"HUFFLEPUFF!"

With the voice still ringing so loudly in his head, it took a moment for Arthur to realize that it had spoken this word out loud. A cheer went up in the hall, and he turned his head to the right. On the table decorated with yellow and black students were smiling broadly, drumming their hands on the table loudly, and beckoning energetically for him to come over. He reached up, only to find that the hat had already been removed from his head by the teacher behind him. The next name was already being called and the next anxious student already walking down the line towards the stool to replace him.

Standing, he began to move cautiously towards the table that had been celebrating before, assuming that must be where he had ended up. What was their name again? Oh, right. Hufflepuff. Duh.

While other students who had recently been sorted made their way towards the table, those with family or friends already in the school were being welcomed boisterously into the fold by large swaths of older students. The bravest of them might jump straight into that fray; they all seemed friendly enough. But Arthur hoped they wouldn’t think him rude as he headed instead towards the end of the table. Other first years who had just been sorted into the house were there as well, and he was hoping to sit with some other students from his year as he tried his best to process this all.

Hovering over the long bench, he looked around at other students, trying to pick out any he recognized as first years from the boat ride over, or the long wait in the halls before they were sorted. "Hey! Is it alright if I sit here?" he asked.

This thread is primarily for first year Hufflepuffs to RP arriving at the House table, but is open to second year students as well! Anyone is welcome to consider themselves already at the table, or to join after being sorted later.

What a start to the school year, Beth thought. A hat basically decided one of the most major parts of the next 7 years of her life. Supposedly the hat was never wrong, though, so she supposed that counted for something. But still!

Either way, Beth had dazedly made her way to the end of the long table. There was cheering, but it was drowned out nearly immediately as the next student was assigned her house. And it felt like it was taking forever for her to reach the end of the table. Maybe she was just overly conscientious after the public choosing of her house. She had some expectations, but not a whole bunch.

In either case, she finally slid onto the long bench, where not too many others were near. At least here she had a moment to collect her thoughts about her House & her future at Hogwarts. A Hufflepuff - loyal, friendship, and nice. That summed up a Hufflepuff, right? Beth supposed those weren't going to be that hard of expectations to live up to. But at the same time, she wasn't entirely sure what it meant to be a Hufflepuff. But... That would change as time went on.

In either case, the Hufflepuff table begin cheering again. She made a weak, small cheer in an attempt at solidarity but it was easily drowned out by... Well, any of the other students.

Beth nearly jumped when she heard a voice extremely close to her asking about sitting. She had been so focused on herself, the cheering, she had completely zoned out. She gave a nod and a quick, "Sure, yeah. I just got sorted here too, but um, welcome to Hufflepuff!" That was a start to making friends and stuff, right? Either way, at least it was a start of talking to another student.

Hestia had been called up just before the boy who had just sat down at the table. They were both "M"s, but Hestia was struggling to recall his first name - Archie? Alfie? Arthur, yes, that was it. Somewhat happy that she'd remembered the boy's name, she turned to him and the girl he was talking to.

"Hey, I'm Hestia," she introduced herself warmly. They were both first years, and they both seemed pretty pleased about their new house - well, at least Hestia thought they did. Hestia herself was quite excited - she hadn't thought that Hufflepuff would be an option so she hadn't particularly researched it before arriving at Hogwarts. Had she known what she'd be sorted into, she'd have read up all about Hufflepuff in Hogwarts: A History.

She snapped out of her thoughts and turned to the two people in front of her. "Are you guys happy about being in Hufflepuff?" she asked them, trying to sound as neutral as possible. She didn't want to make them seem like they couldn't be honest - she was interested to know about what her new housemates thought about the house. It wouldn't hurt to get to know them.

Laila could not believe that she was sorted into Hufflepuff. She expected to be a Slytherin, so being in Hufflepuff was a huge surprise. Laila walked over to the Hufflepuff table and sat down next to a girl she was positive she never saw before.

Laila looked around seeing a lot of new faces. "Hello everyone, I'm Lailaflora Ruby. But you can call me Laila" Laila said smiling. "Hey, I'm Hestia" The girl Laila had been sitting next to said, although she seemed to be talking to someone else. "Are you guys happy about being in Hufflepuff?" She asked. "Yeah. Hufflepuff seems great don't you think? I think what I am most excited bout is meeting new people. My dad told me that Hufflepuffs are Social Butterflies he also told me that Hufflepuffs are kind. Anyway, are you guys happy being in Hufflepuff?" Laila said to the girl, and the person she was talking to. Laila really hoped that she had not interrupted a conversation.

Laila really wanted to get to know new people, but she did not want to be rude doing it. She knew that if she was more social than she usually was, things would be better than they were in the muggle school she attended  before she went to Hogwarts.

Arthur nodded and smiled gratefully at Bethany when she invited him to sit down. It's not like he really expected anyone to say no, but it was just a habit of his to always ask first. "Thanks!" he said. "You too, I guess," he added as he sat down on the wooden bench of the Hufflepuff table.

Another cheer went up, and Arthur briefly turned his head to look, attention drawn automatically to the sound of the noise, without really meaning it to be. He was suddenly glad, for another reason, tat they'd sat on the far end of the table. With the Sorting Hat still shouting names, and tables cheering the additions to their house, it was a little hard to hear anything else.

The table was laden with all kinds of food, but with the nervous excitement of Sorting Ceremony not yet dissipated, and the butterflies still in his chest, Arthur wasn't sure he was hungry just yet. Instead, he focused on the other two first years that were sitting near by him. "I'm Arthur," he introduced to other girl who was sitting there -Hestia- who, he remembered, had gone only a few name before him. As for her question, "It's hard to say.. I guess I didn't have very strong opinions going in. Though it's kind of a shame, I had some friends that got sorted somewhere else," he answered honestly. That didn't seem very positive though, so he quickly added, "I mean, I think it will be fine though! Right?" Right?

The next girl to join them certainly had the right attitude about it. She seemed extremely excited to be put in Hufflepuff, and he wondered briefly if that had been her preference going in, or if she was just a generally kind of bright-side personality. Looking around, he thought of another topic to add to the conversation, "Are there any subjects you're looking forward to?" he asked. "Personally, I can't wait for Care of Magical Creature. But I don't think we get to learn that until, like, third year!" he said regretfully.

Laila looked at the food and was about to take some, before the boy she was sitting with asked what subject she was looking forward to. He was looking forward to care of magical creatures. He looked disappointed because it wasn't taught until third year.

"Well, you just have to be patient no biggie" Laila said trying to cheer him up. "I'm looking forward to transfiguration" Laila told him. Laila found transfiguration interesting. "Anyway flying is taught here. That sounds exciting doesn't it? You could look forward to that" Laila told him. "Also there is charms. My dad told me that in charms makes life easier. That sounds nice doesn't it?" Laila told him.

Laila wanted to change the subject. "What's your favourite food and desert?" She asked him. "My favourite food is Pizza" Laila told him. "My favourite dessert is Ice-cream. It might seem unhealthy, but I still eat fruits once in a while." Laila said.

"Also, what are you looking forward to at Hogwarts? Apart from Care Of Magical Creatures" Laila told him. Laila looked around the great hall. She looked at the floating candles. "The candles look cool don't they? I have never seen anything like it before" Laila told him. "The food also looks really delicious" Laila said looking at the food on her plate.

Hufflepuff. That's what Arran Magdaleno was, a silly Hufflepuff. What a joke. When he was riding the Express here he talked to Gryffindors and made friends with them, figuring that he should start because he'd get into the House of Lions. His parents always boasted about how brave and courageous he was, always sticking up for people he cared about and being the modern example of a knight - which his friends loved to tease him about - but now he was definitely going to hear it from his father about being a badger, of all things. Was this a trick? Where were the muggle cameras?

Arran kept a cool grin on his face as his chosen House cheered with possibly fake delight at having a new member but as soon as it died down and he was trying to find a seat, Arran's face fell into a deep frown. He felt embarrassed, almost, but he had to admit that it kind of made sense for him, since he was someone everyone seemed to be able to count on, even older people.

But still, the fact was that he wasn't sitting with his older brothers, who were Gryffindors. He pretended to not feel their stares from across the students as he sat down amongst the other Hufflepuffs - the ones who probably belonged in the House.

While thinking of his little problem, Arran happened to hear the excited and bubbly voice of another first year, a girl. He glanced over, wondering if she were particularly pretty, and saw that she was talking to some other students, a boy with nice ears and a girl with red hair and freckles. Typical. These three would probably be friends for life, possibly even date or something gross.

Arran didn't really like being in bad moods, though, so as the sorting went on, he gradually grew restless and figured it wouldn't hurt to talk to the nice girl and her friends. Since there were a few empty seats near them, Arran went to sit next to the guy and said, to the girl, "I particularly take delight in our meal this evening, especially the desserts, but I'm sure none of them are as sweet as you, princess."

Arran grabbed a few different slices of cake, ignoring the actual entrees, and took a bite. Eyeing the boy next to him, he said, "Hullo, I'm Arran." He stuck out his free hand. "And you guys?" He looked at everyone else, still chewing.
