Attire: Usual weekend kit: Slytherin pride, neck ring, kilt, no shoes. Nothing fancy!Reducio

23 December 2022
The Christmas holiday was upon Hogwarts and the whole place looked so festive! From huge Christmas trees to streamers of ivy and bunches of holly and wreathes everywhere! As Colin wandered the corridors, the other kids were in high spirits, dragging their homeward bound baggage behind them.
Colin had no such baggage. He had hoped to travel with Clair to visit her place. It was a farm and it sounded so grand! She clearly loved animals, even more than he did, and it would have been cool just to be with her in what he imagined was her happy place. Well, one of her happy places, anyway! That girl seemed to be as happy in the library as out on the grounds! And that suited Colin just fine! But no. The only thing Colin had with him this morning was a letter from home. A letter saying that he must remain at school.
Colin found that his feet had wandered all the way to the small hall. He would know this even in the dark, for his bare feet had come to distinguish the variations in stone and wood and tile in almost every part of the castle. He looked around and sure enough, the doorways to the great hall stood before him! He shrugged. Might as well go in and see who's hanging out!
He started skipping. Without even realising it, he avoided the Slytherin table altogether. In fact, his feet had led him right to the Ravenclaw table! His first thought, of course, was that perhaps Clair would be there, nose in a book, biding some time until she had to go down to Hogsmeade Station for the long ride home. His thoughts also turned to Sophia, another Ravenclaw friend. Surely she should be here too? He hadn't seen her since before the ball.
But no. Colin stepped up onto the bench and walked along it for a short distance. When he did finally sit down, he found himself face to face with a girl. Her long dark hair was done up in a pony tail and her dark eyes were on him, eyebrow raised. He smiled at her, placing the opened letter on the table between them.
"GemGem!" he cried. Gemima Sable! She was one of Colin's oldest friends. He was truly excited to find her here --- surely not by accident! "Lassie, I haven't seen you in aaaages!! Well, not since the ball, but we didn't have much time to talk then!" He nodded towards her own baggage. "I see you're all packed. Must be heading home?"

She finally skidded to a stop inside the huge doorway, only to start power-walking straight towards the Ravenclaw table. It was almost time to leave for the holidays, and she absolutely could not afford to be late for the train ride back home.
Gem did a mental check as she went. Her trunk was floating in the air behind her, and her backpack was slung securely over her shoulders. She had packed her books, sketchpad, water bottle snacks, scarf--oh, and her raincoat, since it was probably going to be raining back home. Gem took a deep breath and quickly sat herself on the bench, nervously fumbling with the hem of her sweater. With a wave of her wand and a murmured incantation, her luggage followed suit.
(Misto immediately vacated her shoulder, and stalked off to find a spot further down the table.)
I think I've got everything I need, She thought, glancing around. Something still feels off, though... Gem pursed her lips and tapped her fingers on the wooden tabletop. Come to think of it, the hall was strangely empty right now, given the King's Cross group should be leaving soon. Where was everyone? Besides her, there were only about seven other kids in the Hall.
She frowned and went to rummage in her bag's front pocket. Gem pulled out a neatly folded piece of paper. She'd copied down the allotted departure times the day before. Squinting at her handwriting, she scoured the parchment for the correct instruction and--
Her wand clattered onto the table as she stared at the parchment.
"Shit." Gem slowly leaned forward and rested her chin on her hands, then let out a quiet groan. She had misread the times completely! The dark haired girl bit her lip and snuck a peek at the other students in the hall. Now what??
Gem was well into her self-induced implosion (filled with plenty of internal screaming) when the table and bench suddenly shook with an unknown prescience. She blearily looked up at the interruption, ready to tell whoever it was to sod off and bother someone else. But then her eyes lit up in recognition, and she straightened up to greet an old friend.
"Colin!" she exclaimed. "Didn't expect to find you here." She smiled wanly at him and nodded awkwardly. "Yeah, I am. Or was. I mean, not yet! Ugh." Gem resumed her droopy position on the bench. "I got here too early," she said, folding her arms on the tabletop.
"Like two hours too early! I don't know what I'm going to do with myself for that long. I mean, I guess I could draw, or read, or something." She sighed and blew a stray strand of hair out of her face. "Just feeling sort of stupid right now." It honestly wasn't that bad of a situation. It was just that she had gotten herself so wound up for no good reason. At least she wasn't in danger of missing the train...
Gem cleared her throat. "But yeah... how are you doing? I'm sorry that we haven't had time to chat. Maybe you'd like to keep me company for a bit?"【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】

"Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"

Colin laughed. People often didn't expect to find Colin where they found him. "I was making my rounds, you know, just checking on things! Something told me that the great hall was where I had to be, and here you are! All of two hours early for your train? That's smart thinking, eh? If I were going home, which I'm not, I'd probably still be packing." Colin nodded. "Then I'd come running about two minutes before the train left!"
Seeing Gem all packed made him remember why he wasn't going home. "You know Clair, right?" Colin sighed at the very thought of the lovely Ravenclaw! "She'd invited me to visit her place for Christmas. She lives on a farm in Cumbria! I thought that would be brilliant! But I got a letter from my Ma saying I'm to stay put at Hoggys for the whoooole holiday." Colin rolled his eyes dramatically.
Colin watched as Gem's kitty explored the table. He smiled, remembering how Gem dropped Mr. Mistofelees in his lap on the train ride back to school in September. "I reckon it has to do with what happened this summer. Werewolf attack at home. There's something she's not saying, but ... I don't know. I just wish I could go visit Clair!"
He winked at Misto. "So, what have you been up to GemGem? I mean apart from studying and living the dream up in Ravenclaw Tower? Have you seen Sage or Kim recently? I haven't had a chance to really see any of the old gang so far this year. I know Kim's been really down since, well, since Sophia --- disappeared." Colin still wondered about that. One day she was there, and the next --- poof! Gone. Just like she was never here. "So many kids just disappear Gem. I've been making a list! I reckon more than twelve just this year! I'm just glad you're still here!"
