I walked up to the train still trembling. My father had woken me up at 4 in the morning and told me I was going to Hogwarts. A place I hadn't believed existed until Dad had taken me shopping at Diagon Alley yesterday. I yawned, I know why the earliness was important but that didn't change the fact I needed more sleep.
I boarded listening to the chatter coming from the different compartments looking for an empty one. Thankfully I found one, I pushed my trunk onto the shelf, and collapsed into the bench hearing the crunch of dead leaves in my hair. I tried to pluck them out. I was going to grab my hairbrush from my trunk, when I remembered I'd prioritized some of Mom's essential oils instead.
"Oh, dash it all! We really should of just gone through the front door instead of the orchard!" I'd say giving up on pulling all of the little bits of leaf out of my hair. I looked out the window; the train was still in the station so I watched as families bade goodbye to one another. Of course my Dad had hugged me and told me goodbye, but I still felt bad for not telling mom about this. It seemed nobody else was going to join me in the compartment, so I tried to take a nap.

Last year today, Enrico started one of the most amazing journeys of his life. And even though so much time had passed, it all felt surreal still. To walk through a wall and board a magical train, the scent of sugary sweets and the chatter of witches and wizards had felt the same way he did the first time around. In complete honesty, he feared that he wouldn’t relate to the whole thing as he originally did. It’s not every day you find out you’re a wizard after all. However, all those tingling emotions had come back to him the second he had said his goodbyes to his oddly-muggle family and boarded the train.

Although there were a lot of reoccurrences and similarities between the first time around and now, Enrico intended to switch things up. Now that he knew his way around the train, he had prepared a rather unique surprise for his fellow students and intended to welcome the new first years wholeheartedly. Not that he had a target in particular, it was whoever fate decided to bode as unlucky.

Along his trunks and satchels, Enrico had brought with him a small brown pouch made of a fine leather that was mostly tattered. Had it looked proper, one would easily assume that he’d be carrying something somewhat valuable. What was in it was rather important to him, but not to the average twelve-year-old. See, once he had gotten on the train, he did not immediately join his fellow Hufflepuff friends or anyone else, he had asked them to wait for his return and kindly carry his things with them because he had some ‘business’ to tend to. He had said it with the widest of smirks - from ear to ear.

Once the pathway was mostly clear and eventually almost everyone had settled down in their compartment, Enrico crouched behind the entrance to one where a group of Slytherins were cackling and chattering. He tried to overhear their conversation to make himself feel better and justify what he was about to do, but when he realised there was nothing to pick on and quite frankly there was no need to, the Hufflepuff acted swiftly.

He carefully and slowly slid the compartment door open and then proceeded to open his small satchel. In it was a dungbomb wrapped in a soft beige blanket. His hands felt greasy and icky grabbing the stinky sphere, but it did not bother him at all. Almost like he had done this a hundred times already, and perhaps, he did. Without hesitation or remorse, the rolled the thing inside the compartment and it only took a couple of seconds for the panic and chaos to start.
“Colloportus!” He tried to whisper, but the excitement had got him all giddy so his voice squeaked. His wand aimed at the compartment’s lock. There had been a tad of anxiety that his wand would fail him once again, but it seemed to work when Enrico was up to no good. And this was another one in the books.

Ha ran to the other side of the train so fast he almost fell. The fact that his shoelaces weren’t tied up didn’t help either. While sprinting, he looked out for an empty compartment, and at the sight of an empty seat, the boy rushed in, opened the sliding door as fast as he could and then slammed it close. To his surprise, however, there was actually someone dozing off. He had hoped for an entirely different space, but this would do. He just needed to act innocent.
“I’m so sorry to startle you,” Enrico flashed his braced teeth and smiled widely. All he needed was a halo above his head.
“Seemed like there was some chaos going on while trying to find a place to sit. I lost my friends, you see.” He chuckled very awkwardly, “but I wouldn’t know what’s happening, of course.”

Just as Marietta was about to fall asleep the door to her compartment slammed and she jumped. "eeep!" A boy who looked to be about her age but had a house crest on his robe came in. okay its a second year...I think, just be cool Marietta. She'd take a deep breath hoping he didn't immediately notice she'd come from a muggle family and walk out. “I’m so sorry to startle you,” he said smiling wide and flashing...braces. Marietta tried to hide her overwhelming relief, he had some muggle heritage which meant he probably wouldn't judge her. Hopefully wouldn't judge her. Plus, he had a nice smile so he must be okay.

“Seemed like there was some chaos going on while trying to find a place to sit. I lost my friends, you see.” He said chuckling without humor which seemed strange. “but I wouldn’t know what’s happening, of course.” That statement made it seem like he did, but again the smile seemed genuine and Marietta knew how hard it was to smile around her. Letting that slide Marietta nodded "Course not I hope everybody's okay though," she said looking at the compartment door hoping nobody was hurt in the ruckus. "are you sure you don't know hat happened I'd hate for them to delay the train or something because there was a problem"

She said her doubts starting to get to her. what If I don't get to go to wizarding school after all? What if they just send me home and get the train started the next day except then mother will be on to me and dad. Then mother won't let me go and her and dad will get a-Marietta halted the train of thought there. At some point she had started pacing but that didn't matter now something the boy said had just reached her through the murk of her thoughts.

"I'm sorry did you say you lost your friends?!" She asked horrified at the idea of getting separated from the people you know in a place as big as this magic train. "If you want I would more than gladly help you find them! nobody should have to be stuck in a compartment with some stranger when they have friends to chill with" especially when I'm the stranger' she'd mutter that part under her breath. She looked at the boy with dead seriousness then realized she was probably scaring him with her oddly fiery hair and weird dead leaf bits. Well, to late to take it back now just have to wait for his response.

It took too much resilience for Enrico to hold himself from letting out a laugh that would quite frankly blow away his cover. Not that he intended to have one, but he was pretty confident in playing the role of the innocent and although he did not have anything planned in case he was to come across someone while making his getaway (because Enrico was very careless) he found a quick getaway to secure his innocence. If anything, he intended to take this opportunity and use it to his advantage. Shall anyone start questioning the who’s and why’s of how a dungbomb found its way into a compartment within the Hogwarts Express, Enrico now had someone to rely on to cover his timely absence.

Did he know this girl? No. But he was very great at making new friends. Or that’s what he enjoyed telling himself.

“I’m sure whatever it is, is no big deal at all.” He tried to reassure the stranger, knowing full well that it was a complete ruckus out there. From a distance, the whole lot could hear coughs and sounds of pure disgust, and Enrico was revelling in it as if he was hearing his favourite Summer hit song on the radio.
“Nothing seems to stop this magical train, so I wouldn’t really worry about any possible delays if I were you! I bet both of my socks that even if a dragon was to land on it, it’d keep going until it gets to Hogsmeade!”

Enrico had the attention span of a goldfish, and even though he wished he could see what was happening outside the compartment he was in and genuinely wanted to focus on savouring the moment, he couldn’t help but make a couple of assumptions about the girl in front of him. It hit him there and then that her face was rather fresh and not one that he could ever remember seeing before. But before he could have his questions answered, the girl expressed further concern. More neutral to Enrico’s misbehaviour, however, so he had a harder time providing further reassurance.
“Oh worry not, I’m sure they’re further down the lane somewhere, and I like strangers! They make the best acquaintances! I can’t get to know someone who I already know, can I?” For all Enrico knew, she intended to stay by herself throughout the entire ride, but the boy was clueless to any hints. Regardless of how obvious they seemed to be.

But that brought him to finally ask questions of his own.
“Are you new here?” He asked with genuine interest, as it only felt like yesterday that he too was inducted to Hogwarts.
“I can’t say I’ve ever seen you before, and I do remember lots of faces! I can recognise all the cows back home just from looking at their teeth!”

Marietta's eyes would go wide. Cows? Dragons?! Marietta paused for a moment barely containing a sigh. He was probably joking about the dragon landing on the train thing and identifying all the cows by their teeth was most likely an exaggeration but she could still ask about the cows. "You have cows where you live?! That's awesome! Oh excuse my manners, yes I'm new here! The name's Marietta and it's a pleasure to meet you!" She would say taking her seat, extending a hand, and mentally chiding herself for her poor manners. Though she was a little hurt by the acquaintance statement; who wants acquaintances when you can have friends? She should probably tell him that but she would never be that gutsy. "Also do you mind if I ask why you were in such a rush? You slammed the door awfully hard. Was somebody after you" A part of her wanted to try and politely bring into conversation how he was related to the mess going because after the way he's been reacting it's clear that he had something to do with it. Besides, it was probably an accident. Yeah that's it! Maybe he did something that made people mad without intending to and now he's hiding in here. Marietta could fully support that, especially if they were mad enough to chase after him for it.

It gave Enrico some manner of satisfaction to have assumed correctly. He was always one to lavish being in the right, even on small things like this, and even when no one argued otherwise.

The girl’s enthusiasm at the mention of cows got Enrico excited too. Finally, someone who was impressed by the mention of a mere, normal animal that did not have a hundred legs and spoke the human tongue.
“Yes!” He replied, almost launching off his seat, “plenty of them actually. Mum and Dad own a farm. It’s where they get their food from for their diner. Got pigs too, chickens, ducks, horses… you name it!” He missed the animals back home, but not enough to wish to return. He had missed Hogwarts even more over the summer. This was the first time in Enrico’s lifetime where he desired to return to school and skip the holiday season.

After having introduced herself as Marietta, Enrico held his back straight and smiled, flashing his braces in the process. He took her hand with his left, making the handshake not just informal, but also very awkward. Especially when he kept on shaking it for more than just the usual couple of seconds the average person would.
“My name is Enrico! I was new last year, which means I’m a second year.” He said that with a hint of disbelief, as it always felt like a surprise every time he realised he had made it through a magical year without blowing himself up.

Then rolled in more questions, and even though it felt like he was being interrogated for being a suspect in committing the world’s biggest crime, the thrill of having to act innocent filled Enrico with a sense of adventure.
“Oh yeah,” he then chuckled awkwardly, “sorry for that, no one was after me. Why would anyone be after me?” He then asked, trying to shift the attention he was receiving to a hypothesis.
“Worry not! I was just getting a bit ahead of myself, I love the train ride, you see, and I can’t wait to get to the castle! You should be more excited than me!”

Marietta decided to drop it it was clear he was innocent. She liked his very mischievous smile though it clearly promised trouble with a capital T but it reassured her that even though her world had been flipped upside down it was still spinning, kids still got braces.

She would notice the oddities in his greeting but she frankly didn't care. She preferred longer handshakes, though there was a point in which things could get very awkward, this was not the case, for her at least. Once the handshake ended though she again felt bad for suspecting him of anything though Enrico didn't seem bothered by it. If anything he seemed...pumped?

Though her mother often chided her for asking so many questions she had to know more about a different subject in particular. "Your parents own a farm?!" It was Marietta's turn to nearly rocket out of her seat. She'd attempt to calm herself and almost succeed left with a bouncing knee. "That. Is. Awesome! So did you ever learn how to ride a horse?" she'd gasp "Do you eat your horses? Do you name any of your animals? Which ones your favorite?"

Marietta would bite down on her lip to stop herself from continuing. She'd hate to overwhelm her first chance at a friend at this school. She'd take a deep breath attempting to calm herself down again. "S-sorry about the question onslaught you don't have to answer those if you don't want to." She would hang her head and if one observed her closely enough it wold be clear that it was in shame.

"And to answer your question yes I'm excited as I am nervous that I won't fit in stuff. Though I'd always wanted to meet dragons and cast magic and stuff. I played a lot of those kinds of video games when I was younger." she said calming herself down by half rambling remembering playing her video games with headphones on and the volume all the way up so she couldn't hear her parents fighting. Marietta flinched inwardly at that though then straightened and smiled."See I'm so nervous-excited that its making me a mess" She'd say thankful he didn't yet know she was pretty much always a mess.
