ravenclaw friend. It was hard for Monica to open up to people, it felt easier to just hold on to her burdens rather than share them. But the pain grew everyday, to a point where she often found herself fighting back tears in class. Plus if anyone should know about what Monica was going through, it should be her best friend. However Monica was for sure not the type to just blurt out her problems all at once... Bea invited her here, so that was the first priority!
"What are you working on?" Monica asked with great curiosity, leaning over Bea's shoulders to try and see what she was grabbing.

Digging through the dirt and beginning to set up pots for some seeds, daisies which was one of her favourite flowers, she was lost deep in thought as her best friend came through into the greenhouse and slammed into her, wrapping her in a giant hug full of love. Bea laughed at Monica's delight, her own mirroring it. Squealing in happiness, she spun to hug Monica. "I'm so glad you're here. It feels like I haven't seen you in ages!" Which was slightly true. Bea had stayed for Christmas break and Monica had gone home. Classes and whatnot had been happening for a month or so, but truly it felt like she never saw her friend enough. It was hard having their Common Rooms so far away from each other, and sometimes Bea felt like they lived on opposite ends of the earth, rather than a stone castle.
Releasing Monica, she shuffled over so her friend could see the bench. "I'm filling up some pots to plant daisy seeds in. They're on of my favourite flowers." She grabbed another trowel and held it up for Monica. "Want to join me? I have to fill these pots up before putting the seeds in." Grabbing her own trowel, she went about starting the process to show Monica how to fill the seed pots with dirt, create a hole and then place a few seeds in, spread a couple of centimetres apart before covering them. "I feel like we haven't talked in ages. How was your Winter break? Do anything fun?" She grimaced remembering her own. It had been utterly boring, except for meeting one other Ravenclaw. But still, 2 weeks of finding things to do for yourself with no one else around. Boring.

- Giggles echoed in the green house as the two friends shared in equal delight to see each other. Monica was over joyed every time she was able to hang out with Bea, it was always to calm and fun! Hardly ever a dull moment, even if the two simply sat in the same room reading books.
Following Bea's words Monica looked over at the work Bea was doing, gladly taking the trowel handed to her, "I would love to help out! I have never planted plants before! It seems so fun!" Monica said with great enthusiasm. She watched, copying all Bea was doing, making sure she didn't ruin the growing process by planting anything wrong. Soon enough, the question was asked about the Christmas break. Monica paused, staring off into the flower pot.... her Christmas break was unlike anything she could have expected. Learning that she was of a pureblood line. That she was related to Aurelia, that her grandmother was a cast out of a family, and her mother knew, probably, nothing of the Notresvace family. It was still so much for Monica to still wrap her head around.
Blinking out of her trance, Monica put down the trowel, looking up to Bea, "Well you know how I told you about the letter that Victoria sent me about my adoption...There is so much more!" Monica began to explain, "I went with Aurelia to see her grand aunt, and I leaned that we share the same blood line.... and the history of it... but I still don't know a ton about my birth mother... who she is or even where she is...." Monica fiddled with the soil in the pot. "It's weird, I feel like I learned so much about myself over the holidays, and yet I still have more questions then answers."

Bea was glad that Monica was going to help with potting. She worried that her friends would hate gardening, would refuse to get their hands dirty. Bea had never seen anything wrong with it as she'd lived all her life on a goat farm in Scotland. She'd helped her Nan and parents everyday with the goats and chicken and gardening. The green fields and river had been her entire life. Being inside the greenhouse was sort of like coming home for her.
Eyeing Monica's pot so she didn't do anything wrong, like you could when filling a pit with dirt, Bea nodded along to her friend. She could tell that Monica hadn't had a good time. It was chaotic to say the least and Bea felt a wave of sympathy wash over her for her friend. Bea couldn't imagine finding out her parents were not her real parents and not know the rest. To find out you weren't who you thought all along. Her hand shot out to squeeze Monicas, covered in streaks of dirt and Bea hoped the other girl didn't mind. "But everything went well yeah? You found out some useful stuff?" She squeezed her hand even tighter, hoping to relay her love through the minimal touch. "I'm here for ye. You're my best friend Mon - want me to go meet people with you, look for clues, I got you. I'm here for ye." Her face scrunched slightly, a sense of sadness and hope for Monica filling her. She turned back to the pots then, making sure hers was filled with a seed and patted flat again. They'd need to water it soon, and leave it for the Sun.

- A dirt covered hand reached over to Monica, she gazed up at Bea, a sense of calm washing over the Slytherin... the spiral of confusion quieted for this moment.
"I'm here for ye. You're my best friend Mon - want me to go meet people with you, look for clues, I got you. I'm here for ye."
A tear nearly welled in Monica's eyes, she couldn't help but wrap her arms around the Ravenclaw, dirt flaked off her hands, falling onto Bea's clothes, Monica didn't yet realize she was getting dirt everywhere, "Oh Bea! You are the greatest friend I could ever hope for!" She mumbled into the girls shoulder. Pulling away, Monica saw the result of her hug, dirt littered the ground more than before, and there was clumps of dirt all over Bea, "Oh I am so sorry!" Monica was about to wipe off some of the dirt, stopping realizing that it wouldn't help to given the fact her hands were still covered, instead she looked around for a rag, trying to use it to clean off as much of her mess as possible.
She sat back, after doing what she could, watching as Bea went back to her pot of soil, Monica followed suit, "You know," Breaking the silence as the two girls patted dirt into pots, "I was thinking about seeing with Astrid, if she could help me find my birth mother." Her finger started fiddling with the dirt, no longer copying as Bea was doing, but just playing with the clumps of soil, "I'm sort of scared though... what if she doesn't want to meet me?" Picking up small amounts of dirt, before letting gravity take them from Monica's fingers, returning the clumps back to the pot she was working with. Monica repeated this 'raining dirt' action for some time, before realizing she was not only making a mess, but probably not doing what she should be with the soil.

Bea could feel a well of emotion rising up within her at Monicas face. She looked so anguished, so torn with the revalation that had come during the break. Bea felt tremendously guilty for not knowing sooner, and that she couldn't take the pain away from her friend. She smiled at Mons words, her arms tightening around Monica as if she could absorb the hurt and pain away from her friend. "You're my best friend Mon. I'll always help. Anything, just name it."
Pulling away as Monica did, the Ravenclaw felt tears in her eyes, and she let out a watery laugh, "Don't worry about it. Dirt's nothing new!" She gave Mon a blazing smile as she went back to her dirt, head down focused. Patting it down the greenhouse filled with a comfortable silence. Bea didn't mind. It was nice, the two of them working together to create something. Bea would come down to make sure their plants survived. She'd make sure of it.
Raising her head as Monica spoke, Bea smiled gently at her friend. Words of encouragement flowed from Beas lips, "That's a great idea! She'll want you Mon. Anyone would be lucky to have you." Beas lips quirked in smart manner, "You and Kiwi. I mean it Mon."
Dirt patted and seeds planted, Bea looked around for a watering can. She didn't know the Aguamenti spell, and even if she did she didn't want to particularly blast their pots to timbuktu. "Why don't we water the pots and then find a sunny spot for them? Then we can watch them grow!"

- Oh Bea, Monica thought, What an amazing friend! How did I ever get so lucky? Monica smiled back at Bea, thinking over everything, even glancing down at Kiwi. "Honestly I hope so." Her smile slowly fell away, "It's just... I have no idea why she gave me up? Did she not want me? Was there no other choice?" She finished patting down her dirt, moving closer to Bea as she continued, "Also what if she asked my parents not to say anything? I mean... I can't imagine a person gives up a baby because they love them right?" Clearly Monica wasn't thinking straight, she was allowing herself to get consumed by the worst case 'what ifs' rather than just thinking about how her mother probably didn't have a choice, and that giving Monica away gave her the family she has now, and loves.
Monica followed Bea's direction for watering the plants, in all honesty this was super fun! Monica found the activity rather soothing, perhaps it's why she was able to speak about such emotional things in her life, of course one because of Bea, but also just working with dirt, and caring for plants, it was like... healing in some sort of way.
"How much water should we give them?" Monica asked, after a few drops from her pale landed in the dirt. "Also how big can these grow! You think we could fill the green house?" She smiled at the thought of their plants out growing the size of the magical greenhouse.
