Li was uneasy. Why? Because he was in a new environment where he didn't know anyone around him. While he knew he would be fine, he couldn't help but wonder if he would be able to meet anyone. He was shy, people back home could usually barely hear him, so how was he supposed to make friends in a new and strange place? He almost wished her were home, but at the same time, if he were, he wouldn't be sitting out beside a beautiful lake now.

Quiet contemplation and thought had always been the shy eleven-year-old's style, though he didn't quite understand what that exactly meant. His mother had always told him it meant he was a good, thoughtful listener, but the other kids at his old school said it was weird. He didn't mind it though, it juste meant he could observe the world around him.

A soft breeze blew fluffy dark hair about his face, and he tugged his robes tight around his little body to fend off the sudden rush of cold. He'd always wanted to go off somewhere warm and sunny, but he doubted he would have the chance. He would likely wind up staying in London, but he knew he wouldn't mind.

Looking out over the water, Li shut his eyes, taking in a deep breath before he pulled his knees up to his chest, settling into his spot on the ground and wrapping his arms around himself. It was beautiful, he couldn't deny that. He only wished he had a companion, a cat, or a phoenix (he'd heard those were cool), or even a human companion. Anyone to talk to, weather they would understand him or not, would suffice.

Any presence was a cure for loneliness.

Ember grinned, incapable of having any other expression with that happiness bubbling up inside her.
It was still during her first few days at Hogwarts; she hadn't yet got used to the castle and to being here which didn't have to be a bad thing. In fact, it made her wake up every morning with surprise and with ecstasy flooding through her instead of having already included the beautiful school into boring daily life.
One of the places the young witch liked most was the Great Lake. Sometimes in the early morning, when she couldn't sleep and the Ravenclaw common room still lay quiet, she left the castle, ran down over the hills and meadows towards the lake, its surface excitedly rippling in the breeze as if waiting for her. It was what the young girl did today.
Freedom, that was the best word she could use to describe it, she thought. She never plaited her hair when she went here, just to feel it flowing behind her in a big red mass. Her feet lightly hit the dew-wet grass, again and again until suddenly there was a change in her step and after a few more metres, she stopped abruptly.
The lake and its surrounding area were usually empty this early. Undisturbed. Peaceful. She wasn't sure if she could have felt the same if a bunch of stupid people were splashing around or giggling at her or whatever. Though that boy sitting there was only one person... but still.
Ember tried to remember where she had seen his face before. Big brown eyes were looking at the lake, they had apparently not found her yet. Wavy hair flapped around his face, its fluffy look seemed rather peculiar on the otherwise quite small boy. As soon as she came near enough to discover the Gryffindor emblem on his robes, it sprang to her mind. She had seen him at the Sorting Ceremony a few days ago, same as about any other first-year. He had shivered a little when he went up to the Sorting Hat, anxiously looking at the crowd as if he didn't want their attention.

OOC: I'm sorry if that's already godmodding; I can edit it, I was just searching for an explanation where my char had seen Li before.
Ember decided to get to know him a bit more, beyond his face.
She smiled widely, walking up to him with the confidence that usually accompanied her, stopping a few feet in front of him - what was his name again... Li - Boles? Poems? No, "Poems" wasn't even a last name. She shook her head, this movement accompanied by an eye roll. She didn't need to know that for a small conversation, Li would be enough. She cleared her throat, still smiling.
"Hi, Li..." She carefully clutched her robes as not to make them untidy as she sat down next to him. "I'm not sure if you remember my name... from the Sorting Ceremony... that was quite a lot of students, your name kinda stuck, but I don't remember everyone's. Well, I'm Ember. Ember Jones. I already know who you are, so - how are you?" She smiled again, trying to encourage the shy Gryffindor.

OOC: Don't worry one bit!

The quiet morning had been one he'd been looking forward to, but of course, Silences are always eventually broken, so he really shouldn't have been shocked to hear someone's voice behind him. Of course, he was anyway, and he jumped a bit, eyes going wide. He recognized the girl's face from the ceremony, but he couldn't place her name. So, when she spoke, told him what it was, he almost looked relieved. Asking was always so humiliating!
"I'm Li Holmes..But..Ah, goodness, you already knew that, I'm sorry, Ember.." he whispered, looking down. The slight breeze was almost enough to drown out the sound of his voice, he was sure of it, but thankfully, it hadn't.
He'd barely said a thing to the Ravenclaw, and already, his hands were shaking, and he looked almost terrified. He didn't want to let her see that though, he was supposed to be brave, not nervous like this! "I ah...I'm alright, and you?" He asked, tilting his head. He needed to get himself under control, needed to calm himself down, even if only a bit. If only Poppy were here, he was always so much calmer with the corgi curled up in his lap. His mother had used to tell him he could speak for hours if he had her with him.

Li jumped as she approached him, and she bit her lip in anger. Why couldn't she have been a bit more careful? Run up to the shy boy from behind and give him a jumpscare by talking in her too-loud voice, yes, it was the perfect thing to do. Not. Still, maybe she hadn't frightened him away, especially seeing that he actually answered her. "I'm Li Holmes... But... Ah, goodness, you already knew that, I'm sorry, Ember. I... ah, I'm alright, and you?", he stuttered in a voice barely audible, his hands shaking. Poor thing. "I'm fine. And it's no problem!" she smiled. "At least I'm certain now and don't make any stupid mistakes. And I had no idea what your last name was, I wondered when I came here and my brilliant idea was - Poems", she laughed, so that was it, Holmes. "Are you by any chance related to that detective guy, Sherlock Holmes?" A smile rang in her voice, a twinkle appeared in her big, olive green eyes.
She looked at Li again. The fluffy hair was cute, so were the big brown eyes, and behind the stuttering shyness that lay about him like an obstacle, he seemed like a really nice boy. Ember hoped she could get to know him without this - know the nice, warm voice and not the awkward tone surrounding it.

Li giggled at that, shaking his head. Oh, she seemed very sweet, and he wished he could force his voice to stop it's constant wavering, wished he could still his ever quivering hands. It didn't seem like Ember minded to much though, which was very reassuring to him.
"No, I-I'm not related to Sherlock Holmes, sadly...uhm..Sadly enough.." he stammered, looking down again, biting his lip and rubbing small hands together.
"I...You seem...You seem very nice..." he said, looking slowly up into her green eyes, a tiny little smile appearing on his face, the sunrise over the hill reflecting gold in dark brown eyes. "What has you up so early? Do you have bad dreams?" He asked, tilting his head. Oh, god, wait, what if that question is to personal? His mind was racing, and his eyes went wide, gaze turning again. Oh, god, he was already messing everything up!
"You don't have to answer, of course! I-I just...I just..want to know.." He said, voice getting even quieter. "I have nightmares a lot and so I know some things that help me go back to sleep after.." He said, rubbing the back of his neck and taking a deep breath. He needed to get his mind under control.

Reducio
I'm SO sorry for taking that long... issues with my internet, and because I'm doing this in a hurry, it's probably totally crap. Sorry :(

Ember smiled. She liked this guy, even though he was a bit shy, he definitely wasn't mainstream, like most of the other people that were surrounding her. After all, he'd asked her if she had had bad dreams, at least he cared...
"No, I didn't have any bad dreams lately. I'm just kind of an early morning person... I love the lake, don't you? It's so beautiful... the deep, turquoise water..." She paused. Could she risk to launch into a deep conversation that early? What if he thought this was too quick, what if she asked too many questions? She masked her words with a happy, eager voice, trying to make them sound like small talk. "Um, do you have some sort of a 'happy place'? You know, a place where you can just be yourself, without worries, a place that always pulls the corners of your mouth up into a smile..." If he hadn't still been standing in front of her, she'd have had the overwhelming urge to slap herself. Really, Ember? She was usually really good at conversation. Why was this crap flooding out of her mouth? She sounded like a saying from the kind of calendar your aunt gives you as some sort of a present and you just leave it lying on your bedside table without looking at it or turning the pages. Nevertheless, she kept talking, trying to hold the illusion of a nice, interesting speaker. "Well, this lake is mine, you know? I can just... come here and look at its beautiful surface, and I feel good immediately! What's yours?" After she had started the topic, she had become really interested. What kind of place did he like? What was he like? She was really looking forward to get to know Li.
