Natural Enemy... or Friend?
Sonya had awakened bright and early that morning to explore more of Hogwarts. She had been there a few days and still had so much ground to cover, the things she saw astounded her each day. She put on a t-shirt, jeans, and a jacket, just some casual clothing. She then walked through the halls, down the stairs and outside of the castle and to the grounds, passing a few early rising students on her way out. She loved being in nature, so naturally these were some of her favorite places in Hogwarts. She stoped for a moment, taking in the cool morning breeze, before deciding to head off to the Quidditch Pitch. Surprisingly, she hadn't seen it for herself yet.
She entered the pitch looking out onto the vast playing field. It was quite peaceful in the morning, with nobody there. Sonya had no interest in playing quidditch on a team while at Hogwarts but she thought about possibly getting a few friends together to play for fun sometime.
She walked around the pitch a bit then climbed up onto the spectator area. She looked down and then decided to go up further. She walked up about halfway to the top and stopped to sit down and relax. It's so peaceful, she thought.

Natural Enemy... or Friend?
Anastasia had woken earlier than she normally did and had decided to go examine the Quidditch Pitch. She intended to play on her House team all seven years, be Captain at some point in there (the sooner, the better), and go on to play professionally. She laughed a bit at herself as she walked down the unnervingly empty corridors. Maybe that was getting a bit ahead of herself, seeing as she wasn't even on the House team yet, but that had been her plan for nearly her entire life. Maybe the House was supposed to be Slytherin, but that didn't mean she would change her entire life plan.
She glanced down at her dress, a bit self-conscious of her clothing at the moment. The most casual piece of clothing she owned was her silk pajamas and all of her normal clothing was far nicer than what she'd seen other first years wearing. Her current dress, for example, was a light blue dress with a full skirt that hit just below her knees with a sash and complex embroidery on the bodice. She didn't have a problem with being overly fabulous, she just wondered exactly what the other people were thinking.
She reached the Quidditch Pitch and a rare, wide, truly delighted smile crossed her face. It was everything she'd ever imagined and more. She was in a dress right now, and anyway, she didn't have a broom at the moment, but she could just picture herself soaring through the air. At that moment, she actually looked like a thrilled elven-year-old, not a proper small version of her mother or anything else. She could already see her first game...
She was shaken from her imaginings at the sound of someone in the Spectator area. She bit her lip and resisted the urge to smooth her dress and hair. She hadn't actually done anything other than walk out there, and her hair and dress were still perfectly arranged.

Sonya sat for a bit spaced out in her own thoughts. She snapped back to reality when she saw someone enter the pitch. It was a girl who was exceptionally pretty and looked possibly around her age but was wearing very proper clothing. She tried not to jump to conclusions about this girl but she couldn't help but think she looked extremely fancy and overdressed for a morning walk over to the Quidditch Pitch. Maybe she was one of those purebloods who was brought into high society and were always acting rich and stuck up. She tried to shake off any judgmental thoughts before she actually met the proper girl. She noticed the girl looked overjoyed at that moment, What is she thinking about? Sonya wondered.
Sonya wasn't usually one to judge or jump to conclusions but for some reason today her mind was all over making assumptions about this girl. She decided to go meet her before she could form anymore unproven ideas.
Sonya walked down from the spectator area as she saw the girl notice her. She climbed over the benches and went down into the field. "Hello. I'm Sonya. What might you be doing out here?" Sonya asked the attractive girl as she came up the field to where she was and held out her hand to shake.

Anastasia examined the girl as she approached, mentally categorizing the girl before she even spoke. She seemed decent enough looking, and certainly far cleaner than that little street urchin from the night before. That girl had been filthy and Anastasia honestly wondered why they even allowed her on school ground. Her outfit was stylish, but not as expensive or formal as Anastasia's. Overall, based on her looks anyway, she seemed like alright company, at least for the moment. Anastasia would make further judgments as they spoke.
She noted that the girl climbed over the benches as opposed to simply walking around them. Maybe it was a bit quicker, but Anastasia knew that if she had done that at home, she would have been in quite a bit of trouble with her parents.
The girl introduced herself and held out her hand to shake. Sonya was a rather interesting name. It wasn't as elegant as some of her childhood friends, but she rather liked the name. "I'm Anastasia Beckett," she replied, shaking the girl's hand. Despite the fact that the girl hadn't given her surname, Anastasia had been bred to always introduce herself as a Beckett. "And I was just coming to look at the Quidditch Pitch. What are you doing here?"

Sonya recoiled a bit at the girl's name. Anastasia Beckett, The girl who had been so mean to her friend Rorie. Nevertheless, she had never actually met the girl and wanted to draw her own conclusions so she followed through with shaking her hand. From what Rorie had said Anastasia was a pureblood elitist who had been rude about her economic status in the common room. This made Sonya have an automatic negative opinion of her but Sonya was never one to judge simply on someone else's interactions, she would just have to find out about this girl for herself.
She examined the girl closely, she was pretty overdressed. Which did make sense if she came from one of those rich high society pureblood families. Sonya never understood those families. The purebloods who put their wealth and status on display and thought everyone else was scum. She thought that they were slightly selfish and should respect other people more. She was brought up in both the wizard and muggle world so she assumed Anastasia would dislike her if she found that out.
"Just exploring as well," Sonya replied to the question, "I've never been out here before, it's very peaceful."

"It is, isn't it?" Anastasia said agreeably. "It's certainly more so than the Gryffindor Common Room, although that's hardly saying anything." The Gryffindor Common Room was quite loud and vivacious, but not necessarily in a bad way. Sure, it wasn't the best when Anastasia was trying to focus on a homework assignment, but that's what the library was for, right? Anyway, she'd had more fun in the Gryffindor Common Room in the past days than she'd had any time before that. Someone was always doing something and there was always someone willing to start talking.
It occurred to her that she had absolutely zero idea what house this girl might be since she wasn't in her robes. She'd gotten quite used to seeing other students in their house robes and she hadn't even thought to ask. "What house are you?" she inquired. She didn't recognize the girl from as a Gryffindor, although that didn't completely rule her out since Anastasia hadn't quite been at her normal level of face memory while she was adjusting to Hogwarts. The girl struck her as Ravenclaw or a Hufflepuff, probably a Hufflepuff, just based on her general demeanor and the fact that she didn't have a book with her. Nearly all of the Ravenclaws she had met so far had had books with them no matter where they were.

"I'm a Hufflepuff," Sonya said with a smile. She knew the girl might look down on her because of it, but she didn't particularly care. She just wanted to get down to Anastasia's true personality. Some people like her looked down on Hufflepuffs because they thought they were just happy and dumb, however, this wasn't true. Hufflepuffs were actually typically smart and there was much more to all their happy faces than people thought.
Sonya tried to think of her friend, Rorie, when she was talking to Anastasia. Rorie had said she had been rude to her but Sonya was trying to view Anastasia fairly and come to her own conclusion about her. Still, being kind to her in some way felt lie a betrayal to her friend. What if she did end up actually becoming friends with Anastasia? It would be kinda crazy to tell Rorie, hopefully if it did happen it wouldn't tear any friendships apart.
She turned her attention back to the pureblood girl, "So, how's Hogwarts been for you so far?" she asked. "I've loved it. The castle is remarkable and the classes have taught me a lot so far. Most of the people seem very nice as well."

Anastasia nodded at the girl's confirmation that she was a Hufflepuff. She'd made friends with a few Hufflepuffs so far, and they were all rather lovely. Her cousin Amelia had been in Hufflepuff, so Anastasia didn't have the same disdain for Hufflepuff that her parents did. Although, her aunt and uncle had ended up disowning Amelia just before her fourth year since "the house was wearing off on her". Still, Anastasia didn't dislike Hufflepuff nearly as much another Pureblood might.
"I love Hogwarts so far. The castle is a bit, well, quaint, but the classes are quite enjoyable, and most of the people I've met so far have been most lovely," Anastasia replied. Keyword being most, she thought. She could think of a few notable exceptions, but obviously, she wasn't going to lead with that. While she did love gossip, that was for later on, when she knew she could trust the person. She still hadn't decided whether or not she could see herself becoming friends with her. She didn't automatically hate her the way she had Roxie from the night before, which was also a good sign. She supposed she would just have to wait and find out. "Which class is your favorite so far? I know I positively adore charms."

Sonya listened to Anastasia talk. She said most of the people were lovely but didn't say anything about not getting along with anyone. And if this girl thought the Hogwarts castle was quaint she must be very rich, Sonya was in awe of the sights of Hogwarts every day and thought it was quite grand for her taste.
"I really like herbology," Sonya said in response to Anastasia's question, "The professor is really nice and I love learning about all the different uses of plants," She gushed about herbology. Sonya was slightly surprised herself about how much she loved the subject, she always saw herself as more of a curled up with a book in the library type but for some reason herbology just really clicked with her.
"Anyway, what clubs are you doing?" Sonya asked, "Are you interested in quidditch?" Almost everyone she met was interested in quidditch, she however was not. "I'm not particularly interested in quidditch, too aggressive for my taste. Both on and off the pitch. I do love just flying casually. As for clubs, I joined the WINGS club, which is a group to help people. I also joined a band and drama club which seem fun," She smiled. "How about you?"

"I like Herbology far more than I expected to, and Professor Wright really is quite lovely, isn't she?" Anastasia replied. Neither of her parents had faniced Herbology or History of Magic. So, Anastasia being Anastasia, those were two of her very favorite subjects. She did prefer classes where they learned spells, like Charms, but she really did like those two subjects.
"I joined this club called Wonder Women, which is basically just a club for awesome girls supporting each other and all that," Anastasia told the other girl. "And I'm on the Gryffindor newspaper staff, although that's not exactly a club per say. As for Quidditch, I just love it. My mother was a professional player when she was younger and I intend to do the same. It's not for everyone though. It can get rather violent, depending on who you're playing." Anastasia's eyes lit up when she began talking about Quidditch. She just loved it and couldn't wait to try out for the team. She hoped that she would make it, seeing as there were plenty of second years who, like her, had been playing since they were small and had been on the team last year. Still, she knew she was quite good and couldn't wait to try out. "Are you a musician then?"
