Arysta was at the Great Lake today. There wasn't any true reason for it other than being told she needed fresh air. She had to admit that being out and about in the fresh air. She had taken off her shoes and socks then she rolled her pant cuffs up. She just dangled her legs in. The water was chilly, but it was stimulating.

After spending just thirty minutes out at the lake she started to notice the other students around the lake. Most were talking with their friends, others were reading, and some were taking a nap on the soft green grass surrounding the lake. It was a calm time with cheerful chatter filling the formerly silent air.

Arysta quite enjoyed watching the other students. Not in a creepy way, but she enjoyed seeing people smile. She enjoyed observing what made people happy and how people interact with one another...both the good and bad. She never had much interaction with other kids her age before Hogwarts, aside from the occasional Pureblood balls, parties, and gatherings her parents forced her to attend. While she wanted their attention...that wasn't exactly the kind she wanted.

"It really is quite a strange world." Arysta muttered to herself.

Great Lake
It was a beautiful day outside. Spring had most definitely started to show. Valarie was enjoying sitting by the lake. It was something that kept her mind busy. Most times she had a book but other times she sat without one. Today was a day she sat without a book. She spotted a handful of other students out by the lake. She took her usual spot that sat close enough to the lake she could reach her hand out and touch the deep blue waters of the lake. She didn’t dare touch the waters, judging that the waters would yet be warm enough. She gazed out at the trees in the area. They were all beautiful in their own unique way, just like the trees back in her home located in Glasgow, Scotland. She was sitting close to another girl, a first year, Valarie guessed. Valarie assumed she was a Gryffindor based off of her robes. Valarie didn’t know many Gryffindors. She heard the girl mutter something. Valarie turned her head to face the girl. She stood and walked the few steps over to the girl and sat down beside her.
“Hello! I’m Valarie but you can call me Val. What’s your name?” It was definite that Valarie was different from the shy girl she had been when she first arrived at the school.

Arysta's head looked up from where she sat. She stared at Valarie in with a mix of confusion and happiness. She was a little shocked as she wasn't expecting people to just walk over and talk, however she didn't mind. Her usual friends were inside catching up on some work she'd already finished, so she had no one to spend the beautiful day with. Plus, meeting new people was something she always enjoyed. Like stated before, she likes to know what makes people tick. The best way to get this done is by talking to said people.

"Nice to meet you Val, I'm Arysta. What has you out here during this fine day?"

Arysta's legs slowly stopped moving in the water as she paid attention to the girl talking to her. Instead her hands decided to run over the grass she sat on. It was simply an unconscious action. She was a very energetic girl, so she usually had to be doing something. Whether bouncing her leg or playing with a pencil. Despite this she was very good at retaining information, and could focus on whatever her task was. She was unsure if this was normal, but she didn't quite care to change it.

The girl’s name was Arysta, a name Valarie thought was beautiful.
“It is nice to meet you as well, Arysta. I just like being out here. The weather reminds me of my home, especially in the springtime. What about you? What to you like about being outside?” asked Valarie. Her eyes studied Arysta’s hands run over the grass rather than swing her legs about in the water. Valarie sat down beside the young Gryffindor and dipped her index finger in the water and shivered. Still a bit too cold for her taste but then again, Valarie had jumped in the leg on a freezing December day. She shivered just thinking of how cold she had been. She removed her finger from the water and wiped in on the corner of her shirt. She brushed back a strand of her curly brown hair that wiped around in the wind. She folded her hands neatly in her lap and turned to face Arysta to hear what she had to say about the outdoors. A wave of wind flew through the air and shoved Valarie’s hair more into her face. Valarie sighed and pushed in back again. Her hair always like to cause her trouble. Valarie silently wished she had something to tie back her hair with but it would have to do loose.

Arysta noticed Valarie touch the cold water and quickly retreated her hand. She smiled a bit at the action, finding how quickly Valarie retracted her hand a little humorous. Arysta had always been on the warmer side and often overheated easily, so ice cold baths were something she would do often. She would also enjoy warm, sometimes hot, baths. It just depended on what kind of day it was.

"Oh, not to sound weird, but I enjoy seeing what people do in their free time. How they interact with one another is... interesting and strange. I don't know. I probably sound super creepy," Arysta chuckled nervously. Arysta then noticed how Valarie's hair kept flying into her face and she quickly pushed her hand into her pocket. She searched for a hair tie and as soon as she found on pulled it out from her pocket. She always kept extras around due to her innate ability to lose all her hair ties.

"Here I have some extra hair ties. I always end up breaking or losing mine, so I have tons of extras," Arysta offered. She reached her hand out, with the hair tie held out to Valarie, so she could take it.

Valarie listened intently as Arysta spoke about enjoying watching others. Valarie didn’t think that she was creepy at all and understood the urge to understand others better by watching them.
“No I do not think you sound creepy at all! I enjoy seeing what other like to do as well. Do you come out here often? To the lake, I mean,” asked Valarie. Valarie watched as Arysta reached into her pocket and pulled something out. A hair tie. Valarie smiled and extended her arm to take the hair tie.
“Thank you, Arysta,” said Valarie, extremely grateful for the hair tie. She pulled her hair back with the tie and smiled when her hair stop hitting her in the face.
“So, Arysta, I already know you like watching people but what else do you enjoy doing? I like to read and write. I mostly like muggle books which might seem old especially considering that I am a pure blood but I think muggles are so interesting! My parents think so as well. What do you think about muggles?” Said Valarie, interested in what Arysta had to say about muggles. Valarie’s questions for the Gryffindor were pouring out of her now. Which rarely happen consider how quiet she normally was but Valarie didn’t mind and she hoped Arysta didn’t think her too talkative.

"I do come out here often. Here and the Gryffindor Common Room's window are my favorite places to sit." Arysta answered.

Arysta watched Valarie put on the hairtie and listened to the rambling questions with a smile. It was nice to have someone understand her and talk to... aside from her rambunctious Gryffindor friends.

"Well, I love to explore. There are so many places in the castle that are left untouched and it's interesting. I do love to read muggle book too! I love to learn how they think and what they do without magic. I mean imagine a life without magic, I couldn't imagine that. Plus, their stories of magic are very intriguing. Unfortunately I can't really read them at home though." Arysta said awkwardly.

Despite most of her family's friends being proud pure bloods, as that was the only type her parents would hang out with, she was mostly embarrassed. She didn't like the way her parents talked about muggles and half bloods. The positive side effects of being taken under her grandmother's wing she supposed. After all the only muggle books she ever read were the books her grandmother would bring her. The only stories she'd heard were the stories her grandmother would retell or the adventures her grandmother would frequently go on.

Valarie listened quietly as Arysta explained her love of sitting in the Gryffindor areas and being outdoors. Valarie felt a smile cover her face when Arysta talked about her enjoyment of muggle books.
“Exactly! A life with no magic? It seems rather impossible to think about. I’m glad we both enjoy muggle stories. They are fascinating. I’ve always considered myself lucky that my parents like muggle things as much as I do,” said Valarie with a warm smile.
“I have always wished that my sister would have the same appreciation of muggles and half bloods like the rest of my family does. Perhaps if I was closer with her…,” Valarie’s voice trailed off. Her sister was a sour topic.
“Anyways, what other muggle things to do enjoy? Their books are my favorite part of my collection, but my mother enjoys looking at photos they have taken, it is so odd they don’t move like ours do. My father likes to talk about their books with me. Have you ever seen a muggle movie? I have not, but I would enjoy to see one.” Valarie quickly cut herself off from all her rambling. Valarie didn’t know many that had the same attitude about muggles that she did. This really was a remarkable meeting for Valarie.

"I love the books, so they are definitely a favorite. However, I think a close second would be their candy. I mean we use some of the same ingredients in our magical world, however their candies don't make them float or make smoke come out of their ears. It's so interesting. Just it being sweet is enough for them, and not to mention their varied taste in sweets! I don't think I've ever seen a muggle movie, but my grandmother did a while ago! She said it was like our pictures, moving,
but with added theatrical story. All on one large screen! She also said they could be drawings that move, like...oh what was the movie called? I believe it was the King Lion, or something like that. She said it was made by a man named Disney, apparently he's a very popular movie creator. She said he's made many movies for kids. Or, other movies could be horror themed. But, I don't think Disney ever focused on that scene,"
Arysta cheered.

Man, it had been a while since she was able to talk about muggle inventions with someone. This was definitely not how she expected her day to go, but she was perfectly happy that she met Valarie.

The candy! Valarie definitely had to agree with Arysta.
“Exactly! I do not understand it one bit. If only muggles knew of how wonderful our candy is!” laughed Valarie in agreement. Arysta went on to talk about the movie her grandmother has seen, a muggle film.
“Moving drawings? Well, that sounds interesting! I’ll need to watch that film sometime, it sounds interesting. The King Lion, you said it was?” asked Valarie. Since she had yet to have had the pleasure of seeing one of this muggle movies, she had no doubt her parents would be just as interested as her. The time seemed to fly by quickly. Valarie’s mind came to focus on one detail that made her smile: a fellow muggle-aficionado that was a pure blood. Valarie felt herself beginning to become tired. She did not want to leave but knew if she stayed out in the cold air any longer, she would be exhausted tomorrow. Valarie stood up slowly and looked down at Arysta with a sad smile.
“I should probably head inside, I’m getting a bit cold and tired, I hope you understand. It was nice meeting you, Arysta! I hope we bump into each other soon, not literally of course.” Valarie held up her hand to offer a small wave goodbye as she headed inside.
Valarie has exited the thread
