Esther pushed the door open and hurried into the Leaky Cauldron. The weather was cold, and she was shivering as she made her way over to the counter and leaned against it. The sound of people talking and the warmth of the pub quickly chased the cold out of her bones.
She sighed and looked over the crowd. She had a lot on her mind.
Luckily, she was already past her Sorting Ceremony and had successfully found her new home in the Ravenclaw common room, but she was kind of scared to talk to her housemates. They all seemed so distant and way too clever for her. She was concerned if she could ever fit with them, and what they'd think of her.
So instead of befriending some student or exploring the school, she came back to the only place that was familiar and calming for her: this very pub. She sighed again and wondered where she had lost her enthusiasm. She knew that she had to find some friends, or at least someone who could help her with getting used to this magical world, but she had been living her whole life covered in lies, and she didn't want to start acting like somebody else again.
One thing she knew for sure. This place will teach her how to fulfill her dreams, even if she had to do it all alone.

It didn’t surprise Daniel at all that he didn’t follow in either of his parents’ footsteps. Sorted into the house of the cunning and ambitious, he already felt right at home. It wasn’t an exaggeration, either. He had found people with similar mindsets and similar goals, and it felt so freeing to not feel suffocated. He hadn’t told his parents yet - they didn’t quite need to know. Plus, sending owls was a hassle. He’d just have to let his parents contact him first…

But he had more interesting things to do. The Leaky Cauldron was a hub for people, adults and students alike, to dance their way through to Diagon Alley. The pub bustled with a few people today. Daniel was a pretty open fellow, so talking with others wasn’t an issue; it was more his brash nature and his quick quips that made everything feel off and rude. He wasn’t really a rude person, though. No, never. Okay, maybe sometimes.

He found himself looking around. Most tables seemed to be taken, and several with multiple groups of people. There was a single table with a girl who looked about his age, and of course, it was literally the only empty seat. Irritated, but enough of a man to swallow his pride, he stepped over and gestured to the seat, “Is this seat open? Mind if I take it?” he quipped. He’d probably take it regardless of her answer.

(ooc: hi there. wasn’t sure if this was an open thread or not, so if you don’t want me here, just let me know and i’ll leave it!!)

He wasn't entirely sure why he had traveled back to the Leaky Cauldron, but he had, and so there he was. Tom was still crushed by his house placement. He knew Slytherin was his House, yet somehow he'd ended up in Ravenclaw. Not that he wasn’t happy, it could have been a lot worse; Gryffindor... He shuddered, imagining the rowdy cocky crowd. The thought was too much, Tom decided, an turned to look for somewhere to sit.
It struck him that only one table had free seats, it was already occupied by a Slytherin boy and a Ravenclaw girl. Tom blushed, wondering if the two were together but brushed off the thought. They couldn’t possibly be, the Slytherin was sitting as far from the Ravenclaw as the table allowed. "Um... do you guys care if I sit here?" Neither responded, both were dozing off in their minds. Tom sat. Only then did he realize that he was surrounded with people from his house and the house he wanted to be in. It could have been a lot worse.

Esther got abruptly torn out of her thoughts when a boy approached the table where she was sitting. She was not surprised though, since it was the only free table left.
He had brown hair and blue eyes and strangely his gaze was a bit prideful and shy, as if he needed big courage ask her a simple question. She figured he could also be a first year student.
-Sure, go ahead.-she gestured towards an empty seat.
As the boy sat down, Esther wondered which house he could be in. He looked organized and mysterious. Maybe he's from Ravenclaw too?
As she enumerated the possibilities a second boy arrived at their table. He asked something but Esther was too caught up in her thoughts to answer. The boy quietly sat on a chair next to her, and without saying a word he stared angrily and kind of disappointed in the air. Esther could feel the Slytherin vibes coming from his eyes.
Tired of being too nervous to make friends Esther took a deep breath and asked:
-Are you guys first year students?
Both boys looked at her, and she suddenly felt as a performer on stage before the curtains rose. She suddenly started to think about every other question she could have asked. But she steeled herself and stared back at the boys, patiently waiting for their answer.
