On the way to hogwarts
Kayla knew she was running late. Her dad's car broke down so they had to take the bus but it was late. She had already said goodbye to her parents at the bus stop so all she had to do was get to platform 9 and 3\4. She glanced at the instructions in her acceptance letter. 'All I have to do is run into a wall' she thought but that was harder than it sounded as soon a she got close to the wall her feet stopped her. Her brains cautious mode was activated. It took her a few tries to build up her courage but eventually she did it. She ran top speed into the wall. Suddenly, she was surrounded by young witches or old wizards and everything inbetween. She stumbled into the train and was a compartment that looked empty. Kayla pulled her trunk to one of the comfy looking sofas and sat down. She set down her trunk and removed her coat. She was daydreaming about hogwarts when an old woman with a trolley slid open the door to the compartment. ‘Want any snacks dear?’ The old woman said,” Yes pls! What do you have?” Kayla said excitedly, ‘The young ones usually love chocolate frogs would you like a packet?’ The old woman smiled as she said this “ Ok then I’m am excited to try these now! How much?” Kayla asked ‘Oh, I’ll give you them for free as you’re such a sweet young witch’ As the old woman said this she passed Kayla a packet of chocolate frogs. “Are you sure? I don’t want to make your job harder” Kayla said worriedly. ‘Yes I’m sure!’ The old woman slid the compartment door closed and carried on her way.

On the way to hogwarts
Alyssea found herself baffled. For the first time in her life, she couldn't find friends. You'd think after all the travelling she did in her life, moving between schools and countries, another new school and finding new friends would be easy.
It wasn't.
She dragged her suitcase along the train, looking for any empty compartments. Most of them were already brimming and others seemed as if they had already been established way before getting on the train. It felt strange trying to find a place all alone; that had been her parents' and her brother's job her whole life. Now she was the older one who had to find a spot and settle in. The train ride wouldn't be easy standing up for hours.
She stopped by a compartment with only one girl. Alyssea looked down the hall. There wouldn't be an empty compartment for miles; better to just have a seat now and roam the area later so that her suitcase could at least be situated.
Alyssea knocked on the sliding door. The girl inside jumped but she gave a smile. Alyssea opened the door and leaned her head inside. "Hey, is it alright if I sit in here? There aren't any empty compartments left."
It wasn't a lie but it wasn't the whole truth, either. She hadn't walked the whole train up and down to see if there were any left, but would that affect anything? Besides, a long train ride seemed lonely and Alyssea also decided now was a good time to make a friend.

"Hello" said Kayla she was distracted as she was wondering how to open the chocolate frog box. "Of course you can sit here I need someone to share these with anyway" Looking up and showing the girl one of the chocolate frog boxes. " I bought a packet but I didn't know there was more than one in here" She laughed as she said this " Come sit down and make yourself comfy!" she gestured towards the blue sofa opposite to her and finally opened the chocolate frog box "ARGH!!!! I DIDN'T KNOW THEY MOVED!" She slapped her hand on top of the frog and stuffed it in her mouth "These are delicious" She said this with the frog in her mouth. After a bit of chewing she eventually swallowed the frog and picked up the card in the box. Albus Dumbledore she read "why is there just a blank picture" she said as she read the back of the card
Brilliant and often controversial headmaster of Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardary. Albus Dumbledore is most famous for his 1945 defeat of Grindlewald and steadfast championing of Harry Potter, The Boy Who Lived. Dumbledore's self-proclaimed proudest achievement was however, featuring on the Famous Wizards Chocolate Frog card she read. " Well that doesn't explain why the picture is blank" she sighed

Alyssea sighed with relief. "Thank you so much."
The girl lifted one of the wrappers to show Alyssea more clearly. "I bought a packet but I didn't know there was more than one in here."
She could see now it was one of those chocolate frogs that her parents were obsessed with as students. Once she received her letter, they poured in with stories of their own time at Hogwarts. Her father showed her his box of chocolate frog cards he collected. There were well over 200 in that box.
Alyssea chuckled and the girl did the same. She ushered Alyssea into the opposite seat and continued opening her wrapper. Alyssea pushed her suitcase handle down and lifted the case up onto the shelves above the seats.
Just as Alyssea brushed down her robes and sat down, the girl screamed. "ARGH!!!! I DIDN'T KNOW THEY MOVED!"
The chocolate frog jumped around and onto the windowsill. Alyssea could only laugh. They were still as slippery as twenty-odd years ago. The girl then slapped her hand on top of the frog and stuffed it in her mouth.
The girl focused on the card she got. Her brows furrowed as she read the description.
Alyssea cleared her throat. "What's your name?"
She held out her hand and smiled. "I'm Alyssea. I'm from Devon, England. Though, I was born in Sydney, Australia."

She looked up at the girl a (who just told Kayla that her name was Alyssea) asked her name " Oh I'm Kayla! Nice to meet you Alyssea." she listen carefully as Alyssea continued talking and shook her hand "Do you remember Australia or not? Is it really hot there and are there sharks and nice beaches!" She said fascinated by the prospected of another country "I'm from Brighton. and I haven't ever left the UK before so forgive me for the excitement." She smiled at Alyssea and opened another box of chocolate frogs this time she trapped the frog under the box and looked at the card first Rowena Ravenclaw this time she saw the picture " Why is this one not blank but the other one is?" She put her card on top of the other one. Then she removed the box from on top of the frog and quickly put it in her mouth. She then picked up the Rowena Ravenclaw card and exclaimed " What the hell! The pictures gone blank .URGH!!!!!" She then quickly read the back of the card and put it with her other card. " So do you know what's gonna happen at this school? I didn't know that magic was actually real let alone me being a witch" she laughed.

Kayla Smith was Alyssea's first friend at Hogwarts.
Okay, not officially. They hadn't even gotten to know each other fully yet. All she said was where she came from in England and where she was born (the fact always seemed to interest people. Australia? What an interesting place.)
"Do you remember Australia or not?" Kayla asked. Alyssea nodded. She had spent much of her childhood there, moving between there and Japan. A large portion of her life in Australia was spent in the local theatre halls. There she grew her love for theatre, particularly musicals.
"Is it really hot there?" Kayla asked again.
Alyssea shrugged. "Depends on where you live. In Sydney, it was pretty mild."
"Are there sharks?"
Alyssea shook her head with a laugh. "No, it's pretty rare. In Sydney, at least. They're more common further south."
Kayla then excused herself, mentioning she had never left the UK. It shocked Alyssea that a lot of people have probably never seen the world. She spent all her life travelling to different continents. It was part of her routine as a child. Never settle your heart in one place, her dad had said. There will never be time to settle.
Her brother eventually had to break off from the family and settle in America to attend Ilvermorny. That broke their mother's heart, but she understood the need for stability.
"So," Kayla began, "do you know what's gonna happen at this school? I didn't know that magic was actually real, let alone me being a witch." She laughed.
Alyssea shrugged. "My parents told me what their time was like at Hogwarts, but I don't know if things have changed since then. I definitely know we're going to be sorted into houses, stay in dorms, and go to classes during the day. I don't know about schedules or extracurricular activities."
Maybe that was the fun in going to Hogwarts. The castle, and all its history, was your home.

"Cambridge University? That's a pretty good English school, isn't it?" Alyssea didn't think so much about it. With the prospect of attending a magic school, since her brother turned 11, she never thought about life beyond her primary years. Why bother if it'll never happen?
But she imagined what life would be like had she not been on this train. Where would she be? In 7 years' time, would she be in a school like Kayla's parents? Would she still be hopping between countries with her parents, never seeing her brother except for the occasional owl or fire-call?
Alyssea shook her head. No point thinking about what won't happen now.
Kayla asked her about the houses and she grinned. She loved talking about it. "So, there are four houses at Hogwarts. There's Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff. They're all named after the four founders of Hogwarts."
Being a history nerd, she rattled off the different traits that the founders instilled in their houses. Bravery for Gryffindor, ambition for Slytherin, intelligence for Ravenclaw, and kindness for Hufflepuff. Her parents had been from different houses; her dad was a Slytherin and her mother was a Ravenclaw. Where would Alyssea end up? Her brother attended Ilvermorny, so she couldn't compare herself to him. The logical choice would be either Slytherin or Ravenclaw, but did she really fit in those house values?
"There's this thing called the Sorting Ceremony where they put a hat, called the Sorting Hat, on us and the hat decides!" Alyssea beamed. She loved spilling all her history knowledge. "If the hat spends more than 5 minutes on us, it's called a 'hatstall' and sometimes, we can give our preference to help the hat make a choice."
She saw Kayla fumble through pages from the required books and chuckled. "Hey, don't stress. It won't be that bad, I promise."

OOC: We can make a new thread in another forum so that it stays relevant! We should totally do a Sorting Ceremony RP (as we're both Hufflepuffs so it would make for a great plot) but I'm also open to whatever.

"Yeah, Cambridge is the best University in Britain! My parents were the top of their class in all of their school years." She said, "They now are scientists but I don't see them much as they are always researching." Kayla let her smile falter for a second but quickly hid her frown. She listen carefully to Alyssea's facts about all the Hogwarts Houses and thought about what house she might be in *Maybe
I could be in Ravenclaw that will make my parents proud* She thought as Alyssea started taking about the sorting ceremony and hatstalls. She realised she was still holding the History of Magic when Alyssea said not to worry. HOOT HOOT Kayla went over to the window to see if they were at Hogwarts yet. " Alyssea! Come see I think there are teachers. I think we are at the station!" Kayla grabbed Alyssea's arm and pulled her to the window. HOOT HOOT CREEEAK The train stopped with a slight jolt "Come on! Lets get our trunks and get to the platform" She grabbed her trunk and put on her coat and waited at the compartment door for Alyssea.

Kayla's parents fascinated Alyssea. Scientists? People who studied how the world worked from mathematics right down to the chemical breakdown? They understood how to manipulate the environment using mixtures and machines, yet, they had a daughter who would be able to wield magic. What would the chemical makeup of magic look like?
The thought intrigued her. Perhaps it contributed to the reason why magic outside of Hogwarts and any magical institution was forbidden; it would change the trajectory of the world.
But Kayla didn't seem too avid about her parents. When she said she didn't see them often, she could understand why. She hadn't seen her brother since the summer she performed her first accidental magic. She had broken his speaker just with a little spark and the drives completely melted. He never came back after that summer, said he needed to spend the holidays studying for his exams.
She couldn't help but question their relationship after that summer. If they had settled in America for good, would she be there with her brother in Ilvermorny? Would their relationship be better that way?
The train came to a stop. Kayla jumped up and grabbed her trunk. Alyssea followed suit and took her suitcase. She clicked the handle open and lifted it up. She dragged it across the floor and followed Kayla out of the compartment. Together, they filed out of the train with all the other students, slowly trudging through bodies and trunks. The sign outside read 'Hogsmeade Station'.
Voices, presumably teachers, yelled instructions for the students. They were instructed to huddle together and follow the Groundskeeper to the next part of the journey. Other students, those returning to Hogwarts, were instructed to follow a different path.
Together, they walked down the shady path through the pine trees. Alyssea listened to the murmurs of the other first-years walking with them.
"We're going to ride boats to the castle!"
"What if our boat tips?"
"Why don't we get to ride the carriages to the castle?"
Alyssea turned to Kayla and whispered close to her ear, "Are you excited? This is really it."
They then arrived at a large lake. Across the lake was the castle at last, standing in all its glory just as the stories told.
They had arrived at Hogwarts.
