Courtney wasn’t about to waste her free time. Courtney is ambitious, today was an example of that. When she had down time during her classes, Courtney would read stories about witches and or wizards. The stories and characters were fictional, of course, but that doesn’t stop her from wanting to be just like them. But how would Courtney achieve that? By using the same spells as them! Even if the spells were way beyond her capability.
Courtney raced to the library. If she is gonna learn spells, she needs to know how to actually do it. From all the times she’s spaced out in class (a terrible habit of hers that suddenly started after coming to Hogwarts) she’s at least learned that you need to understand a spell before casting it. Before going to the library she looked through her many books and checked them thoroughly. The process must’ve taken her an hour or so, an exhausting process, but she was dedicated. More dedicated than passing her classes.
Back to the present. There she was, running to the library like her life depended on it. The professors probably told her to slow down not knowing that Courtney was most definitely not listening. After all, she *must* become like heroes in the stories she reads. She makes it to the library and starts looking. Unknowing, Courtney forgets the rules of the library and takes a book that's usually for 2nd years and so on.

No, no, that’s not it, no…

After looking for quite a while, Courtney finally finds the book of advanced spells! She reads the book carefully. Once she’s finished reading she starts to attempt to cast the spell. Obviously, it backfires. It left Courtney with some pretty bad burns on her hands with a few sparks flying all over the place. Wow! For an advanced spell… nothing THAT bad happened.
As Courtney winces in pain, she notices in the counter of her eye two kids running up to her, and not too later the librarian.

Dora looks up from her book in alarm at the noise. There's a flash of sparks from around the corner. 'What was that??' She thinks in alarm, putting her book down and getting up to investigate. Is someone casting spells in here? Sparks aren't very safe in this kind of setting. It could catch on a book page and start a fire!

But then, what if the sparks with intentional? Dora learned about the Red and Green Sparks Charms in Defense Against the Dark Arts at the beginning of the year, and she remembers that sometimes people send up sparks when they need help. Her stomach sinks when she thinks someone could be in trouble. Dora steps out of the little corner she was studying in and goes towards the commotion. Hopefully the librarian is nearby, since she doesn't know how much she could help.

Dora turns the corner to find a girl about her age by a shelf with some advanced books. There's a smoky smell to the air, and Dora sees that the girl's wand is on the floor and she's looking at her hands. "What's going on?" She asks, looking her up and down. "Is everything alright?"

Linda was sitting in the corner of the library, writing her thoughts in her diary. It was nice to look at the window, weather seemed to be great. I still need to do some homework and read more. Maybe I could go to walk for some time, but now I want to read about animals.

While she was searching for a book to read, she noticed sparks, oh did someone try to do some spell or someone needs help? But why would they use sparks in the library, it could be quite dangerous. She looked everywhere in searching for the reason for this sudden thing. A girl, standing with her wand on floor and her looking at her hands, whatever she tried to do, it surely backfired on her. There's no one caring about it as if nothing happened, but there's another girl seems to coming to her, but whatever, I'll go to know if she needs help.

"Hey, what happened? Are you okay? I saw sparks and it didn't look like planned."

But what was this girl trying to achieve? and why here in the library? I didn't look if someone else is coming, but I believe librarian surely noticed it too and is coming here, it could be so dangerous. But well, maybe this girl really wanted to do some spell, I hope she didn't hurt herself. She looks like she might be in pain and her hands, now when I am closer, don't look not injured. "Hey, did you hurt your hands? Did you hurt something else?"

Surrounded by magical children, Mateo had quickly learnt that he could never expect normality from students such as these. Each new day came with new surprises, and today of course would be no exception to that.

Even so, he was still alarmed when he saw sparks emerge from the shelves. Abandoning whatever he had been doing at his desk, he rushed over to where he saw three girls, one clearly having attempted something she ought not to have, the other two seeming to have seen similar sparks to him and had a similar reaction.

"Excuse me," he would approach the injured girl. "Can I have a look?"

Carefully, he would take her arm, and notice the painful burns on her skin. Wincing for the girl, he scanned the surroundings for an indication of what had occurred as he let go of her arm.

"You two," he turned to the others there. "Do you know what happened to her?"

As he waited for their responses, he'd turn his attention back to the injured girl. Of course, he was worried for her well-being. The burns didn't look too severe, however he was definitely considering sending her to the hospital wing. "Does it still hurt? And how badly, on a scale of one to ten? Ten being the highest, and one being the lowest."

Courtney was dumb. Stupid even. Only now it hit her that, hey, maybe don’t try to cast advanced spells? Otherwise you’ll end up with a burnt arm! Though the warning is too late now. As the librarian waits for her response.

“Um, eight?”

Need all truth, Courtney has already forgotten his question let alone the other two girls’ questions that came to her first. She was too focused on how much trouble she’ll be in, and the burns on her skin too. Getting detention was not on her bucket list, but neither was getting injured.
The thought quickly came to her that she should apologize for the mess she’s caused.Sparks and books don’t mix after all! She could’ve hurt people around the area as well. And plus, better apologize now than later, right?

“I’m so sorry for the trouble I made. I didn’t mean for this to happen, I swear, I’ll take any punishment that waits for me.”

Now, Courtney is a slow talker. In fact she’s slow in a lot of things, like for example, answering questions and this entire situation! But to her surprise, the apology came out fast, quick even for her. Quickly negative thoughts start to flood her brain and Courtney, who can’t control her emotions well, starts to tear up.

What a night this has been huh?

Dora's not the only one who saw the sparks, it seems. Shortly after she arrives, another girl with light brown hair and a green headband comes over with similar concerns.

"Hey, did you hurt your hands? Did you hurt something else?"

That's when Dora looks a bit closer and sees the angry redness on the first girl's hands. She's hurt! Dora's appalled she hadn't noticed, and immediately turns to look for help when the librarian arrives. 'Thank goodness.' She thinks, but it's not surprising. The librarian is always nearby to help when she's been here, whether it's finding a book or... this.

"Can I have a look?" He asks, and when he takes her arm Dora sees the extent of the damage. Burns on her hands and arms, no wonder she wasn't responsive to her questions.

Dora straightens up when the librarian turns to her and the other witness, asking what happened. "N-No, sir!" Dora answers nervously, feeling suddenly quite out of place. When the librarian turns his attention back to the injured girl, she starts crying, which makes Dora feel even worse.

“I’m so sorry for the trouble I made. I didn’t mean for this to happen, I swear, I’ll take any punishment that waits for me.”

It's obvious to Dora that the girl didn't mean to do any of this. She's still not sure what exactly happened, but with how much pain she seems to be in Dora doesn't really care. She wishes she could think of something comforting to say, but now she's afraid of how the librarian might react. Is he going to yell at her? Ban her from the library? What if he writes home to her parents? That poor girl...

Dora looks to her side at the girl with the green headband, lost. "Wh-What do we do?"

These burns on her hands look serious, I suppose it must be very painful. It looks like whatever it was supposed to be, it injured this girl quite much.

Oh, librarian came, I guess he will know what to do. I just hope he won't decide that we were doing something with this girl, it would be bad to be misunderstood for wishing to help, but on the other side he is great person so he surely understood already that other girl and I just came here just like him. I got so lost in my thoughts that I missed when he asked us if we know what happened, I need to answer him.

No, we came just some seconds before you came, after we saw sparks, but she didn't answer what happened, I guess she is in a lot of pain now."

This poor girl said it's right, but it looks like it could be even more painful, she started to cry, she must be scared now, surely she now realized that it was dangerous to do but I'm still wondering what she tried to cast. She is in so much pain and seems like her emotions will take over her now, I guess we need to bring her to hospital wing and meanwhile try to support somehow although right now I just feel so sorry for her and can't find anything for how to support her. It surely can't be something like why did you do it and why in library, that's bad that she tried to cast something in library, but it's better that she did it here than if she would do it somewhere else. Here's at least librarian who would help her even if we didn't come, beside I don't know about another girl but for sure I don't know how to heal burns and what to do if sparks from wrong casting set fire or hurt someone else. Librarian should know what we are supposed to do, I guess he will tell us, but obviously this girl needs to go to hospital wing.

The other girl looks nervous, she asked me something, why I am always in my thoughts...

"I suppose she needs to go to hospital wing, we could maybe go with her and try to support, she really needs it now. Then I don't know but I guess he will tell us what we should do now."

Mateo took a deep breath in. He ought to have expected this-in a room filled to the brim with various knowledge, there would be some that would seek to aim higher than they could potentially handle.

"An eight, right. That's not great."

He listened to what the other girls had to say, and hearing they weren't seemingly involved in this accident, he could breathe a little more. He understood the thirst to learn from the injured, it was something he'd experienced himself, and since she hadn't technically broken any rules he had no reason to issue any punishments to them. Besides, he figured this painful burn would serve warning enough to avoid attempting things similar to this, at least for a considerable time.

"You aren't in too much trouble, don't worry. Though I would hope you would have learnt your lesson for the time being. Now, you two," he pointed at the two that had come running at this girl's yelps. "Take her along to the Hospital Wing, the Nurse will be able to get this treated a lot better than I probably could. Come along, we don't want this burn to get much worse now, do we?"

So that was it. The final decision was made. Courtney and the two other girls weren’t going to be punished, thankfully, but it was most likely Courtney wasn’t going to see them again. The world might be small, but Hogwarts was huge.
The two girls must’ve noticed Courtney’s tears falling down her face as their faces showed pity. ‘Poor girl’ they probably thought. She tried to hide her face and brush away the tears that were still their way down her cheek. Embarrassment is the best word to describe how Courtney is feelling. Courtney was also thinking of introducing herself to them as well, but then second guessing herself because saying “Hey I’m Courtney O’Riley, the girl who burned her hand and almost got you two in trouble.” What a great way to make a first impression, right?
After making herself more presentable, she stood up and started to speak.

“I’m sorry once again. What a way to introduce myself huh? Oh and thank you for helping me.. er.”

Pausing, waiting for them to say their names, if they wanted to of course.

“Right, I should do the same. I’m Courtney O’Riley. From Hufflepuff.”

Stupid, stupid, stupid! They probably already knew you were from Hufflepuff just by your uniform alone.

“So um, I guess our next stop is to the Hospital Wing.”

The girl in the green headband looks much calmer than Dora feels right now, suggesting they wait to see if the injured girl needs to go to the hospital wing. 'That makes sense.' Dora thinks, wishing she could be as confident right now.

Dora waits nervously for the librarian to say something, afraid he might be mad. She knows realistically there's nothing she did wrong, but it's an intense situation and she's worried. The librarian doesn't get mad, though. "You aren't in too much trouble, don't worry. Though I would hope you would have learnt your lesson for the time being." He says to the girl with burned hands, and then turns to Dora and the other girl. "Now, you two, Take her along to the Hospital Wing, the Nurse will be able to get this treated a lot better than I probably could. Come along, we don't want this burn to get much worse now, do we?" He instructs. Dora shakes her head, glad he isn't cross about this. The injured girl already seems like she regrets whatever happened, so Dora would feel bad if he scolded her.

She's still crying, and Dora tries to think of something, anything she can say to make her feel better. She comes up short, not very good at talking to new people. So, instead she just says a quiet, "...Hello."

After wiping her tears away, the girl seems to find her voice. “I’m sorry once again. What a way to introduce myself huh? Oh and thank you for helping me.. er.” Her eyes are red and she still looks a bit distressed, and there's an awkward pause where Dora figures she's supposed to introduce herself.

"Isadora Everridge." She mutters, eyes darting away anxiously.

“Right, I should do the same. I’m Courtney O’Riley. From Hufflepuff.” She says, though, Dora could already tell by her uniform as she probably could from hers. “So um, I guess our next stop is to the Hospital Wing.”

Dora hums in agreement, and looks to the third girl. She quietly hopes she'll take the lead on this.
