Time is Fragile but I am not finished

Mellani enters the library, mostly out of boredom. The library was her pace to go when she was bored or frustrated or in any mood, really. And the mystery section was her favorite section. Always.

She noticed another girl there too. A closer look tole her that it was Opal Brinkman. The girl who had initiated the Spin The Bottle game back in the Common Room. She seemed to have picked up 'One of Us is Lying'. Ooooh, that was a book Mellani had read recently. After all, part of the reason why she had come here was because she wanted the sequel book to it.

She looked at Opal once again. She didn't look like the kind of person who read books. But well, nowadays, almost everyone did read books. Hardly anyone could survive without them. She went through the covers, searching for the sequel book.

"Found it!" she muttered in a low voice, picking up 'One of Us is Back' from the shelves. Then she went and sat on another one of the chairs, not very close to Opal but not very far either. She started reading through the book, several thoughts encircling her mind as the mystery unraveled.

Mellani notices Opal glaring at her. Wow, why did everyone like to glare at her? It wasn't like she had done anything to deserve it. She shrugged, ignoring her. Then, when she sat down and started reading the book out of interest, Opal walked over to her and started talking about the book. Why? Why did she have to spoil it? And why was she being so rude? Mellani really wished she knew.

She stayed quiet for a bit but when the other girl didn't stop, she threw her book at her. "SHUT THE HELL UP, WILL YOU?" she asked. She wasn't the kind of person who was rude to others. But when people tried to hurt her, she didn't give a damn about kindness. She always stood up for herself and did what was necessary to earn the respect she deserved. She didn't complain about her life to others. She solved her problems by herself.

Mellani gave a small sigh as Opal started talking about Spin The Bottle. "Oh, I thought you knew I did snog. Once. And got snogged thrice. And guess who snogged me twice? Luci did." This was not something Mellani bragged about. In fact, she didn't even care about that day. But this time she was going to do it just to irritate Opal. After all, she deserved it.

"And yet, I wouldn't care." Mellani replied when Opal caught the book. She did like books and she was the model student who hadn't destroyed any but Opal wasn't going to know any of that. Opal was just going to know that she was the one being a bitch and she needed to stop.

"Oh, I don't give a damn about Luci. But I'm glad that my comment hurt you. Oh, how fun it was to hear you screaming when the dungbomb went off that day. Me, I was smart enough to leave before it did." Mellani said, a small smirk on her face. She watched in silence as Opal pointed a wand at her. "You really think that spell is going to succeed? After all, you look like you're pointing a wand for the first time."

Wow, that girl seemed jealous of her looks. Well, Mellani didn't care about looks. And her life had nothing to do with her parents. And she wasn't ashamed of who she was either. Just insecure. And she wasn't going to give a crap about what the other girl was saying. "Not only do you seem to be jealous of my looks, you are jealous of my personality too. Well, sadly your whole speech was probably given to you by someone else and you decided to use it on another person, not bothering who. Maybe you wanted to feel better about having an ugly personality yourself. But well, life doesn't work that way. You can't just walk up to someone and utter nonsense to them. The sooner you learn that, the better."

This day was not extraordinary, or at least so Opeila had thought. A school day like every other, where the young fourth year went to class, spent the breaks catching up with her friends and already start some homework and after class went to study in the library.

And that was what Opeila tried to do. After storing some books in her room, she made her way up to the library again, a half-written History of Magic essay in her bag, calmly walked past the rows of shelves until she found a table in a quiet corner.

The young prefect could only take her writing utensils and essay out of her bag when she heard two kids talk, just a little too loudly to be appropriate for the location. She had still tried to ignoe it then, but when they began to yell at each other, there was no point anymore. There was no way she or anyone else for that matter could study with that much noise.

With a sigh, Opeila got up from her chair again and followed the loud voices. She passed the last row of shelves concealing the girls just in time to see one of them draw her wand and cast a spell at the other.

Almost four years of living at Hogwarts as well as over two years of duelling had taught Opeila to be prepared to defend herself, to have her wand stored where she could draw it quickly. And so she did. "Expelliarmus!" A flash of red light would knock the wand out of Opal's hand. "Finite Incantatem." Mellani's legs would stop moving.

"Try to pick up that wand and I will freeze you.", Opeila warned Opal. As the mess got cleared up, both of the girls would find themselves glared at. "Are you mad? What were you thinking, screaming around and casting spells in a library?" The wand still in her hand, Opeila would look at the girls, waiting for an explanation. It better be a good one.

Opal, you were caught redhanded, so you will definitely get detention, but Mellani, feel free to try and convince Opeila to let you go

"And when the hell did my mom tell you that? That's right, never. I'm pretty sure that's what your mother would have done, though." Mellani said, least affected by anything Opal had said.

And then Opal cast the spell. The dancing feet spell and Mellani's legs started moving weirdly and uncontrollably. "Oh great" she muttered. And then she saw another girl who looked much older enter and noticed that it was a prefect. She silently thanked whatever and whoever had made her enter the library.

And the girl stopped the spell. Mellani said a small but grateful 'Thank you' to her and then started explaining what had happened. "Um... I had just come to the library to read a book and Opal started shouting rude things at me and I was just trying to defend myself. I'm really sorry... I didn't mean to yell but I've always stood up for myself and I really can't let someone else insult me and my parents this way." she apologized, clearly ignoring Opal. She was going to do whatever she could to not end up in detention and besides, it wasn't really her fault. She hadn't even taken her wand out yet. She had just come to the library to read a book. What Opal's problem with that was, she didn't know.

She looked at the prefect, silently pleading her to understand. She was one of those model students who never went into detention and she did not want this to be her first time. She really was sorry for being rude to Opal but Opal had to understand that she couldn't just go around insulting random people like that either. What if she had chosen a less strong person as her target. Would that person not have been affected by her rudeness? The answer was no. That person would probably have been much more mentally affected than Mellani was. Mellani was used to such people who just wanted to find a way to remove their anger on someone. But that didn't mean everyone was. And she didn't want anything like this to happen to someone else.
