Anti socialness, with a Dose of Anxiety
Near sighed, chiding himself for being such a coward. Even though his Ravenclaw clothes fit perfectly, he couldn't help but feel they were too tight, too restrictive. He would have to get used to that. He adjusted his collar again, gulping. He was not used to so many kids, all bustling around like they had someplace to be.....somewhere they knew they needed to go. He nervously fiddles with his white hair, grabbing a large stack of books. Who ever said avoidance wasn't the way to go.?
He freezes, thinking he saw a shadow in the corner of his eye, watching him. But he turned around, and took a deep breath, knowing nothing was there. That Shadow had been stalking him ever since he arrived, watching him. But he knew, it was all in his head. So why did it feel so real?
The Library was always his safe space, where he could bury himself in hundreds of stories, and not ever have to deal with people, or anything at all, to be specific. Why couldn't Mother just let me go home..? Even among people like me I don't fit in......I can't even begin to try...
He sighs again. So many thoughts constantly bashing against his skull, he's getting a headache again. He takes a deep breath, bringing the large stack of books on the table, and preparing himself for comfort. He is startled from his reading, as he sees another student enter the Library, his comfort is popped, and his nerves start seizing his mind. He winces, trying to keep himself from revealing his discomfort.
should i go talk to them..? No, what am i thinking.....it would be best to wait until they leave......but we could be friends.....no, i can barely form sentences in my mind around anyone...let alone another person... he shrinks uncomfortably in his seat, hiding his pale face with his book, trying not to stare rudely at the new person.

Scarlett entered the library with a small warm smile. She almost immediately ran to the mystery and fairytale novels, she had to check if there was any new books or any books she hadn't read yet. After a few minutes she decided on five very large books to check out. All the books she had checked out had one thing in common, they all included a shy, young girl like herself. She didn't like main girl characters who were brave and outgoing because that meant she had yet another person who was better than her. She really needed to believe in herself more.
She skimmed through the pages of the books for a bit and decided that they were all great books so far. She stood up from the small chair she was sitting in and picked up her books. All of them combined was a bit heavy but she would manage. She started walking to the checkout desk nervously. Most faces from, Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and even her own house, Hufflepuff turned to face her. She blushed at all of the attention. She was one of the girls who like to hide in the shadows, not one to be stared at- even though tons of people did.
Whenever Scarlett was walking in the hallways she could hear people whisper things about her. The negative ones were usually, "Why is she so quiet" or "I heard she reads more than 2 hours a day." Which were both true, but why did they have to tell her? She already knew about herself better than anyone else in the world. The positive ones she heard were, "She is so pretty." and "I want to be her friend."
She was so self conscious she didn't think she was pretty at all even if people said she were.
Not paying attention to the world around her, she bumped into Near accidentally. Her books fell to the floor with a bang and now, most definitely all eyes would be on them.

"Ack! Oh- o-oh m-my gosh- I-i'm so sorry-" He muttered apologetically, bowing nervously. I can't believe im such a klutz! And to bump into such a pretty girl like her- why am i such a screwup! He helps her by picking up her books, barely able to lift them. He places them delicately on the table, checking the titles. most of these books.....they're all Fantasy- with Female main characters.....I-I really like these books..... He nervously half-smiles, re-straightening his tie and running his hands through his white hair nervously. "I-im s-so sorry-.....T-that was totally m-my fault- I'm so sorry" He continued to apologize, getting smaller and smaller as he could feel people's eyes on them.
His red eyes looked up, and he was in awe for a moment. she is.....shes.....really....pretty.. his face turns slightly red, as he quickly looks away, nervously eying the other students staring at them. He was extremely nervous, his palms sweaty and he was slightly shaking. Like her, he also preferred to not be stared at, and liked being a background character. "I-Im Near..." He mumbled. once again, I suck at introductions.....but- she does have a good taste in books... He tries half-heartedly to wipe off her books, staring at the ground so he could avoid the Students' eyes.

Oh my gosh. I am so sorry- this isn’t your fault, it’s mine. I couldn’t see where I was going with all of these books.” She says, blaming the whole situation on herself. She pushed her hair behind her ear, like she always did when she was nervous. Then she kneeled down to the floor. Before she even touched the floor, Near had picked up all of the books and had already put them on a table. “You didn’t need to do that.” She says with a small quiet smile. “Thank you.” She said quietly.
She noticed the nervousness in the boy’s eyes. He was probably as scared of the spotlight as she was. “Perhaps we should move this conversation- well elsewhere? You know maybe in the dark area of the library, at the back?” She said shyly. “I think they have lamps over there too. We can read there.”
She looked at the boy’s robes. Ravenclaw. She thought. The Wise, The Clever, and The Witty. She looked at Near closely after letting her hair fall over her eyes. He looked more wise and clever than witty. Of course she didn’t really know about his personality yet, she had just met him. She thought about her own house, Hufflepuff. Loyal, kind and patient. The question was, did she really fit that description? Mostly yes. She also had a couple of the traits from Ravenclaw too, clever and creative. She really had no idea why the sorting hat chose her for Hufflepuff rather than Ravenclaw.

He nods, too nervous to talk very much. He glances up through his hair briefly, noting her robes. So shes a Hufflepuff.....could explain why she actually wants to talk to me- not even the other Ravenclaws think of me as one of their own- more like the annoying stray that, besides their better judgement, was sorted into their house, and now they have to look after me.. He flinches slightly, uncomfortable with the subject. He would fit in eventually...right?
He glanced again at her, and quickly downward, busying himself with his hair, twitching slightly. He was getting a headache again.... "Y-yeah......I-I don't like staring..." He says softly. She seemed very pretty...but there was always something deeper in someone, some things that are not always revealed from a single meeting.
I can't help but wonder.....is she only being nice to me because she feels obligated to? Like the rest of the Ravenclaws? They could obviously sense there was something wrong with me- so why isn't she avoiding me like everyone else..? Maybe we could even be friends.....no, Near, calm yourself. Jacob would always act like this too, back at home. Figure out what her motive is first. She's got to be more than just a friendly.....pretty....nice face. He is a bit wary now, as the Voices warn him against her, but she was the only student willing to talk to him after all....
He quickly picks up most of his large stack of books, almost twice as large as he was, though he was pretty small. He scooped the rest of them into his bag. Mainly Fantasy books, like hers, Mystical Creatures Books, Potionmaking, anything to do with magical creatures of the unknown world. Being a Half-Blood, he was aware of both the Muggle and Wizarding world, it was always his norm. But fully being submerged into the magical world...he wanted to know everything about the Creatures hiding just out of his peripheral vision. He scratched the old scars below his shirt absentmindedly, wondering just how much he didnt know, before he had to force his mind to focus again. right. Staring people, pretty Hufflepuff, new seats. Got it.
He again saw the dark shadow of a person watching him, it's red eyes as bright as his were, but he ignored them as he walked over to the spot the girl had mentioned, away from prying eyes. she was right, he realized. it is a lot more private back here. He just realized he probably shouldn't be in a private area with a girl he just met.....but whatever. He wondered if she was as fascinated about Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them as he was. He sat down meekly, placing his abnormally large stack of books on the table, shyly beckoning for her to join him as he softly smiles. unable to meet her pretty gaze. He was pretty nice-looking hiimself, he supposed, but it wasn't the dashing, masculine faces that he saw most girls swoon over. He looked like a ghost that had died like one of those guys, but had been frozen in time as a child. Again, he had to refocus his mind on the interesting girl, observing her quietly.

She walks over to the tables in the back, carrying the heavy stack of books in her hands. She accidently slams them onto the table loudly. She looks at Near, "Sorry." She mumbles. She turned on a few lamps in the area since it was pretty dark there.
"My name is- um. My name is S-Scarlett." She looks up, placing her hair behind her ear once again. "I see your in Ravenclaw? How is it?" She asks. She wondered if Ravenclaw was any better than Hufflepuff. Hufflepuff wasn't bad or anything- she was just wondering if anything was different. She liked Hufflepuff because people in her house weren't always in other's business. Usually, people would leave her alone. Every once in a while, people would say hello or how are you. That was fine, as long as they didn't ask her too many questions. Too many questions overwhelmed her.
She thought that it was probably the same for Near. She would probably die if she had gotten sorted in Gryffindor. Everybody would be seeking adventure and looking for groups of friends. And don't even get started about Slytherin. She wouldn't survive a day.
I guess Hufflepuff might have been the best house for me anyway.

He jumps slightly as she accidentally slams her books on the table, but relaxes a bit more when he realizes that she was very quiet. She's just like me......what a relief. I normally thought Hufflepuffs were.....a bit pushy...not like Gryffindor, of course. I try to avoid THOSE people as much as possible. Too...loud.
He realized that she had said something, and he hadn't been paying attention. Gosh dangit Near, focus for God's sake! He got very embarrassed, until he realized she was asking about his house. Ravenclaws. She really wants to know....They're smart enough to avoid me too. Something she hasn't picked up on yet, i suppose. He would try to take advantage of the fact that she was engagin in a conversation with him, if only he could talk actual grammar once in a while....

Aside the fact she had a popular older sister, Elaine, with her in the muggle world, she never really was fit in either. Her sister somehow fit in effortlessly while as Scarlett tried to hard to fit in. She had had this conversation with her sister many times before, and Elaine had always told her to just be herself. Yeah... being myself earns me tons of friends. She thought bitterly.
Wait... Near was shy like her, and as they had established already, they both didn’t like the spotlight... Could she have maybe found herself a friend? Scarlett...Stop thinking nonsense. You never get friends...He is probably like the other kids.... But what if he wasn’t? She always imagined having a friend... But never would she have thought it would become a reality. How would she even act around friends?
Ugh. Stop thinking about this Scarlett, you are freaking yourself out.
"Oh that's cool... I guess." She mumbled.
Stop mumbling... "So I guess Ravenclaw's common room looks like a bird's nest? Hufflepuff's looks like a bunch of different shades of yellow mixed together and painted their color onto the walls." She said smiling a bit. She looks at Near out of the corner of her eye since she was facing away from him before. "Are you cold?" She asked "We can go outside, it's pretty warm."

He is slightly taken aback, but then he bursts into a fit of giggles. "im so sorry- This is so rude of me- please forgive-" He says between his giggling. It had never occurred to him that maybe the Ravenclaw dormitory would be a lot more interesting if it was themed like an actual bird's nesting grounds.
"Im so sorry, that was so rude of me- It's just..." He giggles once more quietly, his face bright. It was the first time he'd laughed since he had arrived. "I think the Ravenclaw area would actually be so much more interesting if it was nest-themed!" He chirped. what a splendidly amazing idea....then we could all sleep in nests, and I would actually get to feel what it was like to be a bird!
The cold feeling that was plaguing him was gone, just as suddenly as it had appeared, and he realized it was only part of the inner workings of his mind. Again.

"That's a very creative Idea, I wonder if they could use magic to enchant the dormitories to actually seem like a bird habitat as well! Imagine the entire ecosystem we could have, right at our fingertips!" He realized he was rambling on about his passions again, and promptly shut his mouth, his beaming smile turning into more of a small, shy one. "Or...something like that I guess..." He mutters, trying to cover his small outburst with a little dignity. He was passionate about animals, as most of his books were on Magical Creatures.

She blushes, looking down, embarrassed at the fact that she had said something wrong. She then realized that the young man was not going to tease or shame her about it. She looked up at him again. "That sounds so creative. I really like magical creatures. My mother went to a reserve with all types of magical creatures and taught me about them, she's sort of an expert on them actually. I think you'd like her." She says thinking about her strawberry blonde mother.
She saw Near stop talking about his ideas. "I don't mind" She says smiling. "Tell me more about your ideas. Maybe you can convince someone to make your common room more nest-like. I have many ideas to make the school a lot better." She says. "But people don't usually listen to me." She says looking down again.
"I mean...who would listen to me anyway? It's not like I have any friends or anything... Do you have any friends? I bet Ravenclaw is one of the most friendly houses- along with Hufflepuff of course.
