Well this was quite unexpected... I glanced over to the snitch given to me by Valentin entrapped in its little jar as I tapped the corner of the letter that had just come for me this morning. I supposed it was Valentine's day, that the date perhaps had some significance for Val... but I had been taken extremely aback by the sudden and straightforward confession that had been enclosed inside this very simple stationary of light blue that was indeed his staple.

But maybe... it was true?

Ach, damn me for having such optimistic thoughts... but was it at all possible? I mean, I supposed we had gotten to be rather close over the course of the last year, but was it possible to consider it to be that close?

Absentmindedly I lightly click my teeth on my thumbnail as my brow creases in consideration. If this was true... why had it taken so long to, well, come out with it? Had I actually been the one causing the strange, almost uncomfortable avoidance between myself and my Captain? And then of course there was the matter of the Mahoutakoro boy...

No... If anything that proved that Valentin didn't really feel that way towards me, that he was able to find what he needed out of a partner in someone else. We were an excellent duo, to be sure... but that was as far as I was willing to believe that it went. We were excellent captains, we cared for our team... but I couldn't believe that the relationship went any deeper than that, that it should go any deeper than that.

So why did I place this letter alongside the jar-confined snitch, a jar that contained countless tiny notes inside that I figured Valentin must have slipped into there while I was gone? They were notes that I never dared to try and collect; for fear that the Snitch would flit away forever before I could nab it... my eyesight was not as good as Valentin's... I doubted that I could spot the thing before it ended up kilometers away never to be seen again. I supposed that those notes would remain secret for as long as I wanted to make sure that little golden ball didn't escape... and this new letter went up there alongside all the other trinkets that had come from Valentin in some way, shape, or form.

That afternoon, I composed my response and sent it by way of the barn owl again...

I had no way of knowing that I would get another letter from Valentin not too long after I had sent my response. Curiouser and curiouser.

I just hope I wasn't making a mistake by writing anything that I wrote...

Valentine's Day is indeed a special time of year. Though I find little more use for it other than indulging in slightly nicer chocolates than usual and being able to look at all the gorgeous flowers... I do suppose that you would be right in saying that this time of year is especially important in that we must use this time to be thankful for the ones that we do love and cherish most. It really helps to put everything into perspective.

If you really do want to spend more time with me, then don't hesitate to do so. Just knock on my door or something; just talk to me if you ever need to talk. I don't think I can ever emphasize that enough. If we are going to continue being captains, we should not be afraid to be open and honest with each other ever. If you need my support, you have it. All you have to do is ask, alright?

Maybe we should go to Hogsmeade. It would certainly be pleasant. If you do want to speak one on one, I'm more than sure that the rest of the team can find something to amuse themselves with. Jojo and Cielle certainly like causing havoc together, after all. Otherwise, having the Quidditch team together or simply having the Horde along for the ride would certainly pose an excellent opportunity for team bonding. Simply let me know what day is best for you.

The orchestrator of this little ploy, one Piérre Marchonné, eagerly ripped open the letter that he had gotten from his sibling. Reading the letter once, then twice, the imp grinned to himself; it was a devilish smile that curled from ear to ear in such a cunning way that one would have thought that he had just stole the Royal Jewels from right under the noses of all the beefeaters that the castle could have ever possibly mustered to stop him.

Though he knew that his brother was very socially reserved, Piérre also knew that there were many written tells in his sibling's writings that could be used as dead giveaways of how the taller twin both felt and thought of his circumstances. It was odd, though, the fact that his brother wrote here in English to Valentin even though Valentin's initial letter to him had been in Russian... perhaps there was something that could be said was going on insofar as how well Piérre had Valentin convinced that his letter was indeed a real correspondence from the Italian beater.

Either he had had the white seeker, or he didn't... but maybe if he could trap his brother's attentions and interests, there was a chance that he could get to Valentin as well.

Well... Piérre had to try for it, anyways.

Quickly, write something together, send it out quickly. Snag the fish before it could swim away. If the bait was good enough, then he would be hooked for good.

You will have to show us around Hogsmeade, but perhaps a weekend would be nice. How about the 22nd of April when we arrive at Hogwarts?

Romeo would receive the letter, and a day or two later, Piérre had his answer. In so many words, he grinned-- Romeo had finally acquiesced to the request, and he seemed none the wiser. Piérre folded the letter and tucked it into his bottomless satchel.

One half was convinced. As far as he could tell, Valentin was at least intrigued enough to be on board. The date was set for April 22nd. Piérre was ready, Piérre was always ready. He had a plan, and what a beautiful plan it was. He simply had to be ready to spring it into action at any moment. He had one shot, one shot only...

He had to make it count.
