Frankie had been in the Owlery for a very long time now and discarded piece of parchment surrounded her, most of them having scratched out words and ink blots on them. She was sitting somewhere in the corner of the room, resting her letter on one of her study books, Hogwarts, A History.

Eyebrows furrowed, Frankie scribbled fiercely in jagged cursive, but she was so caught up in what she was writing that she didn't even notice, which was very rare. She liked being neat and organized and right now she was almost the exact opposite of that. Her face was a little red and her fingers were dark with ink; she looked so disheveled and upset, she was even biting her lip.

Suddenly Frankie heard voices nearby. There were other students but they hadn't really paid any attention to her, probably because she was in a darker area. Owls were sleeping nearby, oblivious to the small Ravenclaw who writing her heart away, literally.

Forgetting about the noise she'd heard, Frankie read what she'd wrote so far in her head, her cheeks turning pinker. "...I don't know why I like you in this way but we can be just friends, I'm just a first-year anyway. But I hope you like me back-"

Frankie scribbled the entire thing out and threw the parchment to the ground, her face warm with embarassment. She sucked in her cheeks and leaned her head back, utterly at lost. She'd never felt any way towards anyone and this was all new but extremely humiliating. No one knew about her feelings towards the second-year but she felt like they did.

Frankie gathered up her things and quickly threw all the wasted parchment away. A student looked at her but she pretended not to notice, knowing her face was still pretty red. That's when she had an idea.

Frankie got another parchment, ripping off a tiny piece, and wrote, It's no good to be in love. This is what she'd tell herself everytime she had feelings. She didn't to lose focus on the important things.

That's when she got up and, not paying attention, bumped into someone. The parchment slipped out of her hand and in alarm Frankie leapt to grab it, but she ended up slippint on hopefully not owl droppings and knocked against a cage. Owls squawked in anger as their cages fell and caused a great noise. Meanwhile Frankie the First-Year was on the ground in heap, covered in owl food and droppings. She was utterly embarrassed but she just sat there trying to control her anger. "I'm sorry, I should've paid more attention..." she said, now her little love parchment lost innthe Owlery.

Scott was in a hurry.

He didn't actually have anywhere he needed to be, only the case was he'd just now remembered the two-weeks old letter he'd written for his mother, hidden as it had been underneath a pile of untouched books, and was rushing to send it as soon as possible. She didn't like not hearing from him, he knew this.

Plus, the Owlery never smelled very good. So there was always that reason to hurry.

Although as anticipated, such hurry did not pay off. Scott found himself stumbling forth with his hands pressing the letter to his chest and his eyes fixed on the floor, so as to not step in anything nasty, and so he didn't look up properly enough to realise he was quickly heading towards a smaller girl, oblivious of his inauspicious approaching.

Bumping into her, Scott's head flew up instantly at the noise rather than the feeling of the push. And it was a terrible one. The violent rattling of cages was joined by angry squawking and the girl apologising, and to this Scott traced his horrified face with his hand before exclaiming:

"Sorry! Oh, so sorry.. don't apologize! I mean.."

Taking a step forward, and cringing at the sensation of something smearing against his soles, Scott reached out his hand for the girl to take. Though she at the moment was quite red and flustered, he could swear he didn't recognise her anyway. This made him fear she was a first year. Oh he hoped she wasn't. You don't want to trip up a first year, that's just cruel.

"I mean it was my fault. kept looking at the floor.. I should help you up! And ready those, too.."

Scott hinted towards the cages before attempting a smile, one which twisted into an awkward mix of friendliness, guilt and plead.

"Scott Alexander."

Trying to gather composure, Frankie accepted his help and dusted herself off, hoping to whoever was up there that her face wasn't red anymore, but she doubted that it wasn't. It was hard to hear anything over the squawks of the owls and the sounds of students coming to see what happened - or laughing, for the matter. She was dirty and embarrassed, to eliminates that went well together if you want to be a laughingstock. Frankie wish she could be in her room meditating instead of here. Why did she even right that letter? She had no hopes of getting the attention of any oldee student, let one a prefect.

Even though she probably spelled really bad, and looked even worse, she felt like this Gryffindor wouldn't really care about that, but she still was very ashamed of herself. Hiding her discomfort behind a mask of calmness, Frankie said, "Right now it doesn't matter whose fault it is, we should just clean up the mess before any professors see what has happened."

She didn't want to tell him her name, in case somehow it went around that a first year named Zagar nearly destroyed the Owlery less than a month into the school year. She ran her fingers through her hair, feeling something that definitely wasn't shampoo in there. Frankie frowned and began cleaning up. "You don't have to help if you don't want to-"

While gathering the pieces of parchment, Frankie noticed one with red ink on it. She knew this time that her face was beet red. Snatching it up and stuffing it into her pocket, the young Ravenclaw avoided eyes with Scott, almost breaking composure. What was it with her and older male students?

Letters were so dumb.

Considering the paper she used to draft out a letter, then the paper she used to mess up on her final draft of her letter, then finally the actual letter itself, Ami considered letters to be extremely unfriendly towards the environment, which was the exact opposite of what she strived to be. Text messages... now, those were efficient. The recipient would get them immediately after you sent them, and they didn't take three sheets of paper to create. Plus, the poor owls!

But, Hogwarts didn't appreciate the No-Maj creations of technology, and Ami would have to respect that as one of its many students. Letter to her mother in hand, Ami took several detours to many different places before finally reaching her intended destination. How could she not stop by Hogwarts' piano? How could she not stop and say hello to her favorite paintings? She wasn't avoiding sending this letter, no way, she was on very good terms with her mother, for once...

A loud clattering echoing down the stone staircase coming from the direction of the Owlery made Ami pick up her pace. If someone had knocked something down, they'd need some help calming down the owls, as she knew they tended to become quite agitated rather easily.  Taking the steps two or three at a time, the Hufflepuff burst into the Owlery with a stony expression, surveying the scene before her.

Ami knew that she could look scary sometimes, when any light or happiness was completely banished from her face; when her stare hardened into a glare and her mouth was set in a perfectly straight line. She tried to avoid this expression, however, as people would coo and exclaim, "Oh, you look just like your mother!"

She didn't want to look like her mother.

She couldn't stop this expression from surfacing on her face, however, as she took in the two students and the mess in the Owlery. She heard the girl, a Ravenclaw, insist they clean up before any professors saw. Smart girl, she knew to avoid authority. The other student, a boy, made Ami bite her lip and shake her head. Completely ignoring the other girl entirely, she strode over to her best friend, expression twisted into one of concern. "Scott? What on earth happened?"

Reassuring the girl that of course he'd help, and beginning to place the cages in upright positions again, Scott jumped in his twitchy state at a very familiar voice, and turned around.
"Scott? What on earth happened?"
"Ami?" She was definitely not the first person he'd pictured meeting there, as she'd never struck him as the letter-writing type.. But there she was: envelope in hand and with a concerned look on her face, and Scott began fidgeting with his sleeves as with Ami there he was now even more embarrassed than before.

Placing another cage a little higher up he threw nervous looks from his friend to the poor girl, and from the poor girl to the mess.. "Well I- it appears that once again I'm a proven danger to this school." He turned to the girl with an apologetic smile. "Knocked right into this one, created quite the mess.. And didn't you drop something, too? Terrible. I should be locked up!"

Then he crouched down to grab number of letters that'd flown around in the confusion, facing away from the both of them. Was this karma? He forgets about his mother and the universe sends owl droppings smudged against fine paper? He stood up with the bunch in his hands and looked carefully from one to the other.

"Just came to send a letter, savaged a Ravenclaw and a group of owls instead.." He smiled awkwardly and shrugged his shoulders. "What about you, Ami? And.. Ravenclaw. You didn't tell me your name, I realise now! Here, place these on the table, would you?" He handed the letters to the girl. "What are you both here for?"
