'Today will be a good day!'
The Great Hall. Probably the loudest place Courtney has ever been too; so loud in fact that Courtney might lose her hearing. That doesn't matter right now, the fact that she's in Hogwarts right now, is the most important thing.

Courtney was, worried, she wasn't so sure to going to Hogwarts in the first place. Sure, is she glad to be here? Of course, but doesn't change the fact that she feels like she doesn't belong. The feeling was so strange to her, and the noise sure wasn't helping. Before coming here her mother was extremely happy over the fact that Courtney could use magic; a little two happy. All her mother cared about then was just her powers and how she's going to be so much like dad. Honestly, Courtney didn't care, she just wanted to be not as avenge then the other kids sure, but not this.

Suddenly the room got quieter as other children's names were called one by one. Now all Courtney could think about was what sorting she'll get. She went through the list and listed attributes that she had common or didn't have common.

Gryffindor, I'd like to think I'm quite brave at times but not prideful at all!
Ravenclaw, though I am studious and clever, but probably not to the amount as these kids-.

The kid next to her starts to stand and walk down. Oh no, she wasn't paying attention at all, what if they already called her already??? What would happen then??? Then another kid starts to talk to her.

"Hey are you all right? You don't seem that well," they say.
"Ah yes, I'm quite fine," Courtney says, "Never been any better!" It was clear that she wasn't fine, but the other kid wasn't going to push any further, when they really should've.

"O'Riley, Courtney."

Oh, OH! That was her name, they were calling her up. So, she didn't miss it after all. She stands and heads to the headmaster (who she has now just noticed). The headmaster places a hot on her head and she starts to hear a voice.

"You seem lost and confused."
"L-lost?"
"Indeed, but that's all right. One day you'll find your way to your path."

After a long pause, all she heard was.

"HUFFLEPUFF!"

Hufflepuff, maybe that might help Courtney. Just maybe.

Keep calm and keep writing!
Sorting Ceremony Sept 2022
1st September 2022

It wasn’t until Becca stood with her fellow first years and watched the sorting hat speak before she truly believed magic was real. Which was a little insane as she herself had accidentally done magic before, her father (the most grounded person she knew) had told her that her mother was a witch, and then she read her mother’s books about potions and magic that were left when the witch disappeared. Just a couple of months ago, the professor who came to her flat to tell her and her father about Hogwarts had done magic for them as well before telling them how to find Diagon Alley which was full of magic. For goodness’s sake, she thought to herself, she had ran through a bloody wall earlier that day!

Why was it just now dawning on her that magic was truly real? For the last two years, she had seen plenty of proof, and the last two months since she got her Hogwarts letter should have sealed that knowledge deep inside of her. Was she just in shock before all this and the hat was the breaking point?

And now, it wasn’t enough the hat spoke, but it was going to be placed on her head. On her head, where it could see into her heart and mind? Then with what it seen, it will place her in her house for the rest of her school career. Before Becca could even really wrap her mind around this, the hat began to sing, and with its song, all misgivings, anxieties, and confused fears faded away from her.
Because of course, this was magic. This was beyond her understanding and previous parameters of the possible. It was wonderful and fun, while also serious and important. She had skimmed her textbooks, she already read of some of the dangers of magic and was sure more would be revealed in the upcoming years. But why should that take away from the light-hearted fun and discovery of something new?

She let herself listen to the hats song and be swept away by the magic of the ceremony. Once the hat finished his song, Becca began looking around the Great Hall to try and preserve some of this to her memory. The bewitched ceiling, the thousands of faces already sitting at the tables, and floating candles. It all left her dazzled and excited for the coming years as she learned to be a part of this world. Finally, her name was called.

“Cross, Becca.”

She pushed her way through the crowd of first years and smiled back at the headmaster smiling kindly at her before the brim of the hat covered her eyes.

And what have we here? A thirst for learning and determination. Those are good traits. But what shines through is your desire to be just like the knights you have read about. Good, honorable, defending the weak before oneself. A good goal, to be sure, and I know just where to put you to help with that. Better be …

The sorting hat stopped speaking just to her, but called out the name for everyone to hear.

"GRYFFINDOR

Becca grinned as the hat was lifted off of her head and she hurried to the table full of celebrating lions. She sat with some of the first years already sorted into her new house and nodded at the other students offering her congratulations. She would worry about the fear and confusion of this new world tomorrow, but tonight was for wonder. Sitting back, she watched the rest of the sorting ceremony and hoped all the other first years were as happy as she was at the moment.

Sorting Ceremony Sept 2022
"Pinky Laveau!"

Pinky heard her name being called out in a loud, booming voice, and she felt her heart skip a beat. This was it - the moment she had been waiting for ever since she received her letter from Hogwarts. She took a deep breath and walked forward, feeling the eyes of every student in the Great Hall upon her.

As she approached the Sorting Hat, she could feel it studying her carefully, as if peering into the depths of her soul. She felt a sense of unease and anticipation wash over her, wondering what the Hat would say about her.

"Hmm, a curious mind you have indeed," the Sorting Hat said, its voice echoing in Pinky's mind. "And yet...I sense a deeper desire in you, a longing for adventure and a willingness to take risks. You may think that you belong in Ravenclaw, but I believe that your heart lies somewhere else...

GRYFFINDOR!!!"

Pinky took a deep breath, feeling a sense of both relief and uncertainty wash over her. She had never considered herself particularly brave or daring, but she knew that the Sorting Hat was right - deep down, she wanted to be part of Gryffindor more than anything. She felt a surge of pride and excitement as she made her way to the Gryffindor table. She practically bounced with excitement as she took her seat at the table, feeling a sense of anticipation and hunger wash over her. She couldn't wait for the feast to begin - after all, she had been on the Hogwarts Express for hours and was practically starving.

She watched and waited patiently as she gazed around herself, spotting her brother in his place at the Slytherin table who smiled at her reassuringly as she smiled slightly before turning back around as saw more and more of her year mates be sorted, as her mind went to the classes, she was eager to learn, looking forward to sharpening her mind and devouring all she could…

“Raven Emalia!” she heard and slowly but calmly made her way towards the stool and sat down as the Sorting hat touched her head…

“Well now let’s see what we have here ah another Raven eh? Your brother was a tricky one no doubt about that now let’s see if you’re the same…ahhh a thirst for knowledge no doubt about that hmmm creative as well your love of music speaks plenty for that…hmm you’re not afraid of hard work either…oh ho! What’s this? My you are an ambitious one I know EXACTLY what to do with you!”.
“SLYTHERIN!” the Hat shouted for the hall to hear and she couldn’t help the grin that spread across her face as the hat was removed from her head as she headed to the table decked in green and silver high-fiving her brother as she passed him as she sat down next to her fellow 1st years.

Glancing at every tiny detail in the Great Hall from the bewitched ceiling to the floating candles, Rosetta entered along with the other first-years. Seemingly enchanted by the interior of the Great Hall, she would nearly forget that she was about to get sorted into one of the Houses. Although she knew a thing or two about Hogwarts and the Houses due to her mother being a witch as well, Rosetta had no idea which house she wanted to be sorted in. Ravenclaw was the only House that had crossed her mind every now and then on the way to Hogwarts, partially because this is the House her mother was in. She had also given Gryffindor a thought, but she figured she wouldn't be brave enough to be sorted there. She wouldn't mind being placed in Hufflepuff either, but the thought of being placed in Slytherin was a dreaded one.

Rosetta waited patiently as the other first-years were sorted, until her name was finally called: "Mallow, Rosetta!"

As seemingly light-hearted as she was about this before, it was only now that she had realized that she was to get sorted into her House in front of the entire school. It was as if her shoes suddenly filled itself with lead as her knees grew weaker. Her thoughts began to race as soon as she walked to the front of the Great Hall. She faintly saw some faces of her classmates around her; as though everybody was looking at her. She hated being the center of attention in front of lots of people.

After a walk that felt like it had taken her hours, Rosetta now finally sat down on the chair as she felt the Sorting Hat was being put on her head.

"Ah yes -- another Mallow. I remember sorting your mother... She was a Ravenclaw. You have thought about Ravenclaw, have you not? Interesting... Hmm -- although I do sense a hunger for knowledge, I do also sense a strong will to overcome your fears, a great deal of bravery, if you will..."

A brief silence would fall as the Sorting Hat now shouted across the room.

"GRYFFINDOR!"

The other students in the Great Hall immediately erupted into cheers and applause, although it was the students in red who were making the greatest deal of noise. As the Sorting Hat was taken off her head, she quickly jogged off to the Gryffindor table where her new classmates greeted her with a warm smile.

“BELA REINHOLD!” a voice called out into the Great Hall, echoing throughout the room.
Bela froze suddenly feeling a rush of anxiety. She forced herself to move forward, clenching her fists, she sat down on the stool as the Sorting Hat was placed on her head.
Before she had even left home she wondered what house she would be put in. Her parents were sorted into Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. She felt that she had a good amount of Ravenclaw in her from how her mother described it. She was witty and loved learning. However she also felt that she was just and brave like how her father described being in Gryffindor. She secretly was hoping that she would be in Gryffindor. She loved the color red and gold after all.
“Hmm…Bela Reinhold..” the Sorting Hat murmured as it tried to discern where best to place her.
Bela clenched her teeth together trying not to let in how nervous she was.
“I see a great deal of kindness and self-sacrificing qualities.” The hat noted.
Bela glanced up at it as it spoke.
“Yes yes, you also like to learn and you believe strongly in justice. However, you care deeply about what those around you think and would do anything to help lighten the burden of others and often put others before yourself.”
(This is it…) Bela thought. (It’s got to be Gryffindor.) She couldn’t wait to tell her father that she would get to be in the same house he was!
“You are without a doubt a….HUFFLEPUFF!”
The Hufflepuff table erupted in loud cheers and clapping.
Bela was stunned! Hufflepuff hadn’t even crossed her mind. She was almost a little disappointed cause she was so sure that Gryffindor was where she would be.
However, reflecting on herself and looking back at the Sorting Hat’s words, she realized that she really was a Hufflepuff and was excited to embrace that fact. She got to learn something about herself she didn’t even know.
As the Sorting Hat was removed she made her way to the Hufflepuff table and was happy to see smiling faces greet her. She looked on as the other children began their sorting. She was determined to be the best Hufflepuff yet.

As all of the new first years walked into the Great Hall taking in the memorizing scenery around them. A young ginger red hair girl was among them, her name is Alana Dibble. Alana took in the scenery mesmerized her blue eyes staring up at the enchanted ceiling in uttermost awe. A smile broke out across the young eleven year olds face. She has read about Hogwarts, along with hearing stories from her family. Especially her older brother who graduated not to long ago from Hogwarts. Alana was glancing around scanning her surroundings looking over at all of the house tables. Wondering what house she would best fit in. Alana snapped her attention to the front of the Great Hall when she heard Headmaster Solomon start to make his beginning of the year speech. The young girl glued her attention to the Headmaster as a smile broke out across her face. You could say Alana was a bit more excited then nervous. Though don't let that smile fool you, she did feel slightly nervous, but the idea of a great new adventure seemed to empower her excitement. Once Headmaster Solomon finished his speech. Along with bringing out the sorting hat which sang his song. Making the girl think more on which house would better benefit her the most. Once the sorting hat stopped speaking and Headmaster Solomon started calling out names. He eventually called out Alana's name. Taking in a deep breath, Alana walked briskly up to the stool. Sitting on top of his as the sorting hat was place upon the young girls head covering her eyes slightly. As Alana sat quietly she could hear a little hum in her ear, her eyes glancing upwards staring up at the inside of the sorting hat.

"Hmmmm? I see... A very daring girl you are. Yes, hmmm. I see a lot of courage inside of you as well, quite brave aren't we? I know exactly were to put you.GRYFFINDOR!"

Once the sorting hat was removed from Alana's head the young girl grew a wide grin as she sped walked quickly to the Gryffindor table her heart swelling with happiness. The girl was extremely excited to begin her school year at Hogwarts.

They shouldn’t be nervous. They had been told all about the sorting ceremony by their parents, all three of which were in different houses.
This shouldn't be as scary as it felt, and yet they couldn't help but think, what if they were sorted into Gryffindor?
Their mother Niamh was a Ravenclaw, wise and intelligent. She had told them about how during exam times, the older students would prop the common room door open with a book, too busy studying to stop and answer the riddle.
Their father Hephaestus had been a Hufflepuff, loyal and just. He had mentioned the common room being close to the kitchens, reminiscing the times himself and fellow students would wander down there past curfew for late night snacks..
Their other father Daemon, a Slytherin, resourceful and ambitious. Just like his family before him, the hat had christened him a Slytherin before it had even touched his head. He had told Qrow all about the view of the great lake from the common room, recounting all the times he had spent watching for merpeople or the giant squid by the windows.
Qrow knew nothing about Gryffindor.

BEITHIR, QROW!

Snapping out of their thoughts, they took a deep breath before steadily making their way up to the stool and hat and as it was placed on their head, they couldn’t help the anxious chant that played in their head.
Not Gryffindor, not Gryffindor, not Gry-

Ah… A Beithir. It has certainly been a while. You know, it’s not often I hear ‘not Gryffindor’. Are you sure? You certainly have the nerve...
Alas, no - you’re right, I don't think Gryffindor will do…

Qrow couldn’t help the sigh of relief that escaped at that.
Slowly, time ticked by, the hat mumbling about each house as the seconds turned into minutes, and after sitting there for what felt like hours they we’re starting to get impatient.

Had it not been for the hat whispering in their mind and covering their eyes, successfully blocking the rest of the hall from view, the silent staring eyes that they could feel on them would have been enough for the young red head to scream in frustration.

Wisdom, loyalty, ambition… what to choose, what to choose
I don’t care, but for bloody hell sake, I’ve been here for almost 5 minutes. PICK ONE! Qrow thought angrily.
Hmm, on that note - yes, yes. I think you’ll do nicely in “SLYTHERIN!"

Sorting Ceremony Sept 2022
hogwart's great hall. she was here. amaris was here. finally, her sorting was just less than an hour before her. she knew, without a doubt, that she would be a ravenclaw. amaris' mother was no hogwarts alumnus, but amaris was sure that alyssa would have been a ravenclaw. alyssa was the mother she always looked up to, always admired. elspeth was a ravenclaw. that was a fact harold was not too keen on, but what he thought did not matter to amaris, nor to her cousin. elspeth was the smartest girl amaris had seen, and the eagle's house was always a best fit for her.

however, the knight family have always prided themselves on a strong slytherin line, interjected with a number gryffindors, here and there. amaris was no slytherin. she was not ambitious, nor was she cunning, as a girl who had always prided herself on her honesty and servitude. amaris was no gryffindor either, unlike her father (though, to be frank, he had his fair share of cowardly moments). she did not fancy herself as brave. in fact, she was an easily scared girl. hufflepuff blood had never mingled with the knights -- almost. when a rare hufflepuff occur, terrible things were said to happen to them, things amaris need not know. sometimes amaris felt like a hufflepuff. she was loyal and helpful, but her love for the badger house could never compare to ravenclaw.

ravenclaw. yes, that would be the house she would be sorted into. it must be.

amaris was snapped out of her thoughts as she heard her name called by the headmaster, professor solomon lear, 'knight, amaris!' that was her name. she was supposed to sit on the stool to be sorted. go on. every student goes through this. it won't be scary! it was scary, though. what if she was a hufflepuff? she'll probably never see elspeth again. what if she was a slytherin? that would be the cause of a celebration at the knight house, but it was a house amaris did not desire at all. she was no snake. there was not a drip in her blood that was self-serving. not a slytherin. no.

amaris stepped up shakily to the stool and sat down. professor lear placed to hat on her head -- it had begun. amaris reminded herself that everyone was nervous the first -- and only -- time the sorting hat would be placed on their heads. she would make it clear to the hat that she was best fit for ravenclaw. amaris was not a violent girl, but personally, she thought the hat should be burnt if it placed her in any other house. the perfect spell popped into her mind: incendio. burn, burn, burn. she was yet to learn that spell, but elspeth had provided a simple explanation on what it would mean for the target. harold had also demonstrated to spell on a letter he did not enjoy reading.

what are you thinking, dear? the hat's voice snapped amaris back into reality. it did not speak aloud, but the soon-to-be witch could hear it in her mind.

amaris scowled at such a private question, but proceeded to speak-think back to the hat. i was simply thinking how i would destroy you if i was not placed in my desired house. currently i am settling on a simple fire making spell.

the hat chuckled, causing amaris to frown. there was really no reason to make fun of her, especially in such a serious circumstance. i am indestructible, to be frank. but what is your preferred house, miss. knight?

indestructible. fair enough, for such an important hat. that made amaris wonder though, whether someone had tried to burn it before. she was startled as the sorting hat responded with a subtle 'no'. amaris bets that it was frowning, though it would be impossible to see under that hat's large brim. amaris cocked her head to display her displeasure, making the hat move dramatically.

so, what is your preferred house, miss. knight? the hat asked. it shifted slightly, and managed to get amaris' head back to it's usual place.

finally, they were getting on to official business. ravenclaw, amaris said telepathically. it was short, but it conveyed her point. that was all that really mattered. when the hat did not respond, amaris repeated her choice of house.

the hat seemed to sigh, if that was possible (but alas, anything was possible in the wizarding world), why ravenclaw? amaris knitted her brows as her mouth curled downward in annoyance. she had imagined her sorting in every spare moment of her time, and it always ended with the hat screaming 'ravenclaw!' after a mere second in the knight's presence. amaris had a feeling that it might not end like that. she did not respond.

the hat took this as a cue to continue on. i have sorted many knights, amaris. harold knight, your uncle, slytherin. maria knight, your aunt, slytherin. robert knight, your father, gryffindor. katherine knight, your cousin, slytherin. hatty, arabella, matthew knight, your cousins, all slytherin. expect from the rare gryffindor, your line produces slytherins only. are you really ravenclaw enough to claim that you are one?

that stung. amaris bit her lip hard enough to cause blood. are you saying i am not worthy of that house? am i not intelligent enough? is elspeth just better than me at everything? what the sorting hat said- amaris was going to prove she was ravenclaw enough to be one! i am a ravenclaw, she thought, but did not convey the message, which made her wonder whether the hat could hear it or not.

the hat paused, as if reconsidering it's options. elspeth knight. yes, she was a fine girl. you have her fight, but you are unlike her.

amaris sat there, unmoving, as if taped to the chair. she had elspeth's fight. amaris had elspeth's fight in her! she had been praised many times, but this was, by far, the best of them. her enthusiasm drained out of her, however, when the sorting hat continued. she was unlike elspeth. amaris was unlike elspeth! that had a hidden meaning though -- she would never be as good as elspeth. amaris did not respond, just continued to bite on her lip. now, she was certain that she was drawing blood. she tasted it in her mouth, metallic and certainly not enjoyable.

you do not just have her fight, the hat continued to talk, but amaris was tuning out. you have fight. you are brave, and confident, and you can value others above yourself. there are so much more opportunities for you, opportunities you deserve! amaris could tell the sorting hat was excited, and now was the time for her to pipe and respond, but she did not give the hat that pleasure.

'i know, like father, like daughter, you would be your best in, gryffindor!' the gryffindor table erupted in cheers and applause, as the hat said this aloud, happy for the hat's decision after such a long consideration.

amaris stood up and walked to join them. she did not feel like applauding, or cheering, or feeling happy.

with love

Sorting Ceremony Sept 2022
Apinya entered the Great Hall with the other new first years, trying to shrink into her robes with embarrassment as she saw all the people watching her. As she walked up to the main table, she saw the Sorting Hat sitting on its stool, battered and dusty. She suffered through its song, before the waiting began.

Name after name was called, until... "Milner, Apinya." Shaking with fear and excitement, she went to take her place on the stool.

"Ah, a confusing one. I have sorted many like you before." The Sorting Hat said by way of greeting. Apinya looked puzzled, "What do you mean?" She thought back, "I know exactly which house I want. Ravenclaw."
The Hat seemed to chuckle, "No my dear. You know which house everyone expects you to want. But think. If you could only save one thing in the world, what or who would it be?"
As if on instinct, her fingers brushed the note from her friends hidden in her pocket. Of course, she would save her friends. Those she loved. Who wouldn't?
"There you are, you see?" The Hat seemed triumphant, "And now you see why you belong in... Hufflepuff!"

As she slipped the Hat off and went to go and sit down at Hufflepuff's table, two thoughts were running through her mind.
1. I'm finally becoming my own witch. I'm carving my own path, and noone can stop me.
2. My mother is going to kill me.
