Budding Roses
I waved to my grandpa from my seat for the last time, sitting back to watch as Platform 9 3/4 disappeared from view. My older sister, Vanessa, is a sixth year so she sits with her friends. I'm in my own compartment with my baggages and supplies, staring out the window in thought. This will be my first time at Hogwarts and I only know from what I read in Hogwarts, A History, but now it's almost like I forgot what I read, which was near impossible. I stacked my books on the seat next to me and read them over again, like I did almost a thousand times already, chewing on my lip.
I think that most people would go try make new friends while on the train but I could studying and getting ahead in class at this time. I spent most of my free time during the summer doing that anyway, unlike my sister, but she's a Gryffindor and they usually don't focus that much on schoolwork. I hope I get into Ravenclaw so I can talk to more people like me, more people who like to criticize the world because it's such a strange place.
My mind wandered to my grandfather, who'd be all alone for the next many months. Usually we did a lot of traveling and went to visit my relatives in America. But now he'd have to do that alone while I'm at school learning about how to be a great witch, which I know I'm destined to be. All I want to do is try my very best to become a great magic user, so I'm going to focus as much as I can on my studies, but I do want to make friends. Seven years is a long time, almost have of my life.
As I was thinking, I noticed a girl walking pass. I'm not sure if she was just walking around or didn't have anywhere to sit, so in case she didn't, I quickly got up and peeked out the doorway. "Hullo, this compartment is free."

Budding Roses
Sam had almost refused to go onto the train and had to be dragged on by her cousin. She didn’t want to leave her home, her parents, or her odd assortment of uncles and aunts. Sam shouldered her backpack and sighed, she would be a long way from home. The whistle for the train blew again and Sam started to wonder down the compartments, a lot of them were already full and she wasn’t in the mood to deal with many people.
She forced herself back into thinking about the good points of the journey, like magic and making friends. Maybe she shouldn’t pick an empty compartment on the journey, her mother had told her that making friends was her prerogative, and her father always said, ‘Make friends or enemies on your terms, don’t force yourself into it.’. She kept walking down the hall watching as people in compartments talked and played games.
Suddenly Samara heard a voice, “Hullo, this compartment is free."
Sam stopped short and turned to see a short-haired blonde girl peeking out of the compartment at her.
Sam smiled at the girl and slipped into the compartment, chucking her backpack down next to her on the seat, “Hi, I’m Sam. It’s nice to meet you!” She exclaimed happily.
