Parselmouth is in bold.
Kiana wasn't one to socialize. Being in Slytherin hadn't helped either. There was nothing wrong with Slytherins, of course - Kiana met many friendly ones during her time at Hogwarts. Yet, there were always those who adhered to the stereotypes of Slytherins - cunning, callous, over-ambitious individuals who always turned out bad. Even her father thought so, and the memory of her father's disapproving letter still brought tears to Kiana's eyes. "He still loves me," Kiana whispered to herself, burying her nose in a book once more. She'd grown quite fond of books - they were her new best friends. Still, they were far from human friends. By now she'd grown accustomed to being cold and stony-eyed, though deep deep down in her heart, she ached for company. I am strong on my own. I don't need friends.
Kiana knew she was different. She knew it since she was ten, when she first discovered her parselmouth ability. Maybe that's why I wont't make any friends, she thought silently to herself. Then again, she sounded very childish as well. Kiana's mother had always thought highly of her.
"You are an intelligent, dignified, cunning young lady, Kiana," her mother would always say, "don't you ever forget that." Kiana missed her mother dearly. And her dearest mother was right of course. Kiana would often be praised for her maturity and integrity. I must act the part as well.
Kiana begrudgingly shoved her leisure books back into her back and began studying for charms class - she'd become quite fond of it. Usually, in the surprisingly cozy Slytherin common room, she'd be focused and productive. Outside, however, everything was a distraction. What happened to the focus that her mother trained her to do? Or was today just not her day? Maybe it was time for some fresh air, but Kiana refused to get up from her seat. She gazed up and took a deep, refreshing breath, remembering her snake "friend" Mobius, who was (hopefully) still living peacefully in her garden. After learning about her parselmouth ability, it made communicating with Mobius a lot easier and more exciting. She'd told the snake all about how to hide from her father.
Lost in her thoughts, Kiana didn't notice someone approaching her.

Alana was enjoying a leisurely stroll through the courtyard. The gentle breeze danced around the quiet courtyard. Though many students were not out an about. Alana held her school textbooks in her frail lanky arms. Her black robes seemed to be slightly baggy as they rest in the crook of her elbows as she held her lanky arms up to her chest. Her books rested gently against her chest. The fiery red haired girl hummed happily after all she had finished one of her favorite classes prior to coming out to the courtyard.
As the fiery red haired first year girl walked along the arch ways of the courtyard. Alana noticed from the corner of her eyes a young first year like her self sitting alone. They seemed to be studying by themselves. Alana stopped for a second staring at the girl quietly her sea-foam eyes scanned the young girl noting her long dark luscious hair though it seemed to have a tint of purple in it over all it still seemed natural in color. The first year in front of Alana adorned a Slytherin attire. Which made the young Gryffindor excited. Making new friends in a house such as Slytherin was something she enjoyed doing. She loved all of the people she has met in that house so far. As well Alana never saw anyone as a bad person just misunderstood that is how the young girl felt about the house of the snake.
Alana skipped happily over towards the Slytherin first year girl. Alana's fiery hair bounced at every little bunny like skip that she did. Her sea-foam teal blue eyes radiated with kindness and sweetness. Alana stopped a few feet in front of the slightly taller Slytherin girl. Alana herself was slightly short she was only four feet and five inches tall though she was not extremely short for her age she was still a bit under the height limit. Alana broaden in to her trademark grin. Her button nose seemed to scrunch up slightly because of how her lips moved upwards in a broad grin. Her freckled covered face popped even more vibrantly.
Alana took a second to glance over the young Slytherin in front of her noting her eyes seemed cold but held that of unknown sadness. Alana tilted her head to the left hand side staring sweetly at the girl still smiling sweetly at the Slytherin girl in front of her.
"Are you okay? You seem a bit sad?"
Alana spoke softly towards the young girl that was in front of her. Though Alana was not sure if she noticed her or not sense she seemed to be reading a book. Alana knew for a fact books were a great escape after all the read haired girl did it quite often. Alana held her books closer to her chest curiously looking at the girl that was in front of her. Alana waited patiently for an answer. The frigid air blew gently across the courtyard making the leaves dance gently as if they were staring in their own little dance number. Alana's sea-foam teal eyes watched the Slytherin girl in front of her wondering if maybe the girl heard her not. Though Alana did not mind being patient at all.

Kiana was a bit startled at first, but welcomed the greeting wholeheartedly. She'd hoped someone would approach her anyways. It wasn't often that someone decided to talk to her - given that she was Slytherin and came from a rich family, she often got rude glares from the other students. This girl happened to be a Gryffindor, which made Kiana even more wary. Her father had been a Gryffindor, and as far as she knew, Gryffs and Slytherins were sworn enemies.
But, that could change.
Maybe they could be friends. After all, this girl gave off a warming sensation that filled Kiana with new hope. "Oh, I'm fine," she said cooly, turning to face the girl. "How's your day? I'm Kiana, by the way, how about you?" She hoped she hadn't sounded too stiff and formal - she didn't want to leave a bad impression. The last time she interacted with someone (well, barely) they hadn't even made eye contact and didn't respond to her lighthearted greeting. Maybe Kiana was too intimidating, or some other thing she couldn't comprehend. She didn't talk to anyone after that.
This girl was different. With her fiery-red hair, she walked with the poise and confidence of a burning flame. Kiana sized the other girl up (something she did regularly, it was a habit) and, given wat she had seen, this girl was special - at least to Kiana. She knows me, Kiana thought, she won't judge me.

Alana smiled gently at the young Slytherin in front of her. Alana took in the girls appearance. Though Alana could tell she looked like the girl came from a well mannered family most likely Pure-bloods, but Alana knew better then to judge ever so quickly. After all Alana's mother always taught the young girl to respect others especially their blood status and learning curves as well. Alana herself was a Half-blood her mother came from a pure-blood family so the young girl at least knew of stories and how some pure-blood view others. Though Alana could tell by looking at the Slytherin girl that was in front of her that she seemed quite different. Alana could not put her finger quite on why though.
The gentle frigid air nipped gently at the duo silently. Alana's fiery red hair bounced gently in the light feather like breeze. The girl's sea-foam blue eyes stared at the girl that was in front of her. Alana smiled ever so gently holding her books gently against her chest as the wind did a small little dance around the duo.
"Alana! Alana Dibble! That is my name! It is a pleasure to meet you Kiana! My day is swell just finished Potions one of the best classes around honestly! Do you mind if I sit beside you?"
The young Gryffindor first year nodded down wards to the empty spot beside Kiana. The fiery red haired girl smiled gently as she spoke her tone was honey sweet. Her tone also held a bit of excitement in her soft tone. Alana seemed excited to make a new friend and she definitely felt like Kiana needed a friend after all. Alana was always happy to make as many new friends, because to Alana even someone who felt like being alone and having nobody understand them needed a friend. Alana saw the good in everyone even if they may not be good. Alana always seemed to feel like their was always light in darkness. The fiery red haired girl stared gently at the dark haired girl in front of her awaiting a response. Alana did not wish to just sit down without permission the young girl was brought up to respect peoples space and if the young Slytherin rather be alone. Alana respected that for sure.
The wind gently blew against the duo the frigid air nipping at Alana's ears the small fiery red haired girl continued smiling sweetly as her hair danced gently bopping back in fourth in the gentle breeze. The suns rays streaming down from the heaven above the cotton like clouds scattered about gently moving in a sluggish pace. Alana's black school robes swayed in the gentle breeze as she continued to smile at Kiana. Alana's gaze held nothing, but kindness and sincerity as she awaited an answer from the other first year girl.

Kiana breathed a sigh of relief - no judgement and harsh glares yet. Coming from a wealthy, pure-blooded family, it would have been easy for anyone to walk away from her. The girl kindly introduced herself - Alana - a respectable name. As Kiana had learned from the handy etymology book (given to her by her mother) the name 'Alana' supposedly meant "precious" and was a name of endearment. Kiana found it quite fitting for the girl, who gave of an aura of comfort.
"Of course, feel free. I don't own the place after all, you're free to sit next to me," Kiana replied cheerfully, happy for some company at last. It felt nice to sit next to someone the same age as her.
Come to think of it, Kiana had never really had friends. She grew up in a household completely isolated from civilization. It was just studying day and night, she hardly had time for friend-making or socialization. She'd never met anyone the same age as her and even if she did, they most likely called her a "snob" simply because her family was wealthy. Oh, well. It didn't matter anymore. She didn't need those viper-tongued fakes from her old home - she had plenty of spending money anyways and loads of interesting books to read. Why did she need them? Why did she need friends?
But, money couldn't buy happiness. It couldn't buy friends.
Kiana sat in quiet contemplation, feeling comfortable next to Alana. Maybe the word 'friend' meant something more. Kiana had never quit understood it, though. Would Alana be her friend?

The fiery red haired girl smiled happily plopping down right beside Kiana. Alana sat her books down beside her. The fiery red haired girl turned her gaze towards Kiana. Alana's fiery red hair seemed to move in a wave like motion a top of her head. Her sea-foam teal blue eyes sparkled with a radiating shine of pure joy. Her robes rested messily under the young girls bottom as she sat atop of of. Her long sleeves stopped resting at the edge of her lanky frail looking wrists. The girls freckled splattered face seemed to look lively and brighten with joy.
As the wind gently swayed through the air. The young fiery red haired girl stared gently at Kiana. Kiana had a contemplating look on her face which worried the young fiery red haired girl. Alana glanced up wards at the sky a smile formed on her lips as she thought of something her mother once told her and it always seemed to reassure the young girl in the times she needed it.
"You see how vast the sky is? It looks like like a big ole ocean. But it home to many different things. Like the clouds they move very sluggishly while the birds zoom by ever so quickly. Yet they coincide with the sun and the rays the sun shines down upon us. My mother always said this, because of wizarding kind. We have pure-bloods, half-bloods like myself and muggle-borns but we all coincide, because we all have magic that is what makes us the same. After all we maybe different blood status way but we are all the very same."
Alana spoke sweetly at first glance one would assume the girl should have been a Ravenclaw for how bright she sounds. Alana turned her gaze from the peaceful sky towards Kiana a bright radiating smile on the girls Sunkissed tone skin seemed to make her freckled splattered face seem caring and kind. The wind gently nipped at the young fiery red hair girls hair making a few strand dance swiftly in the gentle breeze. Alana smiled smiled brightly tucking the few stray strands behind her ears.
Alana's soft sea-foam teal gaze rested upon Kiana. Alana could tell something bothered the girl though she had no idea what it could be. Alana figured her words may help calm the young Slytherin girls nerves. Though Alana was not very sure if the girl was really nervous or what was going through her head. The young Gryffindor girl knew that the girl in front of her just needed someone to talk to a friend if one where to call it that way. Alana knew how it is to be a lone after all that is a huge fear of hers. That is why Alana tends to want to be friends with everyone if it is possible at least. Even Alana knew some people just did not want friends. None the less Alana continued to gaze softly at Kiana as the wind kept dancing gracefully amongst the duo as if it was dancing a little number for the duo.
The suns ways continued to shine brightly down into the courtyard the scenery was ever so peaceful. With the enchanted hedge-clippers tending to the bushes the fount that sat in the center of the courtyard made the sound of trickling water falling onto a still surface of water. The young fiery red haired girl took in a small breathe relaxing as the sounds of peaceful nature seemed to overlap everything. It was ever so peaceful, Alana's gaze continued to stay on Kiana a smile gracing the young fiery red haired girls face.

Kiana smiled, something she didn't do often. "Wise words from your mother," Kiana noted, acknowledging that the girl must have figured out what Kiana was worrying about. Thank god, the girl was one of the few who didn't discriminate by blood status. "Few" was an overstatement, of course - there were many who loved and embraced all blood statuses. Kiana just didn't see them. Alana's teal, seafoam eyes seemed to contradict her blazing red hair, but Kiana liked that. It reminded her of a beautiful sunset next to the sea, and it was one of Kiana's favorite things to do with her mother.
Now, she almost never got to see her mother. Though the woman was strict with Kiana, her mother always had faith in her and despite being a tiger mother, always found time to do fun things with Kiana. Now, her father was far too busy to mind his daughter, no matter how much he loved her.
Again, spending money. Money is what kept Kiana's mind away from these annoying matters. She was far from a spoiled rich girl, but having some pocket money for sweets and souvenirs (to many people's surprise, she loved buying weasley products and pulling pranks, occasionally, of course) and if she ever had any friends, perhaps she'd get them gifts too. Of course, the only friends money can buy is those that seek your money for personal benefit.
Maybe money was the reason she had no friends. Kiana had always been cautious - she didn't know if someone intended to be her friend for the sake of being kind, or if there were strings attached. Money kept her (somewhat) happy, yet it made her lonely.
Life was always so irritatingly complex.

Alana smiled brightly at Kiana. Alana's fiery red hair gently danced as the gentle breeze made itself known. The young girl's sea-foam teal blue eyes sparkled with pure joy. Alana turned her attention towards the sky a smile adorning her sun-kissed tone skin. Listening to the peacefulness that surrounded the duo. The young first year Gryffindor girl giggled slightly.
"My mum is very bright she was a Ravenclaw after all. Sometimes I wonder if I was put in the wrong house, but I enjoy were I am. The sorting hat is never wrong you know? It sees things inside of us that we can not even imagine. Many think that Gryffindors and Slytherins are natural born enemies you know? But I think even a Lion and Snake can be great friends. After all together a Lion and Snake can prove themselves very well."
Alana smiled brightly at the Slytherin girl in front of her. Alana was hopeful to be friends. After all the young lion enjoyed making friends the more friends the merrier. Alana also could tell the young Slytherin girl that was beside her was in need of a friend after all. Alana figured she could help.
Alana could tell that the young first year beside her may not try and reach out friendship first, so the fiery red haired girl figured she offer her hand out first. Though Alana was right about one thing she definitely held more of a Ravenclaw traits though. Her inner lion seemed to be showing just very slightly at this particular moment.
Alana's soft sea-foam teal gaze rested on Kiana. The young fiery red haired girl took in the young Slytheirn's appearance noting that the girls hair was luscious and had a tint of purple with the dark color that it held. Though the sunlight rained sunlight down on the duo Alana continued to smile gracefully, before turning her attention back up towards the sky her sea-foam eyes watching the clouds move sluggishly around, along with flocks of birds floating on by singing their on little chorus of songs. In the moment Alana felt at peace with the wind nipping gently against her face. The young Gryffindor was happy to beside someone who just needed a friend and Alana felt the urge to just be that shoulder for the Slytherin girl that sat beside her. After all everyone needed a friend even if they are from a so called mean house. Alana knew the houses did not define a persons nature after all nobody is truly evil they are made evil. To Alana if someone is made evil it is because they never had a friend to help guide them down the right path.
Glancing back over towards the Slytheirn girl Alana smiled gently showing all of the kindness the girl could show. She wished to help the girl feel at peace and happy just as she felt. Alana awaited for the young first year Slytherin to respond back to her as she turned her attention back upwards towards the baby blue sky watching the cotton like clouds drift by smoothly. A sense of peace washed over Alana the gentle breeze danced in between the duo. As silence seemed to be peaceful at that very moment and time.

For the first time, Kiana felt pure joy. She took Alana's hand graciously, and looked up towards the sky. Listening to Alana speak, she finally found inner peace. She decided to open up. "It's hard to find people who understand and appreciate me for who I am," Kiana explained, "most of the time they want money, or they just don't care. Being a Slytherin doesn't help either, but you're right. A lion and a snake can be friends, and I hope that's us," Kiana offered kindly, her mood and spirits lifting. The heavy weights of the world slowly were lifted from her shoulders. A friend. A real one. Kindness with no strings attached.
That was something Kiana hadn't known for a while.
The clouds drifted lazily and a soft breeze caressed her cheek as she took a soothing breath, putting her mind at ease. Her hair danced in the wind and Kiana could catch the faint scent of flowers, and she adored their aroma. The smelled like happiness. Kiana couldn't quite remember the last time she felt happy - when she last saw her mother, probably. Her heart ached every day. A friend, she thought to herself, I have a friend. I hope, she closed her eyes and after quietly thinking to herself, she turned back to Alana.
"I hope you recognize how kind you are, you're mother's taught you well. From what you've told me, it seems like she's a wise and kind woman, much like my mother..." Kiana complemented, sounding just a bit like an adult but pleased nonetheless. She saw her own mother in Alana's figure.

Alana glanced at Kiana squeezing her hand gently in a reassuring way. The young fiery red haired girl smiled kindly at the Slytherin girl that sat beside her. Alana's fiery red hair bounced slightly with Alana's gentle movements. Alana gave the young Slytherin girl a gentle smile. Her mind wandered off to the thought of her mother. Alana adored her mother though she missed her a tad bit. The young fiery red haired girl enjoyed making new friends. Her first year at Hogwarts has sense been eventful and all. Alana continued to gaze at Kiana.
Alana hummed sweetly smiling a radiating smile towards Kiana her freckles popped vibrantly across her face while her fiery red hair swayed in the gentle breeze that kept making its own little appearance amongst the duo.
"Many people are greedy. Though I see no reason why one would want nothing, but money. Honestly yeah I love new things, but I enjoy nature even more and money can not buy nature. I mean look around even though were still on school grounds the outdoors is beautiful. Money can not buy this kind of beauty."
Alana spoke sweetly. Her gaze softened at the young first year Slytherin girl that sat beside her. Alana was for sure one who enjoyed nature. After all money could not buy this kind of beauty. Alana's sea-foam teal eyes made their way back upwards. The clouds drifted by lazily the sun's rays seemed to dance upon the castle grounds the wind dancing among the dead leaves making the leaves look as if they were dancing. The sound of the birds singing their melodies sweet as honey. Even the insects seemed to have a say with the sweet melody the birds were singing.
Though the castle grounds were not as busy and bustling as usual, even the soft patter of older and younger students making their way to their next destination sent a sense of peace in the air. Alana continued staring up at the sky her sea-foam teal blue eyes sparkled happily. The wind gently caressing the young Gryffindor's face gently.
"Friends do not care if the other has money that is not what friendship is about after all. I believe friendship is about a bond that two people can share you know? Even polar opposites can be the best of friends. I have seen it before. Plus friendship is the best magic one can have after all you never know when the other may need the help."
Alana spoke thoughtfully breaking the silence once again. Though Alana was not sure if this would calm Kiana's nerves or not. The young Gryffindor girl could tell that the young Slytheirn still seemed like she was complenting many things at that very moment. Though the young fiery red haired girl knew better then to press any buttons or to even question it. Alana knew when Kiana was ready she will speak to Alana and confide in her due time that is. Alana continued to squeeze the young Slytherins hand in a comforting manner before glancing back up at the baby blue sky. The young red haired girl closed her eyes as the suns rays seemed to lick the freckled covered girls face. Her fiery hair seemed to brighten up in the relaxing sunlight the breeze was ever so gentle. Alana was excited after all making a new friend was just the next chapter to a wonderful blooming friendship after all.
