The cool Sunday air blissfully swirled around the peacefully castle grounds. The sun radiated the cobble stone ground along with the patches of light greenish ground covered the ground were the cobble stone path did not rested upon. The mid-morning was bustling with many birds singing their songs floating by in small flocks and some just by themselves perched up the scattered lamp posts. The forbidden forest was not as alive as it tends to be at night though one could hear the sounds of the creatures that reside inside.

Relaxing between a three row column of stones was Alana the young red haired girl sat a top of the slope like hill. Surrounded by three columns of rocks. The rocks were eroded a bit from weather and many years of residing on Hogwarts grounds. Alana was relaxing her small frame leaning against the column as she held a book in her small hands. Her sea-foam blue eyes were intently reading the book. Today the young girl decided to read about the history of the Goblin and Wizard war. The fiery red haired girl was curious and enjoyed the thought of learning more about history after all. In order to not repeat history one must understand history. At least that is how the red head thought like.

Alana's sea-foam teal eyes sparkled as the radiant sunlight front the sun enveloped the young girl making her fiery hair prominent almost as if her hair was on fire or shining like a ruby. The young girls freckled covered face was also popping out the freckle outlined her button like nose as her oval shaped face seems a bit soft almost heart shaped but clearly more oval shaped. Her sea-foam teal blue almost green eyes were reading intently the pages in front of her.

The young elven year old girl seemed to embrace the nature around her. The sweet smell of blooming flowers wafted through the air along with the fresh morning mildew wafted through the air similar to a cherry pie after being freshly baked. The wind gently kissed Alan's sun kissed skin tone gently shifting her wavy red hair as if being blown by a tiny wisp. Taking in a fresh breathe Alana closed her airs. Taking in her surroundings the smells were all fresh and smelt peaceful. The sounds of students chattering and wandering about was also prominent. The soft crunch of the dead leaves and grass as many young and older students scattered around among the grounds. The sounds of the fluttering of wings from the many species of birds fluttered on by around the grounds.

Alana opened up her sea-foam teal eyes staring up at the sky her gaze was soft as her eyes sparkled sweetly up at the sky. Though it was mainly sunny a few stray clouds seemed to scatter about. The suns radiating light shimmered upon the grounds. Alana turned her attention down below. Where the girl rested she could see down below noting how the sun sparkled upon the Great Lakes clear smooth glass like appearance. Blinking slightly out of her trance the young red haired girl turned her attention back to her book.

Once again Alana started to begin her reading her mind drifting off to what she was reading her mind was closed off to the world around her. Being slightly entranced in the book in front of her. Though the young girl also seemed to pay attention to her surroundings as well. The young girl hummed softly with every word she read. The peace that was surrounding the outside world of the grounds seemed to put the young girl at peace with everything. As the wind continued gently nipping the young fiery red haired girl. Her wavy locks shifting slightly each time the wind kissed her sun kissed fair skin.

Alana exhaled gently closing her book the young girl seemed tired of reading as she looked back up at the almost clear sky though a few stray clouds seemed to stream by similar as a snails movement. The red haired girl closed her eyes letting the warm sunlight envelop her. Her back against the column rock her hair basically being a cushion.

📅 march 19th, 2023 | ⌛ 10:02 a.m.
Today had been an absolutely wretched day for Harlan since the moment one of his fellow lion’s let out severe enough gas that cleared the first year’s bedroom before the sun had risen. The perpetrator hadn’t been caught but the boys spent the better part of an hour in severe interrogation trying to sus out exactly who was the criminal. It took a prefect coming in to shush the rising decibels of sound to get them all a forced early start to the day.

As soon as Harlan had grabbed all his toiletries to get ready, he somehow ended up at the back of the line for the showers and by the time it was his turn, the hot water seemed to need re-enchanting and what was usually a five minute endeavor turned into a thirty minute wait.

The day continued tumbling forward as he finally finished and noticed a huge hole in one of his wizard robes from his sleeve to his stomach. Even though his family was well enough off, it’d take at least a few days to get his parents to be able to send him a new one and his spell casting wasn’t quite good enough to repair something like this. He’d ask someone but he still quite hadn’t found his place at school, a few acquaintances but no one really who he clicked with yet.

With a sour mood firmly planted on the young child’s face before he left the Gryffindor Dorm Room, the stairs decided to be fickle and had him spinning in circles trying to orient himself to get to the ground level. By the time he made it to the bottom level, it was already time for class and his rumbling tummy was enough to cause him a moment of agony as Harlan forewent breakfast and headed for class.

Luckily for him, Charms seemed to go well enough and it seemed like he was in the clear to finally go grab him a quick snack from the great hall and Harlan could finally have a few minutes to reorient himself and this awful day that he simply couldn’t shake.

With a quick shuffle in his step, Harlan grabbed himself a Banana Nut Muffin and with a beaming smile decided he would enjoy this prize outside in the fresh air and sunshine of the Grounds level. After a few cobblestone steps and stone pillars, the expansive grounds was filled with tiny pockets where students could make themselves comfortable while reading or simply wanting a reprieve from the castle.

“ Thank Merlin. ” Harlan sighed a breath of relief as he made his way through a column of three pillars and without seeing the protruding stone in front of him, Harlan tripped and sent his muffin flying as he fell on the floor fairly hard.

“ You got to be kidding me! ” He let out a frustrated rant as he grunted loudly and pushed himself off of the ground before taking to his robes and dusting himself off, not realizing his surroundings or what could have happened with the muffin that was once in hand.

Alana was lost in her book not noticing a muffin tumbling to her feet. Once the young girl noticed the soft nudge. The fiery red haired girl looked down noticing the fluffy shape of the muffin. Alana carefully picked up the muffin looking around. Looking to her side Alana noticed the boy that seemed frustrated. Being the caring, kind soul that she was. Alana sat down her book walking over happily towards the fellow first year boy.

Alana's fiery red hair shimmered in the sunlight similar to a freshly lit fire. Her sea-foam teal eyes sparkled with kindness and happiness. Her sun-kissed skin tone made her freckles that rested on her cheek bones and button shape nose pop even more vibrantly. The girl stood about four feet five inches tall slightly short for someone in her age group. Her wavy fiery hair rested in cascades of waves down her back to the center of her shoulder blades. Her black school robes seemed to fit the young girl just slightly baggy stopping at her wrists. Her white button up shirt had very few wrinkles in it while her Gryffindor tie was neatly tucked away. Her plaid black skirt was slightly ruffled as she had thigh high black socks on along with her black loafer shoes.

The fiery red haired girl stared curiously at Harlan for a second her sea-foam teal gaze taking in his appearance. Alana could tell by his ranting and appearance he most likely had a rough start to the day. Alana holding the muffin in her hand held it out to Harlan smiling sweetly at the young first year that stood in front of her.

"Hello! I supposed you may have dropped this. Five second rule after all it should still be tasty. Though dirt is not all that bad after all."

Alana spoke sweetly with her honey sweet tone. She giggled slightly her sea-foam gaze staring at Harlan quietly. Her red locks swayed in the gentle frigid breeze. The young girl continued holding the muffin out towards Harlan. The young fiery red haired girl took in his appearance his robes seemed a bit tattered he definitely was covered in dust from his tumble. Alana's face turned to one of concern though she may have known this young first year in front of her she seemed deeply concerned.

Alana stepped closer though keeping a good distance sense she could tell this young first year in front of her seemed to be having a very rough day after all Alana did not wish to make it worst then it already maybe. Her sea-foam teal eyes showed slight concern tilting her head to the right hand side Alana stared at the boy kindly, but with a hint of concern on her calm features. The young girl still held the muffin in her hand. The frigid cool air brushed against the duo dancing around Alana's hair making it dance slightly like a bonfire that wished to expand.

"Are you alright? Your not hurt are you? The grounds can be so uneven it is just awful really."

Alana rambled slightly concern laced in her sweet tone. Her soft sea-foam teal eyes showed nothing but concern for the first year that was in front of her. Alana glanced down once again at the muffin holding it out to the young first year that was in front of her. She smiled sheepishly but sweetly at the young boy that seemed to be in front of her. Alana's fiery red hair danced slightly in the frigid cool air as the sounds of the birds melody rang around the area the sun's rays shining down making the young girls hair brighten even more in the morning light. Alana's freckled splattered face popped more vibrantly on her sun-kissed tone skin. The young girl continued to smile at the first year boy that was in front of her.

A flurry of words gargled up continued to spew from Harlan as he continued to get himself situated after falling until he noticed a pleasant tone of a person hitting him directly in his sour mood. With eyes furrowed, he took a look at the shorter person in front of him with locks from the kindle and a honeysuckle smile. For whatever reason, that simply furthered Harlan down his series of unfortunate events as he offered the girl a feigned smile and grabbed onto the Muffin only to chuck it as far as he could near the Forbidden Forest.

“ I’m not going to eat food from the floor, no matter how hungry, are you dense? ” His stomach right on time with a large gurgle from his lack of eating for the day. “ Besides, didn’t anyone tell you to mind your own business. If I wasn’t fine, I would’ve gone to the Hospital Wing. ” His mouth in this moment felt more like a viper than the mighty roar of a young lion, his hunger turning a usually pleasant and brazen young man into a demon of a pre-teen.

“ So which one is it, are you simply not all there or just absolutely nosey? ” Harlan’s eyes widened as he cocked his head slightly to the side waiting for the girl to answer, even though there wasn’t a right answer in this scenario.

Alana cocked her head to the side noting the young boy was obviously furious most likely from embarrassment the fiery red haired girl glanced at the boy. She could tell he seemed infuriated though she did not blame him in the slightest. Alana took his brash behavior very lightly after all he had just tumbled onto the ground his robes were obviously tattered. So she had a feeling it was just an awful morning for him. Thinking of her next moves carefully she did not wish to infuriate the boy further then he obviously already was.

Alana closed her eyes for a millisecond to listen to the nature surrounding her letting the calming breeze help her train of thought. Slowly the young fiery red haired girl stared at the slightly taller boy her sea-foam teal eyes sparkled with such radiating kindness.

“Honestly I am more ditzy than dunce. Rather smart actually, but never mind that. Nosey maybe slightly after all you did tumble though you may not be hurt. Just genuinely concerned for you that is all.”

Alana spoke carefully though sweetly in her honey like tone. Her sea-foam eyes stared at Harlan. Though she was right about one thing the girl was a bit ditzy. Any sane person would have walked away from the grumpy first year boy. But Alana wanted to make sure he was okay physically yes he was fine, but he seemed infuriated as if his day could not get worst. Alana watched the young first year boy carefully. As if she had a light bulb go off In her head the young girl opened up her brown satchel that rested against her. The young girl dug out a nicely wrapped granola bar that she ended up taking from her stash in the dormitory after all one should always have a snack when walking around school grounds. Alana held out the granola bar kindly.

“It is no muffin but you seem rather hungry you may have it. I don’t mind at all”

The fiery red haired girl smiled brightly and kindly at the young boy in front of her though he was slightly taller the shorter girl seemed genuinely sweet. A smile broaden her face happily.

With his canines wide and exposed, the girl’s casual and sweet nature had him utterly confused. Harlan knew that when he was hungry, all pleasantries went out the window and he became the Hell Fiend of Essex (nicknamed from his siblings) who just needed a snack to keep the raging beast at bay. Either Alana’s Gryffindor nature was shining through in this moment with enough courage to fill the house cup to victory or she was simply out of her league and staring down the beast in absolute foolishness. What Harlan knew to be true was that often the line between bravery and stupidity was all but a sliver, but in this moment he offered the girl a smile and a nod while he moved closer and received the granola bar that he was being offered.

After a few bites, he put the granola bar to the side and let out a satisfied sigh.

“ Thanks for the granola and sorry about earlier. ” He said sheepishly, a hand going to the back of his neck rubbing it in sheer embarrassment. “ It’s been a tough day and i’m an absolute monster when i’m hungry, you can ask my folks. ” Letting out a slight chuckle as he offered a hand to the girl. “ Harlan Montgomery, grumpy gryffindor first year whose day has been horrendous. ” She seemed kind enough to accept his apology.

“ I think i’ve seen you around but don’t think we’ve ever met. ” He’d even say that her hair color would be enough to make her seen different but there were surprisingly many gingers at Hogwarts, even more within the Gryffindor house for whatever reason.

Alana giggled sweetly. Her fiery red hair bobbed up and down around her small oval shaped face similar to a cascading water fall. Her sea-foam teal eyes sparkled as the suns radiating light rained down upon the duo. Though Alana did agree with the young first year boy their were a lot of red haired students and even Alana can agree the majority of them look like first year students. After all Alana is good friends with a red haired first year boy herself.

The smaller girl glanced happily up at the slightly taller boy noting he was in a fairly better off mood then he previously was after being fed. Alana took a mental note to make sure to always carry snacks encase she ran into this boy once again when he was in a very hangry mood. Alana smiled sweetly at the boy puffing out her chest slightly as the gentle breeze began to nip at the fiery red hair girls face.

Alana turned her attention to Harlan when spoke. The young first year Gryffindor introduced himself and seemed quite embarrassed after all Alana understood greatly. He seemed to feel sincere with his apology so the young girl did not mind it after all. The fiery red haired girl smiled brightly at the first year boy gently.

"Eating is very important after all. But it rather okay after all it could have been so much worst. My name is Alana! Alana Dibble by the way. Pleasure to meet you Harlan."

Alana spoke sweetly towards Harlan, the young girl understood if ones day began to be a bit horrendous then everything just falls into place around it. The fiery red haired girl continue to gaze at Harlan. Alana giggled slightly when Harlan mentioned that he has seen the redhaired girl around. Though their maybe many red haired first years and students in general Alana was sure she maybe one of the shorter ones. After all the young girl only stood four feet and five inches tall. Her sea-foam teal eyes sparkled with happiness as the young Gryffindor girl continued to smile sweetly at the other Gryffindor first year in front of her.

"Well saying we are both Gryffindors most likely have seen me in the common room. I am usually seen with Ying or some of the others! Maybe I should introduce you to them! They are a load of fun!"

Alana spoked excitedly at just the thought of introducing Harlan to her friends that is if he was interested after all. Alana will admit her group of friends though gradually growing they are nothing but trouble after all. Alana closed her eyes for a bit before opening her sea-foam teal eyes gazing at Harlan her trademark grinned appeared on her face making the young eleven year old freckled splatter face pop vibrantly her button shaped nose was surrounded by nothing but her freckles. Her fiery red hair swayed peacefully as the gentle breeze moved along the duo. The air though slightly frigid smelt of fresh blooming flowers wafted though the air peacefully.

Alana turned her attention back to Harlan coming out of her daydream a grin appearing on her small oval shaped face. She was awaiting a response from the young boy, but over all she was in no rush after all their was no need to rush one especially if they do not wish to be rushed.[/center

There was a calmness in the crisp early Spring air as the chatter of students seemed hushed in these moments as Alana’s sporadic giggle fits perfectly into the ambient noise of the exterior of Hogwarts. Where Alana was filled with expression, vibrant ginger hair bouncing with every emote of the young girl’s face, Harlan hadn’t the range and simply gazed at the red-head with a Medusian gaze, stoic and stonelike face watching Alana thrive in her element of generosity and kindness. no

As Alana introduced herself, Harlan took a look at his extended hand and noticed he had remnants of granola on it and with as much grace as he could muster, Harlan attempted to wipe the small bits off on the back of his robe, how embarrassing.

As she spoke, he knew that this poor girl wouldn’t hurt a fly. Despite Harlan not being exactly sure how that would fare for her, he had to respect that in the world they lived in there were people who still were incessantly sweet. “ You’re very kind, did you know that? ” Harlan asked carte blanche and almost as though out of left field as he looked down at the girl with their significant height difference.

“ Not sure if I know Ying, I mostly keep to myself. ” The Gryffindor first years did seem like somewhat of a rowdy bunch but he wasn’t completely opposed to getting to know them. He was still getting used to being a Gryffindor, his heart felt more inclined to Hufflepuff but perhaps the unique brand of courage he possessed at the end of the day was still courage. “ But, if you ever see an opportunity, glad to meet your friends. ” Harlan finishing his sentence with a kind smile, radiating what Alana was offering back to the sweet first year.

“ I have to head back up to the fifth floor for Charms, do you have class now too? Happy to navigate those awful moving stairs with someone who they might be kinder too. ”

Either way, despite the way his day had been going, seems like things may be looking up with this introduction to the sweetest Gryffindor first year that had ever existed.

Alana glanced up at Harlan grinning as bright as a shining star in the night sky. The fiery red haired girl's sea-foam blue eyes sparkled with joy as if the ocean was swimming inside of them. The crisp cool spring air gently brushed by the duo. The hush shatter of students seemed to hum similar to a fly buzzing in ones ear. The fresh fragrance of blooming flowers wafted through the grounds peacefully. The fiery red haired girl glanced up at Harlan a smile still planted on her sun-kissed tone soft oval shaped face. When the young boy spoke and told Alana that she was kind she giggled slightly staring at him with a kind sweet look on her soft oval shaped face.

"Mum say's it is better to be kind to other then be rude. Being rude gets you know where in life. It just troubles one's heart."

Alana spoke softly her voice seemed to drip like sweet honey her eyes softened at the thought of her mother. The wind whistling gently in the newly spring air. Alana continued to gaze up at the older boy with a gentle soft look in her ocean sea-foam eyes the young girls eyes sparkled like a run radiating off of the vast ocean during it's highest peak. When the young boy agreed to meet the rest of Alana's friends the young girl beamed ear to ear as if she was given the best news of her life entirely. Staring happily at the taller boy the younger girl jumped a bit in joy.

"That sounds outstanding! I am sure you will enjoy everyone we are all a bit umm chaotic but the good kind!"

Alana spoke cheerfully her eyes radiating with pure joy similar to a kid in a candy shop.
As the wind gently brushed against the duo again the young girl glanced up towards the caste humming. After all classes were going to begin soon. When Harlan told the fiery red haired girl he had to go to Charms Alana smiled brightly at him.

"I have Potions unfortunately. But maybe we can meet again in the common area. Until then I hope you have a wonderful day!"

Alana spoke softly though she felt a bit sad that they had to separate ways the young girl knew they would be able to meet up again later in the commons or even in the Great Hall. As Alana made her way to her next destination she waved gently back to Harlan giving him a kind cheerful smile. Leaving the young boy behind to head to his next destination as well.
