@Hunter Argentum
Bea really had no idea what she was doing here. Was this a way to extend an olive branch of friendship? A ploy to get back at him? She really couldn't say. She'd mostly been trying to avoid Hunter Argentum and his horrible bag of potions since the incident last October. The Great Lake was really the last place she wanted to be right now. She'd heard through multiple sources that Hunter came down here quite often, permission granted to say he was here playing chess and so it begged the question, was she in the mood for whatever was to come? The hallways were a buzz with talk of the Ball and dates and everything else that came with it, countless whispers and questions bouncing off the stone walls and what felt like straight into her head. Like some annoying wasp she couldn't get rid off. She hated it. She just wanted peace and quiet. Solitude. A relaxing afternoon by the Lake.
Which evidently wasn't going to happen with her plans in mind. As she made her way down to near the shoreline, she saw Hunter sitting there. Playing chess. The memory of last year in the Common Room floated into her head, and she cringed. It hadn't been her finest moment by far. Ruining his entire potions stock and bag. She had been lucky to not be called out by a Prefect. Given detention. Honestly lucky that Hunter hadn't done something worse than demand she help him with his potion whilst cursed. Feelings of shame and guilt washed over her, and the young girl closed her eyes. Was this the right way to go about fixing things? She still hadn't made up her mind whether this was a good thing or not. Asking her enemy to the ball...She'd scoffed when the thought had come upon her a few nights ago in the Common Room.
Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath, fortifying herself against the surely oncoming sparring session they were to have. Hands clenched along her side, she opened her eyes to stare. At him, or near him who knew. But either way, it was now or never. Except her feet wouldn't move. A tidal force gale could have come by and her feet would. not. have. moved. She bit her lip, nerves dancing under her skin. This was stupid. A truly stupid idea that would most likely end up with her poisoned or doing something stupid in front of her peers.
Patting her skirt pocket, she made sure her wand was tucked safely by her side. If anyone could see her now they'd surely tell Hunter later what a weirdo she was being. And really, it was that thought, that the new Ravenclaw Prefect was a weirdo that propelled her over to Argentum and his chess set.
She didn't even bother sitting down on the soft, green grass, instead choosing to stand basically over him. Was she looming? Was she in his personal space. Medusa, this was too hard! She'd never been nervous in front of Hunter before. She took a step back, still facing him side on, eyeing his game.
Nerves shot all over the place, she closed her eyes and just blurted out what she had come here for.
"Will you come to the Ball with me?" What the hell? Surely there was a better way of saying that!
She waited for the laughter, the ridicule, maybe a spell or two thrown her way for being stupid?

Hunter slowly yawned, stretching a bit as the sun glistened across the great lakes view. He could feel the slight warmth of the heating sun and the cool breeze flow through the curls of his hair. He could only feel slightly exhausted as he stated the next moves for both the white and black sides of the chess board. Reviewing strategy while barely having any sleep. The boy spent multiple of nights studying while a majority of afternoons sleeping. A night owl and a morning person, but the near middle of days typically was when all his energy was at an all time low. The quiet tone of the lake and crickets was soothing and much better than the sound of students rambling through the halls with their footsteps echoing as well. Yet, one sound was certainly distinct and noticeable... footsteps.
Hunter's ears perked up a bit from the sound, but he only gave focus as they become louder with each oncoming step. He gave the final command to the chess board, as the pieces moved to where he had a chance to take down the white queen with his black rook. Few pieces remained on the board, many were sacrificed as he leered up towards whatever annoyance was bound to bother him today.
Beatrice Langstreth, the new prefect of Ravanclaw had made her appearance. Even before she was a prefect she was an annoyance to Hunter, and the only thought in his ,and as to why she would approach him was to either warn him that she was going to keep an eye on him, or that she was going to possibly give him detention for their past mishaps. Luckily Hunter's paranoia was on a low when he was tired. He didn't care enough to be afraid nor had enough energy to prioritize and contemplate the various problems someone may try and do to him. He was hoping they wouldn't be arguing for the next bloody hour, and the look of her honestly left a slight distaste in his mouth. Burning his potion bag for having helped her with her memories (although she may disagree), and then having caused him to be an emotional wreck from their last encounter.
That regret he felt, he hated the fact he felt such... weakness. He needed to be strong, to further himself and his goals, yet how long was the heart his mother gave him to care and love going to hold him back? A part of him wished he could stop caring, to focus on nothing but his studies, to make the impossible possible. Hunter had shown Bea that he had the knowledge, the effort, the prodigal prowess to pursue and act as a great potioneer... yet the tears. The tears he had, the tears from her, that feeling of sharing pain with someone like her... he loathed it. She made him weak, and he hated that. Hunter wanted to be great and do great, but how could he when his heart held him back.
His facial expression didn't convey any of this, either Hunter was too exhausted to display emotion, or he had enough energy to convey a facade. As he looked up at the girl, he only looked back down waiting for her to possibly rant, scream, or lecture Hunter on some sort of talk of his mischief lately. Had she somehow received word that he was planning on burning a few Raven claws to understand burns better? Did she receive word of how Hunter brews outside of classes testing random poisons on himself and sometimes others.? In fact, did she know that the prefect she replaced had actually been a victim of Hunter's poisons? The boy could only wonder as he looked back down at his board waiting for the words - "Will you come to the Ball with me?"
Yup, like he thought. She was hear to start... wait.. what?? Hunter's thoughts took a minute to pause to rethink and understand what the girl had just said. He looked up back at her, noticing her closed eyes. With their history... something was certainly off. Despite his exhaustion, Hunter's mind began to run off with questions, why him? What was she planning? Was this a trap, is she desperate, or had the young girl actually developed feelings for the boy? Hunter leaned on the most logical idea that Bea was setting up a trap for him.
Hunter recalled talk about the upcoming ball, but hadn't paid much attention to it. He looked towards the great lake, reminiscing about the past relationships he had. He recalled, it was here as well where he met Judith Cohen, the first girl he had a crush on. They dated for some time, but they eventually fell out. Hunter doesn't believe she ever found out about his misdoings, but he always had that fear of what would happen if she did find out. Well, either way they were no longer together. Last fall ball was their last time together, and even then they hadn't done much which disappointed the boy. He tried, and Judith was the only one he was willing to protect against others... the boy sighed.
Then there was Sophia Nelson, a fellow prodigy in potions. Hunter didn't have a crush on her, but her skills as a potioneer were astonishing and he respected that. They were like fellow colleagues who would make mutual trades and assist each other from time to time. Yet... they too had a falling out. It again occurred here at the Great lake, where Hunter poisoned an upper year, Hanako Tone. Sophia stepped in, always trying to divert Hunter from his cruel ways. Yet how could he? He needed to understand, to find the answers to his questions, to create potions that would one day cure everyone of any ailment. Sacrifices were required and the boy looked down at the chess board he had. In the end, he and Sophia also stopped interacting. Both were attempts for Hunter to block out his heart, to hide the side his mother had given him since he was born. A side of kindness, love, and caring.
Hunter looked back up at Bea, a moment of silence had gone by without an answer. His look towards her was more curious, looking closely. This girl, she made the boy feel weak because she reminded him to be caring as his mother had taught him. There was a risk to being near her. Either she would make him weaker, or he could understand his weakness better and eliminate it. She could be the key, to ending the little empathy that still existed in Hunter. Again, the boy looked out towards the great lake, being reminded of the view he and Judith had shared. A slight chuckle came out the boy, perhaps he had lost his mind to the time he has spent at Hogwarts: "Sure, but why me and why should I go with you?" Were all the words the boy could muster. The tone was slightly cold, as the boy was still hesitant as to what Bea was scheming.

The silence stretched on for what felt like hours as Bea waited for Hunter's response. In truth, it probably wasn't the best idea closing her eyes and waiting, considering the history between the two of them, but when looking back at the last 10 minutes of her life, it wasn't the worst idea to ever occur to her. Asking her enemy to the Ball however, was.
Interacting with: @Hunter Argentum
The wind was whipping her hair into a frenzy as she stood there, red curls coming out of the braid to smack her in the face. It felt like a metaphor for her life really. Or what was to be her life. If Hunter actually replied to her that was. She hated this waiting game, it felt like she was waiting on a knifes edge, at any moment he would snap and curse her all over again. Something she wasn't keen to experience again. Medusa, he brought out the worst in her.
Her fingers itched to grab her wand, lash out in some way. Instead she huffed out a breath, turning to walk away from Hunter. Who still hadn't gotten up. Who hadn't replied to her. Since her eyes had been closed she'd missed any looks of contemplation on his face. Anger and embarrassment filled her, and instead of lashing out with her wand, she lashed out with her tongue. She went at him like a bull incensed by a red flag, stopping just short of kicking his stupid chess game into the grass beyond.
"If ye don't want to go with me, just say so." She gestured about, her hands flailing wildly the more incensed and upset she became, "Although I think ye a coward Hunter Argentum!" She shut her mouth from spewing Gaelic obscenities his way, although something slipped out quietly under her breath, "Ye diddy! You spineless idiot!"
Point made, she turned again to head back to the castle to go back to her dorm and cry the embarrassment away. Why had she even thought this was a good idea? She hadn't, and now it was biting her in the butt. Hunter would likely laugh about this once she left, ridicule and mock her for even asking.
His chuckle though stopped her, and his answer had her spinning back around to face him. He'd actually said yes. At that moment, Bea couldn't be sure what filled her more, excitement or dread. But why was she excited? Going with Hunter shouldn't be a cause of excitement, and in all honesty, looking back at their previous encounters, Bea could see nothing but hurt and anger. Surely the Ball would be the same? She didn't trust Hunter as far as she could throw him, and the question of why she would open herself up to another encounter again baffled her. She'd only been to the Fall Ball last year with her two best friends, and it had ended with Bea and Skraele talking whilst Monica went off who knows where with some boy. She wasn't sure what it was about a Ball, but craziness always followed in its footsteps. She looked at Hunter again, more closely this time, nerves a little calmer since he'd actually said yes. He looked tired, and perhaps that was a reason why he had agreed in the first place. He was calmer, less on edge today, which set her more on edge.
Every time she heard the name Argentum, she'd wanted to incendio something. Namely him if she could. Unfortunately, or fortunately if Hunter looked on the situation, she'd been made Prefect and that behaviour had to be squashed. She was now supposed to be a role model for other students. Not a terroriser. Maybe that was why she had asked him? To mend the rift between them. She scoffed to herself at the idea. Hunter would take great pleasure in pushing her into the next potions cauldron he was brewing. She had felt sorry about destroying his bag, and that had been the main reason she'd agreed to complete his favour. Even with the inflicted cold, those tears had been real down in the Potion's Room. She'd been sending her Nan letters weekly, and after the incident, her Nan had known all about Hunter Argentum and his bag of tricks. She'd empathised with Bea about the situation, but had told her that forgiveness and healing was the best she could do. Anger would serve no purpose. Which was absolute rubbish in Bea's eyes. Anger would serve her quite well in life.
The age old saying of, keep your friends close and your enemies closer, would serve well too. Yes that was it. She was going to make sure that Hunter didn't cause any mischief or problems at this Ball by keeping a close eye on him. Not that she somewhere, deep down, actually wanted to be friends with this cold-hearted potion-brewing diddy.
Taking a seat opposite him, her anger deflated, she thought for a moment, trying to gather herself enough that her answer would be a complete and not a jumbled mess. She glanced at the chess board, seeing how may pieces had been sacrificed. Would she be next? It was surprising this silence. Nice in a way. It felt like this was the first conversation since the Apothecary shop that the two weren't spitting fire at each other.
"I- I wanted to make sure you weren't doing something nefarious," she stumbled, her brain slightly tripping over the answer as she pushed that inkling of friendship far, far back into the depths of her mind. "I'm a Prefect now. Have to make sure you're following the rules."

The boy let out another yawn, drowsy but not about to fall asleep. It took a minute, but the information was beginning to make sense and he was able to process the information a bit better. The yelling Bea had committed fell on deaf ears as Hunter was lost in thought. Yet, her response after his own question was fully heard. It certainly made sense, but if that were the case couldn't she have just gone to the ball alone, keeping an open eye on Hunter and the other students? Or was going to the ball alone far more embarrassing than asking a boy like Hunter? The boy was unsure, but it felt as if their was more reason than she gave. Again, due to his tired expression and feeling he merely brushed it off instead. He could think about it more later. Whatever she was scheming, Hunter was sure he'd be ready to go against it.
"Well that's good, for a second I thought someone used Amortentia on you to fall for me. Also, I'll offer you a congratulations to your new position, but don't think that doesn't mean I fear you anymore as I did before." To be fair though, Hunter was afraid of everyone to a rather high degree. If anything it was most likely a bluff to perhaps get on Bea's nerves, or a warning that she would still need to watch her back. With that though, Hunter unsheathed his wand: "Reparo." Swirling his wand to begin fixing the pieces that stood broken across his chess board. Moving the pieces back into place, he cleaned the board up rather nicely. The empire of both sides had been fixed, but the battle was still going to continue. A slight smirk went across his face as he wondered more and more as to what Bea was planning. Hunter if anything seemed too relax, more than usual. It was odd and off, the exhaustion he must have been feeling must have been pretty large. Yet no matter how tired he felt, the more he would scheme against those who opposed him.
As a bit of time went on, a slight memory of the words Bea had spewed went across Hunter's mind. He let out a sigh, a bit of annoyance now overcoming him as he looked at the girl: "Odd to call the person your going to the ball with an idiot you know. Especially with such a hateful tone." Hunter was very curious about that anger that Bea had. In his opinion it didn't quite match her well, as she basically went on a full tirade to yell at Hunter for having not answered sooner. He wondered if she was always that short-tempered with everyone she met. As Hunter pondered, a bit of wriggling occurred beneath his robe, and out came his pet lizard, Fenrir. He tried to grab the lizard, but it swiftly jumped on the chess board having knocked down a majority of the pieces. The white queen stood tall still, as did the black king on opposing side. The tiny "dragon" (lizard) rampaged a bit more before Hunter finally caught him. Hunter laughed a bit, as Fenrir was his only true friend at Hogwarts.
Eventually though he sighed, looking back at Bea as she sat: "Well, I hope your not popular. I prefer not being known too much by others. But besides that, we should discuss a bit on trust. Right? Why don't we talk a bit more. You get three questions, I'll answer all truthfully. In return, you have to answer three of my questions." The boy sounded a bit cheeky in this small game of theirs, what exactly did he already have planned for the poor Bea?

Bea picked at her skirt, fingers itching to just hex Hunter. What was it about him that made her blood boil? It probably all stemmed up to trust, which for him she basically had none. So why was she going to this Ball with him? Maybe it was that little inkling that wanted to trust him that had sway over her. She scoffed at his mention of Amortentia, the thought ridiculous that she'd even fall for him on a love potion. No potion in the world would be able to get her to do that. She eyed him as he congratulated her on the Prefect position. He seemed sincere enough, although from what she'd heard about his behaviour with his predecessor she'd have to be even more careful. "Thank you," a haughty tone creeping into her voice. "I don't think anything could scare you Argentum...Perhaps a little fire though?" The question ended with a slight smile on her face, the memory although shameful meant she had beaten him in their feud. A one up for her in their game of payback.
Her cheeks flushed when she realised he'd heard and understood what she'd said to him in Gaelic. What an idiot indeed! But not him, her. It wasn't a surprise that he understood Gaelic, and Bea cursed herself for even talking in the language. She stammered out an exclamation, nearly unintelligible to her own ears, "Y-you understand Gaelic?!" She looked to the sky then, focusing on the clouds to calm herself. Not from anger, but from sheer embarrassment. Once she'd regained enough of her composure, she looked back at him, trying to see how he'd react to her statement. "I lashed out. I'm...sorry. I seriously thought you'd say no, and rightfully so." She left it at that. It was short, but truthful. She was short-tempered, she knew that, and sometimes acted without thinking but Hunter was the only one to really make her lash out and be annoyed with in such a direct way. When she thought about it too long, it unnerved her.
She jumped back as some scaly reptile pounced out of Hunter's robes, and a small squeal of fright left her body. It wasn't because she disliked lizards, she'd played with plenty back on the Farm at home, but more the fact that she had not once, seen or heard that Hunter had a pet lizard. Eyeing the reptile, who seemed on track to barrage over to her, she cautiously placed herself back in her original position when Hunter caught the creature. Her eyes flickered up to Hunter as he laughed, shock once again filling Bea. This was perhaps the first time she'd actually seen the boy laugh or smile carefree. How she wished she had a camera so she could take a picture and store it for later.
She blinked owlishly at him, the shock not having fully left her system. It was only when she registered his next words, that it began to disappear and caution take it place. "You're right...I don't trust you. But I don't think it's me we have to worry about at the Ball, is it? You seem to make enemies where-ever you go." She glanced at Hunter's lizard at Hunter's tone. Cheeky, playful. What was this new game they were playing? She bit her lip, trying to think of good questions. He'd put her on the spot. What should her questions be? Should she waste one on something trivial? Or should they all be deep? Finally she decided. "Alright," she picked up the white queen from the board, rolling it in her palm. "Why potions?" If they wanted to trust each other, she had to know the reason this hatred and disgust had started in the first place.

Hunter placed Fenrir on the board, to which the lizard curled up and placed its tail in its mouth similar to an ouroboros. Resting on the middle of the chess field sunbathing as he listened to Bea. Hunter merely pushed off Bea's comment about his fear of fires, truth be Hunter was specifically afraid of people in general. Their unpredictability is what caused him to experience a rather dreadful first year at Hogwarts. Originally excited, but now only fearing and becoming paranoid of every situation when it came to crowds or a few students.
Despite just being tired, that was most likely the other reason Hunter wasn't acting his usual self. Or rather, the usual that most students met and talked with. The situation was rather perfect, the boy was out in nature reminding him of the times he studied at home, he wasn't near crowds of individuals, the one person he was talking with was someone he knew, and he was of course tired. There was no need for fear or paranoia. The countless thoughts that ran through his head were gone for the time being. Relaxing and blissful, the best explanation as to why Bea was surprised by the way he acted of actually smiling and laughing. Of course, only his pet Fenrir was really capable of doing all that.
He let out a sigh, but it was more close towards relief of stress than being annoyed, "Do I know Gaelic?" The boy repeated the words Bea had spoken: "Understand, yes. Speak it, not really. Grew up around many people who spoke it so I was taught the language, but I didn't really practice it much as I was home schooled and we spoke Swahili in my household. Most likely the reason my accent isn't as strong." Indeed Hunter's accent was always a bit odd to some. A strong mix of African and English tones, but a slight scottish one could be heard every so often: "Apology accepted."
"I make enemies here and there, but just as many accomplices too. Everyone has enemies at hogwarts, whether you like it or not. In truth though, I don't view anyone as an enemy yet...well... except one, maybe." Hunter gave the response to Bea for her response on why he needed to be kept watch on. Like in chess, he was careful on where to place his pieces, where to move and when to act. He understood what he did and was going to do. Sacrifices were required, but he was accomplishing much for his young age. As for the last comment, it was a truthful speech. He even paused a moment to look at the great lake, to reflect a bit before adding, "I know what I've done and I know who considers me an enemy. I keep watch of them, but I hold no malice... well, except for that one time a certain girl burned my potions." He eyed Bea a bit, only slight forgiveness was given since his retaliation for her act was rather brutal for the both of them. Yet that was the truth whether Bea believed it or not. Hunter knew who disliked him, but he didn't dislike them unless they attempted to get back at him. Of course its fair play, but for a child to be the one with the upper hand is always sought out. In general, no one liked being retaliated towards.
With time passing by, Hunter noticed Bea picking at her skirt. His eyes slightly jerked away realizing or rather assuming she most likely wasn't enjoying or wasn't going to enjoy this talk much. With his fears gone, the boy picked up the black king chess piece and twirled it around: "Why potions..." Again, repeating Bea's question.
Slight paranoia of wondering what this girl was scheming came to mind, but Hunter reached in his cloak and took out a chocolate frog to nibble on. He even took out a second one and placed it on the board for Bea if she had the courage to do so. If there was one weakness Hunter had, it was sweets. Although oddly too, he could be found munching on murtlap tentacles like they were gummy worms. On some occasions he'd have purple hair growing from his ears, but today wasn't that case.
As he munched on the frog, he looked towards the sky: "It's just family trade I guess." The boy continued chewing the sweet chocolate, thinking of everything he should and shouldn't say: "Argentum, a pureblood family specialized in potions. Those born in it are just born with some gift for potions, so I was just destined for it. Yet, I suppose that doesn't answer why I pursue it, does it?" He looked towards Bea, he suspected the girl wanted as much information as she could about the boy. After all, the more he told the more likely she was bound to trust him, right? "Or perhaps a wonder more on why I've used potions on others." At that point Hunter had finished his chocolate frog, to which he merely took out another. If Bea were to ask how many sweets the boy carried with him, she'd certainly be surprised: "Well my father told me all sorts of stories, investigating dragon lairs, fighting 100 murtlaps, acromantula hunting, all sorts of tales of adventuring to collect potion ingredients. I use to want to be like him, to be great and follow in his footsteps. So I went to my Nyanya, or..." Hunter paused looking at Bea for a quick second "seanmhair" having changed the Swahili word for grandma to Gaelic for better understanding: "And she's taught me everything I know about potions. Eventually it just became fun to brew with her, and my mother was proud of it. My dad on the other hand..." yet Hunter paused. Just how much was he going to reveal. He paused for a quick second, looking at Bea, then towards the great lake as he paused.
He shook his head, as if disapproving himself and continued eating his chocolate frog and where he left off, "Well, that's how it started I suppose. Eventually I spent more time with my mom and grandma who are both Healers. I grew interested and have studied much about anatomy and such, but what good was it? There is a clear line between experience and studies. So like my dad would, I decided to invoke on an adventure and poison a few students. The better I understand my potions, the better I can reach higher heights to cure such illnesses. I even poison myself from time to time trying to make new potion recipes." Hunter stopped rambling at that moment though. Perhaps he shouldn't had said that last part to a prefect, but he bet Bea didn't care if Hunter was poisoning himself. If anything, she probably hoped he'd choke on the bezoar's he had to consume to stop the poisons from possibly killing him.
"Well hopefully that answers your question, so it's my turn." To which Hunter ended up finishing his 2nd chocolate frog, and again... taking out a third one. His sweet tooth had no end, and it seemed they were gonna be their for a bit. Yet, unlike Bea. Hunter already knew part of the question he wanted to ask. He reached in his cloak again to retrieve a journal. Opening it and finding a certain page, he read in his own head. Putting the book back, he knew what to ask. Yet he offered another chocolate frog saying she would need it to calm her nerves and continue the game fairly... "So, what is your happiest memory of Thanatos?" The boy didn't look or sound sly, but curious. Yet a part of him knew, that he most likely gave a different interpretive gaze to Bea based on the question.

As the lizard curled up on the chess board, Bea felt something settle within her. Animals only liked good people right? It was cute, and Bea reached out to stroke it, hoping against all hope it didn't bite her. Her eyes flicked up to Hunter when he said he knew Swahili. "I should have guessed you knew it. But Swahili...that's pretty cool." Her tone whilst cautious ended with an amazed tone. It wasn't a common language Bea heard, and she was fascinated by languages. She however, wasn't going to use a question on that. Maybe it would come up in further conversations, if they were to have one past this afternoon. She kind of hoped so, her curiosity burning.
She squinted at Hunter as he described his enemies. "Really...I'm shocked! I'd thought you'd have more than just the one..." As the words settled in the air, realisation came across Bea. Her eyes flew wide, and her hands settled back into her lap, clenching the white queen piece. Feelings of insecurity and shame filled her. The potions bag incident was going to be held over her head forever. She knew it. Her short fuse was always going to get her in trouble someway. Her anger at the incident long gone, the people pleasing aspect was coming to the forefront instead. Why had he made it so difficult to be friends in the first place? All she'd wanted in that apothecary was a potion. She hadn't done anything to him.
She scoffed, eyeing the lake. "Well, if someone hadn't given that girl the wrong potion, your potions bag would still be here." Obviously Hunter wasn't over the whole incident. If Bea thought of why it happened and what had happened after, her chest filled with anger the size of a size 5 cauldron. Tit for tat and all that. Was he going to retaliate some more? She hoped not. This afternoon was actually looking pretty decent, for once.
At first she was sceptical on how this was going to work out. Was he going to give her a one line response to her question? She watched at he brought out a chocolate frog, setting on on the board for her. She went to grab it, hesitating for a second before grabbing it fully and opening it. Nothing in the world would be as good as sweets. Which, as she watched Hunter pull another after another out of his robe, she felt some sort of connection. They liked sweets, what were the odds? Considering they were both 12 years though, very high.
As she listened to Hunter's story about his childhood, Bea felt something bloom in her chest. She couldn't name it, but it might have been empathy... She hadn't expected Hunter to go into such detail, especially regarding his childhood and home life. It obviously hadn't been the most wonderous time, as he stopped and started about, but Beatrice was grateful all the same. The poisoning himself comment made her raise her eyebrows, and again the question of why settled in her mind. Ambition would only get you so far...
Her face scrunched as she thought on his motives. His life goals. Was that why he'd given her the wrong potion? Why he'd decided to use his own moral code and be above the unspoken rules of society like some great, mythical potions pedlar. She wasn't sure what to think and because she needed more time, left him to open his journal and begin his turn. Nerves shot through her at what question Hunter would ask her, and Bea bit a big chunk off her chocolate frog to quell them. Her eyes narrowed in suspicion when Thanatos was mentioned. Finishing off her frog, she took a moment to gather her thoughts before beginning.
"My happiest memory? I don't really know in a way. All my memories with Thanatos, except for that horrible," her voice turned agonised, "terrible last day, were all happy." She sniffed, her eyes tearing at the corners and she looked to the Lake to try and hide them from Hunter. He didn't need to see her weakness. "I grew up in Ellon, Scotland, which you can probably tell from my voice. My Nan owns a farm with lots of animals and plants and it's just magical." She sighed, bright Summer days playing in the fields filling her like a incandescent globe. "We have multiple dogs on the farm. Two of them, my Ma's are big friendly house dogs. Don't really to a lot of work. There for cuddles and company, my Ma says. Thanatos wasn't one of those dogs. He was a working dog. One of the ones would go out with me Da and corral the goats, and the sheep." She stopped for a minute, catching her breathe. "When Thanatos was born, my sister and I both got to pick puppies from his litter. They were our responsibility to look after and train. My sister Ella didn't end up doing that." She laughed quietly to herself. "She was a bit too young. But I did. I got to name him, train him how to gather the animals, how to walk with me, how to act with other dogs. My whole childhood was seemed like it was just him and me, bounding along the grass fields and jumping into the river. Best friends forever you know," she glanced back down to Hunter's lizard at that last comment. Maybe he would understand. "The happiest day was probably that first time we all went out. My Da, me and the dogs. My Da got Thanatos to lead and do the work. He was perfect. At the end of the day, my Da turned to me and told me how proud he was of me and Thanatos." She swiped her eyes for real now, silent tears coming down. "It felt like a piece of my heart and soul was ripped out from me the day he was hurt. Kicked in by some nasty ol' goat in front of muggles. Nothing we could do." This conversation was feeling like that. No matter the happy memories she had, they would always be tinged with sadness now. But in a way this also cathartic. She hadn't really talked to anyone about it, always closing up when any of the adults in her life asked. Clearing her throat, she swiped the tears away hopefully for good. "Alright. Second question, what do you really think of me?"

Hunter didn't say or react much as Bea attempted to pet Fenrir. The lizard itself was a trouble maker, and if she was trying to capture him, the troublesome little lad would find a way to escape one way or another. He did give a small reaction towards Bea's comment from the sound of her voice sounding actually amazed and possibly interested? He merely waved his hand at the small comment: "Not that amazing, but I can teach you a word or two if you'd like." The language was just natural to Hunter, in fact he preferred speaking in Swahili over English and would always talk to his cousin Vale in the language whenever he had the chance.
As for Bea's second comment, he only looked and placed his hand beneath his chin as a rest. Eyeing her while crouching his back and sitting with crossed legs, he again was taken aback by her surprised tone: "Even so, I can't seem weak or I'll end up being picked on by those I have bad relations with. As such I usually act hostile with them. I also tend to get easily annoyed from being tired with headaches. The noises of the halls and the questions to assists others with their homework gets on my nerves, so I suppose I may seem rather hostile rather often." This was a unique comment by Hunter, making him reflect back to how different his first year at Hogwarts was. For starters, he wore yellow shaded glasses all the time. He wore them so frequently, that they actually ended up making him feel nauseous if the world didn't have its extra yellow-tint added to it. He did take time over the summer and a bit of medicinal appliances from his grandmother to help treat for this, and he no longer wears them. This experience was just one of Hunter being sensitive to the surrounding environments. Perhaps it was because he was raised in a quiet secluded town, but he always had a knack for listening deeply to his surroundings. It wasn't super hearing or anything like that, but he always took the time to listen and "feel" the area both consciously and subconsciously. Even know in his 2nd year he found himself being sensitive to the loud sounds of grouped students and his bad sleeping habits only created a nasty combination for headaches.
Yet, Hunter always had to keep that facade of a collective calm look and mind. To concentrate despite the fact he could easily be annoyed. Only in bliss could he actually have a normal conversation like now with Bea. He also hated the thought of being looked down on or being thought as weak, another reason he didn't share his constant paranoia and always had to seem tough or act like he was three steps ahead of everyone else. Yet the boy didn't feel like sharing that much of a personal thought with Bea... after all, they could both still be considered enemies.
As for her last comment, Hunter said nothing nor gave a look. He knows what he did, and he would continue to argue that he gave Bea the right potion. The potion she needed, not what she wanted. Although to be fair, he also had the slight motive of wanting to know if memory potions had a strong affect on dreams, nightmares, and trauma. He luckily got his answer, and he was certain Bea was going to thank him. Well, he was wrong... for now he hoped.
The large sound of the frog being eaten didn't catch Hunter off guard. He suspected some sort of negative reaction upon mentioning her dog. The boy actually had to look in his journal to make sure he got the name right. His memory of students wasn't the best, a reason as to why he had to write what he could. He would most likely take a memory potion after today's talk with Bea, to remember their talk and take further notes about the girl. The point was to either get to know her better, to know her secrets, and of course her weaknesses.
He listened, his eyes getting droopy but still listening. He hoped Bea wouldn't take offense, the boy hadn't taken into account how much studying he had been doing. Also all the chatter of the spring ball was honestly making his headaches worse. His eyes despite almost seemingly closed weren't needed. Even though he didn't witness Bea turn her head and possibly let out some tears, he certainly could hear it. Her voice, sad and perhaps about to break. Hunter merely listened to her sob story with full interest despite how he may have looked. Let's hope she wouldn't berate him for almost seemingly to fall asleep to her sad tale that started their whole rivalry.
Of course at the end, as she asked her next question his eyes opened back up. Empathy was certainly seen in the boys eyes as looked back at the girl. He placed his king piece in the middle: "What do I think of you?" The boy had to think for a second as he again repeated the questions the girl asked... While he had the thoughts in mind, he decided to reach back into his cloak and take out his journal once more. Flipping the pages till he found the right page:Hunter read his notes, time certainly passed. If Bea attempted to even look at his journal he would do everything in his power to divert or gaze and avoid it. He wouldn't let anyone see the contents, no matter how tired he was. Although, one could certainly snatch it away if they really wanted too. As the silence passed by, with the musical sounds of birds and the wind passing by he sighed, "Annoying, at best. I understand why were on the wrong foot, and I regret nothing of it. If anything, the reasons as to why all this happened I just find annoying because no one thinks or can see what I see. So for now, annoying. Although I will say as of right now I'm finding the conversation interesting, pleasant, and fun. Still, possibly because I act differently, I find you and a majority of other students annoying." The boy placed his journal back inside his cloak, speaking only what came to mind in a rather straightforward tone.Beatrice Langstreth
A short, porcelain doll looking girl, apart of house Ravenclaw. Based upon her stature and house she seems like a rather harmless person. We met in the apothecary shop where I gave her a memory potion instead of a forgetfulness potion. She apparently wanted to forget the experience she had of her dog's death, but based on my own intuition I believed that would have been a rather bad call. There was a chance she wouldn't just forget the death, but would forget everything about her dog. From the sounds of her voice she certainly cared very much about this dog named "Thanatos." I hope she thanks me and realizes she almost made a mistake...
Annoying, belligerent, and extremely short-tempered. She bloody burned my potions bag containing at least 75% of my materials. I'll have to keep a closer eye on her, no. If anything, I need to be more cautious with my bag. Can't let it off my body, can't even let it be close to anyone unattended. At best, I'll also have to only carry a few things rather than a majority... damn her. I can already feel the eyes, the thoughts that people are trying to take my potions, steal them and burn them... I won't let them. I won't let them, especially her, take away my hard effort. I have to be careful of her temper. I can tell, the facade won't work any longer. We both get extremely annoyed from just being in each other's presence.
I tried to get back at her... it... was... I wish I could forget that feeling of regret. I'm weak... I can't be weak... can't let them see me be weak.
With that, he could feel the weight of sand from the sandman pushing against him. He picked up his wand and cast the levitation spell. Bringing the chess board to a near by tree as Fenrir road it like a floating surf board. He placed it down by the trunk of the tree, while he on the other hand grabbed the nearest branch and pushed himself upward. A common practice he did at home, falling asleep, studying, and spending a majority of his free time climbing natures giants. Rather than going up high though, the boy stayed very low to continue his talk with Bea, "Alright," he said as he laid himself along a branch: "What is your happiest memory of Thanatos?"

Beatrice bit her lip when Hunter offered to teach her his language. She hadn't expected an offer but it was too good to pass up. The Ravenclaw in her sung. She'd wanted to accept the offer straight away, but caution overrode her excitement. They weren't friends. This conversation was probably some fever dream caused by one of his potions. She had to remember that they weren't close, that trust hadn't really been established and more than likely, she would come out of whatever exchange they had looking like a fool. So again, why go to the Ball with him? Bea sighed, curtailing her enthusiastic response. "Thank you. I would like that some day."
This journal though, something she'd been curious to see since the Common Room incident, taunted her. Bea could see that Hunter was cautious about it, making sure she didn't look at the inner sanctum of his thoughts. She was itching to know, fingers drumming on her crossed legs and as she leaned over the chess board to maybe get a glimpse Hunter shifted it away. Huffing, she sat back down, waiting for his verdict on her. He'd probably sentence her to being his human guinea pig for eternity if he could, his heart full of pure poison for her.
She scrunched her nose at Hunter's assessment of her and ultimately of himself. Did he really think so highly of himself, so above everyone that he was better? Because she had quite a few choice words to say to him on that subject! She could at least console herself with the fact that she wasn't the only one he found annoying, and her heart soared that she wasn't number one on his hit list - an item Bea was sure he had. Maybe not in the journal in front of her, but somewhere - another journal perhaps.
Perhaps it was her confusion on his assessment of her, that Bea didn't immediately realise what Hunter had done to the chess board. Alarmed at first, she uttered out a squawk falling backwards onto her hands. She watched as the chess board settled next to a tree, its branches providing the perfect cocoon to nap in. Or in Hunter's case, as he climbed the branches and lounged along it, the perfect place to get away from her. The branches were low, but she really didn't want to go climbing along the overgrown wood today. Settling herself on the ground below next to the chess set and Hunter's lizard, she looked up at Hunter waiting for his question, her head resting back against the tree trunk. Now that the first one was out of the way, she felt slightly better, nerves wise. Although the bubble in her chest hadn't fully abated, it was smaller the longer they continued this conversation.
Her brow furrowed as her ears took in what Hunter asked. She couldn't help the reply that came out of her mouth almost instantaneously after. "Maybe you are an idiot! You just asked me that. And I told you." She slowed down her speech to near one word sentences, her annoyance bleeding through her tone, "Thanatos. Was. My. Best. Friend! When. I. Taught. Him. To. Herd. The. Sheep. And. My. Dad. Told. Me. How. Proud. He was of me." She scoffed, eyes glaring daggers at Hunter. He'd asked that on purpose, just for a reaction. "What a waste of question."
"Alright. Third and final question. How badly will I be hurt at this Ball?" Because it wasn't a matter of if she was going to get hurt, it was a matter of when and how badly that truly concerned her. She knew this peaceful afternoon truce wouldn't last forever.

"Waste of a question?" Perhaps it was, but Hunter was overall just tired and was trying to get a point across Bea's mind. She had that memory, and at best had placed it at risk if she had received a forgetfulness potion. That was the main reason Hunter had even given her a memory potion, as the forgetfulness potion was a dangerous item to use that didn't have an exact measurement of what memories would be kept and which ones would be loss. He rolled his eyes, and could feel the slight annoyance of Bea's response growing in his head. Each words she emphasized treating the boy like an idiot only made him groan in the depths of his mind. In his very egotistic head he was calling her an idiot in belief she had no clue of the dangers forgetfulness potion had. It was rather true, Hunter had a big of an ego when it came to intellect.
Well either way, he knew what her kindest memory was, she actually opened up her feelings... oddly to the boy who caused her such trouble and karma, and they were getting to know each other a bit better. Was this trust the boy was feeling? Well perhaps, but who trusted who more? Was he trusting Bea more, or was Bea trusting him more? No matter in the end, Hunter would be cautious of the girl who burnt his bag and decided to spend time within him during this evening. He actually enjoyed the small company, but he was beginning to admit in his head that she was just starting to give him a headache. No matter how much time the two would spend together, they both were bound to reach each other's limits. Then it became a question, of how long would the two of them be able to bear each other's presence during the ball. So many questions, but such little time. With that in mind though, Hunter felt it was about best time to leave so he wouldn't have to endure a headache on his way back to the common room. Leaping off the branch of the tree he laid upon, he landed almost on top of Bea but luckily he merely landed perfectly fine beside her and his chess set; most likely due to experience. He gave a minute before answering Bea's question. He snatched the white queen piece from her, and placed in on the chess set. He then placed the black king piece on the board beside it. A second went by, and the boy stated, "King take Queen." To which without hesitation, the black king piece took it's chair and swung it at the queen piece causing it to break into a couple chunks. Perhaps a surprise to Bea, but not one to Hunter. His expression didn't change and all he did next was cast the repairing charm on the queen piece to rebuild it back to its original form.
No matter how many times the queen took down the king, or in this case the king took down the queen they would always comeback just as strong, perhaps with a few very minor imperfections. Yet there was a fun rule in chess. The queen piece could be taken, sacrificed, used just like the pawn. It was the strongest piece, worth the most points and treated as the most important piece on the field. However, the king piece is what really mattered. It could never be destroyed, only placed in check or check mate. Only captured, never harmed and was the true piece that mattered the most. Hunter only smiled from this small thought. The king was the one who pulled the threads, using the other pieces as pawns. Picking up his chess board, and allowing Fenrir to run back into his cloak. He merely answered her question with his own final third question while walking off: "Depends, how much of a nuisance will you be?"
