Okay, well, fine. Fine he got him there but-

So you’re just a less ambitious blockhead of a snake AND dull? Greeaat…

That just meant this particular Slytherin lacked the ambition to excel at this game! Which meant he’d gotten a lazy AND uncreative snake; just his luck, of course he’d gotten the worst of the imaginary lottery. Okay, the worst was a little harsh, Elsian could admit that. Jack didn’t deserve to be called that, it was uncalled for-

SMACK.

The hit of anoTHER SNOWBALL THAT HAD A ROCK IN IT.

HE TOOK IT BACK. HE TOOK IT ALL BACK! JACK WAS THE SQUAREST BLOCKHEAD OF THE BUNCH!

The dullest of them all, lazy, boring unambitious snake who wouldn’t know fun if it grabbed him by his leg and threw him around with the violence enthusiasm of a whomping willow! Not a fun bone in his body, not even a funny bone he was sure, and what a sad existence that was.

Yes, so sad; Elsian totally didn’t take a sick amount of joy in dragging the miserable boy through the snow and piles of heavy gifts. No. Not at all. Anyone who said otherwise was a lying liar on a throne of lies. Like Jack.

Elsian contemplated the lead up to his journey here, his life choices, the people he could possibly blame for being this way. Wondering if maybe this was possibly 1 of many signs, warnings even, that perhaps he needed to wise up, change his ways. He’d gotten lucky, not much worse than bruising, mostly on his side where he’d smacked down into the snow full speed but…were his ideas really that dangerous?

….

No that couldn’t possibly be it.

Maybe a spell like Jack said to make it easier, perhaps a helmet or some gear and the game would be 10x’s better. Like sooo much better, Elsi could already envision it! Also Jack sucked at being on sled duty so there was that.

He shivered, gingerly pressing his fingers against his arm before pulling back with a hiss. Bruises still hurt though.

Looking towards Jack he shrugged warily with a grin, wondering again if perhaps his so called 9 lives had finally run out. “...If I say no, are you going to try and kill me?” he said dryly, only half joking as he dug out a galleon from his pocket. He had to have one somewhere right? Plus if there was 1 thing he’d learned from hitting Elena with a couch that one time it was that there was at least a 75% chance for violent revenge and pity prizes tended to help curve the murderous part of peoples rage.

Because-” He stopped, looking up from his digging, a shiny galleon clutched in his palm as laughed. Oh that was good. Maybe. He threw caution to the wind and relaxed, not bothering to hide the pleased snicker at this whole little…adventure.

Okay, I deserve that.” He agreed easily with a laugh, “but c’mon! It was at least a little fun right?’ He teased, waving away the others worries, “but fine, I won’t try dragging you on anymore amazing sledding adventures.

Ah yes, Jack had won though hadn’t he.

Ugh, I can’t believe you actually won that bet.” The boy grumbled without heat, walking over the last steps to hand over the shiny coin as he began to go for his broom, “I thought for sure you’d fall off first.” That last part was quieter, but just loud enough to still hear as he craned up his neck to grab his-

Oh yeah, he’d forgotten…his broom was totally stuck in the snowbank.

Aw man,” he groaned, throwing his hands up into the air and begrudgingly began to try scaling the stupid, half destroyed snow bank wall thing. He shrieked when icy fingers pulled back his jacket and cold, wet, horrible snow went down the back of his shirt! He fumbled, hand wildly smacking out at Jack in an attempt to fight off the other but all Elsian succeeded in doing was slipping and smacking into the snowy ground with a yelp and dull thud as he childishly smacked at cold fingers and then from the ground at Jacks shoes. “You ass!” He cried, flinging a handful of snow at the other boy's legs, “what type of sick betrayal is this! By my 1st sled tester! And after I gave you your pity galleon.

With a shiver he flipped the other off from the ground, scowling in an attempt to not laugh as he shook out his jacket. “Getting me while my back was turned... Fight me like a man!” Another handful of snow thrown at Jack's head in a lazy arc.

...If I say no, are you going to try and kill me?

"Well, what do you know? You do have some brains after all," Jack replied, unable to stop a grin from creeping across his face. He had noticed the hiss the Gryffindor had made when he pressed his fingers against his arm, though, so Jack guessed Elsian was about as banged up as he was. He didn't look like he'd suffered any serious injuries, however, so that was good.

When the Welsh boy noticed the English one digging through his pocket for something, he raised a brow until Elsian pulled out a shining galleon. Huh. He hadn't thought he would have actually given him a galleon. But Jack shook his head. "Keep it. I never really even agreed to that bet in the first place anyway."

His peer asked him if the whole event was at least a little fun and Jack sighed. "I...guess. If you like nearly dying. Which it seems you do!" Though Elsian assured him he wouldn't try dragging him on any more 'amazing sledding adventures', that didn't entirely put Jack at ease. After all, there were plenty of other dangerous things the lion could have had in mind for the future.

"Were you hoping I would fall off? And I mean before you started throwing stuff at me, because it was obvious you wanted me to fall off then."

It was when Elsian began to try to climb what was left of the snow bank that Jack struck, causing his target to shriek, fumble, and smack at him. The Slytherin couldn't help laughing then, taking a step back as Elsian slipped and fell on the ground with a yelp before smacking at his hands and shoes. He was still laughing when the other boy flung some snow at his legs, putting his arms up to shield himself from any that might have reached his face.

"I don't need your pity galleon!" he snickered, reaching out to offer a hand to help Elsian up. But the Gryffindor flipped him off and shook out his jacket before throwing another handful of snow at Jack's head. The Slytherin yelped himself that time, not having expected another attack of snow.

"We're already all beat up and you still want to fight?" he asked, brushing the snow off his face. "You really are something else. How about we go see the nurse instead to do something about all these bruises?" He glanced back at the snow drift that had swallowed up Elsian's broom and sled. "Come on. I'll help you get your stuff out first. It's going to be a long walk back up to the castle, though..." Especially with how sore he already was.

He grumbled with all the petulance of a child blind to the error of his ways. “Still more brains than you.

He was a creature of whims. Lazy and with a fearlessness that would possibly kill him someday…

But today was nOT THAT DAY!!!

His whimsical and dangerous thought process would live to see another day.

The other shrugged, pocketing the coin with a grin and raised brow. Half the fun of these sorts of bets were the reactions you got, the rush- if the other wanted to bow out of his rightful prize and bragging rights, who was he to say anything? Elsi sure as heck wasn’t about to complain. A galleon was a galleon, and this galleon was one more he could put towards future horrible choices based on his whims and waning attention.

Pleased, smug, undeniably going to make Jack regret those words one day. These were a few ways to describe the air about the Gryffindor at the Slytherins admittance; a true travesty. “But you had fun~” He goaded, dragging out the words obnoxiously. “And it wasn’t that bad,” he began, pausing in his quest for his broom. He pinched his fingers together, “it was only a little bit of danger~

It was true too! At least in his mind.

And that- hnn…had he hoped the other would fall off? Well maybe not at first, not entirely anyways. But after? Oh yeah, definitely. That first present to the head might as well have been a declaration of war. “No…” It was a shifty answer at best, with a shifty sort of tone. “Okay, well not in a bad way!

Not at first anyways.

I thought you’d like- harmlessly tumble into a snow drift when we went down a hill. Or just slip off the sled when I first took off at the top of the hill,” he snickered.

But you didn’t. Oh no, you just had to prove me wrong and THROW the bloody boxes didn’t you?” From anyone else it might’ve been said in annoyance or anger, sounded like a complaint, but Elsian only sounded begrudgingly impressed and slightly thoughtful. Something like excitement entering his eyes the longer he thought. “I hadn’t thought about that, y'know. Throwing the gifts that is.” A pause as he looked at his broom from its spot stuck in the snow. “Now that’s an idea! I should add that…and maybe a better grip like you said…

Betrayal felt cold and wet apparently. Numbing his fingers and toes, he wiggled them from his newfound sprawl on the ground, fighting coming to a standstill. He sniffed at Jack haughtily as he wiped the snow from his face. Oh he was something else alright, determined for one, and extremely petty for another.

The question of was it worth it to start a fight being a very real consideration. Elsi contemplated it from his spot in the snow, he really did; the thought became increasingly tempting when Jack looked away towards the snow drift. But, painful as it was to admit, he was right. They were both at least a little beat up and quite frankly Elsian was already feeling rather tired despite, or perhaps because, of the cold seeping past his clothes.

Okay,” he sighed, sitting up.

He didn’t fancy the fun already ending, but perhaps there was wisdom in quitting while ahead. Besides, he could always try again later.

As long as you don’t betray me again while up there.” He joked, not bothering to dust off the snow as he got up, ready to begin his 2nd attempt at scaling the mess of snow and ice.
