In his Fifth year, Harlan had quite the experience in being humiliated by an kiss gone wrong, a wedding party gone possession, and a man emerging from the soot and ashes of a childhood lost to silly, little games. He was finally in the big leagues and he had to cast against bigger, badder, and better witches and wizards than he had ever considered. Not one to be played or to be a fool, Harlan's fifth year would be swimmingly and he would finally find someone who was worthy of him or simply die trying while also continuing the inched climb to the pureblood elite. With his sister finally graduating, Harlan was a lone solider within the Castle Walls and reveling at the opportunity to finally be a true upperclassmen.

THE PLAGUE — Harlan hadn't realized that the rot of Wizard society went deep and had been more corrupt than he had initially realized. It seemed that the only way to fix anything was to pull out the contaminated by the root and Harlan would start to sharpen his horticulture skills to be able to do so.

IS THIS A CULT? — Most days, Harlan's mind had been on Quidditch and how so many heavy hitters finally graduated, which left a vacuum for the Gryffindor Team to take up as the most problematic team in the school. With a nasty embarrassing victory against Slytherin team, this upcoming year was showing how insulated Quidditch could feel and how Harlan was willing to be indoctrinated happily with ascending Gryffindor to the top.

THE LAST TWO PEOPLE ON EARTH — A blunder, a busted lip, and a faux pas in the School paper had last year looking like Harlan was an idiot and a huge dummy in the flirting department. But that was okay, because he had a scary Dhampir girl from another school who didn't know how embarrassing he could be.

With a tumultuous year behind him, Harlan is excited that his sister convinced his parents to allow the two of them to spend the Summer sight-seeing with Harlow officially being an adult. They have plans to spend time with their Grandparents, enjoying the water ways all throughout Europe, and spending time with a few of Harlow and Harlan's friends while Harlow uses this to figure out her next steps as an official graduate of Hogwarts.

Harlan didn't seem to measure up in comparison to his classmates and the stumbling had him unsure of how to maneuver through the castle with such a colorful cast of characters. He spent most of his time by himself, the pressure of measuring up and surpassing his ancestors heavy on his shoulders until his sister had finally was able to shake him out of the expectations to tell him simply to enjoy his time here. He was a baby wizard, his first go at it all, nothing would be perfect and all he had to do was be himself and everything would flow.

Caoimhe Kyle wasn't meant to be a hurricane in his life but a fated encounter and she had swept him up entirely. A prominent pureblood and popular too, he could feel himself charming and clever attempting to maneuver his way into her inner circle to start his claim for the top. It was a few months of Harlan on his best behavior, full form and brilliant in being the boyfriend that any girl could've wanted. Too bad she figured it out so early and Harlan wasn't expecting her to destroy him so badly. Tears flowed as she called him every nasty name in the book, claimed all their friends to her side, and Harlan begged to transfer away.

IN THE BEFORE TIMES — Despite being born into a pureblood family, the Montgomery's haven't had much success or prestige for generations always playing second or even third fiddle to other families with incredible magical prowess.

Well, this would surely change with the births of the newest Montgomery kin, as the family had a strong belief in a single heir and child to contain as much magical ability to the child. Portia Montgomery (née Müller, nurse, a graduate from Durmstang) would not be held to such ridiculous standards and came from a large family herself. She was committed to Arnold (Harlan's father, ministry pawn, a kind man but otherwise negligible when it came to presence) but would not let their ways stop her.

And it didn't with the birth of both Harlow and Harlan, two years apart while bring raised in a wizarding village within Essex. Harlow was quite the go-getter, ferocious, and domineering while Harlan had naturally gravitated to the mechanisms of magic itself. A curious kid who knew how to charm from a young age, Harlan could find himself manipulating the adults around him who allowed him to simply because he was too cute to be helped. Harlan was obsessed and would remain that way his entire adolescence, so far. He was the young Montgomery boy, adorable, thoughtful, and helpful; a stark contrast to his older sister.

At eight years old, his sister had manifested her magic years ago and he was simply waiting and enamored by the way his mother could charm, hex, and cast her way through life and he had wished to be magic every single day of his life. When his sister got herself the letter to Hogwarts, Harlan was gobsmacked. He, too, wanted to get in badly. It's when his first instance of magic manifested, the lights flickered within his room causing the light bulb to crack while he wished and wished for his own letter to appear one day.

Soon enough, when Harlan was 11, he was sent his letter to Hogwarts and he was ready to begin his journey at the school he'd been longing to be at since finding out about it in his youth and as a Gryffindor like his sister no less. Only time would tell how he would develop during his time in Scotland with the pressure of his family wanting him to break the ceiling and making the Montgomery and notable name within the wizarding world.

WHY DO I FEEL THIS WAY? I'M IN MY FEELINGS — after failings upon failings, the girl who he kept running into at these international events keeps plaguing his mind. he knows very little about ms. de brissac but something about her coyness and willingness to be honest felt refreshing from the elite while others drone on with tradition and expectation. time will tell if she's actually someone worth getting to know better.
