Lost in the Night
Apinya wandered through the darkening halls, clutching her books to her chest. She had been walking for what felt like hours now. Why did you think it was a good idea to play that last game of wizard chess in the Main Hall? Now she was as lost as she could be, and definitely past curfew. There should be a map or signs or... something! There's not even a clock in this school. Are we expected to just magically know the time? She was getting more and more worried and angry as she paced the corridors for what seemed like the hundredth time, the echoing caused by her shoes seeming far too loud for her liking. Now what's going to happen? You're going to get caught and then get detention, and then Mother's going to find out somehow! She shuddered at the thought of her mother finding out that she got detention. Hey, at least she can't send me a Howler! Bright side Apinya, bright side. She'd seen other students get Howlers from angry parents and thanked all the stars that she was Muggle-born. Still, an angry letter is just as bad- She started as she thought she heard something. Probably just a portrait. Or the moving stairs. You're fine. No-one's caught you. Yet.

Lost in the Night
Jaden wandered through the halls of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with a twinge of disappointment.
She'd been struggling to sleep after a long evening of writing an essay for History of Magic, and she was miserable. Her hand was cramped up, her mind was still racing, and her legs ached for some sort of movement.
Jaden finally decided that maybe she could sneak to the kitchens and ask for some tea to help her wind down, but she was beginning to realize why she so rarely saw house elves out in the open. They were sneaky, and she couldn't find a single one! Exhausted, but not sleepy, and without the calming chamomile she'd sought out, the Ravenclaw was dragging her feet through the corridors, just desperate to go to bed.
As she stepped around a corner, Jaden was startled to see a figure. With her immediate instinct being to think it was a faculty member or prefect, the surprise caused her to lose her footing. With a muffled thud, Jaden fell to the ground and landed on her butt.
"Jeez," she said to the girl. "You came out of nowhere."
She rubbed the ache from her lower back and squinted suspiciously at the other girl.

"Ahhh!" Apinya jumped backwards as she heard the other girl approaching, causing her to drop the books she was carrying. A loud crash echoed around the corridors, and she winced. Oops. Great job Apinya, way to not get caught. Peering through the gloom, she relaxed when she saw it was a girl her own age, getting up from the ground.
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!" She apologized quietly as she bent down to pick up her books, "I didn't mean to scare you like that. Are you ok?"
Squinting, she noticed the girl was in Ravenclaw robes. Great. Well, she probably wouldn't know the way back to the Hufflepuff common room and dorms, but she supposed there was no harm in asking.
"Sorry, you don't happen to know where the Hufflepuff dorms are, do you? I'm kinda... slightly... very lost." She giggled at the slight absurdity of it all. Then another thought struck her, "Wait, what are you doing out this late? And how haven't you been caught? Its way past curfew you know. If we get caught, we'll be in detention, and my mother will kill me!"
Realising she'd said too much, she tried to backpedal, "Forget I said that, it's not important."

Jaden winced as she rose to her feet. She'd be feeling that later. Ouch.
"I'm fine, thanks," she responded idly, looking around to see if their little ruckus had attracted any trouble for them. So far, so good. "I'm usually a bit better at keeping my balance."
The girl seemed to be working her way into hysterics, and the loud noise would only attract attention, so Jaden hurriedly shushed the girl and lifted her hands placatingly.
"Hufflepuff, right?" she asked quickly. "It's near the kitchens, no? I just left the kitchens. I can try to lead you?"
Jaden held out a hand toward the Hufflepuff girl in an offer to guide her. It wouldn't be too hard. For the blonde, she was simply going to have to retrace her steps.
"Yeah, it's pretty late. I just wanted some tea, but the house elves are apparently all in bed or something, 'cos I couldn't find any," she muttered in frustration. "I was actually just at the kitchens, so it shouldn't be hard to find our way. "
She paused, glancing back to the girl.
"Why were you out so late?" she asked, before shaking her head and deciding that it didn't really matter.
"My mum wouldn't be very happy either," she admitted. "Perhaps we should move quickly, eh?"
Then she turned around the way she came.

Apinya sighed with relief. Gathering up the last of the papers that had miraculously not flown over the railing (thank goodness), she hurried to catch up to the other girl.Interacting With: @Jaden Harrison
"Thank goodness you found me when you did, and before any teachers or prefects came." She tried to keep her voice low, but it still echoed around the stone corridor even at a whisper. Listening to her explanation of why she was out, Apinya's eyes widened, "You can do that? Just ask the house elves to make you tea? I've never seen a house elf before. Don't you think it's a bit cruel that-" She clamped her hand over her own mouth to stop her from blabbering on again, "Sorry. I do that a lot. I won't say another word now, promise."
Hurrying down some stairs, she squeaked quietly as the staircase started to move, jolting her sideways and causing her to loose her footing. The sound echoed up and down the column of stairs, and she tensed, "Sorry again." She hissed. She really needed to start getting better at this quiet thing. Making it to the bottom, she followed dutifully behind the girl, focusing more on not tripping over her too big robes and making a scene than actually following, to be completely honest.

"What's with all the papers and books?" Jaden asked, watching the other girl grab them. "Bit late to be doing homework outside your common room, isn't it?"
It was a bit hypocritical to chastise someone for sneaking out when she was doing the same, but at least she'd been doing her homework in her dorm. Well, maybe this other girl had trouble doing homework outside of the library or something. Jaden certainly had no room to judge.
"I've never asked a house elf for tea either," she admitted sheepishly. "Just thought it sounded good, and I didn't know who else to ask. I'm not exactly going to ask a prefect or professor for tea, I suppose."
The other girl shushed herself, which was a bit excessive. They could still talk, as long as they kept relatively quiet. It was just dangerous to get stressed out and loud.
"It's no problem," she said with an amused smile. "I'm Jaden, by the way. I've seen you around, but I don't think we've spoken yet. Do you need help carrying your books?"

Her eyes followed the corridors as she retraced her steps. It was strange, seeing the castle at night. She normally only saw it at night when she was on her way to or from Astronomy class. The ambience was different, the emptiness was unsettling, and she could swear the paintings on the walls weren't in their usual spots.
"What was it that you meant to say before interrupting yourself?" she asked curiously. "Something about cruelty?"

"Oh uh, I was doing some homework in the Great Hall when some older Ravenclaws challenged me to some wizard chess. Lose a game and you have to eat an Every Flavour Bean. We carried on playing way too late, and by the time I realised what the time was, I was gonna be late for curfew. All the other Hufflepuffs had pretty much gone, and I have a terrible sense of direction, so I kinda got lost."Interacting With: @Jaden Harrison
She grinned at the girl's suggestion, "Yeah, I suppose asking a professor or prefect for a tea would be really weird. I'm glad you don't mind my chatter by the way, in case you haven't noticed I do that a lot."
Realising she hadn't introduced herself, she mentally facepalmed, "Sorry I haven't said before, I'm Apinya. Apinya Milner. Yeah, I think I've seen you around too. Glad we finally got the chance to chat. Oh, and no, I don't need any help, but thank you for the offer."
She tried to stick as close as she could to Jaden as they scurried through the halls. The darkness around them seemed to have a mind of its own, pooling in the darkest corners. Everything seemed stranger, more twisted and scary in the dark. It reminded her of why she had such a fear of it.
"Oh, I was trying to say, don't you think it's cruel that house elves are bound to a human? They don't have any free will, and have to do whatever they're told. Or at least, that's what I've read. Imagine, not being able to do things you like. I don't think I'd ever keep a house elf."

Lost in the Night
Well, well, Cassie does love mischief. It seems to her that sneaking out at night is great fun! After everyone is asleep, she slowly sits up from her bed. Still wearing her pajamas and slippers, she walked quietly out the dormitory. The door leading outside the common room is a difficulty. She tries to open it up a bit, and it squeaked. Cassie froze. Luckily, no one heard her.
Successfully, she moves outside her common room and down the spiral staircases. If only she can have enough money for an invisibility cloak! Well, tonight, she is exploring the corridors for some adventure. The more scary it is, the happier she will be!
She walks and walks, as quietly as she can, and she arrives at the corridors. Suddenly, she hears someone talking inside. Who can be there? After several minutes of listening, she realizes a girl was lost. So she walks inside, wishing to scare them somehow.
Without any of them realizing, Cassie is standing next to them. 'Hello.' she says, 'what are you guys doing here? It's so late now. You know, it's against the school rules.' with a smile, she says, 'okay, no more scary words, I am not a prefect, just a normal student. I am here for some mischief. I don't like obeying the rules.'

Apinya. That was a unique name. Jaden had never heard the name before, and she quite liked it.
She'd managed to find her rhythm in the navigation of the castle, so she was fairly confident she was heading the right way. Hopefully. She'd never actually been to the Hufflepuff common room. She'd never had reason to, honestly.
"I 'spose it wouldn't be very fun to have to obey someone all day with no free will, but isn't that the same as what adults do?" Jaden asked. "That sounds awfully similar to how my Dad describes his workdays usually. Says he has to listen to his boss all the time, and he's a proper twit. He said something about falling up, but that doesn't quite make sense, I suppose."
She paused thoughtfully as they walked.
"Isn't that the same? The house elves are just doing a job, right? It's like -"
Jaden was so wrapped up in their conversation, she didn't notice the other entity creeping up to them, but creep up to them it did. Whatever she'd been planning on saying was entirely interrupted as the other figure spoke up. It was a simple 'Hello.' but Jaden - not expecting it at all - was completely startled.
"Oh, fiddlesticks!" she swore as she suddenly stopped in the middle of the corridor, her feet skidding to a half and only barely managing to avoid a horrid slip and fall. Her hand rested on her chest as she waited for her heart to slow down.
"Gosh. You scared the dickens out of me," she muttered to the other Ravenclaw. She shot a glance to Apinya to see if the other girl was alright. "You can't just go sneaking around like that this late at night."
She didn't know why sneaking at night made things worse, to be honest. What was she afraid of? Ghosts? She'd already seen several since coming to Hogwarts. It was more of a learned habit at this point to be jumpy in the dark.
"What sort of mischief did you have in mind?" she asked, curious.

Apinya pondered Jaden's suggestion for a moment. She had never really asked about her dad's work, but he sure seemed to do a lot of it, and her mother didn't work, as far as she knew. Maybe it was like a job, but some of the house elves she'd seen around Diagon Alley hadn't looked very happy when she had been there.Interacting With: @Jaden Harrison @Cassie Jiang
"Yeah, I guess." Not having the energy to argue her point right now, she surrendered her argument, agreeing with the Ravenclaw.
Suddenly, a "Hello" came from the darkness to her right, and Apinya jumped sideways, just barely missing Jaden and falling into the wall, hitting a painting and setting it rocking on its hook. She put out a hand to stop it shaking, hoping and praying there were no people hidden in the rolling hills that the picture depicted. The last thing she wanted was to get caught by a painting. Satisfied there was definitely no one there, she turned around, brushing her hair out of her eyes to get a better look at the other person.
She looked young, about their age, and Apinya was sure that she had seen her around school several times, but never talked to the girl.
"Oh my gosh, you scared the bajeezus out of me!" She whispered, feeling her heart pounding in her chest, "What on earth are you doing out here at this hour?"
Suddenly, she heard mischief mentioned and perked up, looking at the girl with a quirked eyebrow and a sly smile, "Well, what did you have in mind?" Her heart was still fluttering with fear, but she tried to play it cool. If we get caught, and my mother finds out, she'll be mad.
"Oh, I'm Apinya by the way. Apinya Milner. And you are? I feel like if we'll be pulling pranks together, we have a right to each others' names." She extended a hand to the ginger haired girl, smiling.
