Toils & Boils
Potions class was actually one of Arran's favorite classes. Maybe it had something to do with mixing ingredients or waiting to see if he'd done it right, but he really did like the class. Sometimes when he was bored in the dorms he found himself reading through his Potions book, more out of interest than anything else. And he was never late to this class, even if he were talking to his buddies and pulling pranks on other students.
Now Arran was sitting at the tables with other Hufflepuffs, head resting in his hand as they were taught about the Cure for Boils, which he'd never even seen before. No, maybe he has, but he never got any. As he flipped through the pages he saw grotesque pictures of people touching and covered with boils and it made him sick to the stomach. He glanced at his friend and made a barfing gesture, making them both laugh. But they stoo after receiving a look from their professor.
After a while of listening, they were instructed them to begin practice making the potion and conversations began around the room. Arran focused on gathering the correct ingredients, which included: six snake fangs, four horned slugs, two porcupine quills, dried nettles, ginger root, and a few other ingredients. Arran carefully gathered them up and made sure he had the right amount, a concentrated expression on his face.
While he was crushing the snake fangs into the mortar with a pestle, Arran heard a familiar voice and he looked up to see a girl with pretty hair, the girl he sent a secret note to. Strangely she gave him one back, even though he never put his name on it, but he liked her. When the professor was busy with a group of Gryffindors, Arran silently snuck over to the girl's table, standing behind her. Grinning mischievously at her friends, who giggled, he covered her eyes and whispered, "Guess which knight in shiney armour came to visit the princess?"

Toils & Boils
Potions was Kit's least favorite class. She hated it with all her heart, but she realized she needed this class to pass her first year at Hogwarts. She was a very smart girl and that often led to her being called a teacher's pet every once in a while. Maybe she liked to see other first years blow things up in their faces and her and Rorie laugh their heads off.
Kit was sitting a the Gryffindor table, twirling a strand of her long curly brown hair around her fingers as she and the other Gryffindor girls listened to Professor Valtome rant and rave about the Cure For Boils for the millionth time in the course of two days. Kit already knew about it, but she opened her book and almost dry heaved. It was so grotesquely illustrated in the book. The dry heaving noise caught the Professor’s attention and she gave Kit a nasty glare. Kit gave her a sweet smile and looked at her desk.
After Professor Valtome finished her rant, she instructed them to start making the potion with the ingredients laid out or in the Potions closet. Kit stood up and grabbed the list of ingredients off the table and got six snake fangs, four horned slugs, two porcupine quills, dried nettles, ginger root, and a few other ingredients, out of the Potions closet. She read the instructions and dropped the ground up snake fangs into her kettle, almost not doing it right.
Kit could see out of the corner of her eye some Hufflepuff boys goofing off and having a great time. She recognized one of the boys as her crush Arran Magdeleno and she immediately turned bright red and put her head down. There were giggles to the right of her as her friends saw her turn bright red. A few minutes after this, a pair of soft hands went over her eyes and a very familiar voice whispered in her ear. "Guess which knight in shiney armour came to visit the princess?"
Kit nearly jumped out of her skin but smiled secretly to herself. “Arran Magdaleno, did you really think you could scare me?” She said and then cursed silently in her head at the tone of her voice. She hadn’t talked to Arran since she had sent him that letter. She knew that he had sent her one because she recognized the curvy handwriting. "You aren't scary, love. You're just too handsome to be scary." She blushed pink after she said it.

Lol, Professor Valtome is a male, not a female.
Arran took his hands away and sat on the lap of a girl next to the pretty Gryffindor. The girl squeal and shoved him off, making him laugh. When she rolled her eyes and went to sit next to a friend, he took her seat and faced the girl, resting his head in his hand.
"It's very weird how you know my name, but I don't know yours. Care to tell me how you found out?" Of course Arran knew that people talked and she probably had her little friends tell her, doing spy work or whatever girls did these days when they liked a boy. Arran wondered how she found out that he'd wrote the letter when he told no one at all. Maybe it was his handwriting, which was the only neat thing about him. But how she'd said his name was as if she knew all about him already.
"You're pretty bold for a first-year, but that's what being a Gryffindor is all about, aye?" He felt a sting of jealousy and looked around; this was the type of people he wanted to be surrounded by, brave students who weren't afraid. He flicked at his own yellow robe and sighed. "So, do you need help? It wouldn't be any good if I were a knight who didn't do anything."

Oh! Man, I did not know that. *mentally slaps forehead.*
Kit watched as one of her friends shoved Arran out of her lap. A quiet snicker left her lips as he fell onto the floor. Her friend gave her a look as Arran took the seat in front of her which her friend had occupied.
"It's very weird how you know my name, but I don't know yours. Care to tell me how you found out?" Arran said to her and then Kit's heartbeat raced off in her chest, zooming about. She had had one of her friends find out Arran's name from one of their Hufflepuff friends, as Kit had a massive crush on him. She had noticed that his handwriting was the only neat thing about him while the rest of him was a mess.
"The girl you just pushed out of your lap found out from one of our Hufflepuff friends, love. And then she told me." She said and twirled a lock of curly hair around her fingers, something she knew made boys go crazy. He didn't know her name, so she figured she'd just tell it to him. "Katherine Manheim. But my friends call me Kit or Kitty." She held out a hand because she figured it was the nicest thing to do.
"You're pretty bold for a first-year, but that's what being a Gryffindor is all about, aye?" Arran said to her and she smiled. She was a very brave girl, sometimes. "Oh, yes. We are very brave. Gryffindors are the bravest ones. But other houses can be brave too!" She said and laughed. She saw him flick at his yellow robe and felt a ping of pity for him. She looked at her own red and gold robe and wondered if she was really meant to be in this house. "So, do you need help? It wouldn't be any good if I were a knight who didn't do anything." He said and she burst out laughing, the image of Arran as a Muggle knight was to funny to comprehend. "I do, love! I may be smart, but whoever said put snake fangs in here must have been entirely confused!"
