Never Too Early to Hit the Books Closed

Masika looked away, the heat slowly draining from her cheeks as Sariel spoke. Her gaze trailed over the books near them, and she snorts softly at the pale girl's meandering chatter. "Lockhart's the one that landed 'imself in Saint Mungo's isn' he?"

Not really expecting an affirmation, she shrugged lightly, "An' I was on my way tae find a book I saw in the card catalog 'bout House Elves. You could check the catalog for any Herbology books—" She trailed off when Sariel's stomach decided to make itself known and quirked her brows in amusement as the black-haired girl began prattling away again.

She slipped her hand into her sweater's left pocket, much further than it rightfully should have, and her fingers settled on the cool flesh of an apple. She hesitated a moment, not sure if this was a good idea, before she drew it out of where she had been keeping it and held it out to the girl, "Lunch isn' fer a few minutes yet. If you're hungry I have this..." She trailed off and gave Sariel a stern look, "Jus' be careful 'round the books this time." She gave the other girl a probing look, then tacked on, "An' try not tae get caught with it."

Sariel eyed the delicious jewel of a fruit whose bright skin stood in stark contrast to Masika's darker complexion. It looked so good and her stomach felt oh-so-empty after having skipped breakfast, an idea that seemed a poor one. Her hunger even over rode the in evitable question of why the girl was wondering around with apples in her pockets, especially if she was going into library where she made it clear she dissapproved of anything that might possibly harm a book. "I'll be-" she cut her voice off quickly and cleared her throat- "Ah quiet about it. Thanks." Taking the apple in her free hand, she gazed at it only for about three seconds before chomping into it with a loud crunch.

The pulp was sweet and almost too juicy, causing a small trail to leak at the corner of her mouth. Whoops. Quickly, she used her thumb to wipe at the runaway juice and chewed happily while she gazed at Masika, then turned her attention to the shelves. "So you said you were looking for a book on -crunch- house elves? I saw a section near the back by the restricted section that included other magical creatures and people, I think that's where they would be. Want me to show you?"

Masika quirked her brows as Sariel half-blurted a sentence before the other girl caught herself and spoke more quietly. When the other girl took the apple and looked at it as if it were a golden apple directly from Idunn's Garden itself, Masika's lips quirked into an amused smirk. When juice seeped out of the girl's mouth she rolled her eyes and shuffled around in her pocket again.

By the time she was elbow deep into her own pocket, she found a napkin and pulled it out to hold out to Sariel, "I'm guessin' the back you mean the width of the room. From what I've read, a lot o' the library is ancient if you go too far down the length o' it, an' people hardly go back there." She pursed her lips and shoved her hands in her pockets to warm them, "Makes me wonder what all is back there that's been forgotten."

Masika looked further down the aisle they were on before looking to Sariel. Her dark eyes settled on the pale girl and she shrugged, her tone dry, "Don' think it'd be a good idea to get lost in the library on our second day here though. Since you don' seem tae mind leadin' the way, let's go find that section you were talking about, yeah?"
