A Dreadful Letter Home
Dearest father,
Firstly, I must ask, how are you? I hope you are safe and comfortable at home. I do really miss it.
I've arrived safely at Hogwarts, and I haven't met anyone yet. No one seems to want to approach me. It feels lonely, so far from home. The people are cold, and I am receiving a lot of weird looks. Why, father, why? The Great Hall is as magnificent as you describe - the food is scrumptious. Not as good as your cooking though. I thoroughly enjoyed the tarts and pudding. Meat was good. My only complaint is that it was far too crowded and the room was suffocating, filled with sweaty and tired students. But of course, where else would they fit so many students?
The sorting ceremony was terrifying. The hat felt interesting, like it was peeking into my brain. A bit weird, but nothing too different from an ordinary hat. Though I feel fortunate the sword of Godric Gryffindor didn't pop out of the bottom of the hat and into my head. I wonder where the sword is now - I'd love to research it one day.
I fear I must bear the news: that you have dreaded. The sorting hat has spoken. I have been placed in house Slytherin.

Dear Kiana,
Needless to say, I am very disappointed.
I am glad you made it to Hogwarts safely. It sounds just the way I remember it. However, I expected much better from you. After all, our family takes pride in you. Do not let us down again. Of course, I do not hold any personal grudges against House Slytherin. However, I expected a more prestigious house.
Then again, I cannot change the person you are and nor can the sorting hat. It has decided, and I will abide by it. For the hat knows best. To compensate for this tragedy, you must work twice as hard and bring back many honors from your classes. I expect straight O's and failure to do so.....well, you will discover the consequence soon enough. I hope you take this letter to heart. Do not disgrace me again. Make your mother proud.
She gave you everything, disciplined, educated you. Now, despite being in a...house like Slytherin, you must bring her honor. Remember this, or I will have a howler sent to you.
Do not make me repeat myself, Kiana. Keep this letter next to you, in a folder, perhaps, and do not forget it. Let this be a reminder to you every day:
do not disgrace me.
