(Un)Welcome back!
April 24, 2023Ava would be lying if she said she wasn’t nervous to show her face on the premises. Truth be told, she was terrified. She had gotten a range of responses from people, from the two girls on the train ride back wanting to pretend that she wasn’t there, and neither were her actions to the older gryffindor who had yelled at her until Ava was shaking. She never wanted to be seen again, if it were possible. But she couldn’t hide forever. No, she had to show her face eventually.
Ava found herself getting dressed up in gray sweatpants and pulling a green hoodie over her head. Just because she wasn’t wearing her school robes didn’t mean she wouldn’t represent her house. She left her hair down and pulled the hood over her face before stalking out of the common room.
Ava was looking for a new book to read, having read most of the books in her room at least twice, if not more. Only one place to get books. The library. She headed up from the dungeons where her common room was located and in the direction of the library
When Ava arrived at the library, she would assume she was alone. She didn’t see anyone else, so she grabbed a book and sat down at one of the many tables. Little did she know, there was another person near by. Closer than she would think. A sudden noise would make her jump. “Who’s there?” She would say, peeking out from from under her hood.@Clair Fernandez

(Un)Welcome back!

Clair was not really in the loop for all the gossip, she only really heard what her friends told her. To her school was much more important than gossiping, and after school there was sports, and friends and then Gossip was twined in there, after all, Friends and sports often had gossip. But otherwise that was the only ways she got her fill of gossip.
It had been mentioned in the halls and Clair had heard some people chatting about it in her common room, she had not wanted to hear it, no it had been a mistake. But once she had heard it, Clair had been quick to forget it, on purpose of course. Now here she was, in the library looking for a book for her studies.
As she pulled one of the books out a book beside it feel down on the floor, "Oh, Oopies, sorry book!" She said as she bent down to pick up the book, as she was standing up she heard a nervous "whose there?"
Clair looked around and then spotted the girl, "Oh hi! I'm Clair!" She greeted happily, "Sorry if I disturbed you, I was just being a clutz." She smiled and her right hand shifted the book that was in her hand, a habit that had started a few weeks ago for no reason.
It did not dawn on Clair who this girl was, after all it had been months, about six months to be exact, since she had saw the girl last, and that had been at a quidditch game.

Ava clutched her book tighter. She hoped it was someone friendly nearby, because if it was someone she knew it would be fight or flight instincts. Although she would usually resort to fight, she was already mapping a route out of the library and past anyone and everyone nearby. Past the bookshelves on her left, through the door and down the stairs to the dungeons…
"Oh hi! I'm Clair!” The girl seemed oddly happy, too happy to know who she was. Ava pulled her hood farther down to cover her face, and slammed her book shut. She hadn’t even made it past the first page, she thought miserably, getting ready to abandon the book. "Sorry if I disturbed you, I was just being a clutz." Sorry? Sorry? That was a word Ava hadn’t heard in weeks—months even. She was always the one saying it. The word was always addressed to someone else.
Ava peered at the girl from under her hood, and jolted. This was the girl from the quidditch match she had played a few months earlier. They had lost, but Ava had gotten experience in quidditch and insight on how broom flying actually was in a high speed game. What was their team name? The ocacamy storms? That was it. What was this girls name? Irina? No… she peeked up from her hood, and soon her face could be seen and was no longer hidden. Clair. That was her name.
ReducioAva makes an escape route. She also recalls the past and tries to figure out what girl is in front of her. Her face becomes seen underneath her hood while she is looking. @Clair Fernandez

(Un)Welcome back!

Clair was in a good mood that day, she had no real plans and was not planning on anything special for the day. Days with nothing planned were the best days, they were like a present, just waiting to be opened and enjoyed.
This girl seemed shy and nervous, Clair did not judge, maybe she was a shy person, maybe she was just a shy firstie who was still getting used to the crazy not at all private lifestyle that came with Hogwarts. Either way she was still going to treat this girl with as much politeness as possible, that's how she would want to be treated.
Clair caught a quick glance at the girl's face, it took her a moment to realize who the girl was.
Clair's smile stayed on her face, she did not believe the rumors. After all they were just rumors and she had not yet asked Colin about it, thinking it would be a touchy topic if it had really happened.
Besides, Clair was not judgmental in that way. First she had to think about it, maybe even ask about it before she made up her mind. And even then Clair liked to walk a mile in their shoes before she judged them.
"Oh, Your Ava right? We were on the same Quidditch team a few months back, remember?" Clair looked happy as she thought back to the time she had played that game of unofficial quidditch.
"How are you?" She asked, nit thinking about how the question might be hurtful if the rumors were true.

When Ava realized that Clair had seen her face, she ducked back down quickly. Curiosity kills the cat, they always say. Finally, she would learn her lesson. Too late, she decided. She removed her hood, and her entire face was visible.
Somehow, Clair’s smile was still there. Hadn’t she heard the rumors--no, the truth? Clearly not, since she didn’t seem fazed. That would be a first. Or maybe she didn’t care, although Ava doubted it. Should Ava tell her? No, that wouldn’t make sense. Why would she ruin a possible relation with someone? They could be friends, so long as Ava kept her lips tight.
Although…maybe Ava should tell her. She was trying to be good from now on, and basing a friendship on a concrete of lies wouldn’t do. Yes, she would tell Clair the truth.
Ava was right about to when Clair began talking. "Oh, Your Ava right? We were on the same Quidditch team a few months back, remember?" Remember? Ava dreamed about that day, flying around, scoring points, feeling like she was part of a team. She hadn’t felt like that in a long while. If she ever got the chance, she would want to join the quidditch team. "Yeah. I’m Ava. You’re Clair, correct?" Ava thought so, but she wasn’t sure. "How are you?" Ava was taken aback. When had anyone asked her that? "What?" She blinked her eyes. "What did you just say?"
ReducioAva thinks about quite a lot of things. Especially how Clair just asked her how she was. @Clair Fernandez

(Un)Welcome back!

Ava seemed shy, Clair could not remember if the girl was shy the last time they had met. She would be shy as well if there were rumors that she had attempted murder. And even if the rumors were false they could have still made her feel like she was a bad person, rumors could really make a person feel bad about themselves.
Clair nodded, "Yeah, I'm Clair Fernandez."
After she had asked how Ava was the other girl seemed taken aback. Clair smiled, "I asked how you are doing." She said gently, she had never seen someone surprised by a question like this, but Clair wondered if maybe such rumors had scared people away from talking to poor Ava. It was really unfair of people to be such jerks, no one could ever know what people had been through, Clair was a strong believer that everyone had a story and they should not be judged until they had been given the chance to explain themselves however much they wanted to. Clair pushed a stray hair out her face, the hair had fallen down a bunch of times and she was rather annoyed at it, she was giving half a thought of pulling it out, but decided to just leave it.

"Yeah, I'm Clair Fernandez." Ava smiled. At least her memory hadn’t been lost along with her conscience. There seemed to be a lot of things Ava lacked. Like a control to her feelings. Or common sense. The smile drooped just as quickly as it had come. Lots of things seemed to be hard to come by these days, and smiles were one of those things.
"I asked how you are doing." That’s what she thought she had heard. She closed her eyes and almost automatically answered, "Fine. I’m fine." It seemed so natural to say, although it was a pure lie. A lie. Thats what it was. And she was determined to be better than she was before, so that meant no lying."Y’know what, no, I’m not fine. Your being so nice to me, but haven’t you heard?" Haven’t you heard? Haven’t you heard? Haven’t you heard? Haven’t you heard? Haven’t you heard? Should Ava had said that? She doubted it. She could’ve at least enjoyed a few more minutes of a clear conscience and a normal conversation. Although the conversation wasn’t exactly ‘normal’. It was Clair being super kind (as usual, now Ava knew why Colin howled for her) and Ava being mopey and sad. Ava again reconsidered running away and trying to escape this awkward conversation. No, her morale compass may be off, but it wasn’t completely broken. She couldn’t just run away from things that were tough.

(Un)Welcome back!

The Ravenclaw watched as the first year's smile faltered. Clair felt bad for the younger girl, she knew the feeling of wanting to smile but not being able to. Surely she knew the feeling for a different reason, had Ava lost a family member? Clair hoped that whatever had been troubling Ava was just the rumors, maybe they had been tearing the other girl down.
Clair noticed how Ava said she was fine, it was like she was trying to convince herself that she really was fine. Clair raised a eyebrow and sucked in her inner lip involuntarily, when she realized she had done so she quickly returned her face to normal, Ava did not need to think that Clair did not believe her.
It was only a second later that Ava admitted she was no fine, again the broom racer was filled with pity for the Slytherin. She realized that the rumors were most likely true, but she still gave the benefit of the doubt. "The rumors? Yeah, I've heard them." Clair shrugged, "But I will not believe them until I hear it from a reliable source." She bit her bit her lip in thought, "Which is not a bunch of students standing around in the hallway talking about their shades of makeup or which person they think is cute." What Clair defined a reliable source to be she did not say, she figured that Ava could decide that herself.

Clair seemed to be good at watching Ava. She seemed to always be like this. Observing. Watchful. Surely she had heard the rumors. Clair didn’t seem to miss a detail. Nothing.
"The rumors? Yeah, I've heard them." Clair shrugged, and Ava stared at her even more confused than before. If she had heard the rumors, why wasn’t she freaking out? "But I will not believe them until I hear it from a reliable source." Ah. That explained why. But hadn’t she heard the same rumor multiple times? Wouldn’t that show that the rumor was most likely to be true? Although, if she what’d heard was even near what Ava assumed was drifting around the school, Clair probably was relieved Ava hadn’t grown a second head. "Which is not a bunch of students standing around in the hallway talking about their shades of makeup or which person they think is cute." That was true. The rumors around Hogwarts usually proved to be wrong. Usually. Although, there were certain rumors Ava was sure were true. Like the rumor that Kim and Bailey were dating. She had even attended a bash in their honor earlier last winter.
Ava realized she had been staring off over Clair’s shoulder for awhile. Ava stood up, wanting to get it over with. "Well I’m a reliable source. It’s true. I tried to hurt Lucian." She stared at Clair with defiance in her eyes, daring the older girl to deny it or get mad at her. Or do anything, really. Ava was surprised they were still going at this conversation. Ava had thought they would for sure be done as soon as Clair had seen her face.

Clair was pretty good at acting like she had no emotions, it was a defense she could put up her sister called it her poker face. Sometimes she found herself doing it without meaning to, other times if she needed it she had to fight for it to cover her emotions, it only worked about 70% of the time anyways. Sometimes she would burst out laughing, or do something else to crack the façade she had built. Today however, when Ava said that she had tried to her the Slytherin boy Clair let her emotions cross her face. But they were not anger or fear, they were hurt.
She was 99% sure Colin shared a dorm with Lucian which would have mean one way or another Colin would have known. Why had he not told her? He could have been hurt! Clair's mind fought back and told her she could have asked him, but it had never crossed her mind, had it simply never crossed his either? Clair looked at Ava, she again felt a fresh wave of pity for the younger girl. "We all make mistakes, what is important is do we learn from our mistakes?" Clair said, she did not need a response she just wanted Ava to think on it.
"I have to ask one thing though, was Colin there? He never said anything." Clair still stayed calm, but Colin would surely be hearing about this, again if he had been there he had been keeping things away from the people who could help him.
