Mari Chisako Baudelaire  Mahoutokoro
Name: Mari Chisako Baudelaire
School: Mahoutokoro
Year: 1st year
Status: Muggle-born
Appearance: Mari has an intimidating demeanor at the first glance. Her soft features form a resting straight face. She is above average height for her age at 4'11 and still growing. Her copper-brown hair runs wavily down her back, ending just above her thighs. It is usually kept out of her face in either a french braid or a bun.

Her typical clothing style consists of mainly basic items in dark or neutral tones. She doesn't favor frills or lace and instead opts for more minimalistic, practical choices. It is rare to find any hint of wear of mess in Mari's appearance. She rarely has a hair out of place if it's avoidable. All aspects need to be accounted for in order to create the perfect perception.

Personality: Mari is not "shy," per say, but filtered. She puts thought into what she says. Word choice matters. Intonation matters. Even the slightest raise of an eyebrow can change the meaning of a comment entirely. So, she controls herself. Everything little movement is done with intention (and a whole lot of overthinking) in order to create her desired impression.

Perfection is the desired impression. She does not want anything but, in the same way, wants everything, all at once. Mari craves recognition in all that she tries. If she can't be the best or have the most, why should she try at all? She has to succeed. If she succeeds, the feeling of outcasted-ness will go away, right? Right?

What Mari shows to the world is a reserved girl, one who will not state her opinions easily. Once she is comfortable enough, she will talk more. If she's not, she won't. Her mind is more serious than playful, yet she is capable of sarcasm and deadpan humor when desired. She cares for those around her and will opt to help someone in need if she is capable of it.

History:
The setting was a high school in Paris in the 1990s. Pierre Baudelaire was well-known within the school as a member of the student council as well as honor roll and many other accolades. That was why he was standing in the hallway at 7 in the morning to the receive the new transfer student, Ayana Chisako from Nagoya, Japan. Did he want to be there? No. Did he have a say? Also no. The principal said he had to so he had to. Thankfully for the 16 year old, he ended up enjoying the experience more than he thought, even the part where it turned into a date. Especially, the part where it turned into a date. 10 years later, the pair were married and living in an apartment in Tokyo.

On the 17th of December in 2010, Ayana gave birth to twin daughters. Mari was the older and larger one. As a baby, she was the less fussy of the two and more of a calm personality. Mai was the opposite. She was always crying over everything and anything.

As the two grew older, they became inseparable. Even in school, if one was there, the other was sure to be close. They had the same friends, did the same things, got invited to the same places. Both girls took ice skating lessons and were in the choir club in school.

It was on the ice where Mari had her first instance of magic. She was 6 years old and had just learned how to do a basic spin and a basic jump. In order to impress her friends, she thought to combine the two and do a spin-jump. This did not work so well for her. One of her ice skates caught on the other and she started falling towards the ice. Luckily, the skate's grip on the ice strengthened enough for her to keep her on her feet and she got out of the situation with no injuries, only flushed cheeks.

One day, Mari received notice that she was accepted into Mahoutoukoro, a school where she hadn't applied. She hadn't even heard of it before. That was the day when she first learned about the existence of magic.

It was 7 in the morning and Mari's brain felt like it had been possessed by the clouds of fog that hung low in the sky. She clung to her Quidditch robes, pulling them closely around her figure. They were hardly sufficient protection against the cold air of Minami Iwo Jima. Her eyebags were maroon-tinted and prevalent on her face. "Like a racoon," her teammate had teased her the other day. They had a point.

She took her practice broom and joined the ranks of her teammates, standing in a line and ready to receive instructions from the captain. Hopefully it would go quickly. The eleven-year-old was bouncing on her toes to get in the air. The adrenaline she felt from flying never failed to help her wake up.

Mari internalized the instructions before pushing off and taking flight. Basic flight drills were a common experience in her life yet she could always benefit from more practice with them. It was a case where she would do whatever it took to make sure she achieved the ideal form. It would come to her aid in matches.

Matches... It was her first year on the team. She was one of the youngest at twelve years old. If she were to have a game-winning moment, then, maybe, she could become one of the stars of the team. Then, maybe, she could be captain herself by the time she's older. Mari could imagine it already. She could visualize the stadium in all of its glory expanding below her. She could see herself shooting a quaffle through the goalposts. She could hear the loud cheers of the crowd screaming her name. She could imagine the growls of the muggle cars in the distance.

Wait... muggle cars? That made no sense. Mari snapped out of her daydream and looked around. Surely enough, the growls were real. On her right was a muggle airplane. It was a military model, one of the types commonly found at the nearby airbase. If she were to continue on her planned course, she would crash fatally in approximately 10 seconds.

Quickly, she pointed the tip of her broom towards the ground and increased her speed to the max. Since it was a school broom, it didn't go very fast but it did the trick. She swerved downward and avoided crashing into or being seen by those in the plane. She shouted out to her teammates who had drifted in another direction to warn them. They would have to postpone their practice until the planes had finished morning drills.
