Alexx had been particularly thoughtless that day. Her head was clouded with anything and everything; a habit of hers that she had meant to break, but never got around to doing so. She dreamed of anything and everything these days. There was just so much to dream up, she couldn't let a single dream go to waste.

But alas, she ended up running into something, or someone. Alexx may not have been graceful, no, but she was careful. Then again, there was a reason she wasn't on the Quidditch team... Her thought process often sent her crashing into someone, as it did with this poor, unfortunate Gryffindor. She felt bad, truly, and hoped he'd understand that she didn't just go about pushing and shoving whoever she pleased.

"Je suis désolée!" She remarked, stretching her hand out to help the boy up. Her instinct was to say it in French, as that was always the first language that came to mind (despite it not even being her first), but she quickly realized that he might not know French. "My apologies, what I meant to say is that I'm sorry." She said, chuckling sheepishly.

Her long, soft blonde hair bounced as she slouched slightly so that she could reach further. Her green eyes with their tints of gold softened, and a smile spread across her pale face. She wanted to give off the impression that she was friendly, as she was often mistaken for being harsh and cold.

Alan was looking around trying to get to his table, maybe even looking out for his roommates. Well at least it seems that he was not careful enough as he crashed into a person, which sends him falling onto the ground. Still a bit dazzled he slightly shook his head and then raised his face up, meeting eyes with a young girl, his age as it seemed at least. The uniform she was wearing had the details a Slytherin’s uniform would have. Having no prejudices towards the house, he gently shook his head as he took the offered hand with a grateful smile. He stood up and afterwards brushed over his clothes in case dust clung to the fabric or anything got crumpled.

“Oh no! You don’t have to apologize! I just spaced out and was not careful enough to look where I was going!” He quickly said with a smile looking her over. She seemed nice. “Oh! My name is Alan by the way.. as you can see I am Gryffindor!” He said stumbling over his words as he stretched out his hand for her to shake. The blinding smile never leaving his lips, as his green eyes sparked.

Alexx smiled fondly at Alan, shaking his hand. "Je m'apelle Alexx, I bear green and silver, as you may see." She introduced herself politely. "Were you going to sit? We can walk and talk, I don't wish to hold you up." Her formal tone seemed nearly foreign in these halls that were decorated with children of many dialects. For Alexx, it depended on how well you knew her.

Though she wasn't raised in a formal household, it was a strict and demanding tongue that carried with her through her journeys; one most people either tolerated or didn't. If it were to ever have been hated, no one had the nerve to tell her that to her face. If she had to guess, her seriousness followed her in more ways than just her way of speaking.

But she didn't see any remorse in Alan's eyes when she spoke, his eyes were light and cheerful. A friendly face felt welcoming after a year of drama. She felt as though she was merely playing in a performance whose ending has already been written. Recently, Alexx felt insignificant compared to her inevitable outcome, though she didn't know what that was.

Typically, the tone conveyed by the young blonde was bittersweet, but this particular day, the way she spoke shone like a beam of light. It was pleasant, and a change she had long awaited. She couldn't comprehend why she was in such a good mood on this day. Maybe it was due to the new acquaintance that fate brought her to, who knows? All she knew is that she was thankful Alan wasn't frightened away, as most people had been before.

It was true that she was a sweet girl when you got to know her, but as she had been told on more than one occasion, she carried an unforgiving aura with her. It was a curse she never meant to have, though it wasn't as if she chose to be as harsh as she was. The whole thing was more of a trait she had acquired growing up.

"I still feel the need to apologize, though. I wasn't watching where I was going. You'd think roaming the streets of Paris as a young girl would teach me to be aware of my surroundings." It was true, the words her French accent spoke to the boy. She had learned nothing, even after years of exploring the busy streets of Paris. Even after the words of her austere mother had been drilled into her head, she was still mindless. Her brain was thickly fogged with thoughts of other things, nothing to do with whatever was at hand. Mikey, her brother, had tried to teach it to her in a softer tone, but even then, Alexx couldn't remember listening to him. It was yet another habit she had been meaning to break.

Alan listened carefully to that very formal voice and was surprised about the sound of it. Well he was used to it by the way his mother talked or so... A sad frown was placed on his soft features as he thought about his parents. He was really glad to have his aunt at this moment, because even though he misses his parents he would miss the school a lot. So he was glad for the offer her aunt made him and had to day that the woman, even though nice, was a bit intimidating. But Alan was not afraid of her, he kind of liked his mother's sister.

"I was planning to sit at the Gryffindor table like usual but we could sit somewhere else if you prefer that?" He softly proposed with a timid voice. When he listened what the girl had to say further his eyes widened. "You are French?" He asked with an excitement in his voice only he could muster. But honestly he lived that language and never really met a French person. "I really like your accent he chirped forgetting his sorrow for a while. He was easy to distract even from his own thoughts as you see.

"Your table is fine!" Alexx chirped. Though she had a bad experience with Gryffindor students in the past, she trusted Alan. She shoved her hands in her pockets, and she cocked her head to the side a little bit.

"Merci, monsieur." She responded, smiling. She let her feet slowly shuffle towards the Gryffindor table, figuring it best that she begin to move. "Ah- yes. I am French." She responded, laughing nervously a little bit.

Most people had that reaction. "You're French?" They would all ask, enthusiasm in their eyes. "Oui," she would respond, smiling weakly at them. But she couldn't bring herself to be less enthusiastic around Alan as she was around anyone else when they met her. Instead, she smiled brightly at him, being as friendly as she could be.

In the short time spent with him, she had already grown fond of the boy. It wasn't often someone met her acquaintance, especially not this early on. But Alan was nice! How could she not befriend him immediately?

But into the deeper meaning, she saw something in his eyes that reflected in her own oceans. Something sad about him, though it was masked well. She didn't ask; Alexx knew better. And maybe that was why she instantly liked him? She could not tell. Not yet, anyway.

Alan laughed softly. "My table it is then!", he replied with a smile that matched the sun in brightness. He began to lead the way, easily staying next to the girl as he wanted to continue talking to her. "French is really awesome! My aunt is teaching me the language or well she is trying to", he explained and hoped that it did not sound stupid. "Her husband is french, she studied there too and because I am living there now it was the opportunity to learn it" he added as he played with the hem of his schoolrobe.

He could see some people sitting at the table but could not catch a glimpse of someone he knew, so he headed to an empty spot, so that they maybe could chat a bit. "You are a second year too?" He asked, not wanting to give the dreaded uncomfortable silence a chance of starting. He loved to talk with people and was known as being an outgoing person. He needed to be more outgoing and less intimidated is what he always told himself and often somw stupid action followed these thoughts, ending with a scolding by whatever adult was close by. Alan sighed with a small chuckle.

The blonde girl let out a hum, listening to the boy speak. He was quite charismatic, she noted, which was good for her, as her tongue was often sewn to the roof of her mouth, cursing her to silence. "I was born in France," she stated the obvious, nodding. "I was taught English first, but I feel as though I speak more French than I do anything else." She confessed. The romantic tongue came to her in times of stress or confusion, or just whenever she was speaking on instinct. It wasn't anything that she could help, really.

Golden locks of hair swung gracefully behind her as she walked in step next to Alan, a small habit she had picked up as a musician. A sea of gold and maroon flooded her eyes, mental flashbacks to the ungodly fight pounding in her head like a bass drum in a pep band; it only got louder, and she fought back to urge to turn around then and there. She could not do that to Alan, not this far into the conversation. She knew the chances of her running into Lilith and Aurelia were slim, and they were probably over it by now anyway. Still, she dreaded the idea of making a bad impression. Alan didn't know her backstory, and would probably turn and run in fear if he did, which wasn't a chance the young girl wanted to take.

Luckily, he spoke up yet again, casting away her negative thoughts as if his voice were a spell. "Ah- yes. I am." She smiled at him, nodding. She followed his lead to a seat, grateful, as her feet were tired. It had been a long day, and sitting was just what she needed.

Alan just nodded slightly, as he offered the young Slytherin student a polite smile. She was nice, was what he thought when he began to think about her personality and behaviour. Well he could not judge that yet, since he barely knew her; they just met after all. But if nothing would proof him to be wrong about that thought he was sure that they could become very good friends. That is what made his smile widen into a toothy grin, that flashed a row of white teeth. Alan's mind began to work as he thought about what he could ask to keep the conversation going as he would not be too fond of an incomfortable silence starting; that would just make things awkward and nobody needed awkwardness when trying to make a new friend. He already had difficulties to make friends so he should not make it worse by something like this.

"But are you in France a lot? Or only occasionally?" He asked curiously as he sat down comfortably at the large table and began to fill up his plate with all the delicious stuff they had. He took care not to dirty the wooden table by making the food drip on it as he piled up the food on the table even though it wasn't that much.

Humming thoughtfully, she pondered on what was true. Her residence never stayed the same, and yes, she had been to France a number of times within the last few years. It would not be a lie if she were to tell Alan that yes, she did frequent there. But it would also not be entirely the truth at the same time. It was complicated; more complications than she would care to break down. One couldn't say "Yes! Baring in mind that my parents are technically criminals and thus our travel is limited to means that only protect our family! But otherwise, absolutely!" That was just a tad too difficult to announce to someone.

So, pursing her lips, she thought of how to phrase her words better. "Oui, I suppose so." She stated in short, laughing a little. "Though, it would be appropriate, as well, to confirm my being to more than one body of land regularly. I have seen the world outside of Europe as well." That was an easier pill for someone to swallow. Convincing enough to appeal to whatever it was they were hoping to hear, truthful enough to keep Alexx from going to Hell for lying (in a hypothetical situation where she believed in Hell, that was).

She had always found herself laying the best path for herself, though "best" seemed to be more like a synonym for "easy" these days. It was easy to tell Alan that she traveled. But it wouldn't be easy to tell him why. So leaving it vague, or, more or less, "watered-down", was her best option. But she did enjoy to travel, despite the limits to where she could go and when. It was fun to explore and see every corner of the earth that she possibly could.

The young Gryffindor would play with the hem of his robes, still slightly nervous about getting to know someone knew. But it was not a bad kind of nervousness like he suffered from during the first year, it was more of a curious one. He wanted to get to know people and this was giving him a perfect opportunity to make a new friends. He was just a little bit nervous to mess this up, which would probably result in him not becoming friends with her. Alexx seemed like a nice person though, so it would be a shame not to make friends with a nice girl like she was.

”Really? That sounds awesome! I have never left Europe but I have visited my aunt and cousins in Germany” He told her with a smile. He would spend more time there now as it seemed though. For a moment a shadow darkened his gaze and he visibly slumped down a bit. He did not want to think about that yet…

With a bit of overly enthusiasm he would grin at her, hoping she did not notice his small slip up. He did not want to make anyone worry just because not everything was going perfect in his life.
