Hexwizard Task 1: Hogwarts v Koldovstoretz

Howard mostly ignored the two opponents that were closing in around him. A mistake perhaps, but he only had eyes for Rodion. With a call he would command his deadly Queen to strike again and Pericles did not hesitate. The dark arcane blast would find its mark, yet it would not fell the Koldovstoretz King. Team Hogwarts was close, but there was still more battle to go. With a deep breath, Howard surveyed the board one more time before making his next call.

His breath grew stiff, he was loosing steam... hardly aware as to what was going on. It was ridiculous, even from Maksim's point of view, that he was still in this game. These Brits must be worst than he thought. Here he was on a clearly loosing team, and yet they couldn't even finish the job. He looked up to see a spell hurtling his way, but missing. He smirked... This was becoming rather amusing, how awful do you have to be, to have victory in your grasp, yet still not be winning. The boy let out a hardy chuckle, he was going to be the bane of their existence.

Another round and Bloom was told to do nothing but to stand there. Was she not good enough to get a blast in? Granted, she had been missing or backfiring the past many rounds that they've had. Bloom hoped that this round in, she would be able to give it all she got. Bloom felt like she could do it the next round. She waited for whatever command was given by Howard, wondering what she would be doing next to help her team succeed. Which, they were very much doing.

Alan would inded manage to miss Maksim, who was his intended target but perhaps he did not have to worry about victory at this point anymore, because it seemed that they were way ahead of the other school. What with them being outnumbered not only in standing people but also experience. But he wouldn't allow him to be sure so early of victory and therefore allow himself to get clumsy and instead tried to remain focused and wait for Howard to instruct their strategy.

Serena Jodha Towers poised ready with her book. In these moments, she was not just a Hufflepuff through and through. She was not just the secret part-goblin living in fear. She was not just the broom racer or flier who could catch a golden snitch. Hell, she was not even just the shield wielded in front of Hogwarts, protecting them from the oncoming danger. No. At this moment, she was much more than all of that. Serena was truly a paragon of health. Her healer internship was paying off quickly as she flipped open the book, a look of determination in her eyes. It did not matter who it was, nor how she felt about them - she had spent the entire game thus far doing everything she could to keep her allies up and alive. It was not as 'glorious' as those fighting or going down for the cause. But she was not here for the glory. She was here for something more. Something that not many would understand but the most important people did.

With zero hesitation, she exhaled deeply as she performed yet another heal on the team - this time casting the benediction on Opeila again. This was not over, not yet. If only they could end this without any more people getting hurt. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Neither school were about to give up after all. It would not be over until one of the champions fell. And Howard would not fall if Serena could do anything about it.

Finally - finally - someone managed to land a hit on Rodion. It had really taken them long enough, considering that half of Koldovstoretz's team had been down for several rounds now, and the kid was a not particularly impressive third year. Really, she was still waiting for him to bring out his knitting needles.

"Go Peri!" Dee cheered, bouncing a little on her feet. She'd have clapped if the sceptre in her hand hadn't made that a little awkward, so she settled for knocking its end into the ground with a resonating sound. "Let's wrap this up, yeah?"

Each side tried to outmaneuver the other in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse. Mistakes were costly and a single misstep could mean the difference between victory and defeat. One wrong move and he was done. It was like the end of a movie he had seen before, not that he knew what a movie was because of his blood status. If only he could turn the table, would he win by now?

All this grim fog and dark bolts were getting to Pericles' head. He felt outrageously confident, even though his hit didn't take the king down altogether, who rapidly retreated. His determination grew as Dee cheered him on, rallying them. Peri managed a quick grin for her as he agreed: "Let's." The budding warlock raised his scepter in one hand, gathered the side of his skirt with the other, and braced to rejoin the fray.

And for another round Opeila stood still as the game moved on around her, with nothing to distract her from the blood that kept trickling down under her suit of armor. She was sure it would have ruined her clothes by the time the game was over.
