Finally, a moment away from classes for EmmaLee to explore the school. She had heard a pair of older students in the common room talking about a rehearsal room and today she intended to find it. It would be nice to get an hour or two of cello practice in before dinner and then should could regularly get back into her practice routine.
After her last class she ran down to her dorm room and flung the door open to reveal Minx, her cat, sprawled out on top of her bed. "Bonjour, Minx." Hello, Minx. She said, putting her bag on top of the be-butterflied trunk at the end of her bed. She took off her outer school robe, leaving just her school uniform, and put that on top of her bag as well. She moved over to the corner where a deep, midnight blue cello case was stood, carefully grabbed it by the handle and turned to her furry friend.
"Tu veux venir t'entraîner avec moi?" Do you want to come train with me? She asked Minx, who had moved to curiously watch her girl flit about the room. In answer, Minx stretched, stood up, gracefully hopped off the bed, and trotted over to the still open door as if to say, "Of course. What's taking you so long?"
EmmaLee nodded and the pair headed out the door, softly closing it behind them, through the Hufflepuff common room, and into the school hallways.
EmmaLee had remembered hearing that the rehearsal room was on the fourth floor and so the pair quickly made their way through the maze of hallways and up the active staircases to the appropriate floor. Once there, it was very easy to find the grand door labeled: rehearsal room.
The white haired girl marveled at the splendor of what was merely a rehearsal room. She checked the sign to make sure this was indeed a rehearsal room and not a performance room. Minx, unimpressed as always, trotted over to the largest patch of sunlight on the floor, stretched herself out on her back, and promptly fell into a snooze. EmmaLee chuckled at her feline friend, placed her cello case in the middle of the floor, and went to grab a chair to bring over to her case.
She jumped about a foot in surprise when someone said, "Oh look! A lovely cellist. What do you think she will play for us today?" "Maybe Greensleeves, that's one of my favorites." "Greensleeves is so overrated and overplayed." "You take that back."
The small student whirled around to try and find the source of the voices and could only see the various portraits hanging along the walls of the room. Maybe this was the source. They seemed to clam up when they realized they had startled her.
"Um....I uh I was thinking of something more....modern?" She said, sheepishly, not realizing that she would have an audience to her practice.
"Don't mind them, deary." Said of portrait positioned directly across from the door. "They are just full of hot air and bickering and boredom since the students are only just returning from the summer. Play whatever you would like and I am sure it will be splendid." The woman in the portrait made a sweeping gesture towards EmmaLee's cello. "And if you would like less of an audience, we will happily give you your privacy." The portrait looked sternly at a particular corner of portraits, who nodded politely.
"O-Oh no. It's quite alright. My parents watch me practice all the time." EmmaLee said, pushing a lock of white hair behind her ear. The portrait woman nodded graciously and smiled as EmmaLee picked up the chair and carried it, with some difficulty, over to her case.
She pulled her long white hair into a high pony tail, sat down, and began to pull out her cello. It was a beautiful instrument. Bright blue with splashes of other tones splashing over it like waves of water crashing over rocks.
Reducio

EmmaLee set the instrument up expertly: knowing exactly how long to make the end pin, tuning it quickly with an expert ear, and delicately sweeping the rosin across her bow before she leaned over the instrument, placed the bow on the strings, and began to play.
She started with a few rounds of fingers exercises and beginner songs considering that she was unable to play at all during the month of summer camp, then moved on to the more contemporary song that she had mentioned.
https://youtu.be/8UsbhZPGfGk
As she started, she took a calm, deep breath and began to sing as well. Her voice was a soft soprano that came off like a bell: clear and sweet without her clearer accent when she spoke. Her control over her instrument and her voice were clearly well practiced.
"Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught in a landside, no escape from reality. Open your eyes, look up to the skies and see...." She sang out. Playing out the song for the portraits, herself, and her cat, she got lost in the music, concentrating hard on both the lyrics and the notes.

Any Way The Wind Blows Doesn't Really Matter To Me
Zoltan woke up exhausted from a sleepless night thinking Why do I even try to sleep anymore? He thought. He then gets up and looks outside of his window and notices that the sun is out, and decides to get dressed and get lost in the school again while he has the time to do so. As Zoltan is wandering through the halls of Hogwarts once again getting lost in its massive hallways, a thought suddenly occurred to him. Is there any way for me to be able to listen to music while I am here? Zoltan thought as he remembered his favorite section of a song by System of a Down. Hmm, how did that song go? Meh, maybe I will remember it later, I know the song is called ATWA, and that it stands for Air Trees Water Animals. I have a lot of favorite songs but this one sticks out to me for some reason. A lot was on Zoltan's mind today, music, classes, what rules he was going to be able to break today, if he should even take to the time to think about making any friends, more music. Zoltan then heard someone ask "Are you lost, young man?" Suprised by the sudden voice, he quickly turned around to see who it was, but no one was there. "Hello?" "Right here, on the wall." Zoltan then looked to see a moving talking painting, he was confused. Am I really this blind to miss moving and talking paintings? "I said, are you lost?" "Uh, sorry, uh yeah I guess." "Is there any place you are looking for in particular?" Asked the painting. "Uh, any room that uh, I don't know, plays music?" "There is a rehearsal room four floors upstairs, it may not be the music you want, but that is a place for music." "Uh, okay thanks I guess." "You are very welcome." Zoltan then began his way toward the moving stairways. Okay, that was more uncomfortable than I thought, never talking to a painting ever again. Since he had mainly been exploring the bottom floors of the castle he decided to take his time on each floor when he finally got to the fourth floor, he was halfway finished when he heard singing in a nearby room. ...not creepy at all...I must be near that rehearsal room that creepy painting was talking about. Zoltan decided to look for the source of the singing, with each step the singing got slightly louder. As he turned a corner he noticed a door ajar, he quietly walked up to the door, and poked his head in the see a beautiful girl singing and playing a midnight blue cello, the girl had hair white as snow with pale skin and shining blue eyes. He decided to let himself in to listen but made sure not to disturb her while playing.

As the song moved on, EmmaLee closed her eyes and swayed with the music, almost dancing along, lost in the song. Lithe fingers danced across the strings as the small girl's pale arm drew the bow back and forth, each movement bringing out practiced confident notes.
The song flowed like water towards its end and the cello hummed out its last note as its mistress finished with her voice. "Nothing really matters, anyone can see, nothing really matters to me."
EmmaLee took a calm breath as she lowered her bow, opened her eyes, and relaxed for a moment in her seat. She then immediately startled a little, sitting fully upright again, as the portraits around her began to politely clap. The girl's pale cheeks turned pink as she had forgotten about her original audience.
"That was quite good." "Not exactly Greensleeves, but appealing all the same." "Very good form, my dear." "Passionate little thing, aye?"
She smiled a little with sheepish pride at the praise and looked around the room until her eyes fell on a boy with black hair who had appeared at the door of the room.
"Oh." She said, surprised further at this newcomer, as she nervously pushed a stray lock of white hair behind her ear.
How long had he been there? Had he seen the whole thing? Why hadn't she chosen a better song, a more mature song, when she had known someone could just walk in?
She fumbled with her bow and instrument, all previous grace and control lost in her nervousness at being "caught", as she carefully placed the cello on its side next to her chair and the bow on top of her cello. Her cheeks grew ever pinker at her clumsiness.
"I...um...Hi." She finally stumbled out, putting one hand on her knees and waving the other one shortly with a small laugh that sounded like a high bell. "Hello. Do you need the room?" She asked with a shy but bright smile.

"Cho breagha."So beautiful
" Oh uh, no thank you, I was just lost." Zoltan lied, trying not to sound nervous, he had never seen or even talked to a girl this pretty, hell he's barely been able to talk to girls at all, just because he spends his time alone all by himself staying away from people and avoiding everyone so that he can just be at peace and not be bothered by anyone. "I agree with uh...them, your voice was very beautiful, I really enjoyed it." She looks so beautiful, maybe it was not a mistake coming here. After a few seconds of very awkward silence, Zoltan then
decides to introduce himself to the very beautiful girl standing before him. "Uh,
I am sorry, where are my manners? Hello, I am Zoltan Alexander, I am in Hufflepuff, I came here a few days ago so we may not have met yet. Zoltan said as he reached out his arm for a handshake. He looked at the girl up and down, she looked friendly enough to be trusted to be his friend at least. Good God, what the hell am I doing, I did not come here to make any friends, should I trust her? Or will she be just like all of the other worthless jerks that I had once called friends in the past?

EmmaLee moved her waving hand quickly to her ever-reddening cheek in embarrassment at the stranger boy's praise. She hadn't really considered that anyone would happen upon her in here and although she didn't mind the portraits or her parents watching her play, she still wasn't very confident in front of strangers. She thought for a moment about how this all had started with her wanting to play in the square like Tante Alura. Was EmmaLee good enough to play in the square yet? Would she ever be?
"Oh, um... Merci, I mean, thank you." The pale girl stuttered out sheepishly. "It was really not much. Just an arrangement I found." Her friend group in the States had introduced her to a lot of non–magique music and they had found quite a few cello arrangements that EmmaLee could play. Her friend, Grace, played the piano really well and EmmaLee loved to play various songs with Grace.
EmmaLee stood up daintily, smoothing down her skirt to use the nervous energy in her arms, and walked over to the boy as he introduced himself. As she came closer, she noticed that his eyes were a very pretty green and he was quite a few inches taller then her. Of course, most of the people she had met here were taller than her. The shorter girl beamed when he mentioned Hufflepuff.
"Oh! I'm in Hufflepuff, also. We must have been just missing each other." She said with a small giggle. "I'm first year, EmmaLee LeDames. It is nice to meet you, Zoltan." She continued, taking his offered hand and giving it a firm, friendly shake. She vaguely remembered her step-father always telling her that a firm, hearty handshake always gives a good first impression.
Once the handshake was over, the girl clasped her pale hands together behind her back and rocked on her heels for a bit before asking, "Do you like music, Zoltan? Do you play any instruments, as well?"

(IMPORTANT NOTE: I am going to be using green text from now on whenever Zoltan is speaking because the yellow text is very hard to read (For me at least), and I also really hate it...it just bugs the heck out of me.)
Even when Emma Lee was not as close to Zoltan as she was to him now, he could very easily tell that she was very nervous and slightly flustered by his sudden presence. "Merci?... Oh, well she must know how to speak French...or...maybe she is French...either way I think it is still cool to know more than one language." "Yes indeed, I love music, it may not be the kind you may be into, but yes, I really love music, it has a special place in my heart. I like to see music as a therapy for me, and as a teacher, music has helped me so much in my life so far, without it, I would not be here where I stand. It has helped me during some dark times...Heh, I like to joke around sometimes and say that music raised me more than my parents did...well, sometimes it did...but anyway as for playing instruments, I am thinking about learning to play the guitar when I am older, but I do not have high hopes that I will be good...but, enough about me, what kind of music do you like? And how long have you known to play cello so beautifully?"

"Oh, I love all kinds of music, even non–magique music." EmmaLee said, her small, pink lips forming into an even wider smile that showed almost all of her small, white teeth. Her blue eyes twinkled as the smile drew tiny little crinkles in the corners of her eyes. She moved her hands from her back to her front, bringing the tips of her pale fingers together in a small tent. Her fingernails were unpainted but well manicured to be clean and extremely short. "I completely agree with you. I think it would be like to die if my hearing ever ended. I feel like the melody of music moves the soul and I can't 'elp but dance and move along with it." She continued, nodding as Zoltan explained himself and swaying a bit as she responded, moving to imaginary music and a little bit of excitement at having apparently found a kindred spirit.
"Music teaches you so many lessons that you wouldn't know otherwise. It's a little like books in that way. You learn from the experiences of the writers in both cases. Like, learning learning the lesson without experiencing the pain. I also love it because it connects people. It makes you feel less alone in your feelings to hear someone expressing the same pain or joy." EmmaLee chattered, before cutting herself off abruptly and covering her mouth with the tips of her fingers. "Oops. I'm sorry. I think I'm talking too much." She giggled a little, slowly dropping her hands to her front and gently twisting her fingers. "I get a bit carried away sometimes." EmmaLee ducked her head a little sheepishly before popping back up and continuing to speak despite herself.
"The guitar is a great instrument, though. I think it would be fun to play as well, but why wait until you are older? I'm sure that you could be very good at it now. You definitely have the fingers for it." She explained, moving one arm to cross behind her back and pointing towards his hands. "I 'ave been playing the cello since I was 5 years old. My Tante Alura was the best cello player in France." She moved her pointing hand up to the side of her little mouth conspiratorially. "Well, at least according to me, and my opinion means the most." She whispered loudly with another small giggle.

"It is alright, when you live with 2 brothers who constantly talk all day, you get used to being around people that really love to talk, and it also really helps that I am a very patient person." Zoltan to himself: "Patient I am yes, but she does talk quite too often, oh well I can get used to it." "I love music, as do you, but while you may want to sing and dance, I cannot dance, and I will not sing, ever, even to myself, I have not tried, and I do not wish to try and sing, singing gets someone attention which is something I do not want, I prefer to be alone, it allows me to think more clearly." "Hmm...wait a minute I just noticed...just how long have we been here?" Zoltan looks around the room for a clock or something that could tell him the time. He then asks one of the paintings. "Excuse me, do any of you by chance know the time?"
"It is daytime dear." "Not that kind of time you twat!" Uh, I am sorry dear I am afraid that I do not know the time." "Sgoinneil, tha e math fios a bhith agad gu bheil dealbhan math gun dad. Fiù 's ag innse an àm cheart." Wonderful, it's nice to know paintings are good for nothing. Even telling the right time. "Hmm...Isn't almost dinner time?" "Well why I think it is!" Now a little annoyed, he replied "A bheannachd gràsmhor, CARSON nach b’ urrainn dhut a bhith air innse dhomh gur e a’ chiad uair a dh’ fhaighnich mi dhut an ùine?!?!" Goodness gracious, WHY couldn't you have told me that the first time when I asked you the time?!?! He then turns back to EmmaLee. " I am sorry, please forgive me for raising my voice, uh...would you care if I could accompany you to the great hall for dinner?" Zoltan asked a little flustered. "Hehe, you see, you're uh...my only friend...we...are friends right?"

EmmaLee blinked at the boy for a moment, stunned at his abruptness and unsure of what to say next. ~Eh bien, c'était plutôt grossier, Well, that was rather rude~ She thought with a small frown. ~mais il semble être assez maladroit socialement alors peut-être que ça va s'il est franc comme ça. Au moins, je sais où j'en suis avec lui et il n'y a pas de tourner autour du pot. but he seems to be quite socially awkward so maybe it's alright if he's blunt like that. At least I know where I stand with him and there's no beating around the bush.~ She continued to think, rolling his comments around in her head for a moment. She would have to remember that he was rather prickly in future conversations so as not to get her feelings hurt. She knew that prickly people were usually quite personable once they got comfortable with you and sometimes prickly people were fun simply because they were more prickly than other people. She also made a note to try and talk a little less.
As he continued on to talk about music and vehemently refused to sing or dance, she raised a pale eyebrow and giggled a little. "Well, that certainly is your prerogative." She said with a friendly smile. "I don't really sing for anyone or for attention, but for my own personal enjoyment. If others do enjoy it, then that is just a bonus." She swayed a little on her toes and then did a couple of random, but graceful twirls around the room, causing her skirt to flow around her in a wavy bell shape and her long white pony tail to twirl like a ribbon behind her.
When she came back to stand in front of him he was asking the portraits about the time, she produced a small sliver pocket watch from a pocket in her dress and clicked it open. The front of it was etched with a bright blue butterfly in the center and was detailed with small vines, little blue roses, and dainty leaves. "It's 16:50, um I mean, 4:50. A little early for dinner, but you are very welcome to sit with me when it is time." She said with a bright smile towards her new friend. "I would call us friends. It is definitely nice to make a new Hufflepuff friend. Never enough of us badgers to go around." She continued with a small giggle.
"If you let me fully pack up, we could take my things back to the dorm rooms and walk a little around the castle. By then it should be dinner time?" She offered, raising her pale eyebrow again with the question.
