2023, Stage 2 Slytherin vs Ravenclaw: Match 1

Guinevere was unsure on when her standards had lowered from "hit Ravenclaws with spells" to "surviving is good enough for now". This round, as she saw Gemima's flipendo coming at her, she ducked, feeling the spell whoosh right past her. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Adelaide firing less successful version of Incendio Duo, which she had to count as a victory, however small. Even she could correctly cast it, even if her aim was way off.

Oh for the love of--

Not only could he not land any spells, now the Ravenclaw captain was making eyes at him? Perfect. Just perfect. Exactly what he needed. At least it distracted his opponent for a moment; and he would take any wins that he could get at this point.

"Never seen a boy before, Barlowe?" The words came easily, taunt and condescension all rolled into one.

Adelaide scowled. Perhaps she had gotten too cocky too soon and had jinxed herself, because for some reason she had failed to even cast the Incendio Duo she was going to aim at Ming. The boy appearing to momentarily distract her, and her scowl deepened at his teasing, "Oh, ha ha. How funny," she spat, "but unfortunately, I've had the misfortune of seeing plenty of boys before."

Gem had narrowly missed Guinevere too, but it was okay. The Slytherins still weren't hitting with their spells, so they were still doing good. And Adelaide would not let her focus waver for the rest of the duel. Even if engaging in a battle of words was fun, it was distracting. Something they couldn't afford right now.

So far, so good!
Gem had shot a jinx in Guinevere's direction, only for the slippery snake to duck out of the way. She wasn't too rattled, however. Observing her opponent told her that their previous attacks were quite effective. It wouldn't take much more until the other girl was down for the count. Just as long as there were no more distractions.

Speaking of which-- Adelaide seemed to have flubbed her own spellcasting. As Gem prepared for their next move, she wondered what could have caught her partner's attention. Surely it wasn't Ming over there, right? A duel was a strange place to be all moony-eyed, and for an opponent, no less.

Guinevere was no longer doing well, only her dedication to practice was what saved her from a worse fate as her spell didn't go off as her wand refused her for just a moment. Has the snake's luck ran out? Perhaps it did a while ago considering how this match was going. Because while Ming got quite close to hitting his target, Adelaide managed to escape harm's way just barely and decided to play more serious now and hit the female viper with a knockback jinx, which alone would have been enough to bring her to the brink of unconsciousness. If Gemima hadn't had the same idea and masterfully cast a second knockback jinx that crashed into the girl, now collapsing on the stage. Alan winced and quickly paused the duel so that the med wing helpers standing aside could do their job and give the girl some first aid. Once that was done, Alan spared another glance at the girl to ensure she seemed fine and resumed the duel, focusing his attention back onto the match.

[Spectator Thread, Day 1: Morning]

Alas.
Things kept getting worse and worse, anyone spectating could see. She herself know that, once her stupid ass wand starting fucking malfunctioning. Where were the legendary aspen wand duelling powers??? Did the stick have to leave Guinevere helpless when she needed it most? Seriously!
To make matters worse, Ming’s spell didn’t hit on target either, missing the Ravenclaw.
And it was at this moment, friends, that she knew her end was near. So much for that.
Two wands pointed in her direction, two identical incantations were said, and two Flipendoes were flung her way. Fun. Doing her best to maneuver out of the way, she found no luck, and in rapid succession, both spells hit.
Her vision clouded on the edges, and she found she couldn’t hear what was happening around her again. Trying her best to maintain her dignity unsuccessfully, her vision went white and blurry and too shiny, and Guinevere fell against the wooden floor of the Duelling Club.

Well, this was turning out to be downright abysmal duel. Where the last duel he could not DO anything because he was being constantly attacked, in this duel, the bespectacled Slytherin could not do a thing because he wasn't being attacked.

It was almost as if the universe was mocking him now. Six rounds in -- or was it seven -- and he was facing two duellists by himself.


Great. Brilliant. Perfect. He'd just have to overcome this. Somehow

A smirk made its way onto her face as she dodged out of the way of Ming’s Flipendo and sent a successful Flipendo towards Guinevere, which would’ve already been enough to knock the Slytherin girl out, if Gem’s Flipendo hadn’t also hit. She might’ve felt some sympathy for the girl, since getting hit by two Knockback Jinxes was not exactly the nicest feeling, but Adelaide felt more elated by how this duel was going for them.

One down, and her and Gem were more or less unscathed, save for the Tickling Charm that had hit her earlier. They’ve got this. Taking a deep breath, she turned her attention to Ming.

Whatever luck the Slytherins had on their side seemed to have started to run out.

Gem winced as Genivieve hit the floor with a soft thud. That was the first person she'd actually knocked out with a spell, and it couldn't have felt great to be on the receiving end of two Knockback Jinxes.

But at least now they had an advantage. Gem tore her eyes away from Genevieve's unconscious form and channeled her focus towards Ming. She felt a small smile growing on her lips.

Alan was quite aware that the three remaining duellists seemed to be realizing how dire the situation was and that the end of the duel was fast approaching. Ming's attempts to cast a spell would finally pay off as his tickling charm would rush towards its target and hit Adelaide who attempted to retaliate with a quite powerful rendition of the improved fire making spell. But her aim was off and so she would not manage to actually hit the viper back. Her team mate, Gemima however seemed to have been struck by the same sort of inspiration or luck and their spell was equally masterfully cast and did indeed hit the Slytherin boy; yet another Tickling charm active on the piste. It was quite a odd spell to be cast on someone, forcing uncontrollable fits of laughter, so strong it was actually painful to endure them.
