Neither of them were doing a great job defending themselves at this point. Even if one of them was innocent, the attempted flirtation, the constant provoking of the other was really speaking for both of them being guilty. And it seemed that they started to get just as tired of it as Opeila did.
So when Pea told her to go ahead, Opeila decided to no longer wait for either of them to talk more nonsense. "You know what, I think I won't." She looked at both of the girls in turns. "At least not the way detentions usually work. Both of you will stay here and work out together how this could have been solved much easier and in a way more peaceful manner. Neither of you will go away before I am happy with your answer."
It was summer camp, Opeila didn't want to think of and set up a proper detention. She wanted to enjoy the sun and maybe spend some time reading, not monitoring two girls for hours. No, she would make this easy for herself, why not? Opeila liked to think of detention that had a learning effect, and she hoped that this would be the case with the two girls. Thinking of peaceful ways to solve a conflict didn't seem like such a bad idea, right?
As this has taken super long, I decided to forgo the usual way of detention
