Hexwizard Task 1: Hogwarts v Koldovstoretz

Kings

Rodion (@Aurora Ranvier) was immortal from the looks of it. Most of their allies taken down and for whatever reason Hogwarts had not been able to pin down the Koldov champion. He had no more fight in him (Rodion took no action).

@Dealla Prince, the Hogwarts King, also did nothing. Action economy to spare perhaps as Howard White rushed in front of her with Rapid Defense. Howard would not know it, but he avoided an attack just then from Kamila. (Dee took no action).

Rooks

Rooks were rare at this point, chariot driven defenders Percival and Oksana were both unconscious and had been for some time. Maksim Levin (@Monica Evans) was waning in strength. Maksim would rush over to Kamila's side, bounding in front of her. He would defend her, likely aware of the incredible risk he took in doing so. They were going to take her down, even if they had to go through him.

Maksim uses Rapid Defense on Kamila.

@Howard White, the Hogwarts champion was standing on the backlines as the rest of his team stood on the forefront. Their line of defense was still intact and from the relative safety of the backlines he would watch the scenario play out. Perhaps he did it to save his own backside. Perhaps he did it to get a better vantage point if the team was left standing. It did not matter as he rushed in front of Dealla.

Bishop

Invocation: Capable of blasting a target at a distance. This can move through allied (but not enemy) spaces on a diagonal. Arcane Power x 25.

Benediction: Using their Stamina they are able to bestow healing upon an allied target. Stamina x 20. The target must be adjacent and on a diagonal.

@Alan Vanes was one hard to hit Gryffindor, it would take a lot to take the teen down. The practiced duellist was well-prepared for this fight it would seem. He would identify a target now that Opeila is out of danger, Maksim the steadfast defender of Koldovstoretz. They were difficult and durable but the metamorphmagus held one heck of a punch when it hit. His previous attempt to down the teen ended in failure but he had another opportunity if he acted quickly.

Only, Maksim moved away quickly. That Rapid Defense seemed to really trip them up, but in this case it might prove to be Maksim's undoing. Maksim would rush in front of Kamila before Alan was able to let off the attack, but he was still in range.Alan would simply turn around and see the boy standing right there in front of him and he would let off the attack.

Alan cast Invocation on Maksim.

It did not matter, Alan was not particularly accurate. Outside of Dealla's aura, Alan would let off the rapid fire attack and miss the exhausted Maksim.

@Serena Towers was definitely a pacifist. If there was ever any inclination that she was a fighter under this thin veneer of 'niceness', they could rest assured now that she probably did not know how to even make a fist. Serena was the party healer.

She would reach out and grant Pericles more healing, not that he was in dire need but one could always use "more."

Kamila Yavlinsky (@Marina Oriel) was going to make Howard regret leading this school to disaster. Prepared to cast an invocation in his direction, having traversed the back lines to the point where she had a clear shot, she would have savored this moment. Maksim shot in front of her, and in a blink of an eye Howard was gone. He had moved (using Rapid Defense) adjacent to Dealla and out of range. So his attention would be diverted to other targets (victims) as she eyed Pericles, the enemy Queen and one of the most powerful pieces on the board.

Knight

@Bloom Silverton made no action. The fallen at her feet. She had nothing to do but look pretty and get healed by Serena.

@Opeila Winters was in range of the enemy champion and king, Rodion. He did not have much left and those last moments were going to feel like an eternity if the girl hit her mark.

It was a clean shot. An opportunity to end it all while more than half her team did either nothing or healed. It could have ended this then and there, but Rodion was agile. Rodion was truly immortal.

Queen

Their last hope was their Queen @Pericles Dralt. It was terrible ambitious to believe that a single attack being cast on the champion would end this game. Pericles was not going to attempt to snipe one of the Koldovstoretz students. He recast his dark rebuke and the caustic miasma would flow from the hem of his skirt.

Peri casts Rebuke

On movement, Pericles would make a move for the same space as Rodion. Potentially Rodion's undoing. This game was reduced to a test of brawn as Pericles tried to overpower the enemy King.

Pericles was not much of a jock, but he was able to overpower Rodion and hove him back to the space he had just vacated. Rodion would stumble back, the dark miasma choking him as he stumbled back.

Pericles Dralt was on the warpath. Bolstered by Serena's well-timed heal, he rushed Rodion as the dark miasma renewed, billowing and swirling with each pounding step of combat boots. Though the grim gown might have seemed impractical, he made the most of it: Kamila's attack was avoided by power sliding, a drop to his knees coupling with the sleek fabric for a gliding dodge. Just like that, he was back on his feet in time to go head-to-head with the Koldovstoretz Champion. In an uncharacteristic display of animosity, he gripped the scepter in both hands, shoving him hard from the contested square. No you don't. They circled the King like a pack of wolves, a thick bead of sweat tracing its way down the pale lad's temple. This was their chance to reign in Hogwarts' first triumph.

Howard looked over the battle field as his troops began to surround the enemy King, but it was getting harder to see as the action moved to the other side of the board. For the first time in the entire match he would risk moving forward with the Rapid Defense maneuver. There was no clear line of sight for his attackers except for Opeila, who unfortunately could not land the final blow on Koldov's King, but he didn't fret. With another command his fellow Hogwartians would surround Rodion. Perhaps this was it. All the strategy and quick action had boiled down to these final moments. Could Howard and his team finally end this hard fought battle? He shouted what was hopefully his final command, but he stayed cautious nonetheless. Team Koldovstoretz had fought tooth and nail. Even with their advantage Hogwarts had struggled to finish this thing, but neither would back down until the biter end.

There. There it was! Her first chance at a shot, and a final shot at that! Opeila focused on the boy once again casting eagle eye- and missed. She missed her chance! Opeila blinked as the boy moved out of the way with a speed she had not expected. "Come on now, you're just dragging it out!"

Could this be it? The moment they had been waiting for all this time? The Hogwarts team had defeated quite a bit of Koldovstoretzes crew over the past rounds. It felt surreal to know that light was beaming at the end of the tunnel and it was a winning flag. Bloom was excited but held in that feeling, not wanting to jinx the moment. Now was the moment if Bloom would continue to stand there and look pretty for her Rook, or would actually have a chance to do something. Bloom waited for Howard's strategy.

Legs felt hollow, breath becoming staggered. He hated to admit it, but the young wizard was in fact... tired. How much longer could this possibly go on for? Honestly! The fact that the Russians were still in this should be proving to everyone how incapable Hogwarts was at training wizards and witches... had Maksim's team had half the advantage, the match would have been long over. But here they stood, in the lull, not a lot of options, and yet still in this game. "Pathetic!" He called out, not caring if his words were even heard. Things might look grim with Rodion surrounded, but honestly, if Hogwarts couldn't finish things off here, they might as well just quit.

Dee sighed, almost missing her cue to take another step forward, and shifted into another unit on the board with a few seconds delay. Her fancy outfit had lost its charm several rounds ago, as had the toxic purple fog still billowing around her. Really, if she had the chance at a do-over, she'd pick a more interesting position to play. One that actually let her attack. How were these kids still standing? How long was it going to take her team mates to finally land a solid hit on Rodion and end this? It couldn't be that hard. Maybe the universe would show mercy and a big boulder would drop on the kid to knock him out. Or an animal would show up to eat him. Maybe a bear. Hey, she knew a bear! Perhaps Ami would be inclined to help?

In that moment, he was in the corner of the board. Both metaphorically and literally. He was cornered by the Hogwarts people as if he were just a kid being bullied by his classmates. He felt powerless and alone, with no one to turn to. He felt as if his life had been leading up to this moment, but he wasn't sure how to get out of it. He was desperate for a way out. This battle shouldn't have happened in the first place. A bunch of upperclassmen versus babies. What was he thinking? At this point his father would think it was the right decision to disown him.

There was no hesitation in her actions for her actions were all for the greater good of the team, at this point in time. At the very least, this was when she realised that her days and time spent as a healer intern were really paying off. She was better at this than she thought she would be. Maybe she should become a healer. It was looking more and more appealing by the second. It was a far better way to live than to be a fighter - at least for her mental health. But there was something equally satisfying about bashing metal with swings of her oversized hammer that looked far too big for her to even be able to hold.

For such a small noodle-arm girl, it was probably weird seeing her in a forge. Not that many people did but the thought probably never really crossed people's minds. They likely saw the armour she donned but they probably thought she had bought it from someone, rather than making it. No way someone so small could mould metal in such a way, surely? Yes. Serena looked like she played the part of a healer much better. It suited her. She was not on the front line of any battle. She was the support character in the back, keeping them up.

This priestly bishop garb, however, was a little bit big for her. The giant hat, the flappy sleeves and the large robe... they were not her whole aesthetic. Hm. Maybe she could be a healer who donned armour. Were those things? If so, she wanted to be one!
